Drug Free Week - Costumes Edition

Wanna see our creative Halloween costumes that are so our of our comfort zone?!

Our goal was to think outside of the box and dress up as something that neither one of us ever were or ever want to be.

And I think we achieved that goal of going outside the box.

One of the days during Drug Free week, we had CAMO day. Let me just tell you something... I may live in South Mississippi where camo is 100% acceptable and almost frowned upon if you aren't wearing it at least during hunting season, but I had NEVER worn camo before. I'll have to say that those overalls are the most comfortable thing I have ever worn. They are neck and neck with pjs I must add...

Then we had team jersey day!

I was rooting for my Auburn Tigers while Crystal was rooting for the Saints.

We had so much fun this week, but dressing up everyday causes a stressful week, and I'm am so thankful it's over!

Drug Free Door Decorating

Several weeks back, we had Drug Free week. Every year we do are required to decorate our classroom door, and this year was no exception. Since our Drug Free week started on the Monday of Halloween, I decided to extend our door decoration to include fall. So I went the fall route and did one of my new favorite creatures the OWL...

I never could find an owl pattern that I was completely 100% in love with, so I came up with my own. I am in love with his 3-D eyes that pop out. The kids really loved making him, and they had even more fun playing with the owl when I took him down.

The only other supplies you will need are:

brown paper bag
white construction paper for belly
wiggly eyes
black circles for center of eyes

The only thing the kids really need help with is bending the beak so that it is 3-D. Goodness, I'm all about this 3-D stuff.

Thanksgiving Writings

Writing is something that I always encourage in my classroom. When I give a writing assignment to my 2nd graders, I like to provide them with words to use within the writing. Giving them a word bank to me keeps down on the never failing question of "How do you spell this word or that word?" With me responding, "Spell it the best way you know how." or "Sound it out."

Go Fish

with Homophones...

I'm always looking for interesting ways to teach and master different skills in my classroom. After I had introduced homophones, we played 'Homophones Go Fish' which yours truly created. It is 14 pages with over 120+ homophone cards that only need to be printed, laminated and cut apart. Easy game to reinforce a skill that otherwise would need pencil and paper.
