Schools are implementing health and safety measures to keep students, staff and communities safe. At the same time, teachers are moving ahead to provide high-quality education for every student in Ontario building on high standards of practice and the expertise they bring.

Ontario is currently experiencing a shortage of certified teachers, which has been magnified by smaller class sizes during the pandemic to improve physical distancing and reduce the risks of spreading the COVID-19 virus.

In short, you are needed. Your significant and specialized knowledge and skills are needed.

Our records indicate that you are either suspended for non-payment of fees or retired.

We highly encourage you to pursue these new employment opportunities within your local school board or private school. You also may want to consult with your pension provider.

The Ontario College of Teachers welcomes internationally educated teachers.

To teach in a publicly funded school in Ontario, you must register with the Ontario College of Teachers, which issues your initial licence to teach when you meet the registration requirements. All teachers working in a publicly funded school in Ontario must be certified by the College.

The Ontario College of Teachers provides an assessment free of charge which takes approximately 30 minutes and is available in English and French. Certified teachers pay an annual membership fee to maintain their membership and certification.

To be certified, teachers must:

have completed a minimum 3 year degree from an acceptable institution
have successfully completed a 4 semester teacher education program
pay for certification, membership and registration fees.

An undergraduate degree is recommended.
Some teaching experience also recommended.

Program Description

The objective of our teacher training program is to provide trainees with the skills and knowledge to become successful as an ESL/EFL teacher. Program Overview

Theory and Methodology: You will learn the principles of effective teaching, develop pedagogic and practical teaching skills as well as gain reflective and hands-on teaching experience.

2 Volunteers Needed to Teach First Nations Communities in the North of Canada

Frontiers Foundation is a federally chartered non-profit charity that recruits volunteers from across Canada, and from many different countries throughout the world to come to Canada and volunteer in schools in small, isolated, First Nations, communities in the north of Canada.

We currently have two positions available on our projects, one in the community of Fort Providence and one in the community of Wrigley. Both of these projects would involve our volunteers working in the school as tutors and teaching assistants and helping out in many different capacities.

These positions are available immediately and unfortunately will only be available to Canadian applicants as our overseas volunteers are required to obtain a work visa which generally takes from two to four months.

Frontiers Foundation covers all of the volunteer's travel within Canada and all of the food and living expenses are covered. The volunteer is also provided with winter clothing suitable for the north and a small living allowance of fifty dollars a week for pocket money.

This is a truly unique opportunity to learn about another culture and way of life while living and working in a First Nations community. The communities in which we work suffer from severe social problems and this is a very challenging position. We are looking for volunteers who are willing and able to meet these challenges and deal with these adversities.

By air
All flights from Europe and beyond land at Stuttgart International Airport
The international airport code is STR (useful if you’re checking for flights online).
Carriers from the UK include: Lufthansa, British Airways, German Wings, and Flybe.

From the airport to Stuttgart main station, Bad Cannstatt, SpOrt, or Esslingen,Take the S-Bahn (this is a municipal railway something like a cross between an underground train and an over ground train) which is accessible from terminal 1.

The S2 and S3 lines both go directly from the airport to Stuttgart’s main railway station (Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof). The trains run every 10 – 15 minutes. The journey to Stuttgart main station takes about 25 minutes.

You cannot buy tickets on the trains; you have to buy them from the orange VVS machines. A single ticket costs (Feb 2012) Euro 3.50.

To continue on to Bad Cannstatt, Neckarpark Mercedes Benz (for the venue), or Esslingen, change trains at the main station. Get off the S2 or S3, remain on the same platform and wait for the next S1 towards Plochingen to take you directly to your preferred destination.

A ticket from Stuttgart main station (Hauptbahnhof) to Neckarpark on the S1 costs Euros 2.60, the journey takes 7 minutes. A ticket from Esslingen main station to Neckarpark, on the S1, also costs Euros 2.60. The journey takes 9 minutes.

You can also reach the venue by taking the U-Bahn, the U11 to Neckarpark (Stadiom), or bus number 56 to Fritz-Walter-Weg.

By train
Take the train to Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof (main station) and take the S1 onwards to your destination, following the directions above.

By car
SpOrt is easily accessible from both the B10 and B14 (which look and feel like motorways, but officially are called ‘fast roads’).
There are 200 free parking spaces available for BESIG delegates, speakers and exhibitors in the multistory car park P7 right next door to the venue (use the entrance in Martin-Schrenk-Weg).

Frontiers Foundation is a federally chartered non-profit charitable organization that has been working on community development projects in First Nations communities in the far north of Canada since 1968.

Our programme brings international groups of volunteers to small, usually isolated, First Nations communities to assist on a variety of community development projects with most of the volunteers working in community schools as tutors and teaching assistants. Our volunteers help to bring badly needed skills to the schools and often work with special needs children and children with FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome)

The volunteers are required to volunteer for the full school year, from late August and early September through to the end of June. All of the volunteer costs within Canada including travel to and from the project, food and living expenses, and medical insurance are covered. Volunteers from outside of Canada are required to cover their travel to and from Canada.

This is a truly unique opportunity to live in another culture and learn about life in the far north of Canada while also gaining practical experience working in a school. We are looking for motivated people with a strong and genuine desire to get involved in the community and in the culture.
