This year’s conference marks the 40th anniversary of the founding od CESI and Adrienne explains how the annual conference is returning to Galway, where it all began in 1973. Adriienne also shares details of a jammed packed programme including keynotes by Dan Meyer and John Naughton, and plenty of opportunities to get hand on with all sorts of technologies at this year’s event.</p>
<p>The year’s conference begins with a CESImeet on the evening of Friday February 22nd  in the Clayton Hotel with the main Conference taking place in  Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) all day Saturday February 23rd. <p>Founded in 1973, the Computer Education Society of Ireland supports the  development of methodologies that help to marry new technologies with a sound  pedagogy. Organised and driven by practitioners for practitioners, at all three  levels of the educational system, CESI promotes the practical implementation of  ICTs at school and classroom level.CESI represents the views of a range of  professionals involved in mainstream education in Ireland.</p>

Adrienne  talks about this year’s keynote by Professor Steve Wheeler, details some of the  highlights on the packed agenda for this year’s conference and explains why its  an event no teacher interested in technology should miss
Founded in 1973, the Computer Education Society of Ireland supports the  development of methodologies that help to marry new technologies with a sound  pedagogy. Organised and driven by practitioners for practitioners, at all three  levels of the educational system, CESI promotes the practical implementation of  ICTs at school and classroom level.CESI represents the views of a range of  professionals involved in mainstream education in Ireland.

<p>The ‘Nano in My Life’ package, for the first time, will bring nanoscience (the study of materials at very tiny dimensions, which is set to become part of the proposed new Leaving Certificate syllabi) to the Irish classroom. It will encourage students to relate science subjects to innovative careers, with exciting and challenging applications. There are seven modules, each using a range of teaching and learning approaches, including video captured at CRANN, designed to engage students and encourage active learning.</p>
<p>In addition to the ‘Nano in My Life’ package, Mary also details CRANN’s poster competition, currently open to senior cycle students in association with the <a href="http://www.ista.ie/">Irish Science Teachers’ Association</a> (ISTA).</p>

<p>School podcast is a new safe web facility which allows children to plan, research and create podcasts on any aspect of the curriculum, edit, and upload these podcasts to their dedicated school page on <a href="http://www.schoolpodcast.org/" target="_blank">www.schoolpodcast.org</a>. Currently the School Podcast service is available for £300 per school, (depending on the size of the school), and this yearly fee includes set up, licence, one full days training on photostory and audacity as well as training on uploading podcasts to the site and back up support. An Irish language version of School podcast is also available at <a href="http://www.tonnta.org/" target="_blank">www.tonnta.org</a></p>

All courses utilise the latest e-learning technology including video tutorials and podcasts, to enhance interaction and make the courses more appealing and meaningful for participants.</p>
