However, their personality belies their small size. Despite their reduced size, they are reasonably healthy, depending on the quality of the breeder you purchase from. Teacup Chihuahuas have a personality that can only be described as lovely and charming. They are excellent watchdogs, despite their small size, as they are initially very wary of strangers.

As I am sure you are aware, these is some discussion around the name tea cup chihuahua. The American Kennel Club (AKC) does not recognize a breed called the teacup chihuahua. The only recognized dog is the "standard" chihuahua.

There are long haired teacup chihuahuas and the short haired tea cup chihuahuas. There is a significant difference in the look and feel of the fur of these two types.

Whether you prefer long haired teacup chihuahuas or not is really a matter of choice. The long haired teacup chihuahua, to me, seems far more regal. Despite what you would expect, long haired teacup chihuahuas do not need a huge amount of time to be groomed.. A quick daily brushing with a good bristle comb will stop your pups hair from becoming too matted.

Short haired teacup chihuahuas are even easier to groom!. You need only brush your pups's hair several times a week to keep it in excellent condition. Time spent grooming your pup will bring you closer together.

Teacup chihuahuas tend to be on the small size, and so have small stomachs. This means that they can be prone to low blood sugars. You can avoid a lot of the problems of low blood sugars by ensuring that you feed your pup a small amount of food quite often.

Despite the health issues I have mentioned above, owning a teacup chihuahua (or several teacup chihuahuas!) can be a wonderful experience!

What if this little breed has traits you don't care for and you find out after making your choice? It is better to research and know the characteristics and temperament of the pet before making the decision.

Is this toy breed suited to children or other pets? Is it more independent and aloof or very affectionate. Is it a more playful type or sedate. Is it quiet or a barker? These and other questions that apply to your situation, likes, and dislikes should be explored.

Small Dog Size
Usually a small dog is under 16-inches tall or weighs under 22 pounds. This is a general rule, so some small dogs are a bit larger or taller, but aren't considered medium size dogs. Examples of tiny dogs are the teacups like the Teacup Poodle and the Teacup Fox Terrier. The Chihuahua weighs 6 to 8 pounds and is 6 to 10-inches tall. The Glen of Imaal Terrier is a small dog weighing 25 to 35 pounds pushing the small dog envelope in weight, but is 12 to14-inches in height.

Training
Many small dogs are quite trainable, though some are quicker to learn than others. An example of a small dog that is very easy to train is the Lancashire Heeler. He is a fast learner, but he is sometimes stubborn and has a mischievous streak. To train him be consistent, gentle, yet in control.

That Shedding Problem
Some small dogs shed very little. Some of the one that shed sparingly are the Yorkshire Terrier, Miniature Schnauzer, Brussels Griffon, and the Wire Fox Terrier. I f you prefer no shedding try a hairless dog like the American Hairless Terrier. Low shedding can be a priority, if you are allergic to dog dander.

Dog Maintenance
Maintenance goes back to shedding. A low shedding dog won't bring on the need for extra vacuuming and won't need much brushing , if it is short haired. This problem can be solved with a long haired dog by resorting to clipping.

Children and the Small Dog
The majority of small dogs are fine with children, when they are raised from a puppy around kids. Any dog will eventually defend himself, if he is mistreated by poking his eye, tugging his ear or otherwise being ill treated. Some small breeds are particularly good with children like the Toy American Eskimo, American Cocker Spaniel, and the West Highland White Terrier.

Small Dog Watchdogs
Most small dogs are pretty good watchdogs, one of the best at this is the Wire Fox Terrier. The Dachshund is another excellent small watchdog.

The best avenue for picking the right small dog for you is to research breeds, muse about the things you want in a small dog, decide the priorities, and find one that fits your most important criteria. If you are a dog person, you'll find one you want and even be willing to fore-go some top traits to get others in your pet.
Being playful, friendly and most of all, loyal, dogs have made a special place of their own in the life of many families. Since children are seen to leave and be independent at an early age today along with families having distances, dogs have largely gained importance due to their lovingness.

Now because of so many different lifestyles into practice today, not all dogs can fit one's companionship and even the dog's own requirements. Now lets say if you are living in an apartment, you cannot keep a Saint Bernard since they are simply too huge. A few dogs need exercises to maintain their health like regular running and playing such as German Sheppard or Doberman so you need a good big place for that.

Now keeping all these and other resembling factors in mind, this is why teacup dogs are gaining fame all over the globe, especially around Europe. Just incase if you are still un-familiar with the breed called teacup dogs then let me tell you that in this breed, dogs that are very little compared to other common breeds are categorized. They are too small and very easy to take care and can be kept in small spaces as well. You can easily carry or take your teacup dog along with you anywhere you want. Fit them in your purse or just carry them on your arm, they are too little and too light that you would not even feel them.

If you are a dog lover and love to travel as well then choosing a teacup dog would be best. You might have seen a lot of celebrities especially the female ones having teacup dogs, only because they are too cute and too easy to carry along. For instance Paris Hilton and her teacup dog can be taken as a good example.

Lastly teacup dogs remain looking like a puppy for the rest of their lives maintaining the charm and cuteness or their faces and body giving you the best company ever. Considering all the features which I discussed about tea cup dogs in this piece of writing, I am sure that by now you must have realized that why teacup dogs must be your priority when it comes to the selection of the pet dogs.

Even though you may love your teacup dog to an extraordinary degree, you may not want him to have free reign of the house, particularly when you are not home to supervise him. If used properly, a crate can restrict your teacup dog when it is not convenient to have him underfoot, i.e., when guests are visiting or during your mealtimes.

A surprising number of dog owners, who originally had negative feelings about crating their teacup yorkies, have had great success using crates.

The crate itself serves as a bed, provided it is furnished with bedding material, or it can be used as an indoor dog house.

Not all teacup canines readily accept crates or being confined in them for short intervals, so for these dogs, another means of restriction must be found. But for those dogs that do not adjust to spending time in these structures, the crate can be quite useful in many ways.

Your teacup dog can be confined for a few hours while you are away from home or at work, or you can bring your crated dog along with you in the car when you travel or go on vacation.

Crates also prove handy as carriers whenever you have to transport a sick teacup yorkie to the veterinarian, too.

Most crates are made of sturdy wire or plastic, and some of the collapsible models can be conveniently stored or folded so that they can be moved easily from room to room, or from inside the house to the yard on a warm, sunny day.

If you allow your teacup puppy or grown teacup dog to become acquainted with its crate by cleverly propping the door open and leaving some of his favorite toys inside, in no time he will come to regard the crate as his own doggie haven.

As with a dog bed, place the crate away from drafts in a dry, warm spot; refrain from placing food and water dishes in it, as these only take up much space and offer opportunity for spillage.
Smaller dogs have long been admired and longed for. Because of their popularity, such pets are of the most considered. Such a decision can be daunting because of the many factors involved in choosing a dog of such a size. But for many, the most important questions to ask are unknown.

The official equivalent term to "teacup" is "toy." No breeds exist that literally have a "teacup" class or category. The term usually is used to refer to dogs that are smaller than average. Teacup yorkies can bring unwanted health problems and high vet bills. However, as a potential teacup pet owner you must ask yourself: Is a smaller size worth the risk and the cost?

Teacup dogs are so popular already, and breeders often charge more for smaller than average sized dogs. Therefore, even prior to bringing your dog to the vet you may pay a handsome fee for adoption. After bringing a teacup yorkie home health risks may arise such as hypoglycemia, fragile and easily broken bones; and birth defects such as tracheal collapse. In addition to the potential high vet bills and fees, are you also prepared to suffer the premature loss of a teacup pet?

If a small dog is injured (accident risk increase greatly because of their small size) the risk for fatality is exponentially higher. Of course, a teacup yorkie with a broken leg is a much more sore sight than a Labrador with a broken leg. The Labrador will most likely nurse himself back to health, possibly after a quick checkup to the vet. A harmed Yorkshire terrier on the other hand will take longer to heal with such small bones, and may never recover, even after many trips to the vet.
You have always thought they were adorable and maybe someday you would like to obtain a teacup puppy. Before you consider purchasing any teacup dog breed, you have to realize that it takes a lot of hard work, time, dedication and patients to train your puppy.

You have to be ready to raise a baby into a well behaved and loving adult dog. For instance, teacup dog breeds are more susceptible to being a “frady cat”. I am here to give you advice per say my own experience on raising animals. I have had cats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets, small rodents, fish and even ventured into fostering wildlife with great success.

The key to successfully raising a teacup puppy is to learn how to read your puppy. You can also do a search on teacup dog breeds to see if there are any special habits or health problems they may have. You have to pay strict attention to your puppies actions. What is he or she trying to tell you? Does you puppy need to go outside to use the bathroom, or is your puppy hungry or thirsty? Is your puppy feeling lonely or afraid. Remember and understand, your teacup puppy has just been taken from it’s mother and siblings and is in a strange place with strange smells and people and feels very scared and alone. I always tried to put myself in their situation and think how I would feel. I would want to feel secure and safe in my new home and most of all loved.

Before you bring your teacup puppy home you will have to purchase supplies for you puppy.
Things you will need:

A crate:
This is a very important training tool. You Teacup Puppy will have accidents and chew things up. You will need the proper size crate. A rule of thumb is your Teacup Puppy should be able to stand, lay down and have some room to move around comfortably. If your crate is too big your puppy will have accidents in it. When the crate is the appropriate size your Teacup Puppy should not use it for a bathroom. It is a known fact that in a small enough area, they will not relieve themselves as they do not want to be around their excrement. Note: Please read article on potty training tips.

Chews:
Teacup Puppies love to chew, and guaranteed they will. It is up to you to supply proper chewing supplies for your puppy as not to ruin your shoes, clothes and what ever else they can get a hold of. One important tip is: Do Not leaving anything laying around your house. Keep everything picked up and put away. Note: Please read article on chewing habits.

Food:
Always purchase good quality “Puppy Food”. Puppy food will provide the proper nutrition for your growing Teacup Puppies needs. Your Teacup Puppy will need puppy food for one full year. The reason I recommend a higher quality food is that with the proper nutrition and care, your puppy will be healthier and happier. Also, when using a better quality food your puppy will not shed as much. Obsessive shedding can be one contributor to poor nutrition. Make sure you purchase two dishes, one for food and one for water.

Toys:
Supply your puppy with plenty of things to play with. Your Teacup Puppy will love to play. I have found many dogs that just love the stuffed animals with a squeaky in it. They love to carry it around the house in their mouths and make it squeak. It is quite amusing. If you purchase a ball or two for your puppy, make sure it is big enough to not cause a chocking hazard. Puppies and dogs have been known to get the balls caught in their throat because they were just the right size to obstruct the airway, and the results were not good. Also be careful of toys that your puppy could chew up very easily. If you are in doubt about certain toys either do not purchase them or keep a watchful eye while your puppy plays with it.

The Fun Stuff:
There are so many things you can buy for your Teacup Puppy that it makes your head spin. There are costumes, clothes, sweaters, boots, fancy collars and leashes and hats. The list just goes on and on. You can have a wonderful time just surfing the web to see what is all out there.

This should give you some idea of what you need to purchase before you bring your Teacup Puppy home. The most important items listed are a crate, dishes and food, things to chew on and toys. Having these items available when your Teacup Puppy comes home will help in the transition period of the both of you getting to know each other while building a long time trusting and loving relationship.
This designation is not recognized or endorsed by the major canine associations. Owners of Toy dogs believe that Teacup dogs should be referred to by their correct Group name, Toy.

Dog owners and breeders describe a Teacup as being a dog smaller than the Toy group. To describe small dogs that belong to the Toy breed is redundant. It suggests that the breed comes in different sizes. There is no such thing, for example, as a "Toy Chihuahua" since all Chihuahuas are Toy dogs. A Teacup is a descriptive term for a Toy dog which might be smaller than the official size standard. There is no firm agreement on what height or weight makes a dog a Toy. The upper height limit of some Toy breeds is over 12 inches at the withers, which places these dogs within the height range of some other Groups as well.

Teacup dogs were considered status symbols.
Toy dogs are also referred to as Pocket Size, Tiny Toy, and Miniature. Oriental royalty carried them around in their large sleeves for warmth. This dog Group had limited duties but performed tasks specifically utilized by Oriental and European courts of nobility: A Teacup dog's temperature is between 100.2-102.8 degrees Fahrenheit so they warmed beds in cold castles and palaces. Dogs sat on laps (hence the term "lapdogs") until the advent of central heating diminished the need for the warming duties of these pets. Selective breeding developed a small dog to aid the lifestyle of and provide pleasure to the wealthy.

A "Teacup" dog is just a marketing term.
Some people consider Teacup dog a derogatory term for Toy dog. But, others obviously like using the term so it's here to stay!

Teacup dogs are bred specifically to appeal to people as companions.
The price of a Teacup dog should not reflect a rare or special dog and it may come with some health problems. Because of its small size, it may require extra care for its health and general well-being. These canines generally need lots of attention, and cannot be left alone for long periods of time.
People who live alone usually want to have pets because they usually want to go out on walks and everything but pets make an excellent family member in a heap of members as well. They are equally loved and supported by the people. Teacup puppies are one of such pets that you can have at your home; these would be loved and taken care of like any other beings that you have wanted to have within your household.

Because of their small size and considerable low volume, teacup puppies make the best pets ever because of the smaller size and better longevity they have. You don't have to worry about taking extra care of them either because they are like the most ordinary dogs. However, there are certain things you need to consider before you buy teacup puppies for sales or on cheap process than the usual ones.

Teacup puppies that are available for sales or bought from sales are equally exhibited and used to of getting harmed and injured; they have routine tasks and activities but due to their small sizes, they have a chance of neglected upon and being stepped at numerous times, so care and nourishment should be the utmost priority you would provide your teacup puppies with. In order to keep their vital organs and bones healthy, you should be able to feed them in the proper nutrition and place them at the safest spot possible.

Before buying, you should properly check their weight and considerable amount of strength they have because they are not more than seven pound in weight and they can't withstand severe trauma or any other injuries unlike most of the other dogs. If you are buying one, you should be responsible to take into account any possible measures regarding the safety and the healthy lifestyle of your teacup puppy.

Last but not the least, keep in mind that whenever you are looking for teacup puppies for sale, try to find reliable and authentic resources. I am saying this because you might be aware of the term "Scam". If you are considering the online options then you must make sure that the particular website which you are considering is not a scam and also take a look at their feedback and testimonials left by their previous clients.
But let me tell you that there actually is no such breed of dogs called 'teacup'. People often think that there is some specific diversity among Maltese or a teacup Yorkshire terrier and a Maltese or a regular toy Yorkshire terrier. All the Maltese and Yorkie come under toy breeds. Teacup can be said as a made up term that is being now used to portray puppies or dogs that count under a certain weight that is normal for a certain breed's standard.

Taking an example would be a Maltese or a Yorkie puppy that is described as a teacup if it weighs less than 4 pounds after fully grown up. Now the AKC standards describe the breed standard of these two dogs as not to exceed more then seven pounds after fully grown up. Teacup puppies that are fully-grown and stay under 4 pounds are said to be vulnerable towards many health problems compared to the ones that cross 4 pounds and reach up to 7 pounds, says most of the breeders. 'Runts of the litter' is a line used for these Yorkshire and Maltese teacup puppies; they might experience organ failures or other birth defects that is a normal thing among them.

Another surprising thing is that intentional breeding can be done in order to raise up teacup puppies but it would only happen if two runts mate that would promote the bad genes even more so breeders oppose this idea. Remember that a good and reputable breeder would not ever encourage bad breeding in order to produce teacup puppies on purpose, he would always keep up good quality and promote good genes to get the teacup puppies that carry good temperament and meet the breeding standards nicely.

By all this I do not mean that all the teacup puppies weighing less than four pounds when grown fully are unhealthy; some of them are. Every once in a while a pair would produce teacup puppies; we can say that it is similar to pre-mature births in humans; not necessarily unhealthy. When picking up a teacup puppy like a Yorkie or a Maltese just consider the temperament factor before looking at the size. Size can be taken care of and the problems can be solved but if a teacup puppy has temperament issues, then it might be a big headache to deal for you.
Teacup poodles mostly weigh around three to five pounds compared to a toy poodle that goes up to ten pounds at some point. People having teacup poodles love to make them wear different cute looking outfits along with getting them expensive groom treatments at various salons. Teacup poodles are very pleasant since they do not shed while being around you; in short, what a lovely companionship it is.

These dogs are highly elegant, perceptive along with being intelligent. Being too obedient these dogs have a good level of temper showing loads of patience if they go in the hands of some weird or cruel owner. Teacup poodles have gained quite a bit of popularity around Hollywood and are able to quickly gain attention wherever they go. They can be seen carried along by many female celebrities since they are small, cute and easy to handle and take care of. To avoid messiness and matting, a teacup poodle needs a regular fur grooming.

These poodles are not cheap at all. They are also labeled as designer dogs because of their high price tags. They can be found in various different colors costing at up to around a thousand dollars easily. Once you own a teacup poodle, maintaining it is not too expensive, mainly because of its size. Poodles are coming since centuries back when circuses in Europe made use of them while traveling for entertainment to the audience. They were always and up till now handled with care and given a lot of royalty type treatment. Because of poodle's so many characteristics and looks, people started keeping it as a pet and a 24/7 partner. Thinking about getting a teacup poodle, as a family pet might be confusing since it is very small and sensitive and you would not want little kids running and playing around with it all the time
Some food for thought, the sign to look for when your Teacup Puggle has to go is, it will start sniffing around the floor if it has to urinate to go and will start sniffing and usually start walking around in circles if it has to have a bowel movement. The more you pay attention to this behavior the shorter the training process will be. Take your teacup puggle outside immediately or to the newspaper if you are indoor training your puppy.

Also if your teacup puggle will be utilizing the outside, it is a good idea to say the word "Outside" and get them excited about it. Say it in an excited tone like that is the greatest thing in the world. Another tip is to take the puppy to the place you want them to do their business. Within a short time your puggle Puppy will use this area on a consistent basis thus keeping the clean up area to a minimum. From personal experience, I have moved a couple of times and I did this each time with my dog. He always used the area that I wanted him to use. So this does work with older dogs also. You just have to let them know what you want.

Just a little bit of humor. When I potty trained my last puppy I used treats to reward him after he did his job. Well he got wise to the treat part at just eight weeks old and he tried to trick me. He would go to the door to go outside and I would let him out. He would then sit on the porch for a few seconds and then want to come back in and he was waiting for his treat. At that time he had made the connection that going outside would win him his reward. To get him to understand what I wanted, he did not receive a treat if he did not do his business. This only took a few days, before he realized what he needed to do. So another good rule of thumb is Do Not underestimate your Teacup Puggles intelligence. And remember that you are their teacher.

It is also a good idea to decide how and which method you want to use for potty training your Teacup Puggle before you start. The worst mistake you can make is changing methods. You must be very consistent in your methods. A Teacup Puppy only knows what you teach it and if you teach your Teacup Puppy inconsistency, you are guaranteed problems. So pick a method and stick with it.
Some of the different methods are:

The Paper Method

First you need to pick a spot in your house that you want your teacup puggle to use to do his business. The kitchen or bathroom works the best because of the linoleum flooring. I would suggest you not use a carpeted area if at all possible.

Now that you have your area, you need to cover the whole area with newspaper. Since your teacup puggle is a baby, it will need to eliminate more often than an adult dog so you have to be vigilant. It is also very important to clean up immediately and replace with fresh paper for any teacup puggle breed.

You need to watch for the following signs that your teacup puggle puppy needs to do his business. Your teacup puggle puppy will start really sniffing the floor, concentrating on it. In a short time you should be able to tell the difference if you "Teacup Puggle" is just sniffing around or really sniffing around. Your teacup puggle will also start to walk in circles looking for just the right spot. This is your cue that your teacup puggle needs to be placed in the designated area to make sure he does his business on the paper.

As your Teacup Puggle Puppy gets used of the idea of using the paper, start taking away one sheet at a time until you have a very specific area. If your peacup puggle misses the paper you might have taken away too much paper and got confused. That is why I suggest one piece at a time. Slowly lessen the papered area to a corner to make a more confined area.

If you decide that you eventually want your puggle puppy to do his business outside, slowly move the paper to the door. This might even have to be done inch by inch. Patients, is the key here. Remember, you are working with a baby. If you watch animal documentaries you will have noticed that the mother always teaches the baby how to hunt and survive. You have to look at yourself as the surrogate mother. You need to teach your new baby.

Once you're teacup puggle starts going outside you will be able to eventually remove the paper all together.

You must also remember to praise your puggle puppy each and every time they do as you want. This is a general rule for all aspects of training. Your teacup puggle wants nothing more than your praise and approval. To them you are their world and will do what ever it takes to please you. If your puggle puppy makes a mistake the only thing you need to do is say a stern "No". This way they start to learn that "No" means they did something wrong. For example, with the Potty Training, if your puggle puppy misses the paper, give them a stern "No" and pick them up and place them where you want them to do their business. Also if you keep a vigilant eye and catch them in the middle of the act, you can say "No" and this will startle them enough to make them stop. Then place them in the correct area or spot and make the feel comfortable there.

If you want to spend the money you can also use the Puppy Pads that can be purchased at any variety stores or pet stores.

Crate Training

This has become the most accepted of all potty training methods today. They will come to the understanding in a very short time that this is their home or den. You Teacup Puppy will not do his job in the crate granted he is not left for extended periods of time. This also gives you better control of the potty training situation.

When you first start out, try taking your puggle puppy outside right away after removal from the crate. Also remember to take him to your spot of choice. If nothing happens in the first five minutes bring your puggle Puppy in and give him food and water. Wait about ten minutes after he has finished eating and drinking and take him back outside. As a general rule dogs have to do their business shortly after feeding and waking up.
Stay outside with him and see what happens. If nothing still has happened, watch him very closely for the signs I described above.

Also get your puggle puppy excited about going outside. In time they will learn to go to the door to let you know they need to go out. With my dog all I have to do is say the word outside and he just goes crazy and starts howling. There are times when I even have to spell the word as to not get him excited in some instances.
You can reward your puggle puppy either with praise or treats. If you are worried about weight gain or health issues, praise is just as good if not better as a reward. All they want to do is make you happy.

Another good tip is when your Teacup Puggle is out of his crate, to keep him to one room with your watchful eye. That way, if there are any accidents, or they start going, they can be caught and corrected right away. You can gradually give your "Teacup Puggle" more space when he is ready.

So you just need to remember to stick to one method, be consistent and be patient. The better you are, the faster your Teacup Puggle will be trained. Always praise your Teacup Puggle for doing a good job. In not to long a time, you will be able to enjoy your new family member with out the worries of having to clean up messes and building up a loving and confident relationship between your Teacup Puggle and you.
Teacup dogs are dogs that are small enough to fit in a teacup, giving rise to the name. They are being bred smaller and smaller, because it is believed that is what people want. Puppies whose size has been intentionally reduced to fit into a teacup are prone to all sorts of health complications. Should we continue to reduce their sizes or just enjoy the miniature sizes that are available now.

Teacup puppies for sale
Often the term "teacup dog" is used as a marketing ploy to drive up the price of a puppy, as some people find the extremely small size desirable. The term teacup dog covers many varieties of miniature or toy breeds of dog.

Chihuahuas and Maltese are examples of toy dog breeds. There is no such thing as a "toy Chihuahua", or "toy Maltese". Chihuahuas and Maltese are already toy breeds so the term Toy Maltese is a misnomer and leads the buyer to believe they are getting something even smaller. The AKC standard for a toy breed is 6 lbs and under which, at the time of writing, would cover so-called teacup breeds. To say a dog is a teacup Chihuahua possibly suggests that its growth was stunted at birth and therefore have defects that may not be obvious when purchased.

Making the most of normal small breed dogs will give you more satisfaction than a dog that is not correctly bred.

Introduction of size breeding
Some dog breeds such as the Shi Tzu (Tibetan Temple Dog, Tibetan Lion Dog) have always been small while other breeds have been reduced from their standard size to miniature and toy.

Before and during the early part of the 19th century all dogs were working dogs to a certain degree. Breeding of dogs specifically for appearance was introduced in the mid 19th Century. Take for example the classic Poodle.

Poodles were used as a water fowling dog for many years until their size was reduced to allow them to become a housedog and reduced further to become a lap dog. Many people like the smaller breeds because they have a more genteel appearance. Breeds that are naturally small are fun but also very protective despite their size.

For many small breed owners, dressing their "babies" in cute clothes has become the latest trend. There is nothing wrong with that as long as the puppy is comfortable. Wearing a coat indoors may not be necessary and may make the puppy unnecessarily hot but the use of a jacket when outside may be beneficial in keeping a chill at bay, especially when they have been short groomed.

Maltese, Pomeranians, Yorkies, Miniature Pinscher, and Papillion's are just some of the dogs that are ideal to wear clothes. There are all sorts of small dog clothing available and includes dog robes, dog raincoats, dog dresses and dog coats. There are even booties available to protect their tiny feet.

A large selection of clothes is available for smaller dogs. Not so long ago, people needed an entire room to set-up a computer. CPU's then were the size of closets. Today you might not even need a chair. And our fondness for diminutive objects has taken the dimensions of fetish. Whether it is our utter fascination with micro utilities or our engrossed stipulation for space, the smaller, the better. Even pets have to be petite. Gone are the days when mongrels, German shepherds, and bulldogs commanded market prices, status symbol and friendly doting. If at all, they make for good security measures. Teacup Chihuahuas are fast becoming the mainstays of America households. And its very name suggests that they are not bred to scare robbers away.

Lovable pets, size notwithstanding, are they different from any other dogs? Not necessarily. Teacup Chihuahuas bring with them diverse health related problems, as well. These Teacup Chihuahuas need extra care and special attention especially as teacup puppies and should always be checked out by a licensed veterinarian for thyroid and liver problems. Some problems that small dogs get relate to blood sugar levels, lack of moisture in the body and common respiratory problems.

Besides that, injury gets to teacup pets more seriously than other dogs. Imagine a teacup puppy silently sleeping on the sofa when a 200 lb woman accidentally sits on her. Though resilient, extra care is needed to keep from breaking small bones of these tiny creatures. Being small will most likely be a quality accessible to their small masters like small children who would not differentiate a teacup pet from a teacup that the child usually breaks every now and then. Since dogs often lick the ground, sometimes ingesting fertilizers, cleaning agents, and other harmful chemicals in their system. And this can be especially dangerous for teacup Chihuahuas. They also take the word "cool" to disquieting proportions. You might want to consider buying them sweaters; the weather also significantly affects Teacup Chihuahuas more than other breeds. So, if you do plan to accessorize them, think "sweater".
Generally, teacup puppies weigh 2-4 lbs and measure 8 inches or less during maturity. However, breeders usually keep teacup pups under their supervision during the first 12 weeks. This way, they will be eating sufficiently when they are transferred to their new home.

Unfortunately, changes to environment may cause a great amount of stress for teacup puppies. He may react negatively when leaving all his friends, traveling to his new home, meeting his new owners and changing routines. When he experiences stress, he will seem uninterested in playing and act extremely tired. Most of the time, the teacup will have unusually weak knees when standing and running. If you notice such symptoms, he may lose his appetite due to sugar low.

When stressed, teacup puppies become prone to having low blood sugar. If your pup doesn't eat often or enough, he may experience a sudden drop in blood levels. However, most teacups should outgrow this problem when they reach 4 to 5 months. Many breeders recommend adding a teaspoon of Karo syrup in his drinking water to prevent hypoglycemia to puppies that are not eating sufficiently.

For teacup owners who are out most of the day, Nutrical is a high-calorie nutritional supplement recommended for puppies with an increased risk of hypoglycemia. By simply giving them a doze each morning and bedtime, you can ensure that your puppy is safe from experiencing low blood sugar even if you're not at home. A suggested dose is around 1/4 to 1/3-inch of Nutrical combined with appropriate Karo syrup until your teacup puppy reaches four or five months.

A common misconception about hypoglycemia treatments for teacup puppies is that owners should ALWAYS feed their pups with sugar water, baby food and Nutrical. Unfortunately, feeding your pups without quality dog food is a very dangerous practice. According to various breeders, any teacup puppy that needs to be fed with sugar water, soft foods and nutrical is not ready to go to any buyer. Most of the time, these puppies are sickly or underage.

The bad effect of sugar, on the other hand, is it causes bacteria infection. While Karo syrup and nutrical can save your teacup puppy's life during a hypoglycemic emergency, these supplements should never be used as food staple. In fact, they should be avoided at all cost. Instead, it is best to supervise your pup's eating habits during his first few days at home and give nutrical only when he has no appetite. This condition should only last a couple of days. If not, you should immediately seek vet assistance. Remember that an untreated hypoglycemia can worsen to seizures, coma and death of a teacup puppy
