Do You Love Your Bible?

Do you love your Bible, Christian? Do you really?

I am often challenged by those who gave their lives in defense of the Word of God and forced to ask myself, “do you love the Bible THAT much?!”

You can look at William Hunter who lost his job in London for refusing an order that everyone in the City of London had to attend a Catholic mass. When caught reading the Bible for himself, he was brought up on charges for refusing to accept the catholic dogma of transubstantiation according to which the bread and wine became the physical body and blood of Jesus.

He resisted threats and bribes, including the offer to be set completely free and paid £40, choosing rather to be burnt alive for his faith and stance on God’s word.

Or take William Tyndale (we just commemorated his martyrdom on October 6) who desired to study God’s word and became fluent in French, Greek, Hebrew, German, Italian, Latin, and Spanish, in addition to English! He received his Master’s degree just so that he could BEGIN to study theology! While taking the course he was irritated that it did not include the systematic study of the Scriptures! He complained, “They have ordained that no man shall look on the Scripture, until he be noselled in heathen learning eight or nine years and armed with false principles, with which he is clean shut out of the understanding of the Scripture.”

Once he was summoned before John Bell, the Chancellor of the Diocese of Worcester, to be questioned. No charges were brought at that time and in recalling his argument with John Bell, Tyndale referred to him as a "learned but blasphemous clergyman", who allegedly asserted: "We had better be without God's laws than the Pope's.", to which Tyndale responded: "I defy the Pope, and all his laws; and if God spares my life, ere many years, I will cause the boy that driveth the plow to know more of the Scriptures than thou dost!"

In order to translate the Bible into the English he defied order of the king and the Pope. He was hunted and persecuted for years until he was finally executed for his crimes.

When finally sentenced to be executed for his “crimes against the crown,” they wanted to spare Tyndale the worst at his death. So it was arranged that he should be strangled before being burned. As this was happening, he said: “Oh Lord, open the King of England’s eyes!” But the strangler bungled the job and the first flames brought Tyndale back to consciousness. It is reported that he endured the flames in silence.

We can see with the later translation of our King James Bible that the Lord honored Tyndale’s final prayer.

And we could go on and on with examples of people who lived, died, and gave everything for the word of God.

Do you love God’s word that much Christian? Did you know that your love for the Holy Word of God will be on display for the world to see? Yes sir! So we’d better make sure that we actually love it and that we act like we love it!

Do you read it?

Job 23:10-12 - But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. 11 - My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined. 12 - Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

Is the word of God more important to you Christian than filling your belly in the morning?

Is it the first thing you crave or desire to dig into?

Someone once asked a room full of business owners, “Who here would like to spend more time reading?” All the people in the room raised their hands. “Then why don’t you?” the speaker asked, to which one guy replied, “Because books don’t ring!”

I know that’s talking about books in general, but the lesson still applies. There are so many other distractions that this world throws at us and the flesh wants nothing to do with the word, but do you love the word of God enough to faithfully dig into every day?

Do you carry it?

Matthew 5:13-16 - Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14 - Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 - Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 - Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Do you memorize it?

Psalms 119:9-16 - BETH. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. 10 - With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. 11 - Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. 12 - Blessed art thou, O LORD: teach me thy statutes. 13 - With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth. 14 - I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches. 15 - I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways. 16 - I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.

Do you meditate on it?

Hebrews 4:12 - For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Isaiah 26:3-4 - Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. 4 - Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

Psalms 1:1-3 - Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 - But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 - And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Do you share it?

Matthew 22:9 – Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.

Mark 16:15 – And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Luke 14:23 – And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

Penn Jillette, world famous magician of the duo Penn and Teller, who is a professed atheist said, “I’ve always said that I don’t respect people who don’t proselytize. I don’t respect that at all. If you believe that there’s a heaven and a hell, and people could be going to hell or not getting eternal life, and you think that it’s not really worth telling them this because it would make it socially awkward—and atheists who think people shouldn’t proselytize and who say just leave me along and keep your religion to yourself—how much do you have to hate somebody to not proselytize? How much do you have to hate somebody to believe everlasting life is possible and not tell them that?

I mean, if I believed, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that a truck was coming at you, and you didn’t believe that truck was bearing down on you, there is a certain point where I tackle you. And this is more important than that.”

And do you know when he said that? Right after a Christian handed him a gift Bible that he got from Living Waters here in Bellflower!

Do you love the word of God enough to get uncomfortable and share it, Christian?

Do you live it?

Romans 12:1-2 - I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

For GOD – Here we see the greatest Lover

1 John 3:1 - Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 2 - Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

1 John 4:8 - He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

SO LOVED – Here we see the greatest degree

Luke 23:33-34 - And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. 34 - Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

Romans 5:6-8 - For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 - For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8 - But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

THE WORLD – Here we see the greatest number

Romans 10:13 - For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Hebrews 10:10 - By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

THAT HE GAVE – Here we see the greatest act

John 10:17-18 - Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18 - st. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON – Here we see the greatest gift

John 1:14 - And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

2 Corinthians 9:15 - Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.

THAT WHOSOEVER – Here we see the greatest invitation

Acts 2:19-21 - And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: 20 - The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: 21 - And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

BELIEVETH – Here we see the greatest simplicity

Romans 10:8-13 - But what saith it? IN HIM – Here we see the greatest Person

John 8:28-29 - Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. 29 - And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

John 1:1-5 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 - The same was in the beginning with God. 3 - All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 - In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 - And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

Hebrews 1:1-6 - God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 - Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 - Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; 4 - Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. 5 - For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? SHOULD NOT PERISH – Here we see the greatest deliverance

2 Corinthians 13:3-4 - Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, which to you-ward is not weak, but is mighty in you. 4 - For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you.

BUT – Here we see the greatest difference

Matthew 19:23-26 - Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. 24 - And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 25 - When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? 26 - But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Romans 6:20-23 - For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. 21 - What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. 22 - But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23 - For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

HAVE – Here we see the greatest security

Ephesians 1:3-14 - Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 - According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 - Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 - To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7 - In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; 8 - Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; 9 - Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: 10 - That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: 11 - In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12 - That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13 - In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 - Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

EVERLASTING LIFE – Here we see the greatest possession

John 4:13-14 - Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14 - But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

John 5:24 - Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

John 6:27 - Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

John 6:47-51 - Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. 48 - I am that bread of life. 49 - Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50 - This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. 51 - I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

Back to John 3 in Christ’s discourse with Nicodemus:

John 3:9-21 - Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? 10 - Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? 11 - Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. 12 - If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? 13 - And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. 14 - And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 - That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 - For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 - He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 - And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 - For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 - But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

America needs heroes on the battlefield of everyday life ...

"The history of the world has always been the biography of her great men … There was a time in these United States when youth was inspired by (heroes) ... when a picture of Washington or Lincoln adorned every school room wall … Along with the ponderous Family Bible on the Victorian table and the hymn books on the old-fashioned square piano, there looked down from the walls the likenesses of our national heroes … Those were the days of great beliefs - belief in the authority of the Scriptures, belief that prayer was really answered, belief in marriage and the family as permanent institutions, belief in the integrity and worth of America’s great men.

These beliefs laid the groundwork for producing more great men, for many a boy figured, "If that man could do it, get an education, make his life count for something, then I can too ...

Then there dawned the day when the pictures of Washington and Lincoln did not fit in with our concept of modern décor ... The old Family Bible looked embarrassingly out of place ... So the pictures and the Bible were often relegated to the Attic of Forgotten Things.

There went with them some of the most stabilizing influences of American life.

We had become a more sophisticated people, somewhat cynical of the cherished beliefs of our ancestors, rather blasé, frankly skeptical of old-fashioned sentimentalism.

Along with our higher education came a debunking contest. This debunking became a sort of national sport ... It was smarter to revile than to revere ... more fashionable to depreciate than to appreciate.

In our classrooms at all levels of education, no longer did we laud great men - those who had struggled and achieved. Instead, we merely took their dimensions and ferreted out their faults.

We decided that it was silly to say God sent them for a special task ... They were merely ... products of their environments … The Constitution, that hitherto cherished charter of American liberties, was drawn up by men who never spoke on a telephone or flew in a plan, therefore, we should change the Constitution to suit modern ways ...

But we failed to realize that when we were denying the existence of great men, we were also denying the desirability of great men.

So now, many of our children have grown up without the guiding star ... holding in their hands only a bunch of ... question marks, with no keys with which to open the doors of knowledge and life.

The young no longer had any particular ambition to become heroes.

Their ambition now was to make as much money as possible, as quickly as possible, in whatever way was most convenient ...

Thus, our debunking is ... a sign of decaying foundations of character to the individual and in the national life … We who are Christians, believe that God gives the world a few great men to lead the rest of us closer to Him, that to depreciate or to deny their greatness is to deny one of God’s revelations of Himself to mankind.

The heroes the Christian cherishes ... were (or are) human... They have their weakness ... Their faults are well-known to their friends, better known to themselves. But the point is that with God and His guidance, they can provide the moral leadership that our nation so sorely needs.

America needs heroes on the battlefield of everyday life ... in our homes, in our schools, on college campuses, in offices and factories, who can lead us towards a return to idealism. For time is running out for us ...

The call today is for Christian heroes and heroines ... who are willing to speak a good word for Jesus Christ ... who are willing to live by the undiluted values of Christian morality in the pagan atmosphere of our society surrounded by lewdness, pornography, and profanity.

This may be a higher bravery than that of any battlefield: to face ridicule, sarcasm, sneering disdain for what one believes to be right.

To fight for goodness and right ... fighting the battle first in our own hearts and souls ... seeking God’s help to overcome our particular temptations for the sake of peace .. for the sake of America ... for our own sake ... for God’s sake."

New York Passes Bill Expanding Abortion?

There is no medical reason for an abortion at any stage. Here’s why.

When I tell people that there is no medical reason for an abortion at any stage of pregnancy, people often bring up the issue of ectopic pregnancies. Even well meaning, concerned pro-life people bring this up. They don’t know how to answer it and for this reason may say they are “pro life with exceptions”. This is the loophole pro aborts need to push abortion on demand, without restrictions, and without apology.

If we are to abolish the evil of abortion, we would do a service to ourselves (and to the babies!!) to better understand what is (and is not) an ectopic and how it relates to abortion.

Although the political pundits proclaim the economy is exploding, with stocks spiraling indefinitely upwards, and national wealth increasing beyond belief, the people at large, the untold billions laboring around the world to create a better tomorrow, are simply being left behind. Indeed, the middle-class, the class traditionally believed to be the backbone of society, is dying as the dinosaurs of history did from the lack of an ecosystem to support them.

For instance, the median yearly wage in America today is a paltry $30,533. This amounts to half of Americans making less than $2,500 per month in income. And since the latest federal poverty level statistics for a family of five is $29,420, the median family is now practically at the poverty-class, losing sight of the middle-class altogether. To add further insult to injury, a whopping 68% of Americans make less than $50,000 per year, a total which author Charles Hugh Smith estimated was less than half the amount each household needed to live a comfortable middle-class lifestyle. Inflation, to say the least, is killing the American dream.

One of my business partners just sent me a hilarious SuperBowl commercial about a not-so-funny truth. Most people fail to plan for their future (or even their present) and they end up hurting for funds later on.

While this commercial does a great job of pointing out the problem, in a humorous manner, the advertising company's only solution to the problem is for the viewer (those struggling financially) to open a trading account with their company. LIFE Members Raise Over $800,000 for Operation Underground Railroad!

On October 14th, 2017, LIFE completed its largest charitable Life on Life Initiative to date. Thousands of LIFE Members gathered in Louisville, Kentucky to participate in a push-up contest to raise money for Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.), a non-profit organization that rescues and rehabilitates children from sex trafficking.

The Life on Life project began in July of 2017, when All Grace Outreach spokesman, Chris Swanson, teamed up with O.U.R. Founder, Tim Ballard, and announced LIFE’s mission to raise $100,000 over the next 3 months. Despite being the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world, child sex trafficking has received little attention in the media and public eye. That all changed when Ballard exposed the evils of this disgusting enterprise to thousands of caring and determined LIFE Members. After the announcement, it didn’t take long for LIFE Chairman of the Board, Orrin Woodward, to personally commit to supporting this cause and propose a fundraising challenge to the entire LIFE community to (instead) raise $1,000,000 for Operation Underground Railroad!

Finding Gratitude

Gratitude is an increasingly rare commodity in today's world. It has always struck me as strange, and honestly quite sad, that within hours of a holiday that we set aside for giving thanks for the blessings in our lives, that we go into a commercial "holiday" dedicated to consumerism. A day no longer dedicated to gratefulness for what we have been blessed with but rather dedicated to the coveting of things that we have convinced ourselves that we "need."

Before the family has even had a chance to leave town, we are camping out at the store (this year I happened to catch an ad that stores would be open at 4PM, on Thanksgiving night, so no more camping necessary!-but that's another rant, for another time). Before the turkey has even had a chance to cool, we are clamoring for the latest deal on the hottest electronics. Before the pumpkin pie has even settled in our stomachs, we are in a mad dash to make sure the kids have the latest round of plastic that will surely be forgotten and discarded by next Thanksgiving.

We rush around town, we neglect time with family, we leverage our futures into the bondage of debt slavery (again, another rant for another time), and we're perfectly willing to step on our fellow man in order to save a few bucks. Simply put, we spend Thursday giving thanks and move right on into Friday, forgetting to be grateful.

Now there is nothing wrong with us having stuff, but all too often, it is the stuff that has us.

But what if we switch it up?
What if we spend our busy holiday season in service to our fellow man?
What if, instead of worrying about buying another round of plastic junk to keep the little ones happy, we instill in them a love of giving? After all, a wise man once said, "it is more blessed to give than to receive." (Acts 20:35).
What if, instead of going out for that expensive meal, we volunteer at a local rescue mission?
What if, instead of treating ourselves to that new gadget, we donate to help save children?

If we were truly thankful for the blessings that we've already received, and if we decided to be conscious of looking out for someone else's needs rather than looking out for ourselves, I truly believe we'd find that we are a lot more grateful.

Prayer for Thanksgiving

O Lord my God, my Savior, I pray for a heart overflowing with thanksgiving. Father, you are my constant reason for joy. You are faithful when I am unfaithful. You promise heaven when I am consumed by the next hour.

Protect me from my own selfish desires. I confess that I want what cannot satisfy. I confess that I complain about what is not done rather than be grateful for what I can do. I confess that I am easily disappointed by those I love, even though you continue to love and bless me. I confess I cling to bitterness more than I rush to praise. I confess that I am not satisfied that the nearness of you is my good.
