How to Create Prov File for Nokia S40 Phones Online

I created a post on how to do this some months ago but this tutorial needs updating so I'll just quickly show you how to go about it the new way.

In the earlier post the site to create the prov was myprov.co.cc but since they have now moved to xmlprov.com things are much different now. You need to register and create an account before you can generate prov files for your phone.

To get started, go to www.xmlprov.com. Register and log in to create a new prov file. The processes are quite easy.

From the available options, select Access Point Creator and you will be taken to the page where you enter the your access point details.

Enter the desired information and click on generate. You can now download as a .prov file or a zipped file

The next thing to do is to send it to your Nokia phone via bluetooth. If your PC does not have bluetooth transfer the .prov file to a phone that can accept it (without installing it) and still send it as a prov file to your Java Nokia Phone. A non-Nokia phone or Symbian Nokia phone should be able to do this.

How to Add TextArea to Hold Codes Inside Blogger posts

This is what the title of this post is talking about:

Hello friend this is a text area that can hold your tutorial codes <a href="http://techbase.info">TechBase</a>

I actually got this idea from a number of blogs and while studying it I was able to come up with my own version of this textarea. It is mostly used in forms (contact forms) but as a blogger you can employ it in holding codes for your tutorial posts. In the past I used to differentiate my codes from the rest of the post by giving the text its own light yellow bg color, font color of green and a consolas font face.

Now I can just call up a predefined class as an attribute of my customized text area and all the defined parameters such as font type, color, size are applied.

Here is an example of this text area with a CSS defined class

.txtarea is the class and I think the rest is self explanatory. The background-color, width, height, and border attributes affect the text area box and color and font affects the text inside the text box.

Below is the code and I have gone ahead to create 3 seperate classes. One is txtarea-small, the second is txtarea-medium and the third is txtarea-large. You would use txtarea-small to hold small codes, txtarea-medium for more than small codes and txtarea-large for large texts.

How to Submit Your Blogger Sitemap to Google

Sitemaps are very important for SEO because it gives the search engines the proper path to find, crawl and index your blog pages. In an earlier post I explained how to submit sitemap to bing. The procedure for giving your sitemap to google is not too different from that of Bing.
For google all you need do is to make a one-time submission based on the number of posts you have. Just like I said in the previous post, sitemaps are one of the factors for getting your blog high up in the SERPs.

In order to submit your blog sitemap to Google you need to get a Google Webmasters account first. This would be easy for you if you already have a Gmail account so I suggest you get one if you don't have. Now go to www.google.com/webmasters and you will be prompted to sign in to Webmaster tools.
Click on Sign In to Webmaster Tools.

After signing in you will be shown your dashboard where you can add your sites. Click on ADD A SITE on the right hand side of the screen and enter your blog URL. Click on Continue and you will be prompted to verify the site ownership.

On the same page click on the Alternate methods tab. Select the "Add a meta tag to your site's home page" option.
You will now have a unique meta tag code generated for you to verify your site.
Now log in to your Blogger account. Go to Design >> Edit HTML
Use your browser's find tool to search for <head> (Press Ctrl +F to do this)
Go to your Google webmasters browser tab and copy the verification code, then paste it after the head tag
Now save your template and go back to Google webmasters to click on the Verify button
You should now receive a confirmation that your site has been added

Steps to Add Your Sitemap to Google
After you have confirmed your site ownership head over to your Webmasters dashboard and click on your newly added blog link (not Manage site)
It will take you to the site dashboard
On the left hand side of the screen (Dashboard panel) click on Site configuration and select Sitemaps

Now click on ADD/TEST SITEMAP button
Enter the code below in the text area with your blog URL beside it
After that click Submit Sitemap. You may also want to use the Test Sitemap option before you finally submit it to see if it works

The code above is for posts between 1 and 500

If your post count is more than 500 then use the two codes below one at a time

To install the layer styles, open Photoshop

Simple But Important SEO Procedures for Bloggers

In my recent post on how to submit your blogger sitemap to bing/yahoo, I outlined some basic SEO strategies that you should do to improve your Search Engine Rank Position (SERP) and traffic. Below are the points again

Getting Quality backlinks
Writing quality content
Using the right keywords
Submitting your Sitemap to Google, Bing/Yahoo
Creating Videos and linking them to your blog
Submitting your site to Directories

There are several other ways by which you can rank your site. The methods are endless but I would just focus on the above points for now. It is very crucial to do SEO on your blog at least up to an extent before you start receiving traffic. It is also best to know how exactly to go about it. The methods by which you can rank your blog are constantly changing by the day as Google makes constant changes to its search algorithm in order to reduce spam and avoid junk sites showing up in search results.

Several years back, you could rank your website/blog well by giving it proper Meta tags. You could even actually spam google by stuffing your description and title tags with numerous keywords. SEO was not a pain in the neck then. However, as Google makes changes to its system, we also need to get ourselves updated and act accordingly.

The steps outlined above will work for you but you still need a lot of work to get that stream of traffic you desire. By doing SEO on your blog you want to try to improve your pagerank and gain backlinks as well. A higer Pagerank will improve your visibility on Google. Plenty quality backlinks will improve your SERP and pagerank and it will also give you free traffic depending on the traffic on the particular page on which your link is.

Just in case you're wondering what a backlink is, backlink is a link from your blog (be it the home page or an internal link e.g www.techbase.info/label/SEO) on another site.

Also pagerank is the score ranging from 0 - 10 that google awards your site based on the number/quality of backlinks, content you have. A new domain would usually have a pagerank of N/A and as it gets backlinks its pagerank moves to zero and then it continues to increase.

Before you SEO your site
I know you are very eager to SEO your site and get it high up in the SERPs but there's just a few things you need to do before embarking on your SEO project. What I'm talking about is simply the on-site SEO which involves your Meta tags optimization. You need to give your blog a good Title, Keywords and description. To do this first think about the keywords that apply to your niche and from this you should coin out your title, keywords and description tags.

How to Change Blog Title and Description in blogger
Log in to your blogger account
Go to the settings and on the basic tab you can change your title

How to Change the Keyword Tag
In order to do this you would need to get into the HTML of your blog template
Go to the Design tab
Click on Edit HTML
Use the find tool to search for <head>
After you have found the tag, scroll to where you have this <title
You can now place your keyword tag anywhere after the head tag or the title tag but before this </head>

Having done all that we can now talk about the SEO procedures. I would like to talk about the second option first because as you might have been seeing it all over the internet; CONTENT IS KING! Moreover, Google's latest algorithm mainly supports content so, we need to take that seriously first

Writing Quality Content
By writing quality content I mean that you should write your blog content from your own head. Do not copy and paste content from another site. I am not saying you cannot learn from other blogs and then write about what you've learnt. I am only saying that your site will actually lose trust and rank from Google if you like to do copy and paste.
You also need to be mindful of your word count. Make sure most of your content has good word count. Dont's be posting 200 word articles all the time. Google bots like to crawl sites that have good content.

Another important point about content is that having many blog posts actually ranks you higher. Google likes to know that you take your blog seriously and you actually have the time to update your content regularly. You should update your blog at least 2 times in a week. This is small though, but even if you are very busy it is achievable. For best results, try to update your blog like 5 times in a day. This can be a tedious job but once you have a lock on how to easily develop post ideas and quickly come up with good articles you would be able to achieve this easily. Even if you cannot do 5 times a day you should be able to do once a day which is still good.

Using The Right Keywords
Keywords are short phrases that relate to your niche. They are important in finding your blog through search engines. There are several ways in which keywords can be of effect to your site. Keywords are reflected in your meta tags, content, and backlinks.

How To Make a Keyword reflect in your Content
Say you have a blog on the Tech niche and you mainly blog about Tech Reviews, Blogger Tips and so on, you should be using keywords like "blogger tips" "technology reviews" "freebies and downloads" (and so on) in your blog posts. You might also need to make a little keyword research before you start implementing the keywords. Make a google search on "google keyword tool" to make use of Google's keyword research tool. Beware not to stuff your content with too much keyword though as this is considered as spamming by Big G (Google).

How to Make Your Keywords reflect in your backlinks
You can rank for specific keywords by placing backlinks on other sites with your anchor text as your target keyword. Say you want to rank and get traffic for the "blogger tips" you would create your backlink like this:

From the above code, blogger tips is the anchor text and www.techbase.info is your url. You can start ranking for that keyword as you increamentally create backlinks with it and if you do it enough you would have your URL on first page of google whenever anyone searches for the word "blogger tips"

In an earlier post I explained how to add your sitemap to Yahoo/Bing. I am going to make a post very soon on how to submit your sitemap to Google. The steps are straight forward too. You will learn from those two posts how to do this and why it is important. Sitemaps give search engines the right path to crawl and index your pages. Please read this post to learn how to submit your sitemap to Yahoo/Bing and subscribe to receive the post on how to submit your sitemap to Google. I will however update this post and link it to the Google sitemap post.

Creating Videos and linking them to your blog
This is not much of an SEO procedure like the rest but it can get you some traffic
YouTube is the most popular video sharing site with millions of views everyday. You can get a significant amount of traffic by posting videos on YouTube. You can make your viewers visit your site if you watermark your videos with your blog URL.
You can also place a link back to your blog in the description area of the video. You can easily make videos either by capturing your computer screen, recording through your computer web cam or using a digital video camera. Just make a video relating to your niche, post it on YouTube and you will receive some traffic from it. You should also use the right keywords for the video tags. An easy way to get ideas of what to record is to record something about your blog posts. You could explain how to download a software from a website. You could also create a post on that and embed your YouTube video in your blog post.

Social Bookmarking Sites
You can get quality backlinks from social bookmarking sites bu submitting your posts. Ensure to use the proper title and keywords. One social bookmarking. Below is a list of some of the best social bookmarking sites

Forums
There are many forums with several niches on the internet. Most of these forums have the option to include your site URL in your profile details. You can include a link to your blog in your forum posts. However, you should take note of forum rules as you might get a ban from some of these forums if you post a link without meeting a minimum requirement to do this.

Blogs
Most blogs have a comment form in which you can comment and some of these comment boxes accept links. Some comments have DoFollow properties while some don't. So, make sure you leave a backlink to your blog the next time you comment but don't over-do it and don't put your inks in blogs that are not relevant to yours. This might be counted as spamming.

Directories
Directories are a good way to rank your site and also gain instant traffic. However, you should be mindful of the kind of directory you put your links as many of them have already been blacklisted. However, I recomment Dmoz.org and Yahoo Directory.

Article Sites
This is one way to get a constant flow of traffic to your blog because many of these article sites have a very high volume of traffic and your articles would actually get indexed on them fast. I recommend thses article sites

Text Link Ads
You can gain high quality backlinks from several niche sites when you purchase text link ads. You can purchase text link ads from Google Adwords or Infolinks

Guest Post
You can get a good link juice from other people's blogs by writing a guest post for them and in turn get a back link to your blog. You can contact any blog owner in your niche and ask if the owner would like a guest post in return of a backlink favour. If the blow owner agrees, then write up a very good ariticle and submit it to him.

Link Exchange
You can get a link exchange from a blog or website. This is when there is an agreement to put the other blogger's link on your blog vice-versa.

Another good SEO practice that many bloggers are not aware of is tweaking the image alt tags on their blogs. Search engines do read image alt tags which is an alternate description of your web images if it does not load up. If it doesn't load, the alt title will be displayed in place of the image.

So you can actually give your images specific keywords and it will surely improve your serps.
To do this inside blogger, upload your images normally then switch to the html view of your post editor and search for the image URL you uploaded. You can insert your alt tag immediately after the image extension which is in this format

How to Add Your Blog Site Map To Bing/Yahoo

Every blog or website needs good and quality SEO in order to become visible in the search engines and ultimately gain a good amount of traffic.

There are several Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques that can be employed in getting your blog/website good traffic from the search engines and a very imporatant one of the procedures is submitting a site map to them.

Before I continue on this topic, let me briefly outline the various ways by which you can perfom good SEO for your site.

The first and most important one is Getting quality backlinks to your blog/website (especially dofollow links)
The next most important one is creating quality content on your blog/website (almost as good as the first point)
Using the right keywords for your blog/website (by doing keyword research)
Submitting your site map to Google, Bing/Yahoo
Creating videos and linking them to your blog/website through YouTube
Submitting your site to Directories

that you have those few points let's now continue with the topic.
What is a Site Map?
According Wikipedia; A sitemap is the list of pages of a website accessible to crawlers or users. It can be either a document in any form used as a planning tool for web design or a web page that lists the pages on a web site, typically organized in hierarchical fashion. It helps search engine bots find pages on sites.

Now that you know what a sitemap is I would also like to let you know that the search engines must have your sitemap in order for your web pages to be properly crawled. Crawling refers to the process by which a search engine scans the content of your website, keeping the information in its database.

In this post I will be focussing on how to generate and submit your blogger sitemap to Bing/Yahoo.
Sitemap submission to yahoo used to be done via Yahoo Site Explorer. However, Yahoo Site Explorer and Microsoft Bing Webmaster Tools was merged together last year on November 2011. As a result of this webmasters are required to submit sitemaps or perform other tasks using Bing webmaster Tools.

Site Explorer was launched way back in the year 2005 by Tim Mayer to keep a close watch on your site performance on the Yahoo search engine. Now, due to the merging together of Bing and Yahoo you do not need to do your job two ways again with Yahoo and Bing because submitting your sitemap to Bing will have effect on both Yahoo and Bing.

How to Add Your Blog Url to Bing
In order to do this you should first create an account on Bing Webmaster Tools. Before you do this get a Hotmail email account first.
Now follow the simple steps below to create a Bing Webmasters account

Log in to Bing Webmaster Tools using your hotmail account

Once you are logged in and you can see your dashboard click on Add Site

Add your blog URL e.g http://www.techbase.info
Next, click Submit and you will be prompted to verify your blog ownership.

There are three options to do this but I would like you to select the easiest which is the one that asks you to copy and paste some code into the section of your site.

Copy the code and log in to your blogger account.
Then go to the design tab and then click on Edit HTML.
Now scroll your HTML to where you have the <head> tag (opening head tag). place the
Save your template and you are through with that

Now go back to Bing Webmaster Tools and click on the Verify button

You should now wait for a couple of days (about 3 days) for your blog stats and data to start showing up.
After all these you will then be able to track traffic to your blog. You can add as many sites as you like provided you can verify them.

How to Add Your Sitemap to Bing
It has been established earlier that Bing and Yahoo have been merged so you should now know that whatever you do on Bing Webmaster Tool is also having effect on Yahoo. You also now know that sitemaps help search engines in crawling and consequently indexing your site. You should also now know that submitting your sitemap to the search engine can also be said to be pinging them. Alright now, let's get how to ping Bing. I like that rhyme: PingBing : )

Before we do that let me let you know that the process of pinging your blogger blog is different from how you would do it on a self hosted blog/site. The procedure for doing it for a hosted site involves generating your sitemap in an XML type file which you can actually include a link to on any of your web pages and it will be used by the search engines once the page on which the sitemap is has been indexed. Sitemaps can be generated using sitemap generating software. You can also make use of the free online sitemap generators. You can also manually submit it to Google and Bing.

To add your sitemap to Bing (Ping Bing ; ) )
Note that you must have at least 15 posts to do this.
Use this option if the number of your posts is between 1 and 500

Copy the link below
Paste it in your browser address bar
Replace www.techbase.info with your blog URL and enter

Use the above code and this one if your posts are between 501 and 1000

Use this plus the two above if your posts are between 1000 and 1500

To check if the ping is effective, type the URL of your latest post in Bing/Yahoo search bar and see if your blog appears.
If it does not appear check back in at most 5 days after the date of submission. If you don't see it still, repeat the procedures all over again and it should work.

How to Install Blogger Templates

Blogger itself gives you the option to choose from a wealth of available templates but the available blogger templates are not the best. There are numerous templates available for you to download and use on your blogger blog. Installing your template in blogger is very easy. Just follow the simple steps below.

How to Create Prov File Using Java Proxy Generator Software

I created a tutorial earlier on How to create prov file for Nokia S40(Java) phones online. This post is for those who do not want to go online or just if you want to do it at your own convenience and even add some customizations. Using this Java proxy Generator software, you can easily create prov files. With this software you can set the homepage and even configure the MMS application.

The software is easy to use. Below is a demonstration.

To create a default MTN prov file

Start the prov generator software
Enter the desired name for the config file(The name it will display in connection settings)
Enter the IP address and port number

For the Internet APPLICATION (W-2) part you should enter the homepage you want it to automatically visit when you open your phone main browser(not Opera Mini)

Set theAccess point
Set the username and password like so:

Next, click on Generate PROV

The prov file will be created in the same folder that the software is placed

The next thing to do is send it to your Java/S40 Nokia phone via Bluetooth or copy it to a Symbian OS phone or any other phone that can save and still send it as a prov file through a file explorer software such as FExplorer, Y-Browser, etc.
