What's NOT included: Taking Paid Surveys, Getting Paid to Surf the Internet, MLM, Contest Sites, "Buy my DVD, CD, Audiobook", etc.

What IS included: Things you can use to legitimately make money online - Everything from Getting Paid to review software to good ole' Adsense.

Infolinks - Infolinks is probably the highest paying option for your in-text advertising. On DLM, you will see underlined links scattered throughout articles. Those are a function of Infolinks and without disclosing too much, it's been a great source of income. Best is that they accept all sizes of websites and blogs. Just sign up and begin.

Build a Niche Store - This is a simple store development platform which enables you to create content based sites that generate income through the eBay affiliate programs. Pretty darn simple and increasingly popular.

Adbrite - Sell space on your site for text ads. This would work like the DLM Marketplace you see on the right of my pages although I chose to manage it myself.

Amazon Affiliate Program - Easily create a store or shopping section on your site instead of sending your visitors to Amazon. Amazon handles the shopping cart and fulfillment.

Amazon Seller - Sell your stuff on Amazon

Associated Content - If you write a story, how-to, rant, how-to cut grass, etc., you can submit it to them and they will pay you $3-$20 per article if they like it.

Yahoo! Merchant Solutions - This is a pretty simple and cheap way to create an online store.

Azoogleads - Another ad program. They do have some decent companies lined up as advertisers. You provide space, they'll provide an ad.

BidVertiser - PPC (pay per click) program with a low $10 payout amount.

Blog - Start a blog and consistently write excellent content. With good ad placement, you may make some money. I detail my process here: Simply Said, How to Blog.

Cafepress - You provide a design, they'll toss it on a T-Shirt, Hat, etc. No upfront costs. Get a free online shop and promote your products on your website.

Chitika - Their eMiniMalls service has shown great results for many Bloggers and site owners. You choose a keyword and they show relevant products on your site using a pretty unique interface.

Clickbank - Quickly becoming my favorite affiliate program. They have thousands of things for you to advertise on your site.

ClicknWork - Get paid $5-$150 per hour for basically doing freelance work on a per-assignment basis. You have to pass a pretty tough test to get in.

Clicksor - These are the guys that generate contextual ads on sites that show up when you hover over a double-underlined word.

Commission Junction - If you have a site, you can join Commission Junction. Once enrolled for free, you can choose companies whose ads are pertinent to your site. Companies have the ultimate say on working with you. There are easily over 1,000 companies to choose from here.

CreamAid - For blogs only, advertisers provide you with a topic and you write about it on your site. To do this, you have to install a flash widget into your blog post. The more people you bring into the conversation through the widget, the more you get paid. It's difficult to explain.

eefoof - Think of it as YouTube + Flickr + Music. You add original content and they pay you based on the visitors you attract.

Ether - If you are an expert on something, Ether provides a way for people to pay you to talk about it in a one-on-one setting. If you want to charge $250/hr, that's fine. You have to do all the advertising so you should have a blog or site already established.

eBay- Come on, you know what this is. Gather your junk and sell it!

eBay Stores - If you have a real store and want to sell your stuff online, this is a decent option to get you started.

ELance - Name gives it away. Programmers, Codes, Web Designers, Writers, Editors, can look for freelance opportunities.

Feedvertising - This is an arm of Text Link Ads and is currently only good for Wordpress users. This does me no good currently, but as you can guess, they place ads in your feed(s).

Feedburner / Google - Not only are they the best place to house your feeds, they will also add ads to your feed and website. You get paid per impression and if you implement Google Adsense to your feed, you are paid per click.

Google Adsense - Come on, you don't need an explanation; these ads are all over the place. Google displays relevant ads based on your site's content

Google Adwords - Create simple text ads and choose keywords that determine when they are displayed. This is where the Adsense Content comes from. You do not need a site for this.

H3.com - Get paid to fill jobs. Commissions range from $50-$5,000. It all depends on how tough the job is to fill and how desperate the hiring company is. This is another one that's tough to explain.

Indeed.com - Add their job board to your site. They then post jobs based on the geographic location of visitors and the position types you pre-select. I tried it and I they continually report that I sent 0 visitors and I know that's not right. Nevertheless, I may have an isolated problem so they make the list.

InnerSell - If you have a customer that wants to buy something you cannot sell, you can sell the lead here.

Jigsaw - It's a pretty flaky model but if you have a Rolodex full of good contacts, you can sell them here. I can't make sense of it but it looks like you get $0.10 per profile.

LinkShare.com - If you have a site, you can join Linkshare. Once enrolled for free, you can choose companies whose ads are pertinent to your site. Companies have the ultimate say on working with you. Like Commission Junction, there are a ton of companies waiting to evaluate your site.

Microsoft Adcenter - Bid on keywords and Microsoft places your created ads then they are searched for. This is similar to Google Adwords. You do not need a site for this.

Overstock.com - Sell your stuff on Overstock.com

Pay Per Post - I don't agree with this model entirely but they have advertisers that will pay you to write about their products on your blog.

Pheedo - If you have an RSS feed, run it through Pheedo. Like Feedburner, they can include ads into your feed and if you really become large, advertisers will pay a premium for you to show their ads.

Shareasale.com - I've used them for a couple years for some banner advertising. They are similar to Commission Junction and Linkshare however they seem to have lower tiered companies with advertising offers.

Shoemoney - This is a blog that can teach you a ton on making money online. I've spent hours reading his old stuff.

Software Judge - They will pay you up to $50 to review software.

Text Link Ads - I have never made a dime here but I know people that have. You can earn by sending advertisers to them or by selling spots on your site. You must have a real site or blog to do this - nothing on a shared domain (i.e. /blogspot).

Vibrant Media - Don't bother unless your site has 500,000 page views of text based content a month. If you have that readership, these are the guys that display bubble box ads to underlined words on your site.

West Work At Home Agent - Not entirely online but this is worth a mention because it's won awards and is very legitimate. If you are an at-home Mom or free-lancer without work, you should check this out.

The third and final Calendar lab application is Automatically Declining Events which can be used to define periods in time when all event invitations will automatically be declined. This can be very useful during holidays or work related travels so that other users are informed immediately about a person’s absence.
Unfortunately, the multi-touch technology has not reach the phase in which it could be used in a device with such a small interface. Nevertheless, Sidewinder watch phone is still worth mentioning on Gadgets.

The designer says that the watch phone has several menus and boasts a number of tools such as contacts, keypad, GPS, maps and other features that can be found today on smartphones. In addition, the Sidewinder incorporates multi-touch technology.

So go and watch at least instead of buying it.

Facebook Chat now working in iChat, Pidgin, Adium, and more

Since its inception in April of 2008, Facebook Chat has remained an exclusive domain of the web interface, requiring users to log in to their Facebook account in order to exchange messages with their friends.
That changed Wednesday when the social networking giant announced plans to make Facebook Chat available on just about any third-party instant messaging client built on an open, XML-based protocol formerly named Jabber.
A Facebook engineer David Reiss wrote in a company blog post that users can now exchange instant messages in their favorite chat client without logging in to their Facebook account on the web:

By integrating Facebook Chat with your preferred instant messenger

, you’ll never miss a message when you have o navigate away from Facebook and you’ll be in control of how and where you chat with your Facebook friends. Simply connect your Facebook account with the instant messaging client of your choice and start chatting. You will not need to stay logged in to Facebook.com to continue to access your Facebook friends.
Your chat client will show only your Facebook friends belonging to Friend Lists enabled in Facebook Chat on the site. You can go offline on Facebook Chat either by closing your instant messaging client or clicking “go offline” in your Facebook Chat options on the web. The company said it built support for Facebook Chat into Facebook Connect for developers, allowing third-party sites, desktop or mobile instant messaging applications, and services to integrate Facebook Chat experiences.
As we reported earlier this week, AOL Instant Messenger, AOL’s messaging client also built on the Jabber protocol, filed as the first third-party chat client to support Facebook Chat in a new version of the software, currently in beta. Meanwhile, Facebook has posted simple instructions detailing how to enable Facebook Chat in a number of Jabber-based instant messaging clients, including iChat, Adium, Pidgin, and other Windows/Mac/Linux clients.

In order to enable Facebook Chat in Mac OS X’s iChat, go to the applications preferences, click the Accounts tab, and a new Jabber account. Next, provide your screen name in the form of username@chat.facebook.com and your Facebook password. You also need to add chat.facebook.com at port 5222 in your Server Options and un-check the SSL option. Instructions for other chat clients follow a similar approach.
Theoretically, you should be able to enable Facebook Chat in any chat client that uses the Jabber protocol, including Google Talk in Gmail. However, widely-used instant messaging apps like Skype, ICQ, and Windows Live Messenger can’t connect to Facebook Chat because they use proprietary protocols rather than Jabber.

Many commentators, this author included, noticed that Facebook opened up its chat following the Google Buzz announcement. The search giant introduced the Buzz service earlier this week in an effort to draw consumers away from Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks by offering a tight integration of content sharing features inside the Gmail web interface. Facebook claims than two billion chat messages are exchanged on its site every day.Read more in Facebook’s blog post.

How to find out Password of files via google

I know how frustrating it is when you download a large file from the net to find out that it is locked with
a password, which you dont have. Cracking the password with softwares like Advanced password recovery
is out of the question bcoz it takes nearly 3 days to guess a 8 character long password. And noone can spend that
kinda time.

I am gonna post a method to find out passwords for archive files which you downloaded from file sharers like -
Rapidshare, Megaupload .........

It is pretty easy, fast and doesnt require you to use any software other than a Browser.

What you need -
1. A browser (preferably Mozilla FireFox)
2. The file for which you are searching the password must be popular.

How to do it -

Lets assume that one wants to find password for this file -

http://rapidshare.de/files/5968004/Dead.To.Rights.2-RELOADED.part01.rar.html

In the Google Search toolbar in FireFox copy the name of the file, in this case - Dead.To.Rights.2-RELOADED.part01.rar
http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/3576/captured25zfll6oe8.jpg
full image

http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/9770/captured25zfll6.jpg

Or you can manually go to www.google.com and search in the default search box.

[Note that the full link to sites has been masked in order to preserve board policy]

By checkin the Actual Url one can see that /forum/index.php?showtopic=8927&view=findpost&p=119588
is a link to a topic in a forum, and hence by clicking on the link, we are taken to a forum page.

The forum is in some other language, but it doesnt matter. On scrolling down the page one can see
the links to the file for which we need the password. And most probably the password will posted at the end
of the link list, like this -
http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/5648/captured31mpoa6wv1.jpg
full image

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/8834/captured31mpoa6.jpg

it is not posted then you can try the other links or search in other search engines or you can even add " " to the keyword and then search.

Hope this small guide was helpful to you. Now you no longer need to ask others for the password to files.

If u still not able to find the password: enter the 8 digit code in the rapidshare link... along with word rapidshare

so ur keyword for the above link shud be
5968004 rapidshare
... then u will definitely find the password

Cleaning Unnecessay Space From System Restore

U'll wonder how much space the system restore files have occupied in ur system... when u've observed the windows drive (Usually C:/) the size reduces day by day (if not observed, try to make it from now)... the unnecesary files will be in the temp folder (type "%temp%" in run) and this doesn't consume u much unless u install big softwares like photoshop or the like... but in the system restore, files r added regularly and when u delete some files from ur system, it'll not be deleted completely but stored in this system restore (SystemVolumeInformation) for using them in case u restore the system back.. but this is of no use, but storing the files and occupying unnecessary space...
But windows have the default service of deleting this unnecessary files of very past...

It is very Simple...just follow the steps:

right click the C:/ Drive --> Properties --> Disk CleanUp

in the Disk CleanUp Window, click the "More Options" Tab

Come down to the bottom where u see the "System Restore" and Press "CleanUp..."

Clik ok and now see that ur system would have recovered some space...

Note:

the thing in here is it'll not delete all the restore points but the old restore points..

u can see the files in the restore point by goin to the SystemVolumeInformation (SVI) in C:/ (for other drives it'll not open)

another important thing is that the virus files that were in ur system in the past will be present in this SVI folder

when u delete some files(Shift+delete) like exe or some other files, the sys takes a copy of that file in SVI to restore it back when needed... so think of it, how much space it could've comsumed unknowing to u... u can go to the SVI folder in C:/ Drive

this happens to all the Drives but could not be seen from the corresponding SVI folder, but can be removed from the above method..

ucan also delete files from Temp folder.. when it show u some error msgdon worry, leave that particular file and delete the remaining

do it regularly so that u can bet, ur sys have some place for ur files...

Additional Info:

u can go directly to the disk cleanup window by typing "cleanmgr /d c" ,w/o quotes, in Run...

u can restore ur sys at any point or create own restore point by goin to system restore point (shortcut is Type "restore/rstrui" in Run)

to view the SVI folder (it'll be hidden) go to folder options from tools menu in the explorer --> View --> click "Show hidden files and folders" then deselect "Hide protected operating sys Files(Recommended)" --> ok.. Now u can see the SVI folder in any drive but can access only that of C:/

According to them, Microsoft plans on publicly showcasing its new mobile operating system to the attendees at Mobile World Congress at Barcelona on Monday. Their source comes from “people familiar with the matter” and goes on to say that “the operating system sports a revamped user interface that resembles the look of Microsoft's Zune HD music player.” Aside from all the talking pointing to Windows Mobile 7, there is a handset in the works that is aimed for teenagers – which is codenamed Pink. This Pink phone will actually be the successor to the T-Mobile Sidekick with its youth-oriented software and services powered by Danger – of course, it'll emphasize on social networking applications. Japan's Sharp Corp. is manufacturing the Pink phone and is expected to be sold internationally by Verizon Wireless and Vodafone Group PLC as early as spring. Now the Pink phone won't be unveiled during MWC and we will have to wait on a later date to witness an announcement. Still, news about Windows Mobile 7 should really get enough people excited at what Microsoft has planned for the event.

Google Maps Navigation to hopefully hit Europe soon

Android 2.0 and above owners have the privilege of using Google Maps Navigation for some time in the US – providing a free alternative to other popular voice guided GPS services. Unfortunately for our friends across the big pond, Europe has been in the dark when it comes to the application. You'd think it'd be so simple to just launch the service, but it's actually a bit more complicated than one can imagine. In Europe, Google needs to work with local partners such as Navteq (Nokia) or Tele Atlas (TomTom) to provide maps of Europe. They could potentially be holding the required maps cache that Google needs to properly implement navigation. Still there is a rumor about how Google is working with a company in the Netherlands to quickly get this feature out to Europe. Their pleas aren't falling on deaf ear, thankfully, as the recent withdrawal of Navteq from the Android Market might indicate its eventual arrival on the continent.

How to get Traffic in to your Blog

Here are some few ways by which you can get Traffic to your blog.

Use lists.

Be topical... write posts that need to be read right now.

Learn enough to become the expert in your field.

Break news.

Be timeless... write posts that will be readable in a year.

Be among the first with a great blog on your topic, then encourage others to blog on the same topic.

Share your expertise generously so people recognize it and depend on you.

Announce news.

Write short, pithy posts.

Encourage your readers to help you manipulate the technorati top blog list.

Don't write about your cat, your boyfriend or your kids.

Write long, definitive posts.

Write about your kids.

Be snarky. Write nearly libelous things about fellow bloggers, daring them to respond (with links back to you) on their blog.

Be sycophantic. Share linklove and expect some back.

Include polls, meters and other eye candy.

Tag your posts. Use del.ico.us.

Coin a term or two.

Do email interviews with the well-known.

Answer your email.

Use photos. Salacious ones are best.

Be anonymous.

Encourage your readers to digg your posts. (and to use furl and reddit). Do it with every post.

Post your photos on flickr.

Encourage your readers to subscribe by RSS.

Start at the beginning and take your readers through a months-long education.

Include comments so your blog becomes a virtual water cooler that feeds itself.

Assume that every day is the beginning, because you always have new readers.

Highlight your best posts on your Squidoo lens.

Point to useful but little-known resources.

Write about stuff that appeals to the majority of current blog readers--like gadgets and web 2.0.

Write about Google.

Have relevant ads that are even better than your content.

Don't include comments, people will cross post their responses.

Write posts that each include dozens of trackbacks to dozens of blog posts so that people will notice you.

Run no ads.

Keep tweaking your template to make it include every conceivable bell or whistle.

Write about blogging.

Digest the good ideas of other people, all day, every day.

Invent a whole new kind of art or interaction.

Post on weekdays, because there are more readers.

Write about a never-ending parade of different topics so you don't bore your readers.

Post on weekends, because there are fewer new posts.

Don't interrupt your writing with a lot of links.

Dress your blog (fonts and design) as well as you would dress yourself for a meeting with a stranger.

Edit yourself. Ruthlessly.

Don't promote yourself and your business or your books or your projects at the expense of the reader's attention.

Be patient.

Give credit to those that inspired, it makes your writing more useful.

Ping technorati. Or have someone smarter than me tell you how to do it automatically.

Write about only one thing, in ever-deepening detail, so you become definitive.

Write in English.

Better, write in Chinese.

Write about obscure stuff that appeals to an obsessed minority.

Don't be boring.

Write stuff that people want to read and share

Google disagreed, saying on Thursday that the amended settlement agreement complies with the law. "With only one significant exception, the parties sought to implement every suggestion the United States (Justice Department) made in its September submission," Web search leader said.
That exception was a decision to keep books in the project unless authors decided to opt out. Finding all the authors in question and requiring them to sign up for the program "would eviscerate the purposes of the ASA (amended settlement agreement)," it said.
Google also argued that the deal did not harm libraries and did nothing to stop other groups seeking to digitize books.
"The ASA will enable the parties to make available to people throughout the country millions of out-of-print books," Google said in its brief. "This is precisely the kind of beneficial innovation that the antitrust laws are intended to encourage, not to frustrate."
Google also took a swing at corporate rivals, noting that Microsoft Corp had abandoned its own book project.
"Competitors such as Amazon raise anxieties about Google's potential market position, but ignore their own entrenched market dominance," Google said in its brief.
Another objection has been that it is inappropriate to use the class action mechanism "to implement forward-looking business arrangements." But, Google said, the Justice Department did not point to any cases disapproving a settlement on those grounds.
Google further sought to downplay the economic significance of the books in the project, saying that most were either out of copyright or no longer in print. The authors of most of the books in neighborhood bookstores would withhold their books from the project.
The Open Book Alliance, made up of Google's corporate rivals, some library and writers groups and other groups digitizing books, rejected Google's arguments.
"Despite the spin from Google's attorneys, the amended settlement will still offer the search and online advertising giant exclusive access to books it has illegally scanned to the detriment of consumers, authors and competition," the group said in an email statement.
US District Judge Denny Chin, who must approve the class action suit for it to go into effect, has scheduled a hearing on the settlement for February 18.
The agreement is designed to settle a 2005 class action lawsuit filed against Google by authors and publishers who had accused the search engine giant of copyright infringement for scanning collections of books from four universities and the New York Public Library.
The Justice Department recommended in September that the agreement be rejected.
Faced with this and other opposition, Google and a group of authors and publishers made a series of changes to the deal in November that has failed to stem criticism of it.
The case is The Authors Guild et al v. Google, Inc, US District Court, Southern District of New York, No. 05-08136.

1. Increase max IE7 downloads

Internet Explorer 7 only allows you to download two files from the same server at a time. This is not a software limit but rather a limit imposed based on the web standard. Since this is simply a software setting, it can be modified and you can increase the limit to something much high such as 10. Follow the steps below to increase your max downloads from the same server:

1. Click on the Start Button and type in Regedit.
2. When Registry Editor loads navigate through HKEY_CURRENT_USER,
Software, Microsoft, Windows, CurrentVersion and Internet Settings.
3. Right click on MaxConnectionsPerServer and select Modify. Set the
decimal value to something greater than 2.
4. Right click on MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server and select Modify. Set the
decimal value to something greater than 2.
5. Reboot.
2. Enhance SATA disk performance

Do you have a SATA disk drive in your computer? If so, you can squeeze a little more performance out of your hard disk. This speeds up the performance of your hard disk by enhancing write caching. However, if your computer is not connected to a battery backup and you loose power you have a increased risk for data loss or corruption. If you have a laptop your chances are data loss or corruption are dramatically less since your laptop battery will kick on if your power source is lost. Let's get started:

1. Click on the Start Button and key in Device Manager and hit Enter.
2. Expand Disk Drives.
3. Right click on your hard drive and select Properties.
4. On the Policies tab, check Enable advanced performance.
5. Hit OK and close Device Manager.

3. Stop User Account Control (UAC) screen flicker / flash

Follow the steps below to disable UAC secure desktop:

1. Click on the Start Button and key in secpol.msc and hit Enter.
2. Navigate through Local Policies and Security Options.
3. Scroll to the bottom and right click on "User Account Control: Switch to
the secure desktop when prompting for elevation" and select Properties.
4. Set the option to Disabled and hit OK.

4. Boost your performance with ReadyBoost

Windows Vista has many new features that are designed to help older computers run Windows Vista better. One of those features and the topic of this tweak is called ReadyBoost. ReadyBoost helps your computer by giving it more high-speed memory. If your computer is running low on RAM then it has to kick a lot of applications out of high-speed physical memory to the paging file on your hard drive. This usually results in a big hit in performance and increased activity on your hard drive. ReadyBoost helps this situation by giving Windows an alternative to having to stick data into the slow paging file on your hard drive. Instead, ReadyBoost uses a USB storage device that is faster than a hard disk. This results in a performance boost because Windows will have a high speed alternative than using the slow paging file on your hard drive.

In order for ReadyBoost to work, it requires a USB storage device that meets minimum performance and space requirements:

* The device must be at least 64 MB
* The device must be USB 2.0
* It has to be able to read at 3.5 MB/s
* It has to be able to write at 2.5 MB/s

If you are unsure if your USB storage device meets these requirements, just give it a try anyways. To get started using ReadyBoost, follow these steps:

1. Plug in USB storage device.
2. Go to Computer and right click on the removable storage device and select Properties.
3. If your device is compatible, you will see a ReadyBoost tab. Click on that.
4. Select Use this device and select the amount of space on it you want to dedicate for the ReadyBoost system file.
5. Click OK and you are finished.

5. Speed up Start Menu Search (New Method)

The search box on the new Start Menu in Windows Vista can be very useful for everyday tasks. This search box is very powerful because not only does it search the start menu and control panel, but it also searches your pictures, documents and even your e-mails. The scope of the search is very wide and you can see some performance benefits if you narrow it down to just searching the start menu and control panel. Follow these steps to optimize your start menu search:

1. Right click on the start button and select Properties.
2. Click on the Customize button.
3. Remove the check from Search Communications.
4. Set Search Files to Don't search for files.
5. Click OK.
6. Click OK once more.

6. Disable User Account Control (UAC) only for Administrators

I'm sure you are well aware now of the advantages and disadvantages of UAC. It is great for non-admin users because it protects their computer from themselves. For advanced users, it can be a much different story causing many annoying authorization pop-ups. This is most common when you are doing a lot of activities that require admin rights such as installing applications and configuring Windows Vista after a fresh install. There is one practical solution to this issue that will help you with the UAC pop-ups if they annoy you and still benefit from the security of UAC.

This can be achieved by adjusting the local security policy to essentially disable UAC for administrators while leaving it enabled for low rights users. When you are using your PC for normal day-to-day use, log in with your low rights account. If you need to install a bunch of applications and make major system configuration changes then log in with your admin account. With fast user switching in Windows Vista you can easily switch between your accounts with little effort.

Follow these steps to disable UAC only for administrators:

1. Click on the Start button and type in secpol.msc and hit Enter.
2. Expand Local Policies and then Security Options.
3. Scroll to the bottom and locate "User Account Control: behavior of the elevation prompt for administrators in Admin Approval Mode".
4. Right click on this setting and select Properties.
5. Set the value to Elevate without prompting.
6. Reboot.

7. Start Menu Privacy Tweaks

Every time you open up a document or launch a program Windows Vista keeps track of this information to build the list of application for recently run applications and recent documents list. This can be a convenience or it can be a privacy problems if you use a shared computer. If that is the case, then anyone that uses the computer after you can see what applications you like to run and also see the name of the documents or photos that you looked at.

In Windows Vista Microsoft has provided a easy way to tweak this setting. Follow the steps below to protect your privacy:

1. Right click on the taskbar and select Properties.
2. Click on the Start Menu tab.
3. Uncheck Store and display a list of recently opened files.
4. Uncheck Store and display a list of recently opened programs.
5. Hit OK and you are finished.

Now the applications that you launch and the documents & photos that you look at are no longer recorded.

8. Extend Activation period

Would you like to extend the activation period to the maximum 120 days instead of the 30 day period that is set by default? It is possible and legal to do this using the software licensing manager in Windows Vista. Simply run slmgr -rearm in CMD or at START-RUN to get another 30 days. You can do this a maximum of three times before Microsoft blocks further ******************s.

9. Enable Vista Glass on Intel GMA 950 Graphics Cards

Currently Windows Vista does not have WDDM support for the Intel GMA950 integrated graphics card. Even though this card is integrated, it supports all of the requirements for Vista Glass. It is just a matter of getting a driver that is compatible with it and vista.

After doing a ton of research, I found that there is another driver that you can actually use for now. There are some problems with it, such if you have a laptop, the external monitor port does not always work but other than that it works great for me on my Lenovo X60.

This is how I got Vista Glass to run on a GMA950:

1. First, I had to open up device manager. Click on the start menu and type in devmgmt.msc and Enter to load it up.
2. Once there, expand the Display Adapters section and right click on each device and select Uninstall.
3. Reboot the computer.
4. When it restarts, it should install a generic video driver so your screen will still work.
5. Go back into Device Manager, expand the Display Adapters section again and then right click on the device and select Update Driver.
6. This time select Browse My Computer for Driver and then Let me pick it from a list.
7. Go the the Intel section and select the Intel® Lakeport Graphics Controller.
8. Hit OK and install the new driver. Restart your computer.
9. Once you have rebooted, right click on your desktop and select Personalize again.
10. Click on Windows Colors and Appearance.
11. Click on Open classic appearance properties for more color options.
12. In the Color Scheme box, select Windows Vista Aero.
13. Hit OK and glass will now load.

If glass does not work for you, go back to Device Manager and ensure the new display driver is working. You may have to update your system BIOS version. I had to update the BIOS version on the X60 in order for the new driver to work.

10. Resize Partitions with Vista Disk Management

In Windows Vista it is now possible to resize partitions without any data loss in the new Disk Management console.

Resizing Partitions with Windows Vista:

1. Click on the Start Button and right click on Computer and select Manage.
2. Expand the Storage section and select Disk Management.
3. Then just right click on any partition and select either Expand or Shrink to change the size of the partition.

This will allow you to safely resize your partitions without any data loss.

10 Things You Can Do When Windows XP Won't Boot

When your computer hardware appears to power up okay, but the Windows XP operating system won't boot properly, you have to begin a troubleshooting expedition that includes getting into the operating system, determining the problem, and then fixing it. To help you get started on this expedition, here are 10 things you can do when Windows XP won't boot.

1. Use a Windows startup disk

One of the first things you should reach for when troubleshooting a Windows XP boot problem is a Windows startup disk. This floppy disk can come in handy if the problem is being caused when either the startup record for the active partition or the files that the operating system uses to start Windows have become corrupted.

To create a Windows startup disk, insert a floppy disk into the drive of a similarly configured, working Windows XP system, launch My Computer, right-click the floppy disk icon, and select the Format command from the context menu. When you see the Format dialog box, leave all the default settings as they are and click the Start button. Once the format operation is complete, close the Format dialog box to return to My Computer, double-click the drive C icon to access the root directory, and copy the following three files to the floppy disk:
• Boot.ini
• NTLDR
• Ntdetect.com
After you create the Windows startup disk, insert it into the floppy drive on the afflicted system and press [Ctrl][Alt][Delete] to reboot the computer. When you boot from the Windows startup disk, the computer will bypass the active partition and boot files on the hard disk and attempt to start Windows XP normally.

2. Use Last Known Good Configuration

You can also try to boot the operating system with the Last Known Good Configuration feature. This feature will allow you to undo any changes that caused problems in the CurrentControlSet registry key, which defines hardware and driver settings. The Last Known Good Configuration feature replaces the contents of the CurrentControlSet registry key with a backup copy that was last used to successfully start up the operating system.

To use the Last Known Good Configuration feature, first restart the computer by pressing [Ctrl][Alt][Delete]. When you see the message Please select the operating system to start or hear the single beep, press [F8] to display the Windows Advanced Options menu. Select the Last Known Good Configuration item from the menu and press [Enter].
Keep in mind that you get only one shot with the Last Known Good Configuration feature. In other words, if it fails to revive your Windows XP on the first attempt, the backup copy is also corrupt.

3. Use System Restore

Another tool that might be helpful when Windows XP won't boot is System Restore. System Restore runs in the background as a service and continually monitors system-critical components for changes. When it detects an impending change, System Restore immediately makes backup copies, called restore points, of these critical components before the change occurs. In addition, System Restore is configured by default to create restore points every 24 hours.

To use System Restore, first restart the computer by pressing [Ctrl][Alt][Delete]. When you see the message Please select the operating system to start or hear the single beep, press [F8] to display the Windows Advanced Options menu. Now, select the Safe Mode item from the menu and press [Enter].
Once Windows XP boots into Safe mode, click the Start button, access the All Programs | Accessories | System Tools menu, and select System Restore. Because you're running in Safe mode, the only option on the opening screen of the System Restore wizard is Restore My Computer To An Earlier Time, and it's selected by default, so just click Next. Then, follow along with the wizard to select a restore point and begin the restoration procedure.

4. Use Recovery Console

When a Windows XP boot problem is severe, you'll need to use a more drastic approach. The Windows XP CD is bootable and will provide you with access to a tool called Recovery Console.
To boot from the Windows XP CD, insert it into the CD-ROM drive on the problem system and press [Ctrl][Alt][Delete] to reboot the computer. Once the system begins booting from the CD, simply follow the prompts that will allow the loading of the basic files needed to run Setup. When you see the Welcome To Setup screen, shown in Figure A, press R to start the Recovery Console.
You’ll then see a Recovery Console menu, like the one shown in Figure B. It displays the folder containing the operating system’s files and prompts you to choose the operating system you want to log on to. Just press the menu number on the keyboard, and you'll be prompted to enter the Administrator’s password. You’ll then find yourself at the main Recovery Console prompt.

5. Fix a corrupt Boot.ini

As the Windows XP operating system begins to load, the Ntldr program refers to the Boot.ini file to determine where the operating system files reside and which options to enable as the operating system continues to load. So if there's a problem rooted in the Boot.ini file, it can render Windows XP incapable of booting correctly.

If you suspect that Windows XP won't boot because Boot.ini has been corrupted, you can use the special Recovery Console version of the Bootcfg tool to fix it. Of course, you must first boot the system with the Windows XP CD and access the Recovery Console as described in #4.

To use the Bootcfg tool, from the Recovery Console command prompt, type Bootcfg /parameter. Where /parameter is one of the required parameters listed in the table below.

Parameter
/Add : Scans the disk for all Windows installations and allows you to add any new ones to the Boot.ini file.
/Scan : Scans the disk for all Windows installations.
/List : Lists each entry in the Boot.ini file.
/Default : Sets the default operating system as the main boot entry.
/Rebuild : Completely re-creates the Boot.ini file. The user must confirm each step.
/Redirect : Allows the boot operation to be redirected to a specific port when using the Headless Administration feature. The Redirect parameter takes two parameters of its own: [Port Baudrate ] | [UseBiosSettings].
/Disableredirect : Disables the redirection.

6. Fix a corrupt partition boot sector

The partition boot sector is a small section of the hard disk partition that contains information about the operating system's file system (NTFS or FAT32), as well as a very small machine language program that is crucial in assisting the operating system as it loads.

If you suspect that Windows XP won't boot because the partition boot sector has been corrupted, you can use a special Recovery Console tool called Fixboot to fix it. Start by booting the system with the Windows XP CD and accessing the Recovery Console as described in #4.
To use the Fixboot tool, from the Recovery Console command prompt, type Fixboot [drive]:
Where [drive] is the letter of the drive to which you want to write a new partition boot sector.

7. Fix a corrupt master boot record

The master boot record occupies the first sector on the hard disk and is responsible for initiating the Windows boot procedure. The master boot record contains the partition table for the disk as well as a small program called the master boot code, which is responsible for locating the active, or bootable, partition, in the partition table. Once this occurs, the partition boot sector takes over and begins loading Windows. If the master boot record is corrupt, the partition boot sector can't do its job and Windows won't boot.

If you suspect Windows XP won't boot because the master boot record has been corrupted, you can use the Recovery Console tool Fixmbr to fix it. First, boot the system with the Windows XP CD and access the Recovery Console as described in #4.

To use the Fixmbr tool, from the Recovery Console command prompt, type Fixmbr [device_name].Where [device_name] is the device pathname of the drive to which you want to write a new master boot record. For example, the device pathname format for a standard bootable drive C configuration would look like this: \Device\HardDisk0

8. Disable automatic restart

When Windows XP encounters a fatal error, the default setting for handling such an error is to automatically reboot the system. If the error occurs while Windows XP is booting, the operating system will become stuck in a reboot cycle—rebooting over and over instead of starting up normally. In that case, you'll need to disable the option for automatically restarting on system failure.

When Windows XP begins to boot up and you see the message Please select the operating system to start or hear the single beep, press [F8] to display the Windows Advanced Options Menu. Then, select the Disable The Automatic Restart On System Failure item and press [Enter]. Now, Windows XP will hang up when it encounters the error and with any luck, it will display a stop message you can use to diagnose the problem.

9. Restore from a backup

If you can't seem to repair a Windows XP system that won't boot and you have a recent backup, you can restore the system from the backup media. The method you use to restore the system will depend on what backup utility you used, so you'll need to follow the utility's instructions on how to perform a restore operation.

10. Perform an in-place upgrade

If you can't repair a Windows XP system that won't boot and you don't have a recent backup, you can perform an in-place upgrade. Doing so reinstalls the operating system into the same folder, just as if you were upgrading from one version of Windows to another. An in-place upgrade will usually solve most, if not all, Windows boot problems.

Performing a Windows XP in-place upgrade is pretty straightforward. To begin, insert the Windows XP CD into the drive, restart your system, and boot from the CD. Once the initial preparation is complete, you’ll see the Windows XP Setup screen (shown earlier in Figure A). Press [Enter] to launch the Windows XP Setup procedure. In a moment, you’ll see the License Agreement page and will need to press [F8] to acknowledge that you agree. Setup will then search the hard disk looking for a previous installation of Windows XP. When it finds the previous installation, you’ll see a second Windows XP Setup screen, as shown in Figure C

This screen will prompt you to press R to repair the selected installation or to press [Esc] to install a fresh copy of Windows XP. In this case, initiating a repair operation is synonymous with performing an in-place upgrade, so you’ll need to press R. When you do so, Setup will examine the disk drives in the system. It will then begin performing the in-place upgrade.

Keep in mind that after you perform an in-place upgrade or repair installation, you must reinstall all updates to Windows.

how to Protect Windows from a Botched Software Installation

Before you install any new program, you should create a “restore point.” Doing so will enable you to undo any problems or damage caused by the software installation.
1. Simultaneously press the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys on your keyboard, which opens the Windows Task Manager. (However, if your version of Windows is configured differently, then pressing these keys might open a Windows Security box. In that case, simply click the Task Manager button.)

2. Click the Applications tab.
.One of the recent trends in differentiation is loading portable hard drives or flash drives with digital copies of popular movies. Samsung’s latest drive, the 500GB Smasung S2 Portable External Hard Drive, takes this route, trying to cash in on the posthumous Jacko mania by pre-loading its drive with a copy of Michael Jackson’s This Is It and timing the drive’s release with the release of the DVD and Blu-Ray versions of the movie in Europe on February 22nd.
It’s an interesting tactic, but I think hard drive manufacturers are finding that loading a hard drive or flash drive with a popular movie still only really appeals to people who happen to find themselves in the market for both storage and a DVD of that particular film at the same time. In other words, this is a very minor collector’s item that even most Jacko fans will pass up.
Still, the S2 is a solid drive, and features Samsung Auto Backup, SecretZone and SafetyKey software. There’s no price available yet, but expect This Is It to add a few bucks to the price of your standard 500GB hard drive (about $70 last time I checked).

HP's New iPaq Glisten smartphone

HP and T&T just the iPaq Glisten, a GSM Windows Mobile 6.5 Smartphone that uses an AMOLED display. Apple updates its iPod nano music player, which is now available in nine colors. This the the forth generation of the iPod nano. This iPod nano 4G is the thinnest iPod Apple has made.

Instead of the fat body of iPod nano 3G, the 4G is now taller and slimmer and looks more stylish, which is more like the 1G and 2G nano. It is now available in Silver, Black, Purple, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red (PRODUCT RED) and Pink.

Other than having a new look, the iPod nano 4G features the new Genius for music recommendation and accelerometer has been added for auto orientation and the ”
Shake to shuffle” feature.
It went up on Google’s development site Chromium last Monday, two days before Apple unveiled iPad. Google’s User interface designer for Chrome OS, Glen Murphy, blogged about the tablet concept on his personal blog yesterday.

So far, this is just a concept of Chrome OS’s touch interface, but Telegraph claims that Google is already in talks with HTC, the handset manufacturer behind Google branded Nexus One and countless other Android powered handsets.

“Although Chromium is not an official Google website, the concept video has been put together by Glen Murphy, one of Google’s Chrome OS designers. Google is also reportedly in discussions with Taiwanese consumer electronics giant HTC about making a touch-screen tablet computer. HTC already makes many of the mobile phones that run Google’s Android operating system, and designed and built Google’s own-brand handset, the Nexus One.”

Chrome OS was initially meant for the netbooks and this concept could very well mean they could be considering the possibility of scaling their new operating system to touch input based tablet computers as well. Meanwhile, companies like HP are already working on their own tablet computers.

Chrome OS tablet actually sounds like a neat idea, if at all it ever sees the light of the day. Since hardware manufacturers like Dell and HP would very soon be rolling out their own iPad killers, it makes sense for Google to support touch input devices for Chrome OS.

We are focused on present and future - 3D and digital'

ndia, Feb. 5 -- Lionsgate, a $1.47-billion California-headquartered film production group, has signed a three-feature film deal with Crest Animation Studios (India) for stereoscopic 3D animation films. Lionsgate, which has Disney's Pixar, Dreamworks, Bluesky-Fox and Universal Studios as competition, will release its first film, Alpha and Omega, a love story about two mismatched wolves, on October 1. Ken Katsumoto, executive vice president of Lionsgate Family Entertainment, spoke exclusively with Hindustan Times about why his company is so excited about Crest and the tie up with it. On Lionsgate's venture into 3D animation, and the pact with Crest We found that Crest was the most prepared to go into the production of the animation films in stereoscopic 3D. Its management and vision, dedication to quality and willingness to take an equal stake - Crest brought in (US hedge fund) DE Shaw - in the film impressed us. This is the first time Lionsgate has entered into a partnership at this level. On Lionsgate's vision Lionsgate sees itself as a strong, diversified, entrepreneurial and daring company. We are focused on the present and future, which is about 3D and digital. In that sense, Alpha and Omega is perfectly timed. We are so pleased with the way the film has turned out we're going ahead with the second film's production with Crest even before its release. On the cost factor There is, of course, a cost advantage. Other major international animation film production studios spend a lot more on such films. Crest is capable of delivering studio-level quality and we are not going to spend as much. Lionsgate is about prudence meeting high quality. On the pending films with CrestIt's too early to talk about the third film. I'll say this: while Alpha and Omega is based on the Pixar model of classic storytelling that we hope will make people laugh and cry, Norm of the North will be based more on the Dreamworks model, showing a range of depth and capability that we hope will generate wall-to-wall, popcorn-spilling laughter across the world.

Now a friendly neighbourhood 'Robonaut 2' that works alongside humans

People are more likely to believe and use information on a website from an identified source than that coming from a layperson, blog or a homepage, suggests a study.Principal investigator Yifeng Hu, assistant professor of communications, College of New Jersey, Ewing, N.J., and colleague S.
