If you said "default web page", you defnitely need this article. Everyone has a list of websites they visit routinely, and yours could be email, social networking forums, news sites, blogs, or just about anything else that fascinates you. The point is, there are sure to be some sites that you visit regularly for updated information.

Personalized homepages have been around for a while. These are pages that receive feeds and allow you to interact with your entire list of favorite sites, right from your homepage. These pages offer you various services like RSS readers, email clients, games, and a lot more in the form of widgets. Here are three of the best-known startup pages on the Internet today...

iGoogle

If you're the type who practically lives off Google, via Google Docs, Calendar, Gmail, Orkut, Reader, etc. the choice is pretty clear already. iGooogle is the most compatible startup page you will find with these applications. The design is pretty minimalist, but considering that the biggest selling point of Google is its simplicity, I can't cut any points for that. I can, however cut points for blandness.

What I like best is that the Google search bar is permanently integrated into the page header – this not only cuts down your need to look for a good Google search widget but also ensures that your cursor is always present in the search bar by default when the page loads, so you can just type away your query when at iGoogle.

You can have multiple tabs on your homepage, and classify widgets according to category or usefulness. The vast widget library covers almost everything you'll want, and configuring and personalizing widgets is very straightforward. You can add a personal touch by selecting custom headers for your page, many of which change according to the time of the day. You can even create personal widgets, without the need to know any HTML and other programming languages. It's true these widgets tend to be a bit limited in nature, but it's still a great value-add.

The biggest gripe I have with iGoogle is its loading time. Of all the personal homepages I tested, iGoogle took the longest to fire up. It also has a limitation of having only three columns of widgets per page. Considering I use a widescreen monitor at 1680x1050 resolution, I could easily make space for a couple more columns per page.

All said, the page's 'Google compatibility', vast widget library, and personalization options make it a great startup option.

Mobile Sms Advertising Make Huge Money

With the new Do

With the new

Do-Not-Disturb registry being formed in India. A lot of advertisers will be
facing advertsing problems as they would be restricted to make cold calls to
numbers that are registered with the service.

So where does that leave the advertiser??

There are new companies that help out users to make money at a cost of an
advertisement. Here are a few list of companies that are offering this service,
and how they fare among others.

providing advertisers a new way to promote their Products & Services and at the
same time we are Paying our users to receive and read those ads.

Mginger &
mGarlic

No they are not cooking websites even though they may sound like.

Mginger is probably the most popular one of the lot. I am sure all of us at some
point have received a email from Mginger. Mginger and mGarlic work in the same
way. They both give money for viewings ads on mobile phones.

How does it work?

You sign up, Specify your interests (they will send related advertisements),
refer your family and friends and get paid for it. Although you may get charged
while roaming.

How much does it pay? (both Mginger & mGarlic)

each advert that you receive you get 20p

every advert that your friend receives, you get 10p

every advert that your friend’s friend receives you get 5p.

once you accumulate Rs 300 you receive a cheque from them.

Highest earning do far has been Rs 99.40

Mginger I feel is one one of the most popular services as compared to its
competitors. They have over

7 lakh users in just 2 months. Mginger was the one that really kick started
these services. It may have not been the 1st but was surely the 1st to get this
kind of attention.

Mginger

signup

Mginger has also launched something known as Ad ginger which is meant for
advertisers where they (advertisers) can have targeted ads. This is probably the
only service that allows small and big advertisers to take the initial
initiative and allows them for targeted advertising.

Click here to read the interview of Mginger CEO.

Admad.mobi &
m-earn

As crazy as their name may sound admad is pretty cool. Users can earn more
than Minger.

How does it work?

Its some what like Mginger. The only difference is that Admad also pays you for
every sms your friend receives. It also allows users to choose their preferences
at the sign up stage. That helps in more targeted ads. One has to either
referred or has to send a request to the website to signup

M-earn also works on the same lines. But one cannot earn as quickly as admad &
sms2india and others.

How much does it pay?

Apparently they pay more than Mginger.

A user can earn upto Rs. 5160.00

You get -

• 20 paise for each SMS you recieve.

• 15 paise for each SMS your friends recieve.

• 10 paise for each SMS their friends recieve.

• 5 paise for each SMS their friends recieve.

• 1 paisa for each SMS their friends recieve.

There are 83,721 people registered since 29th May with
admad.mobi.

One can earn faster and a higher amount from admad. There were some spamming
issues earlier which now they claim have been resolved by introducing the invite
feature.

Sms2india

I guess it’s the closest to Mginger in terms of service the best part of
this service is that is also allows users to signup on their email. what that
means is that users will get ads on their emails and will get paid for it. I
think its superb, atleast for users who will be getting the money. Users can
easily delete any email unlike an sms where you may just have a look. So
you can earn Rs 3441 for getting spam like emails which most of us anyways get
regularly. Humm very suprising that advertisers still consider this
model when there are bulk emails available for a low cost.

How does it work?

Exactly as Mginger. Add, Subscribe, invite.

How much does it pay?

Ads you receive daily 10

Friends you refer 10

Friends each of them refers 10

Every month, you can earn: Rs. 3441.00

Smsgupshup

a new concept by Webaroo. It allows users to send group messages form their
cell phone s for free for advertisements. There is no limit to the number of
people one can send the sms’s to. This service has to be activated form the
mobile phone. Infact all the conservations are also saved on the website which
can be retrieved at any point in time.

How does it work?

Create a Group – signup from your mobile phone

Invite friends – add your friends to the group

Start sending messages to your group for free.

How much does it pay ?

One does not earn any money but can send group sms for free at the cost of
advertisements.

The problem out here is that the ads cannot be targeted as accurately as Mginger,
sms2india & admadmobi. Advertisers can only consider act considering the group
name eg. Cricket or the fact that most of the people using this service must be
below the age of 30. other services provide more flexibility for advertisers.

Way2sms &
160by2.com

Using 160by2 & Way2sms, you can send free sms to any mobile number in India,

As the name suggests 160by2, you can send a sms only upto 80
characters long. After which there will be an advertisement attached
which will be upto 80 characters long.

Way2sms allows 92 characters.

Again this does not pay you anything but saves you the cost of
sending a national message.

What I really like about this service is that its simple, easy to use, easy
to follow and most of all its Free.

You Mint -

My personal favourite. It works on the same lines as Mginger sms2india, admad.
But they offer more services than the above.

The basic service includes signup invite and earn.

How much does it pay??

Much like Mginger and m-earn

You will receive 20p per SMS they send you.

You will receive 10p per SMS they send your direct referrals.

You will receive 5p per SMS they send your referrals’
referrals.

Hows it different??

Users can make their own content and sell it on the network. Make your own
wallpapers, ringtones etc that can be purchased by your friends or others on the
network. Very different and innovative. It invites users to do more than just
receive ads. Advertisers will surely like this service as there is an added
feature for users which no one else provides.

Conclusion –

Advertisers will surely look at market as this seems to be an apt solution
for the problem created by Trai.

Both users and advertisers benefit in this method. Users earn money and get ads
at their rime and convenience and also of their choice. advertisers can send
targeted ads to their customers and also provide discounts on their phones that
will create the initial pull for them.

The problem I foresee could be that users may not take it so well, I mean you
can buy a cheap Rs2000 phone and subscribe to all the above services leave the
phone at home and earn about Rs4000 easily after some time. And if you are good
then you can even earn upto Rs 10,000 per month or may be even more. So in your
1st month you recover your mobile money and it later acts as a regular income.
What all this does is decrease the value of the advertiser and he may not really
be even reaching out to his potential user. But I guess for those who may be
interested in getting advertisements of their choice its great.

But from a service providers point of view, they have to give users something
more than just money. There needs to be a better hook than just money. Look at
youmint they are allowing users to interact and share and even sell their own
content with other on the network.

But surely at this point I feel advertisers will do anything and go all out
to reach their users.

Read SMS and Earn Money In India, Get Paid to Read SMS Ads

1. A thumb drive can store up to 2 GB of data, which is much less compared to the portable drives. Also, carrying a portable drive is not a problem at all, given its sleek and compact design.

The potential of a portable drive to store high quantity (20, 40, 60, 80, 120 GB) of data is also an advantage.

The portable storage drives available in the market today are plug and play devices. One does not need anything else to run it. Just plug the device to a PC/notebook via a USB cable and you are on. The devices are USB 1.0 and 2.0 compatible.

It is also very easy to copy files from a PC/notebook to a portable storage device. Just copy the files from the former and paste it in the device. You can also keep the device attached to the PC and run files from it.

Some of the popular brand portable storage devices available in the market include LaCie, Iomega, Fujitsu, and SeaGate among

Google Seeks World of Instant Translations

In Google Inc.'s vision of the future, people will be able to translate documents instantly into the world's main languages, with machine logic, not expert linguists, leading the way.

Google's approach, called statistical machine translation, differs from past efforts in that it forgoes language experts who program grammatical rules and dictionaries into computers. Instead, they feed documents humans have already translated into two languages and then rely on computers to discern patterns for future translations. While the quality is not perfect, it is an improvement on previous efforts at machine translation, said Franz Och, 35, a German who heads Google's translation effort at its Mountain View headquarters south of San Francisco. "Some people that are in machine translations for a long time and then see our Arabic-English output, then they say, that's amazing, that's a breakthrough," said Och. "And then other people who have never seen what machine translation was ... they read through the sentence and they say, the first mistake here in line five—it doesn't seem to work because there is a mistake there."

But for some tasks, a mostly correct translation may be good enough. Speaking over lunch this week in a Google cafeteria famed for offering free, healthy food, Och showed a translation of an Arabic Web news site into easily digestible English. Two Google workers speaking Russian at a nearby table said, however, that a translation of a news site from English into their native tongue was understandable but a bit awkward.

Och, who speaks German, English and some Italian, feeds hundreds of millions of words from parallel texts such as Arabic and English into the computer, using United Nations and European Union documents as key sources. Languages without considerable translated texts, such as some African languages, face greater obstacles. "The more data we feed into the system, the better it gets," said Och, who moved to the United States from Germany in 2002. The program applies statistical analysis, an approach he hopes will avoid diplomatic faux pas, such as when Russian leader Vladimir Putin's translator miffed then German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder by calling him the German "Fuehrer." The word is verboten in that context because of its association with Adolf Hitler. "I would hope that the language model would say, well, Fuehrer Gerhard Schroeder is... very rare but Bundeskanzler Gerhard Schroeder is probably 100 times more frequent than Fuehrer and then it would make the right decision," Och said.

The center of Google's effort looks surprisingly modest. Och shares a spartan office with two others on his team, with little clutter other than a shelf of linguistic books above his desk. That's because the muscle work is performed by machines. So far, Google is offering its own statistical machine translations of Arabic, Chinese and Russian to and from English at http://www.google.com/language_tools. Third-party software gives access on the site to German and other languages, Och said. "So far, the focus is let's make it really, really good," Och said. "As part of a general Google philosophy, once it's really useful and it has impact, then there will be found ways how to make money out of it. "Miles Osborne, a professor at the University of Edinburgh, who spent a sabbatical last year working on the Google project, praises Google's effort but sees limitations."The best systems (e.g. Google) can be very good indeed for language pairs such as Arabic-English," he said. But he added software will not overtake humans in expert translations as it has in playing chess; software should be used for understanding rather than polishing documents. "It may also be useful when deciding whether to pay a human to do a good job: you could imagine looking at Japanese patent documents and seeing if they are relevant, for example," he said.

Google chairman Eric Schmidt also sees broad political consequences of a world with easy translations."What happens when we have 100 languages in simultaneous translation? Google and other companies are working on statistical machine translation so that we can on demand translate everything all the time," he told a conference earlier this year."Many, many societies have operated in language-defined communities where they really don't understand and are not particularly sympathetic to other peoples' views because of the barrier of language. We're about to have that breakthrough and it is a huge thing."

YouTube 2007 Award Goes to...

Google's video sharing site,YouTube, has announced the winners of the 2007 YouTube Video Awards for individuals who were on the forefront of the most creative and popular original content in 2006.

The Award for the 'Most Creative' YouTube video went to Chicago-born band OK Go, whose famous treadmill video also won a Grammy for Best Short-Form Music Video. Kiwi is the number one most watched Film and Animation video on YouTube with more than six million views.Jamie Byrne, head of product marketing for YouTube said, "2006 was a groundbreaking year for YouTube, user-generated content, and entertaining online videos. With this in mind, we established the YouTube Video awards to recognize the ingenuity and achievements of our community. These individuals put the first stitches in the fabric of the YouTube community. Instead of seeing a way to share videos they saw an opportunity for worldwide visibility and through their success have changed the landscape of how a star is defined."

Nokia Sees India as 2nd Biggest Market

Nokia expects India to become its second-largest market by volume by 2010, or even sooner, the world's top cellphone maker said on Monday.

India is currently the third-largest market for Nokia in terms of volume. It had shipped 25 million handsets as of December 2006 from its factory near Chennai in southern India, with 80 percent of the production sold in the domestic market. Nokia, which employed 3,800 people at the facility against a projected 2,000, said it was expanding floor space to 53,000 sq metres from 30,000 sq metres as part of a planned $150 million investment.

The Nokia Telecom Park in Sriperumbudur, which was inaugurated in March 2006, will also house seven component makers who are expected to commence operations by mid-2007, it said in a statement. The facility has the potential to employ 20,000 people by 2008, when it is fully operational, it said. The component makers are Salcomp, Aspocomp, Foxconn, Perlos, Laird, Jabil Circuit and Wintek.

YouTube to Present Video Awards

Brace yourself, Oscar. Step aside, MTV. The online video-sharing Web site YouTube will present awards for best user-generated videos of 2006.

Starting today, YouTube members can browse through videos in seven genres at http://www.youtube.com/YTAwards and rank their favorite short-form videos. Polling closes on Friday. Trophies will be handed out on March 26. "If you think of 2006, it was really a pioneering year for online video and for user-generated content," said Jamie Byrne, head of YouTube product marketing. Google Inc. acquired YouTube for $1.65 billion last year. Categories include most creative or inspirational, best series, comedy, music or commentary. A seventh category, "most adorable video ever"—seeks to recognize the proliferation of "so cute it hurts" sleeping cat or dog videos, Byrne said.

Nominated programs include videos from 80-something English pensioner Geriatric 1927, up-and-coming folk singer Terra Naomi, Star Trek parody Chad Vader, actress-turned-teenager Lonely Girl 15, and comic commentator LisaNova (Lisa Donovan), who recently landed a spot as a cast member on Fox TV show MadTV. The nominees can create new videos over the next five days to promote themselves on YouTube. They can also plead for votes or make acceptance speeches. One category missing from the YouTube awards is 'Best Professionally Produced Copyrighted Video'.

Last week, Viacom Inc., owner of assets including MTV, Comedy Central and Paramount Pictures movie studio, sued YouTube and parent Google for more than $1 billion. The lawsuit alleges YouTube's surging popularity last year was due in part to massive copyright infringement by fans of Viacom shows like "The Colbert Report" and "South Park," who post segments of the TV shows online for other fans to watch. In a sense, the nature of online voting makes YouTube's ceremony anachronistic. YouTube already relies on a ratings system to track the viewing habits of its fans and constantly promotes the most popular videos on its site.

MS Unveils New Windows Live Mobile Services

Microsoft has announced three new Windows Live mobile services, for search and communications, at the 3GSM World Congress, 2007. Currently available only in the US and UK, the products are designed to provide customers with advanced local search and mapping capabilities on their mobile devices. Microsoft also introduced Windows Live for Windows Mobile, a set of Windows Live services including e-mail, instant messaging and search, uniquely designed to work with Windows Mobile powered devices.

Microsoft has announced that Live Search is now available as a software client application on Windows Mobile and Java devices. These Live Search applications claim to represent the latest innovation in mobile search from Microsoft, and are aimed at providing customers with fast, easy access to local listings and maps.

New features include a category-based search, which aims to eliminate the need to type text into the phone, providing an option to map all results, so several listings appear on the same map, with aerial imagery and local traffic status in selected U.S. cities. Live Search for Windows Mobile offers additional new capabilities including satellite imagery, GPS integration and the ability to send search results to a friend.

Steve Berkowitz, senior vice president of the Online Services Group at Microsoft said, "People want to stay connected and informed wherever they are, and our aim is to deliver easy-to-use, familiar mobile services that keep people connected to the people and information they care about. Live Search for mobile and Windows Live for Windows Mobile are the latest examples of our commitment to enhancing the mobile search and services experience for our customers, and helping mobile operators, OEMs and advertising partners access new revenues and differentiate their products in this competitive mobile market."

Users may download Live Search for Windows Mobile and Live Search for Java applications at http://mobile.search.live.com. Also, users may download the Live Search client, directly to their mobile phone at http://wls.live.com.

Windows Live for Windows Mobile aimed at providing users with a rich set of Windows Live services, including Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Messenger, Live Search and Windows Live Spaces, designed to work with Windows Mobile software.

Install the Memory- STEP 7 of 21 in the Build Your Own Computer Series

You should now install your memory modules. You need to make sure you have the right kind of memory for your motherboard, but you should have taken care of this already.

On older machines, there are a few installation guidelines to follow. The memory banks will be outlined in your manual. On most machines you will find SD ram memory modules(168)pin, DDR double data rate memory modules (184)pin or DDR2 double data rate memory modules (240)pin.

Most systems use 168-pin SDRAM or memory of newer formats such as DDR/DDDR2. On these systems, memory can be installed in just about any combination and can even be installed stand alone. So, this is the good news for those of you using modern technology. The only memory placement you will need to concern yourself with is single or dual mode. Newer motherboards have four slots for memory. The fist two slots are referred to as slots A and the second two slots B. If you plan to install two sticks of memory the best configuration would be one stick in slot A and one stick in slot B. If you get lost refer to your owner’s manual. The manufacturers are great about visual guides to assist.

Let's get on with it:

1. Decide which slots you are going to use and orient the memory module over it. The module will be keyed in such a way that it will only go in the correct way. So, find the small notch or notches in the memory slot and align the module so that that notch will be inserted into the gap in the module itself. Easy.

2. Install the Module. With SD (168-pin), you need to look for two notches. The force need to insert this module is minor. DO NOT FORCE IT. If it doesn't slide in with minimal effort then back away and try again. You can compare it to the force of turning your cars ignition. Lock the module in place. Obviously, memory doesn’t just sit in the motherboard. When it is module is inserted correctly, you should see the little plastic or metal clips snap into place, thereby holding the module in place.

3. Done. Now just repeat these steps for each of your memory modules. When you are done, double-check your work. Shinning a flashlight on to your work area may also help with verifying memory module alignment.

Chuck Lunsford is an owner and developer of CCSPartner.com. Degraded image quality is often the result, with a loss of resolution, and even dropped frames. Professional quality results require a professional quality machine, but the price for one of these can be outrageous.

Don’t be discouraged. If you’re smart enough to make a movie, then you’re smart enough to build your own computer to edit it on, and save as much as $700 to $1000 by doing so.

Usually when you build a computer, you design it around the CPU. This one time, I’ll ask you to take a different path. Since what you are going to do is edit video on a machine dedicated to that purpose alone, I want you to first select the editing software package you want to use and work from there.

Let’s say the program you prefer is Premiere Pro. Essentially what you’ll be aiming to create is a computer that will run Premiere better than any other machine out there. The first step to insure this is to get a capture card dedicated to this software.

By “dedicated”, I mean a card whose manufacturer designed it to work specifically with Premiere Pro, one example being the Matrox cards. Often these items will be bundled together, software and card, at a great savings in price. Sometimes, other programs will be thrown in with the bundle, virtually for nothing. They often include a basic 3-D animation program, sound effects, and similar items.

With your software/capture card selection made, you’re now ready to return to a more traditional method of parts selection. Which CPU is right for you is your next decision.

Of course, the software you picked will have a minimum recommended processor, but I rather doubt when buying a top quality editing program that you’d want to hamstring it with a slow CPU. Things like rendering effects require your computer to do some heavy duty number crunching. The faster your chip, the quicker the job gets done.

This is one situation where I can recommend a dual core processor, and here’s why: let’s say you’re using a program like Cinelook to make a video clip look like film. Depending on the size of the clip, that can tie up your computer for a long time. But what if you have a 3-D animation, or some other item you need to get done?

With a single core processor, I’d say you’d just have to wait. But with a dual core, it’s almost as if you have two computers in one case. You can go ahead with your 3-D project, while your video-to-Cinelook clip gets done at the same time.

To really take advantage of this, you’ll need a motherboard with a fast bus. Its processor socket will have to match the CPU you’ve selected, such as a 775, a 939, or whatever chip type you picked. You’ll also have to accommodate the slot your capture card requires. Most of them still use PCI, but some are coming out in the new PCI Express type.

When buying a motherboard, you’ll find the very newest and latest models on the market are usually expensive. Boards with many of the same features that came out only a few months before can be found that sell for a fraction of the price. Higher price doesn’t equate to better quality. There are bargains to be found if you shop around.

Something special I’d like you to consider is using a pair of hard drives. Have one drive for doing captures and editing, and use the other for storage of clips, stills, and all the other things you’ll put in your movie.

In the past, we’d have more than one hard drive because drives were limited in size. Now, one disk can hold what ten did only a few years ago. It would seem that one drive would be plenty.

Yet, there is a good reason for having two drives. The more stuff you crowd onto one drive the slower it gets. If you use your main drive for only captures and editing it stays lean and fast. Your storage drive not only holds the clips you captured, but each day’s finished work as well.

If all of this is beginning to sound complex, it really isn’t. You can build one of these in an afternoon, if you plan your machine carefully, and have a good how-to book guiding you. As I have told many people “There are only eleven major parts in a computer. All of them either snap together, or plug in. If you can connect just eleven items, then you can build a computer.”

Michael Quarles is the author of the book "Building a PC for Beginners". Here are most common ways to be at risk of adware, spyware, theft, spam, scams and more.

Download attachments which are included in email messages that are not from people you personally know. Even if you only download them or open them cause you are interested to see what's inside can lead to adware, spyware and related problems.

Downloading of cracks from illegal websites, forums or groups. Cracks install adware or spyware when they are downloaded. Registering on websites to be able to download cracks is even worse.

Downloading of music from unknown sources. First get advice by visiting yahoo answers. Find out where people download music and trust big companies such as Google and Yahoo. When you are online, you can see anything but in order to use something you need permission. You can even break the law in certain cases.

Send bulk email in any way. That means you send messages to people who did not request your messages or they don't know you personally.

Join porn websites that need your credit card information for a free trial. You cannot trust all porn websites. Porn websites are dangerous cause they contain most adware, spyware and other bad objects.

Post your photo online and include it anywhere you wish with your physical email address or phone number. Everything online can be collected by so called spammers that want to make money.

Do you need popup blockers?

Nowadays, browsers such as Mozilla Firefox have popup blockers included. You should also make well use of this extra extension. You can turn it on from the Tools or Settings option in your browser.

Mozilla Firefox popup blocker blocks most of the popups on websites. Though if a websites contains popups that cannot be closed you can add that website to the block list so the popup blocker automatically blocks its popups. You need to go to your browser settings to edit certain functions.

You can then allow certain websites to open popups if you need to. The term popups refer to windows that open without your permission. These can be big or small in size and usually contain either advertisements.

You should ignore these false claims you see on websites. Most often the software that you download also contain adware, spyware and other infections. That is also another reason why it is best to ignore these warning signs in the form of popups. Some popups try to make you believe you are a winner of a competition or contest or anything else.

There are different versions of these popups. Some want you to call them so they can spam you, others want to steal money from you after you call them. Your popup blocker usually detects and blocks these message. They are also very compelling messages but you should ignore them.

Some people install Memory boosters, which are software that is suppose to speed your memory for faster performance. A similar software is the Internet speed booster. There are many of these special software all different but have similar functions.

They might work, but we tested them and results of improvement were not seen. Further more these work on the background and and take up resources. Doing so the performance and speed of the PC will decrease instead of improve. These software don't seem to do what they claim.

To improve speed of your Internet, you can upgrade to a better ISP, Internet service provider. That way you see real changes. Do a bit of research to find an ISP that allows faster downloading and uploading. To improve the speed of your memory you can do the most common methods which are, remove unwanted files, folders, clean PC and bad registry values. Here we recommend you use a registry cleaner for such purposes.

The Eusing registry cleaner (eusing.com) does all that and more. That is the best way to boost the memory of your PC and overall performance.

Most often you are researching online and you see warning signs in the form of popups. These all warn you or even worse try to make you believe you have infections on your PC. These are all false claims by certain companies that want you to download their own software.

That is some important information that will ensure your security, privacy and computer is less in danger. Following that advice you will find less troublemakers online.

Copy Right All Rights Reserved

Karl sells one of the best spyware cleaner tools online, No Adware 4.0 software. But people never stop from wanting to get more... Can you get more? Do you have hundreds or thousands of digital photos which occupy a noticeable part of your hard-drive or a pile of CDs? Did you know that you can re-use JPEG and save some storage space on the pictures? Read on to know how.

Idea is very simple. Every JPEG file has a certain parameter, quality. The greater is quality, the better is picture, the large is JPEG file size. By default, digital cameras usually store high-quality JPEG files. So, the size of the file is large, but quality is good. You can use that to have good-quality photo prints. But if you are just going to watch photos on the screen of the computer - much less JPEG quality is sufficient. Also you might not need all 4 or 6 megapixels (which does not fit the screen and in fact is resized when you are watching photos). So, we are going to do 2 things: resize photos (smaller photos take less space) and reduce JPEG quality parameter (this gives some hardly noticeable quality deterioration).

Any decent picture editing program can do this. There is a lightweight and quite powerful viewer IrfanView (it is free on www.irfanview.com), which we will use. Let's run a particular example. I pick a photo from my 4 mp camera. It has dimensions 2304 x 1728 and occupies 1,863,654 bytes. Now I open it in IrfanView, choose Image > Resize/Resample > Half > OK. The photo is resized now and has dimensions 1152 x 864. Let's save it with a smaller JPEG quality. Go to File > Save as ..., choose JPEG file type and show option dialog. In options let's pick quality = 70. (You can experiment with it, of cause, and try another value.) OK. It is saved. The size of new file is 134,525 bytes. Viewing any of two files full screen one cannot see any difference. But the new file size is only about 7% of the original. That's what you can do. Put 10 times more pictures into the same space! Actual savings may vary on the type of pictures - walls will occupy less than trees and faces...

You don't have to do all these manipulations manually for each file - there is a batch processing feature in IrfanView. So you can process a directory of files with several clicks. Do it like this: File > Batch Conversion/Rename. Add the files you want to compress to the list on the left, choose some output directory. Make sure that JPEG is output file type. Button "options" will allow you to choose output quality, e.g. 70. Button "advanced options" will bring up a menu where you can set resizing of the images, for example 50% of the original. That's all the recipe. Good luck!

JPEG, compression, archiving, ... - ever wondered how does it work? Andrew Spivak makes it clear at JPEG & stuff - explained, where you can also find practical tips and advices.

CPU Cooling Options For Your PC

CPU Cooling Alternative: H2O

Powerful and fast CPUs have a nasty tendency of giving off a lot of heat. Cooling down your CPU is vital to your processor’s health and stability. When you push a CPU beyond its stock speed settings—overclocking—cooling it down becomes even more paramount; you don’t want your new expensive CPU to go up in flames.

Conventional air cooling techniques can only provide so much cooling comfort for your processor. Once you’ve hit the limit with air cooling techniques, a more aggressive cooling measure needs to be considered: water cooling.

When it comes to heat dissipation, air cooling techniques have a limit. As the speed of your CPU increases, the more heat it’s bound to give off. The more heat you want to move away from your CPU, the more surface area you need for a heatsink. Air cooling is not enough. Water is an excellent medium for transporting heat away from its source. Water is, hands down, the superior cooling technique.

What do I need for a Water Cooling setup?
The cooling system found in your car is tantamount to what you’ll need for a cooling system in your computer: a radiator, pump, heat exchanger and fan. You’ll see more effective cooling results the larger your radiator is and the more water you’re able to get flowing through your PC.

You should have a battle plan before you purchase separate components for your water cooling system. You need to make sure that all the connections fit. You can take care of everything in one fell swoop by purchasing a water cooling kit in lieu of building it yourself from scratch.

What are some Important Pump Factors?
An essential factor when it comes to cooling pumps is their ability to lift water to a designated height. A pump is useless to your cooling setup if it cannot elevate water over 1 foot when it’s confined inside a case where the required pumping distance is 2 feet. A good rule of thumb to follow is this: a pump capable of lifting water to a height of 3 feet will probably suffice for any cooling needs.

Essential Water Block factors to consider:
Most water blocks are designed to fit custom settings. Be aware of how they’ll mount in your configuration. Check to make sure that your hoses will fit nicely with your other components. A copper water block will be more effective at conducting heat than its aluminum counterpart.

Radiator Guidelines to follow:

Generally, the bigger your radiator, the more cooling clout your computer will have. Decide where you want to mount your radiator; size becomes an essential factor if you plan to mount your radiator inside your case. Remember that for internal mounting, a radiator 5x7 or bigger becomes harder to comfortably mount.

Learn more about sound cards on our site. You simply have to know what you want to use it for. Laptops comes in so many brands, shapes and sizes that trying to find the machine just right for you can be quite an undertaking, especially with the price tags they come with.

The first step to cut through the confusion is to establish what your priorities are. What matters more to you, power or portability? To answer that question, think about how you intend to use your new laptop. Will it serve as your primary computer, handling everything from storing photo files and burning CDs to housing that novel you've been working on? In that case, you want power. Which may mean a little more heft. Or do you seek a secondary computer for running spreadsheets on the go? Then featherweight portability wins out over bells and whistles.

Once you've determined where you fall on the needs curve, between portability and power, the next step is selecting the machine that best accommodates you. I checked the shops for the latest laptops to find the best bets for every kind of user.

Desktop Replacement

If you want your primary computer to be a laptop, and you want one that behaves like a high-performance desktop, then you can't beat the ultra-powerful l.7GHz Toshiba Satellite 5105-S607. This machine comes with an internal DVD/CD-RW combo drive, so you can watch movies on its 15-inch screen, listen to music through its speakers and even burn your own CDs. If you have a digital camera or MP3 player, you'll love the Satellite's postage-stamp-size Secure Digital and slightly larger Smart Media slots, which house memory cards to store photos or music files, and eliminate the need for connecting wires from your device to the computer. Plus, common functions such as a calculator and commands for opening and closing programs are conveniently built into the unit's touch pad, meaning that you don't have to stop the movie you're watching on the screen to balance your checkbook. With all that power and functionality, the 7-pound Satellite lasts about an hour and a half unplugged.

Portable Power

Plan to take your laptop on the occasional trip, but still intend it to be your primary computer? Then you'll want more battery life and portability than the Toshiba offers, and without sacrificing much power. For users who want the best of both worlds, we recommend the 5.4-pound Apple Power Book G4- The PowerBook is right on par with its Windows-based competition when it comes to power and perks, such as its combo DVD/CD-RW drive. However, it blows everybody else away on battery life. In our tesfs, it held strong for nearly six hours. And its titanium exterior is easy on the eyes, as is, its huge 15.2-inch screen. For Windows loyalists, the Fujitsu Life Book S Series is the way to go in this category. The reasonably priced Fujitsu is packed with plenty of great features, including a combo drive . But you won't pay for power in extra weight or inches: The 4.4-pound Fujitsu boasts a crisp picture on its respectable 13.3-inch screen, and it gives you three hours of battery life.

Light Traveler

For road warriors who need a second computer they can haul anywhere, i recommend Dell's Latitude X200. The 8-pounds Latitude has an excellent 12.1-inch screen and an 800MHz processor. But what distinguishes the Latitude is its optional docking station, which comes at an extra cost. This detachable unit couches the bottom of the laptop and houses both DVD/CD-RW and 3.5-inch floppy drives, thus surpassing the limitations of most ultra light units.

For those who dare to go even smaller, the 2.5-pound Compaq Evo N200, literally the size of a notebook, is the lightest laptop we tested. Understand that a computer this diminutive will take some getting used to. The keyboard is 10 per cent smaller than the standard size. But if you're willing to make the adjustment for the sheer portability of a machine this tiny, then you'll be happy with the sharp picture on the N2000's 10.4-inch screen, as well as its nicely designed keyboard, which makes typing easier than on a number of other ultra smalls we tested. Another plus: The N2000's attachable extra battery adds four hours to its basic 60- to 90- minute battery life.

Ultimately, the choice of laptop you purchase is yours and the use you intend to put the laptop to also plays a crucial role in what design you go for. Nevertheless, i suggest that you do not purchase a laptop just for the sake of getting one. It is more sensible to consider its usefulness.

Visit Here For Desktops, Laptops, PDA'S, Wi-Fi, Digital Cameras, and More. http://leckywirelesssolutions.blogspot.com

Fropper.com Announces 'Groups' Feature

Fropper.com, has launched the 'Groups' feature, where users are free to start a group about anything.

Keeping in mind the misuse of freedom online, the groups made on Fropper.com are authenticated in the sense that no group can go live immediately. The store, already has a predecessor at Atria mall, Mumbai, which houses the entire catalog of Apple products, including accessories.

Rupesh Pandey, Managing Director, RSG Retails said that the store will be a hub for digital awareness—with workshops for housewives, children and students—slated to begin soon. Also, the concept of iLife will be incorporated in the awareness campaign, which will allow visitors to 'experience' Apple products such as iphoto, iTunes, iMovie, iDVD, Garage Band and iWeb. He added, "There is a significant increase in demand for digital devices and this has brought about a need to manage, organize and share media content in a better manner. The Mac as a digital hub is able to integrate all photo, video and music files with the iLife applications, and most importantly, these applications work seamlessly with each other."

The Imagine store at Inorbit also has a built in seminar room for customers to attend basic or advanced Mac OS X training and iLife workshops. Pandey said that the store does plan to expand within Mumbai as well as in malls in other cities, but will announce them once the plans are finalized.

Search for Music by Singing

Melodis Corporation, developer of search and sound recognition technologies, has announced the launch of MARS Search, which allows users to search for music by singing, whistling or humming a few bars of a song to identify the track. This Multimodal Adaptive Recognition System (MARS) Search will be showcased on www.midomi.com, a free online community for music lovers.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeI9FPC-q_9M8q9SMaOfpj810dUAO__KyHoHIcBm5JUnLFVYkuUmXbQWTfbAAEzs3G6V2orvehGDKyB3m3TmEMnvBkUkbhAp-l5zY2UFvS5J9wJLeBrDDDyoZ95-uyDGOsW6DqdK6Pp2la/s320/img_3666_midomi_450x360.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5024668557179666066" />

midomi.com aims to create the world's most comprehensive database of searchable music based on user contribution.

"With midomi.com we have created one of the most entertaining search engines on the web," said Keyvan Mohajer, CEO, Melodis Corporation. "Users of midomi.com will be able to both search our extensive database as well as help grow it; when a user tags (sings and saves) their favorite songs, the submissions immediately become part of the searchable MARS universe."

The MARS Search extracts a variety of features from the tune including speech, pitch, tempo, and even the location of pauses. It analyzes each element independently and adapts to the stronger components. For instance, it takes speech content into account if the user sings the lyrics and ignores speech content if the user hums or whistles the song. With its next generation search tools, MARS Search is the first search engine that can match human voice to human voice by analyzing these multiple features.

"We are very excited to introduce this new technology into the market. It fills a necessary search void while allowing users to listen to thousands of songs," said Keyvan Mohajer. "MARS Search is the next step in adaptive sound recognition technology and provides an easier way to find the music you love. MARS Search will continue to grow in scale and capabilities with future applications."

At midomi.com users can create their own profile, sing their favorite songs, share them and get discovered by other midomi users, all while contributing to the music database. The networking features on midomi.com provide a system to rate the performances of other users, view their photos, and send them messages. midomi.com also offers users the opportunity to buy original music, concert tickets and more.
