Nokia 5730 Xpress Music with Qwerty

Mobile-Review has posted a review of the not yet launched Nokia 5730 Xpress Music Phone which has Qwerty Keypad. The phone is supposed to be a twin of the Nokia E75 and features GPS, Wi-Fi, 3.5 mm jack, 3.2 Mega Pixel Cam with Carl Zeiss Optics. Contrary to what other sites are reporting, the Phone does NOT have a screen size of 2 inches as Eldar Murtazin has posted the following before the start of the review.

Editor’s note. This is not a complete review, but rather our first impressions of this device. In fact, we played around with one of the first prototypes, and this fact must be factored in as far as the phone’s build quality and software department are concerned – many features are still missing, even though we are going to refer to some of them throughout this review. Also, you won’t find any data on the 5730 XpressMusic’s size or display simply because this information is not all that relevant at this moment.

Back Side

The phone comes with a new feature called Say & Play, which allows the user to just say a name of artist, song, album or playlist and the phone will play it. The Screen Size is most likely to be 2.4 inches with QVGA (240 x 320) resolution. The phone also has FM Radio, 3G, 128 MB Ram and 8 GB microSD card bundled. It's rumored to hit the shelves in April with a price tag of around 220 Euros.

Front Side

Qwerty Keypad

Qwerty Keypad

Left Side

Top Side

Right Side

Volume Keys

Home Screen

Radio

GPS

Connections

Say & This will be the third 8 Mega Pixel shooter from Samsung after the i8510 Innov8 and the M8800 Pixon. The new phone is named S8300 and is a slider. The phone is only 12.8 mm thick and has a large OLED Screen sporting a Wide QVGA resolution of 240 x 400 pixels. Further more the Screen is also a Touch Screen so you can use your finger or stylus to operate the phone. This also makes it the second 8 Mega Pixel Touch Screen Phone of Samsung. It also has Bluetooth 2.1, FM Radio, MicroSD slot, GPS, HSPDA, DivX support, TouchQiz interface and lastly the all important 8 Mega Pixel Cam. As it's a slider from Samsung, build quality will be decent and the slider will also be good as Samsung generally makes great slider phones.

The only things missing in this slider are the Wi-Fi connection and a Xenon Flash, which can be beneficial in Night Shooting. The phone just features a LED Flash. Looking at it from the back, the camera reminds of the Samsung G600 and the Samsung u900 Soul which had a similar setup. It should be officially announced in 2009 (only 2 days are left in 2008 ) and available by March 2009. The most distinguishing feature of N97 is that it has a physical Qwerty keypad to help in messaging and mailing. Another touted feature is the 35 degree kickstand that helps in watching videos but can be bothersome if you drop the phone.

Looking at the spces, it has a 5 Mega Pixel Camera with Carl Zeiss Optics, 32 GB Flash Storage, a huge 3.5 inch screen with a decent (by HTC Touch HD's standards) resolution of 640 x 360, Wi-fi, GPS, FM Transmitter, 3.5 mm jack and a digital compass too. The styling is different than the N81/N96/N85 clones we saw from Nokia and we welcome that. Apart from the huge storage and the huge screen there's not much in it to differentiate it from it's other N-Series Brothers and Sisters like N85 & N96. The N97 is basically a Qwerty version of Nokia 5800 with double the storage of N96 and having all the features of N85. The N97 also supports widgets on it's home screen. The N97 also has a social feature which Nokia calls "So-Lo" which allows your friends to update their location and status.

Nokia seems to have learnt from it's mistake of N95 and N96 & has equipped the N97 with a 1500 mAh battery which should be adequate for a phone of it's size. The phone comes with a Digital Compass and Nokia Maps 3.0. The N97 is expected to begin shipping in the first half of 2009 at an estimated retail price of EUR 550 before taxes or subsidies. Nokia is definitely impressed to make the N97 it's Flagship of 2009. How much of a fight will it give to Sony Ericcsion Xperia X1 and a possible HTC Touch HD Pro is to be seen.

Detailed Specs of Nokia N97 a couple times, Samsung i7110 has been officially announced a few hours back. The i7110 is the Nokia N79 rival from Samsung and has better specs than it's rival. The i7110 also runs on the S60 3rd Edition FP2 like the N79. The i7110 is very slim in size with a thickness of just 12.9 mm. Also it has a OLED 2.6 inch QVGA Screen as compared to the 2.4 inch screen of N79. The Nokia N85 has a similar 2.6 inch AMOLED screen in it. It has an 8-way Optical Trackpad like the Samsung i900 Omnia which allows the user to move the cursor just like a mouse.

Coming to specs, the i7110 has in addition to the screen, a 5 Mega Pixel Camera with dual LED flash. It also has geotagging, face, smile and blink detection. Also it has Wi-fi(with DLNA certification) for surfing as well as GPS for navigation. Samsung also bundles it's Samsung Navigator application which has maps of 10 European cities in it including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Helsinki, London, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Paris, and Rome. However you can't use the Nokia Maps like you do in Nokia Mobile Phones as it's incompatible with Samsung S60 phones (atleast till now).

The i7110 can also double up as camcorder with impressive VGA recording capability and support for high speed recording also. It also comes with DNSe 2.0 Engine, like the Samsung Innov8. Among other things it also has a FM Transmitter which allows transmitting any playing song to a nearby FM receiver. The FM transmitter can also be switched on to receive voice navigation guide via car speakers when using GPS. It also supports DivX playback natively, without any need for conversion. It also boasts of TV-out so you can view your videos & photos on your TV.

It comes with a MicroSD Card slot with support for SDHC (SD High Capacity) Cards. It comes bundled with FIFA 2008 & Asphalt Games, however Nokia's N-Gage can't run on it. The only thing missing in it are a Camera Lens Cover, Xenon Flash & a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The Samsung i7110 should be available in Europe just in time for the Christmas holidays. It will start shipping first in Russia from November 2008 with other markets following soon.

Detailed Specs of Samsung i7110 :

5 Mega Pixel Auto Focus Camera with Dual LED Flash

VGA (640 x 480) 30 FPS & QVGA (240 x 320) 120 FPS Video Capture

Face recognition with smile detection and blink detection & GPS geotagging

2.6 inch QVGA OLED Screen with resolution of 240 x 320 pixels

Accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate

DivX playback

DNSe Engine 2.0

3G, HSDPA, Wi-fi & GPS

Quad Band GSM

Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP

DivX/H.263/H.264/WMV/MP4 player

MP3/eAAC+/WMA/AMR/RealAudio player

FM Radio with RDS

FM transmitter

Micro SD card slot

Optical trackpad

FIFA 2008, Asphalt Games

Symbian OS v9.3, Series 60 rel. 3.2 FP2

1200 mAh Battery

118 x 52 x 12.9 mm dimensions & 125 gm weight

Source : Samsung

LG launch Prada II KF 900

LG today announced the successor of the ever popular Prada phone which had leaked earlier. Officially called KF 900, the Prada II bumps up the specs of the original Prada phone to 5 Mega Pixel Camera, Wi-fi, 3G, HSDPA & Qwerty Keypad. The 5 megapixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach certified lens comes to replace the modest 2 megapixel shooter of the original Prada phone. With 3G & HSDPA present, users can use to surf on the go. The handset has become thicker with a thickness of 18 mm against a thickness of 12 mm in the original Prada due to the inclusion of the sliding Qwerty Keyboard. The absence of GPS in Prada II is bound to raise a few eyebrows considering that LG is demanding a price of € 600 euros (£469 & $810). The new Prada mobile will be available though major mobile dealerships in Italy, UK, France, Germany, Spain and Netherlands in the 4Q of 2008.

Detailed Specs of LG Prada II KF 900 :

5 Mega Pixel Auto Focus Camera with Flash

Schneider-Kreuznach optics

VGA (640 x 480) Video Capture

3.0 inch WQVGA Screen with resolution of 400 x 240 pixels

Quad Band GSM

3G HSDPA & Wi-fi

Physical Qwerty Keypad

Video player MPEG4/3gp/DivX6

Media player MP3/AAC+/WAV

Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP

Micro SD card slot

Photo & Video Editor

104.5 x 54 x 16.8 mm dimensions

Source : LG

Get push feature for your gmail in iphone

Hi Friends,

As you all must be aware that the latest firmware of iPhone has introduced the feature of push mail. But sadly for Gmail its not fully push, its a fetch system, which checks for your mail ever 15 mins or 30 mins or more.

The real push is only for Apple's paid service mobile me, MS Exchange and yahoo mail.

So I came across an idea to get Gmail as push in iPhone via yahoo. This may be useful to many Gmail users.

Its a very simple process.

Step 1:
Create a new ymail account at yahoo (If you have a yahoo account then u can use that & combine the yahoo & Gmail into 1)

Step 2:
Login in your Gmail & go to settings....and then select the option of filters....and then finally click on "Create New Filter".
Then enter your Gmail email address in the to section like shown in the image below.

Click on Image to see Full Size Image

Click on Next Step

Select the option of "Mark as read" to avoid confusion in your Gmail account. (If you don't select that, then all the mails forwarded to ymail> will be shown as unread in Gmail)

Then enter your "ymail" email address in forward it to column as shown in the picture below.

Click on Image to see Full Size Image

Click on Create Filter to finish the process.

Now all the mails sent to your Gmail will be forwarded to ymail automatically.

Step 3:
In your iPhone, delete or deactivate your Gmail mail setting. (This is done to avoid duplication of emails in your phone)

Step 4:
Create a new mail account of yahoo (your new ymail address which you just made).
And in settings of iPhone don't forget to keep the push on for yahoo.

That's it guys & gals..........you will now get all your Gmail mails pushed immediately via free yahoo.............!! Isn't that awesome?

The only minus point in this system is, you cant edit the outgoing smtp & use the Gmail for sending mails. So when you send email from your iPhone, it will go via yahoo. But you can always add a signature in settings and mention your Gmail address.

I hope this would be useful to the many iPhone + Gmail users who wanted free push mail. And one more important thing........with the new iPhone firmware 2.1, apple seems to have messed up the push feature altogether....and when the phone is idle, it does not work. It works only when the phone is in use. Even the fetch of Gmail is not working in idle mode. But apple has recognised this bug & is working upon it and will correct it soon in a future firmware.

However the users with firmware 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2 should be able to get push emails even in idle mode.

HTC T8920 leaks, has WiMax support

HTC has presented a WiMax enabled device at the WiMax World Conference in Chicago. The KC 780 contains a 8 Mega Pixel Camera & is just 13.9 mm thick, which is quite a feat considering it contains such a high resolution camera in it. It is the slimmest handset till now to have a 8 Mega Pixel Camera as the Samsung M8000 Pixon is 14.8 mm thick. Apart from being a digital camera, it also doubles up as a camcorder as it can shoot in Wide VGA at a resolution of 720 x 480 at 30 Frames per Second. The KC 780 also has other features like ace and smile detection, beauty shot, image stabilization and ISO 1600.

The KC 780 has a 2.4 inch display with support of 262 colors & QVGA (240 x 320) resolution. It has the latest Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR, 140 MB Storage & MicroSD card slot. However it doesn't have support for 3G or HSDPA so the only choice for data transfers is EDGE. The KC 780 will be also be able to stream video over it's bluetooth connection so it can also double up as a wireless web cam.

The Kc 780 is the second 8 Mega Pixel Shooter from LG after the KC 910 Renoir. It's main competition is from the other 8 Mega Pixel phones like the Sony Ericsson C905, Samsung i8510 Innov8 & Samsung M8000 Pixon. The tri-band (900/1800/1900) handset will start shipping as early as November this year at a price which is yet to be announced.

Detailed Specs of LG KC 780 :

8 Mega Pixel Auto Focus Camera with LED Flash

Schneider-Kreuznach optics

720 x 480 & 640 x 480 30 FPS Video Capture

Camera face and smile detection, Beauty shot

2.4 inch QVGA Screen with resolution of 320 x 240 pixels

Accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate

Tri Band GSM 900/1800/1900 with EDGE

Video player MPEG4/3gp/DivX6

Media player MP3/AAC+/WAV

Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP

Micro SD card slot

140 MB Internal Memory

Document viewer (DOC, XLS, PDF, PPT)

107 x 52 x 13.9 mm dimensions & 119 gm weight

Motorola launch Q11, has no 3G

Motorola has launched a new Winodws Mobile Smartphone today. It's running on Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard & is the successor of the Motorola Q9. The Q11 has Wi-fi, GPS & the 3.2 Mega Pixel Camera as it's main attraction. However it also suffers in some respect due to only 64 MB RAM & a slow ARM 7 LTE CPU from Freescale. The Q11 also has USB v1.1 and Bluetooth v 2.1 on board and also contains a microSD card slot for expanding the built-in memory. The lack of 3G & HSDPA support however will force users to use EDGE for on-the-go wireless data or Wi-fi when they can find a hotspot.

Also the battery is on the slim side with capacity of just 1170 mAH. The Q11 has a 2.4 Inch QVGA Screen which is not aligned to the center of the phone but is shifted to right. In it's place there are notification LED's. Motorola Q 11 measures the pretty slim 117 x 6 4x 11.7 mm, totaling a volume of 85cc. Its weight is passable 115 g. Motorola Q 11 is expected to be available in December 2008 but there is no information regarding its pricing yet.

Detailed Specs of Motorola Q11 :

3.2 Mega Pixel Fixed Focus Camera with LED Flash

2.4 inch QVGA Screen with resolution of 320 x 240 pixels

Full Qwerty Heypad

Push E-mail & IM

Freescale ARM 7 LTE processor

LTE + Intel Bulverde Chipset

64 MB Ram

EDGE, Wi-fi & GPS

Quad Band GSM

Bluetooth 2.1

Video player MPEG4/3gp/WMV/H.264

Media player MP3/AAC+/WAV/WMA

Micro SD card slot

Pocket Internet Explorer 6

microUSB Slot, USB 1.1

Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard

117 x 64 x 11.7 mm dimensions & 115 gm weight

Source : Motorola

Blackberry 9500 Storm is finally announced

After numerous leaks, Research in Motion (RIM) finally announced the Blackberry 9500. It will be exclusively sold by Verizon in US, Vodafone in Europe & Telus in Canada. After the final specs were released a notable omission is the lack of Wi-fi in the Storm. That seems to be a big mistake on part of Blackberry to make an iPhone rival Touch Screen Smartphone without Wi-fi functionality. In present times, Wi-fi has become a must in High-end Smartphones & RIM's decision to not pack the 9500 with Wi-fi could hurt it in 9500's sales. Especially when Nokia has started to put Wi-fi in all of it's new N-Series & E-Series phones. In Windows Mobile world, almost all phones have Wi-fi in them. The decision is also confusing as the Blackberry 9000 Bold already has Wi-fi in it.

The Blackberry Storm 9500 will be sold through Vodafone networks and will be free on monthly plans of 35 GBP and up with an 18-month contract. The Blackberry Storm 9530 is the variant of the handset that will be sold in North America through Verizon & Telus. Along with the quad-band GSM and 2100Mhz UMTS support that the 9500 model has, it will also offer CDMA2000 1xEV-DO support. iPhone 3G comparison from an Indian perspective

Photo Credit: Apple, Inc. (Original - Left, 3G - Right)

I had the joy of using both the models of iPhone. My 1st was bought from USA and unlocked using ziPhone in India. As iPhone 3G can’t be unlocked as of now, so I had to buy that from India.

Let’s discuss how the 2 phones are different for a user in India.

I will start with the advantages that the original iPhone has over 3G:

1. Cheaper
Although the 3G model is cheaper in USA ($ 199 instead of $399 for original one), but when purchased in India from grey market, it’s around 20 – 22 K INR, which is about INR 10K cheaper that the 3G model.

2. Sturdy

Original iPhone back is made of anodized aluminum, which is stronger and more durable than the all plastic back of 3G. Even if used without a case, the only part which is prone to scratches is the apple logo on back & to some extent the sides which are of steel finish. Also there won’t be any smudges, fingerprints on back side. In case of 3G the back is entirely plastic, and it’s extremely prone to scratches and smudges. Infact I am taking utmost care of my 3G, as my case is yet to arrive from USA & I keep my phone only on soft surfaces, still I can see some scratches on it already.

3. Unlock

Any software version of the original iPhone can be unlocked free of cost & used with any GSM provider in the world. A software based unlock for the 3G is not yet out. Although some rebel sim solutions are available for unlocking 3G, but they are expensive (US$ 50) and are not very reliable also.

4. Dock
Apple had included the dock for original iPhone, which is not there for 3G in the box. It has to be purchased separately for 3G (US$ 29)

5. Cydia & Installer
When iPhone is jail broken, you get 2 more installers in addition to the App Store, viz. Cydia & Installer. These unleash the true potential of iPhone & remove the limitations like SMS forwarding, individual sms deletion, etc. Although the iPhone 3G can be jail broken, but then the warranty gets void.

6. 3G
There is no 3G in India as of now. So as long as it’s not available, the iPhone 3G and original iPhone make no difference to users in India.

7. GPS
GPS in iPhone 3G does not have voice guided navigation as of now, so basically at the moment it’s more of a gimmick that a feature to have. By using Google maps in original iPhone, one can get a pretty close location (which is roughly about 100 meters from original).

Photo Credit: Apple, Inc. (Left - Original, Middle & Right - 3G)

Now let’s see the advantages iPhone 3G has over the original iPhone

1. Warranty
Purchasing iPhone 3G in India will give the warranty, which is absent for the grey market original iPhone.

2. Better grip
iPhone 3G gives a better grip than the original one. This is because of the plastic back and the curved shape. So there are much less chances of phone slipping from your hands.

3. Easy update of firmware
As the phone is officially purchased, so updating firmware is very simple by just updating from iTunes. For the original iPhone, there is a little more complicated process involved & also unlocks are not available immediately as the firmware gets released.

4. 3G
Although 3G is not yet available in India, but in future when it’s eventually deployed, it can be a major advantage in terms of data transfer speeds.

5. GPS
When major companies like Garmin, Tom-tom, etc release the voice based navigation softwares, the GPS of iPhone can be very useful. But at the moment it’s more of a gimmick than a use. Some minor uses of GPS are location tagging of photos or using softwares available on App Store to determine your exact location & mail it to relatives to let them see in Google maps as were exactly you are.

6. Speed
iPhone 3G feels faster that the jail broken original iPhone. For opening applications, one can easily notice the difference in speeds.

7. Better reception
Although I always had full network coverage in India in both the iPhones, but as per Apple the plastic back of 3G facilitates better reception.

8. Battery
The battery life of 3G is significantly better than the original model. Also as the battery is not soldered, so the replacement should be easier. Also the 3G provides 2 small screws at the bottom to open the phone, which were absent in original.

9. Headphone jack
The 3G iPhone has a normal headphone jack instead of the recessed one in original. So any headphones can be used in it.

Looking at the above comparison, both the phones have certain advantages and disadvantages over each other. But in the current scenario, the original iPhone seems a better bet. But as it’s no longer manufactured by apple, so getting one is bit difficult. And of course the users who have the original should not upgrade to the 3G in my opinion.

However it will all change when 3G services will be eventually available in India. But the cost of the 3G will be key, as India is a very price conscious market. But again people who can afford 31,000 for 3G iPhone won’t mind high 3G costs either….hehehe

Nokia announce 5800 Xpress Music

Nokia Today launched the 5800 Xpress Music Phone. Metal finds an active use, just like in i8510. The camera lens sticks out above the surface but slightly, a second protruding piece added a bit lower to balance the handset and make it easier to hold. The quality of assembly and materials is pleasingly high. Just like any other touchscreen handset, M8800 is exposed to unwanted fingerprints and soiling (to a tolerable extent). The screen diagonal, weight and size are all balanced, you don’t feel any discomfort holding the device in the hand. A thickness of 14.5 isn’t amazing, yet very pleasing for a 8 Mp cameraphone. The KC910 model is thinner, but is more exposed to soiling, and doesn’t have an equally good design.

Samsung i8510 Innov8 & Sony Ericsson C905 Camera Comparison by Mobile Review

Mobile Review has posted comparison of Camera performance of the Samsung i8510 Innov8 & the Sony Ericsson C905.

During our quality time with either of these phones we made hundreds of photos in all imaginable environments (all in all, the final count is this: five hundred for the C905 and around a thousand for the INNOV8). So, in my opinion, we won't run out of sample snaps any time soon, plus this vast gallery we have accumulated over the last months should make for a decent and comprehensive comparison between these two cameraphones.

Furthermore, having some other not-yet-announced 8 Mpix shooters on our hands, we managed to see how the INNOV8 and C905 fared against similarly geared solutions - as it turned out, they weren't that much different at all.

Sony Ericsson W902 Review by Smape

Smape has reviewed the Sony Ericsson W902 in a very long & detailed review with lots of pics.

For a long time, Sony Ericsson have been following the policy of an accurate segmentation of their products. The majority of music-oriented solutions normally have below-than-average camera capabilities, the cameraphones almost never get a decent headset in the bundling and come around with a very plain player interface. The W980i music phone flagship equipped with a 8 Gb onboard flash storage unit is a good illustration to this policy. The camera is pretty plain, and so is the camera-controlling application. At that, the model utilizes the integrated accelerometer to the full, the ShakeControl feature greatly improving the usability of the music player.

LG launch KP 500 affordable Touch Screen Phone

LG today announced the KP 500, an affordable Touch Screen Phone.
