The big smartphones OSes on the market have all got new phones available, but which one is best? Let's take a look how the latest Symbian, Android and Windows Mobile phones stack up against each other.

Sony Ericsson Satio

It's fair to say that the Sony Ericsson Satio is easily one of the most hotly anticipated phones of the year. On the face of it, the big reason for the excitement is its 12 megapixel camera, and whilst that is a force to be reckoned with, there's so much more to the Sony Ericsson Satio. It's the first 'Entertainment Unlimited' phone, and that doesn't just mean it combines Cyber-Shot and Walkman technology. On top of that, the Sony Ericsson Satio is also going to pull in social networking, high quality games and incredible video services to become a one-stop mobile entertainment hub. It promises far more than that, however, as the Sony Ericsson Satio is also powered by Symbian, giving it true smartphone capabilities, which will no doubt include its very own app store.

Motorola DEXT

Android is trying to take over the world, and its new home is the beautiful Motorola DEXT. Part of the huge appeal of the Motorola DEXT is its brilliant new interface, which Motorola are calling MOTOBLUR. It's designed to put all your social networking tools right on the front page of your Motorola DEXT, so staying connected with the world is easier than ever. You also get the Android Marketplace, which lets you download and install third party apps to your Motorola DEXT, and it ends up creating a smartphone that really can morph into whatever you want it to be.

HTC HD2

So, the Motorola DEXT brings Android to the party, and adds on a new custom interface. The Sony Ericsson Satio does the same to Symbian. But is there a phone that can outdo them? Yes, there is: the HTC HD2. If you're talking big screens, there's no way you can avoid the HTC HD2, because it holds the record for the biggest screen seen on a mobile phone. At a huge 4.3 inches, it is truly vast, and the high, 800x480 resolution makes it genuinely easy to use things like scrollbars in menus. However, the HTC HD2 actually does a very good job of making it so you don't have to go into standard Windows menus that often, as on top of the operating system, the interface is HTC's patented TouchFLO 3D setup, where everything is achieved through various finger swipes and sweeping gestures. It is truly intuitive, and it (along with the truly awesome 1GHz Snapdragon processor) is the reason why the HTC HD2 is such an unmitigated joy to use. Of course, it's not all about being pretty, a phone needs to have decent features and the HTC HD2 has them in spades, from the 5 megapixel camera, through GPS, to incredibly fast HSDPA internet access (not to mention the superb Opera Mobile web browser). To a lot of people, the HTC HD2 is the ultimate Windows Mobile- no, the ultimate phone, full stop, that has ever been made...

The Nokia N97 Mini is here! But is it good enough to outdo the Symbian phones already available? Let's find out.

Samsung i8910 HD

First up, there's the Samsung i8910 HD, and it has one big advantage over the other two phones on this list. Whilst it has an 8 megapixel camera, the Samsung i8910 HD is also the first phone to record true 720p HD video. Never before has a phone been able to capture video at that massive high resolution, and coincidentally (or is it coincidence? Maybe not...), the Samsung i8910 HD captures high-def video at the exact quality that Youtube display high-def videos at. It's very possible that the Samsung i8910 HD was designed with its main feature being the ability to get yourself on Youtube, in high-definition. Combine that with the sumptuous 3.7 inch screen, and a huge 8Gb of internal memory, and it's very clear that the Samsung i8910 HD is the one to go for if you want the best camera phone.

Sony Ericsson Satio

There's no doubting the sheer power of the Sony Ericsson Satio. First and foremost on its list of awesome features is its key selling point: the Sony Ericsson Satio is the first phone announced for the UK to have a 12 megapixel camera. It also features technology culled from the Cyber-Shot range of phones, so, quite simply, the Sony Ericsson Satio is the single best camera phone in existence. However, it also has true smartphone credentials, as it features the new Symbian S60 Touch OS, giving it a sleek interface, bags of power, and the option to add on loads of third party software. It is, frankly, an astounding phone!

Nokia N97 Mini

So, there's the Samsung i8910 HD, with HD video capture. And there's the Sony Ericsson Satio, with a gorgeous 12MP camera. And now, they have a new rival, the Nokia N97 Mini. One of the big reasons why the Nokia N97 Mini is so anticipated, and why it'll no doubt sell like hotcakes, is that it really IS the N97, but in a more pocket-friendly size. The exact same operating system, Symbian S60 Touch, gives the Nokia N97 Mini a finger friendly interface, and on top of that, the phone has a built in QWERTY keyboard, so it has more ways to access the phone than ever before. It's not just about the interface, though, as the Nokia N97 Mini is packed with high-end features. A 5 megapixel camera makes for superb photos, the multimedia playback is stunning, and with HSDPA and GPS, it's not short of connectivity options. But is it the best Symbian phone money can buy? Well, no. It's nice, but it's just that the other two phones on this list are so much nicer.

It's consistently been one of the premier smartphone operating systems on the market for many years, but now, Symbian is making its big change to get back to the top of the game. Let's take a look at three phones that aim to bring it back to the top spot.

Nokia N97 Mini

One of the big reasons why the Nokia N97 Mini is so anticipated, and why it'll no doubt sell like hotcakes, is that it really IS the N97, but in a more pocket-friendly size. There's a very good reason for that. Whilst it has an 8 megapixel camera, the Samsung i8910 HD is also the first phone to record true 720p HD video. Never before has a phone been able to capture video at that massive high resolution, and coincidentally (or is it coincidence? It's very possible that the Samsung i8910 HD was designed with its main feature being the ability to get yourself on Youtube, in high-definition. And while the Nokia N97 Mini has a hardware keyboard, and the video on the Samsung i8910 HD easily surpasses the N97 Mini. Now add the sumptuous 3.7 inch screen, and a huge 8Gb of internal memory, and it's very clear that the Samsung i8910 HD show the world exactly how mobile multimedia should be done.

Symbian, Windows Mobile and WebOS. Three top operating systems. But which can lay claim to being the best phone? Let's find out!

HTC HD2

Windows Mobile is an incredibly powerful beast, and it's run in some of the most powerful phones on the planet. However, when you get down to it, some of the icons and menus can be a little bit, well, fiddly. In taking over the Windows design ethos to mobile phones, Microsoft carried over things like scrollbars, which, when translated to a smaller screen, are pretty much only realistically usable with a stylus. That's why so many phones are coming out with their own interface on top of Windows, and why phones with bigger screens are the best option.

If you're talking big screens, there's no way you can avoid the HTC HD2, as for a few months, it held the record for the biggest screen seen on a mobile phone. To a lot of people, the HTC HD2 is the ultimate Windows Mobile- no, the ultimate phone ever made...

Palm Pre

So, the Sony Ericsson Satio offers that awesome camera, and the HTC HD2 offers the best screen and processor in the business. And since Palm have been around for years, one must ask: what does the Palm Pre offer that's different? Well, one could talk about the WebOS interface it uses, as it's unique in the annals of phone history. And indeed, there's one feature of WebOS, directly related to the keyboard, that makes the Palm Pre so cool. Universal search. Now, many phones do that, but the Palm Pre does it so much more cleverly. Just start typing what you want to know about, from the front screen, and the Palm Pre will search your contacts, apps, music, pictures, and even the internet, to interpret and find what you're looking for. That really is a cool feature, and it may well make the Palm Pre the coolest QWERTY phone out there. But, in the end, there can only be one winner, and it's the HTC HD2, quite simply the best phone ever made!

A phone with a camera is one of the key things people ask for when buying a new handset. But should you get a smartphone with a camera, or a feature phone?

Samsung Pixon 12

Ok, so it's fair to say the Sony Ericsson Satio is a work of genius. But is there a mobile phone that can beat it? Well, here's the Samsung Pixon, that aims to try. Mind you, it has to be said, the Samsung Pixon is a truly beautiful mobile phone, and arguably produces better photos than the Sony Ericsson Satio. And then, of course, there's that huge touchscreen, and that slick interface, making for one incredibly sexy and lovable mobile phone. At the end of the day, it's going to come down to personal preference, but if you're going solely for image quality (and bear in mind, when I say this, that it's a Sony junkie saying it...), I'd really have to go for the incredible Samsung Pixon. If you want a smartphone, go for the Satio.

Or, maybe, there is another smartphone alternative.

Samsung i8910 HD

The Samsung Pixon 12 is undoubtedly a superb camera phone, but it's not a smartphone. So, of the first two on this list, the Sony Ericsson Satio takes the crown for being the most powerful. The Samsung i8910 HD, though, has one big advantage over the other two (despite having a less impressive stills camera). Combine that with the sumptuous 3.7 inch screen, and a huge 8Gb of internal memory, and it's very clear that the Samsung i8910 HD deserves its place as one of the phones of the year, mainly because it's as close to being flawless as any recent phone has come.

Of all the smartphones currently available, three phones in particular show off their respective operating systems better than any other phones. Let's check these superphones out.

Sony Ericsson Satio

It's fair to say that the Sony Ericsson Satio is easily one of the most hotly anticipated phones of the year. From an objective viewpoint, the HTC HD2 is the ultimate Windows Mobile phone.

Palm Pre

So, the Sony Ericsson Satio offers that awesome camera, and the HTC HD2 offers the best screen and processor in the business. That really is a cool feature, and it may well make the Palm Pre the coolest QWERTY phone out there. If you value the interface above all else, the Palm Pre is the phone for you.

The Sony Ericsson Satio has now hit the market, so let's take a look at how it stacks up against its rivals.

Toshiba TG01

Next up, there's a phone that really gives Windows Mobile the grunt it needs to run properly: the Toshiba TG01. In terms of outstanding new technologies, what the Toshiba TG01 brings to the party isn't the 4.1 inch display (although that's noteworthy in itself), but what's inside it. The Toshiba TG01 uses a next-gen, dual-core Snapdragon processor, which runs at 1GHz, and that means the Toshiba TG01 is the most powerful phone in existence... which is good, because in terms of other features, the Sony Ericsson Satio leave the Toshiba TG01 in the dust.

Samsung i8910 HD

As nice as the Sony Ericsson Satio is, however, in the arena of mobile video, it's overshadowed by a phone from Korea, the Samsung i8910 HD. There's a very good reason for that. Whilst it, like the Samsung Tocco Ultra has an 8 megapixel camera, the Samsung i8910 HD is also the first phone to record true 720p HD video. And while the Toshiba TG01 has a 4 inch screen, that's only slightly bigger than this phone, and the video on the Samsung i8910 HD easily surpasses the TG01. Now add the sumptuous 3.7 inch screen, and a huge 8Gb of internal memory, and it's very clear that the Samsung i8910 HD show the world exactly how mobile multimedia should be done.

The Palm Pre is, really soon, going to be available in the UK. But what others phones will it have to beat to be the best? Let's find out.

Samsung i8910 HD

Sitting right at the top of Samsung's product range, there's the awesome Samsung i8910 HD. It doesn't just have the looks. It doesn't just have an 8MP camera. The Samsung i8910 HD is a true smartphone, using the powerful Symbian OS. On top of that, though, it has a 3D version of the TouchWiz UI, making it simply incredible to use. And finally, there's the Samsung i8910 HD's party piece: its camera doesn't just take phenomenal photos; you see, the Samsung i8910 HD is also the first phone in history to record true HD video. It really is as powerful as phones come, and if you want an uncompromising smartphone, with just about every bell and whistle imaginable, you need the Samsung i8910 HD.

Toshiba TG01

Windows Mobile phones have had a tendency, in the past, to be a bit clunky. The interface wasn't the best, and that ruined all that power they had. But now, we have to face facts; the Toshiba TG01, the most powerful mobile phone EVER made. That's not an exaggeration, the Toshiba TG01 is the first phone in history to have a 1GHz processor, taking its performance way beyond any mobile phones before, into laptop territory. Combine that with a unique 3D interface on top, and at 4.1 inches, the biggest screen of any mobile phone, and the Toshiba TG01 is all set to take its rightful place as the most powerful and best Windows phone that's ever been released.

Palm Pre

So, there's the Toshiba TG01, which relies on masses of raw power to give you an exceptional experience. And then, there's the Samsung i8910 HD, which wows you with its Symbian OS and its HD video recording. But for ease of use and sleekness, nothing can touch the Palm Pre. With its WebOS operating system, the Palm Pre is easily the most intuitive phone on the market. Not only that, but the integration between apps on the Palm Pre is like nothing ever seen before, making it feel like the phone is, at times, doing your thinking for you. There's never been a phone like the Palm Pre, and for that reason, it must surely be the phone of the year, so far.

Phones that have eight megapixel cameras are rapidly becoming seen as mid-range phones. Let's check out three of the best 8MP phones on the market.

Sony Ericsson Aino

If there's one name that really stands out in the world of music phones, it's 'Walkman'. What happens, though, if you take a Walkman phone, and give it an 8MP camera that's straight out of a Cyber-Shot phone, and re-christen it as an Entertainment Unlimited phone? You get the utterly brilliant Sony Ericsson Aino!

The combination of Walkman and Cyber-Shot is what makes the Sony Ericsson Aino, and the Entertainment Unlimited series as a whole, so very compelling. Top-end imaging is just a button-press away, and the Sony Ericsson Aino always makes music sound better than anything you can imagine. It doesn't have a smartphone OS, but you do get a touch-enabled media centre with the Sony Ericsson Aino. Just slide the phone closed, and it goes from being a standard phone into being a touchscreen portable multimedia player!

Samsung Tocco Ultra

What would happen if you took an awesome camera, and a sumptuous interface, but gave it a slide-out keyboard, and unbelievably, made it thinner than its predecessors? You'd get the gorgeous Samsung Tocco Ultra, one of the prettiest phones Samsung have ever made. It really is quite astounding that, despite being thinner than the Aino, the Samsung Tocco Ultra manages to squeeze in that beautiful keyboard. If amazing looks (with superb features) are what you seek from a phone, then the Samsung Tocco Ultra is perfect for you.

LG GD900 Crystal

So, there's the Sony Ericsson Aino, which is slightly let down by the touchscreen only working in media player mode. And then, there's the Samsung Tocco Ultra, which gives you a full touchscreen interface, a slide-out keypad, and gorgeous looks. Key to the incredible experience the LG GD900 Crystal gives you is its interface, as it uses LG's new S-Class UI. To visualise it, imagine a 3D cube, sitting on the screen of the LG GD900 Crystal, and on each side of the cube, there are things like shortcuts to apps, links direct to your music, or other widgets that you can customise yourself. The fun part comes when you interact with the LG GD900 Crystal, as you simply swipe across the screen, to rotate round those faces, and get to what content you want. However, the screen on the LG GD900 Crystal also supports multitouch. It doesn't end there, though, as the phone's keypad, as well as being COMPLETELY see-through, also supports multitouch gestures. It truly is the best phone on this list.

Samsung India announced the launch of world’s first full touch-screen phone that offers High Definition 720p video recording on a 360x640pixel resolution 9.4cm AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) display that offers vibrant pictures and consumes less power offering better backup time for your battery.

The display reproduces bright and vibrant visuals also the touch interface works great. The only drawback in this phone is that Samsung has yet to perfect the adaptation of Symbian operating system like Nokia has. This phone runs the latest Symbian Series 6 OS along with an ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz processor and an independent 3D graphics accelerator the PowerVR SGX 530 GPU. In many of the places and the official Samsung Press release, you will find that it is mentioned that this phone has a 1GHz processor but the fact is that it is a sum total of the processor and the graphic accelerator.

The 8 megapixel autofocus camera supports up to a maximum resolution of 3264X2448 pixels. For low light conditions the Omnia HD sports a LED flash for illumination, which is not great but can be useful sometimes. Images captured in light are crisp and blur free, all thanks to its Image stabilization and ISO 1600 recording speed. In the dark images tend to be a little grainy. Its massive 16GB memory is enough to take care of your day to day storage needs plus the 256MB of RAM certainly helps the phone to work faster. If you still are not happy with it then you can add up to 32 GB micro SD card to increase its storage. Samsung Mobile Phone

With its big screen and its inbuilt GPS capabilities this phone also doubles itself up as a Personal Navigation Device and it also features voice guidance. Although this phone misses out on the embedded GPS Chip but the A-GPS works equally well.

It also supports virtual 5.1Ch Dolby surround, and the sound is equally good through the set of supplied earplugs. IT also has a 1500 mAh Lithium-ion battery pack that can power this device for longer times but the actual backup will depend on the user’s usage. Overall the Omnia HD is a great phone with an easy to use interface and top of the line features. It can seriously be considered as one of the very few phones that can stand tall against the Apple iPhone. But With technology improving every second we cannot really say that how much longer this phone will be able to stay among the top few.

For more detail on Htc Mobile Phone log on to http://www.consumermate.com

Windows Mobile 6.5 is finally here, and it takes WinMo phones to new, unbelievable heights. Even existing phones are getting in on the act, so let's check out the big three that will now run Windows Mobile 6.5.

HTC Touch Diamond2

The HTC Touch Diamond2 actually does a very good job of making it so you don't have to go into standard Windows menus that often, as on top of the operating system, the interface is HTC's patented TouchFLO 3D setup, where everything is achieved through various finger swipes and sweeping gestures. It is truly intuitive, and it's the reason why the HTC Touch Diamond2 is such an unmitigated joy to use. Of course, it's not all about being pretty, a phone needs to have decent features and the HTC Touch Diamond2 has them in spades, from the 5 megapixel camera, through GPS, to incredibly fast HSDPA internet access (not to mention the superb Opera Mobile web browser). To many, the HTC Touch Diamond2 is the ultimate Windows Mobile phone. The HTC Touch Diamond2 will be upgradable to Windows Mobile 6.5 through an official HTC software update.

HTC Touch Pro2

The HTC Touch Pro2 brings Windows Mobile to the party, and it really is a joy to use, and just like the HTC Touch Diamond2, it's optimised for touch controls. Or, in other words, you press the screen on the HTC Touch Pro2 with a finger, not a dibber (well, ok, a stylus, but dibber sounds better, to me). Specs-wise, it's no slouch, either, with 5 megapixel camera, HSDPA, WiFi, built-in GPS and a frankly brilliant slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It truly is a gorgeous mobile phone, and I'll be frank, it's hard to think of any other Windows Mobile phone coming close to it. The HTC Touch Pro2 will be upgradable to Windows Mobile 6.5 through an official HTC software update.

Toshiba TG01

So, there's the HTC Touch Diamond2, which has beautiful looks, and there's the HTC Touch Pro2, which adds in a QWERTY keyboard. But finally, there's the fastest Windows Mobile phone yet released, the Toshiba TG01, which comes with an unbelievable 4.1 inch screen. That huge screen and the ludicrously fast 1GHz 'Snapdragon' processor give Windows a whole new lease of life, removing any of the 'clunkiness' Windows phones of long ago may have had. In the case of the Toshiba TG01, Windows Mobile is allied to a brand new, 3D interface, with a series of 3 revolving strips that contain all your apps and shortcuts. The animations and actions of the new Windows Mobile 6.5 interface are smooth and beautiful, and it's even better with the Toshiba TG01, as the manufacturer has announced that all TG01s sold, from now on, will come with 6.5 pre-installed!

The Motorla CLIQ could do wonders for Motorola's struggling handset business. It is the first Android powerd mobile phone by Motorola and looks set to be a powerful contender.

An impressive specification including 5 megapixel camera, WiFi & 3G should put the Motorola Cliq head and shoulders above its competitors. I imagine the Motorola CLIQ sim free will take over your life and become much more than just a mobile phone.

Motorola have created their own user interface called MOTOBLUR. This will take all of your channels of communication such as Twitter, Facebook, SMS and E-mail and put them all in one place for your convenience.

The interesting thing about the Motorola CLIQ is how it treats all types of communication the same. From one screen you will be notified of any new tweets, facebook messages, text messages and incoming calls.. I really like how Motorola are telling you what your friends are saying instead of how they have sent it.

When you browse through your contacts, you can see each of your specific contacts social network activity and updates. The interesting part of the phonebook though is it automatically gathers information about your friends from their social network profiles.

The vivid 3.1" touchscreen is ideal, large enough to view pictures and video but not so large that it will be a struggle to fit in your pocket.

Similar to the iPhone, the Motorola CLIQ Sim Free has access to the Android app store making new applications and functionality just a click away.

Motorola CLIQ Sim Free Features Summary-

* Google Android OS
* Exclusive MOTOBLUR interface (this is truly stunning)
* Vivid 3.1" touchscreen
* Full hardware keyboard
* 5 Megapixel camera with geotagging
* On board GPS
* Compass
* 7.2 Mbps 3G
* Full WiFi
* Bluetooth with streaming support

While this is something that would have sounded like science fiction just a decade ago, Picasa 3.5 can now automatically recognize faces in your photographs, and tag them with names!

If you have been using Google's online Picasa Web Albums service for storing your images, you might have noticed that quite a while back, Google added a face recognition feature. Picasa would automatically detect the faces of people in photographs and allow you to associate them with your contacts, so that other photographs you had, or added later would automatically be tagged with their name.

Now using Picasa 3.5 you can do all that on you desktop, without even needing a Google Account! When you install Picasa 3.5, it will scan your computer for images, and will then start looking for facial data in your images.

The initial process can take quite long, even a couple of hours, if you have a large number of photos with a large number of people. However once it is done you will notice that Picasa will automatically show all recognized images containing the same face together.

At this point you can now start associating the faces with names, and Picasa will automatically tag your photos automatically. The desktop version of Picasa, also goes well with the online web version, allowing you to login from the desktop software, and download the recognition data from your online account.

If you usually use you Digital Camera to take shots of your friends and family this will be a huge time saver for organizing your photographs. With minimal effort you will be able to tag and organize your images based on the people in them, a task which would have otherwise required many hours.

So go ahead and download Picasa 3.5 from the Picasa Website

For more detail on Free Download Software Log on to http://www.thinkdigit.com/

SPB Software are one of the best names in the third party mobile app business, and their flagship product is Mobile Shell, which has just been upgraded to Version 3.5. Let's take a look and see whether it can beat three of its interface rivals.

SPB vs Toshiba TG01

It's often said that Windows Mobile needs two things to run at its best: a powerful processor and a big display. Well, say hello to the Toshiba TG01, the phone with the fastest processor AND the biggest display in the history of phones! Weighing in at 1GHz and 4.1 inches respectively, those specs mean that the Toshiba TG01 will run Windows Mobile more smoothly than any other phone in existence; as well as that with that immense screen, the Toshiba TG01 makes drilling down into menus, and actually getting into the internals of Windows, so much easier. If power is your thing (and lets be honest, who doesn't want a powerful phone?), then the Toshiba TG01 is the phone for you, but in terms of interface, the 'stripe' interface the phone has cannot compete with the joys of SPB Mobile Shell, with its widget interface, which just leaves the standard interface on the TG01 in the dust.

SPB vs HTC Touch Diamond2

To many, the HTC Touch Diamond2 is the ultimate Windows Mobile phone, largely thanks to TouchFLO, but I find the SPB offering to be a far more user-friendly solution, and so, SPB Mobile Shell wins again.

SPB vs HTC Hero

Okay, so we've seen two Windows Mobile phones; first, there was the Toshiba TG01, and its stripe interface couldn't compete with Mobile Shell. Then there was the HTC Touch Pro2, and although TouchFLO is good, again, SPB Mobile Shell won. So, now, let's take a look at the most serious competition for SPB, and it's the HTC Hero, which uses the Sense UI, running on top of Android. As SPB Mobile Shell is reminiscent of the Android interface, this isn't an unfair comparison. It has all the good stuff that made the first Android phone (the G1) good, but puts it all in a touchscreen-only body, which is both sleek and sexy. Since the keyboard has been removed, the HTC Hero also has a full, onscreen keyboard, and a sumptuous new interface, the aforementioned Sense UI. This is again widget-based, and is really the only thing that can come close to the experience with SPB Mobile Shell. Mobile Shell is, though, faster, and runs more smoothly. So, what can we conclude? If you use a Windows Mobile phone, get Mobile Shell. It's a must-buy. And if you use the HTC Hero, Sense UI will let you experience something similar to SPB Mobile Shell.

QWERTY keyboards are becoming the must have feature for messaging phones and smartphones alike. Let's take a look at three of the best QWERTY phones available.

Nokia N97

It should beat the other two to market, so it's the first on this list: it's the Nokia N97, a true mobile multimedia computer. It's also the only phone in this article to feature a full QWERTY keyboard, which is sure to make the Nokia N97 the natural choice for those who live to text, or email. Not only that, but the Nokia N97 includes one of the best multimedia playback engines ever seen on a mobile phone, and with a massive 32Gb of internal memory, you're going to be able to get a LOT of stuff on it. Combine that with a 5 megapixel camera, and it makes the Nokia N97 a very solid purchase.

HTC Touch Pro2

Next up is the HTC Touch Pro2, and here, you get the added benefit of a QWERTY keyboard. However, like the previous TyTN II, with the HTC Touch Pro2, you can also tilt the screen up after sliding it open, putting it at a more natural viewing angle. In terms of other hardware, the HTC Touch Pro2 also gives you a 5 megapixel camera, HSDPA internet access (as well as WiFi), and GPS, putting it right up there in the top echelon of mobile phones. Software-wise, the HTC Touch Pro2 is powered by Windows Mobile, but, like an increasing number of Windows Mobile phones, it uses a proprietary interface on top (TouchFLO 3D, again, as with the Touch Diamond2), that takes the power of Windows Mobile, and makes it user-friendly. All in all, the HTC Touch Pro2 is one incredible mobile phone.

Palm Pre

So, representing Symbian, you have the Nokia N97, with its double-hit combo of astounding camera and music. Flying the flag for Windows Mobile, there's the HTC Touch Pro2. But we're discussing interfaces here, and one phone beats both of these powerhouses hands down: the groundbreaking Palm Pre. You see, the Palm Pre is built on an entirely custom interface called WebOS, that is easily the slickest, most intuitive interface that's ever been released. With intuitive gesture controls and finger sweeps for EVERY action on the phone, the Palm Pre also brings in tight integration between its apps. Book a cinema ticket on one app, and the Palm Pre automatically updates your calendar with the time. Multitask many different apps, and watch the Palm Pre run without any effort or lag. In the world of interfaces, basically, the Palm Pre just cannot be beaten!

Korea is rapidly becoming the home of the best mobile phones ever made. Let's take a look at three of the best currently on the market.

LG BL40 New Chocolate

LG have decided to do something a bit unorthodox with the LG BL40 New Chocolate, and what they've done is given it a 4 inch screen, with an unusual aspect ration. In other words, when you hold it in portrait mode, it's very long and thin. Also featuring the new touch-based S-Class UI, the LG BL40 New Chocolate is an incredible phone to use, with slick animations and smooth transitions between screens and menus. As well as the 5MP camera in the LG BL40 New Chocolate, you also get a stunning multimedia player, and super-fast internet access, making the LG BL40 New Chocolate one of the coolest camera phones out there.

Samsung Jet

The Samsung Jet is all about one thing: speed. And to make it mind-bendingly quick, the Samsung Jet has a processor running at 800MHz, faster than just about any other phone currently on sale. Combine that with a beautiful 3D 'Cubic' interface, and the Samsung Jet becomes a true work of art, that's both easy and rewarding to use. As for features, you get a 5MP camera, and lightning fast internet access, making the Samsung Jet the obvious choice if you want a non-smartphone that's nearly as powerful as a true smartphone.

Samsung i8910 HD

As nice as the Samsung Jet is, however, it's overshadowed by its 'big brother', the Samsung i8910 HD. There's a very good reason for that. Whilst it, like the Samsung Tocco Ultra has an 8 megapixel camera, the Samsung i8910 HD is also the first phone to record true 720p HD video. And while the LG BL40 New Chocolate has that huge screen, the Samsung i8910 HD combines its TouchWiz interface with Symbian, giving it true sleekness, as well as power. Now add the sumptuous 3.7 inch screen, and a huge 8Gb of internal memory, and it's very clear that the Samsung i8910 HD not only shows the difference between feature phones and smartphones, but also, is one of the best phones ever made!

Yet another addition to the highly successful business phones from Blackberry, the BlackBerry 9500 Storm is RIM's first touchscreen phone. Much of the design has been incorporated from the Blackberry Bold 9000. The phone comes with a large 3.25 inches TFT capacitive touchscreen and is supported by an accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate. This device is loaded with an internal memory of 1GB but it can be conveniently expanded up to 16GB. However the standard package of the phone comes with an 8GB microSD card for the card slot. The device is on a heavier side with a weight of 155 grams and is presently available only in the colour Black. The powerful battery forms most of the bulk but it looks impressive with a talk time of more than 5 hours and a standby time for almost 15 days.

The Storm is a Quad-band GSM phone but is also capable of 3G connectivity. HSDPA allows fast data downloading. This one lacks a real QWERTY keyboard which is considered as the most important feature of any successful business device. However the phone comes with a virtual on-screen keyboard with two versions- a SureType virtual keyboard (like the one in Blackberry Pearl) to be used in the portrait mode and a broader QWERTY keypad for the landscape mode. The built-in accelerometer sensor automatically facilitates in switching the two modes when the phone is rotated. The enhanced UI of the Storm supports multi-touch inputs, slides as well as taps just like the iPhone. It uses a Blackberry OS and runs on a 528 MHz processor from Qualcomm. This device is loaded with a Class10 GPRS and a Class10 EDGE and employs an HTML browser for browsing the internet. The built-in GPS receiver has A-GPS support which can be coupled with the Blackberry Maps application that has been included in the handset to provide excellent satellite navigation.

The Blackberry 9500 Storm allows Email and Instant Messaging. It also comes with a 3.15 mega pixel camera at the back of the body. Features like auto-focus, LED flash, geo-tagging and image stabilisation have been included apart from video recording in QVGA mode. The included media player appears to be very versatile and can playback MP3, WMA, AAC+, MP4, 3gp, H.264 and WMV formats. Also included in the ensemble are Document editor (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF), Organiser, Voice dial and Voice memo that makes the phone a complete business device.

The Initial Reaction

It is here, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 has finally made it into the microscope of public scrutiny. The specs are nothing short of impressive. Just as what one would expect from electronics and mobile phone giant Sony; but before we can even begin dissecting this phone, the external features require a serious degree of review as well.

One refreshingly cool change is the fact that this phone does not look as fragile as other touch screen phones. Where other mobile devices are sporting curves, the X2 has edges. Sony has traded in the glass-looking gloss finish of other mobile devices in exchange with the gray metal finish of the Xperia X2.

The best thing is, Sony’s many years of designing electronics shines in the way the X2 has been executed. The Xperia X2 is both edgy and classy, retaining the sophisticated feel of a smart phone while still looking tough enough for you to enjoy more and worry less.

The Inside Look

The processor is really good; it is able to load windows mobile version 6.5 pretty fast without unnecessary load times. The response of the touch screen to finger movements and tapping the screen is fast. The graphics refresh at a high rate but does not cause the phone any slowdown as well. Running applications is pretty much the same; they load fast and function quickly. There were some slow down problems when running windows mobile 6.1, but these are caused by windows instead of the mobile phone itself.

With the announcement that the X2 will be the last Sony phone to suffer windows mobile, the next one should fare a whole lot better in terms of performance. In the mean while, the X2 is reported to be compatible with the Windows Mobile version 7 and the built in windows mobile operating system can be upgraded.

Quick Spec Sheet Summary

A huge part of what makes the Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 a good phone is the fact that it comes with some pretty good hardware. The camera is a generous 8.1 mega pixels that is complemented by LED flash and auto focus features. Another nice feature is the expandable internal memory –which you should upgrade since the built in amount is rather small. Fortunately, if you cannot update memory yet, you can use the SD card slot using the 4GB SD card that comes along with the mobile phone.

Author: Matt Sharp

In 2009, the interface on a mobile phone is one of the most important factors in it being a success. Let's take a look at three of the most powerful OSes on the planet.

Samsung I7500

The first important fact about the Samsung I7500, and the bit that has made it so talked about, is its operating system: Google Android. As it's only the second phone to officially go on sale using Android, the Samsung I7500 has garnered an awful lot of trade and consumer interest. Even more importantly, the Samsung I7500 is the best-looking Android phone to feature a keyboard-less, touchscreen-only design, a thing that seems to be all the rage in 2009. It's easily more of a looker than any previous Android phones, and that fusion of enhanced looks and the still-awesome power of Android makes the Samsung I7500 a very compelling phone indeed. If innovation is your thing, this is the phone for you.

Toshiba TG01

Windows Mobile haven't been resting on their laurels, and the new fruit of their labours is the ultra-powerful Toshiba TG01. Not only does it have the biggest screen ever seen on a mobile phone, measuring in at 4.1 inches, but the Toshiba TG01 also has the most powerful processor put into a mobile phone. Dubbed Snapdragon, the 1GHz processor gives the Toshiba TG01 power, and lots of it, and since that's what's needed to let Windows Mobile live up to its full potential, the Toshiba TG01 is arguably the best WinMo phone that's ever been announced.

One thing's for sure, though, the Toshiba TG01 is definitely the most powerful phone on this list.

Palm Pre

So, there's the Toshiba TG01, with a ludicrously fast processor and Windows Mobile. And then, there's the Samsung I7500, which puts Android in the best-looking shell it's ever been in. What does the Palm Pre offer that's different? If you value the interface above all else, the Palm Pre is the phone for you.

The Palm Pre is finally coming to the UK in October! Let's take a look at it, and its main competitors for your money.

Palm Pre

What does the Palm Pre offer that's different? If you value the interface above all else, the Palm Pre is the phone for you.

HTC Hero

So, there's the HTC Touch Pro2, which relies on raw power to make Windows Mobile truly awesome. And then, there's the Palm Pre, which wows you with the phenomenal WebOS. However, there's an open source alternative to those two. Android is trying to take over the world, and its new home is the beautiful HTC Hero. It has all the good stuff that made the first Android phone (the G1) good, but puts it all in a touchscreen-only body, which is both sleek and sexy. Since the keyboard has been removed, the HTC Hero also has a full, onscreen keyboard, and a sumptuous new interface called Sense. You also get the Android Marketplace, which lets you download and install third party apps to your HTC Hero, and it ends up creating a smartphone that really can morph into whatever you want it to be. Based purely on that logic, the HTC Hero ably demonstrates just why Android is such a threat to the incumbent operating systems, but can it beat the Palm Pre? Honestly, I don't think it will...

With both the U.S. and Canada now showing signs of recovery from the recession, Microsoft is about to unveil it’s newly, much anticipated, and critically acclaimed, Windows 7 to be in stores and on computers October 22nd 2009. With XP entering retirement status and Windows 7 to take over, what about computers that have 6 years and then some of service with corporations, and small businesses, will these computers become subject to recycling?

With each new operating system Microsoft has released in the past dating back to before Windows 95 and 98, there have always been hardware, and peripheral, upgrades to mandate compliance with the new operating systems, and Windows 7 is no different. But with Windows 7, even though to get the full effects, and features, of the new OS system these upgrades are necessary. Windows 7 candidate release has been tested, and recognised though several computer forums to work better, and faster, than XP on computers manufactured and sold prior to Vista released in November 2006.

This is important to recognize because Windows 7 design base, is from the Vista platform that Microsoft stripped and rebuilt from scratch to maintain compatibility with the hardware of today’s computers. They simplified the structure of the basics to meet the needs of the tablet PC that has very little memory, or disk space, to run a complicated OS system. Hence will be Windows 7 Basic sku or product offering available in October 2009 and is also attributed as to why Windows 7 is able to run so well on older computers.

Any computer that was purchased since the November 2006 release of vista will be able to run Windows 7 with no problem. Why? Because Windows 7 was designed from the vista platform, in fact if you feel so inclined you can go to www.msdn.com and download a tool called Windows 7 Upgrade analyzer that will run a scan of your computer and tell you if your computer meets the requirements. It will also tell what you need to do to fix or update some programs or drivers to be compliant with the upgrade. You can also find the minimum requirements your computer needs to run windows 7 at this website. With computers that were purchased before the above date, I would also check the above website and run the analyzer, for compliance to make sure you get the full benefit of running this new and terrific product.

The good news is that Microsoft will support any computer with Windows 7 that could or will run the Vista platform which dates back to 3 years ago. The bad news is at this time they will not support Windows 7 on a machine that predates this era of computers; however they are encouraged and interested with the findings, testing, and forums in this regard. Since its release in November 2001 XP has run its course in time, by being Microsoft’s first and only OS system that has run for 9 years of accredited service to date. But times have changed, the way we communicate has changed, the way we do business has changed, and although history is important, it’s futures, and innovation, that spurs growth. And with Windows 7 being in development for 3 years, which is longer than any operating system Microsoft has released to date, this product is ready to meet and exceed all expectations, with speed, stability, security, and simplicity, with jaw dropping features given it has the required basic attributes to run.

Microsoft has really done their homework with this, the next generation of computing. This is our future, your future, and with the North American continent now showing signs of recovery it’s time to seek the information tools you need today for a brighter tomorrow. Windows 7 is ready for you, and is available to you now though pre ordering and will be in stores next month, but are you and your computer ready for Windows 7?

Should you require additional information please feel free to email me through my website at http://www.mhpenterprises.com

Thank You

Myles H Patterson

Director

Author: Derek Rogers

Whether you are looking to protect a small network in your home or one that is the foundation of your business, you will find that it is first important to understand what kind of threats you might be facing. As soon as you have a computer hooked up in order to connect to the network, you will find that there is a chance that it can be exposed to a number of different risks. When you are thinking about what you can do to make a system a great deal more secure, you will find that an understanding of the risks that you are vulnerable to is something that can help a great deal.

First and perhaps most obviously, is the threat of a virus. While the majority of viruses are simply annoying, there are definitely viruses that can damage your network's hardware, software, or both. For the most part, a virus is an executable file that will be spread by human means and will require someone to open it before it can do its work on the network. When looking at virus threats, it is worth understanding worms as well, which are considered a subset of viruses. Worms do not need human help to propagate themselves, and in fact one example of the way that they work is to turn your computer into an email server that will distribute copies of themselves.

When looking into network security threats, though, it is very important to consider what risks may be present from inside the system. First and foremost, the idea of bad architecture must be considered. If a network is mis-configured in the first place, it can be a very tempting target for people who are looking to get on it. One obvious example of this would be leaving a wireless network unsecured so that anyone with a network card could get onto it. This can certainly happen in a broader and more disastrous scope.

Interestingly enough, one of the most common measures taken to save time is also one that leaves network systems shockingly vulnerable. Consolidating a lot of services to one machine is a common measure for saving time and resources. It is easy to manage and simple to maintain, but if this single machine is compromised, there is a great deal of harm that can happen. While accidental failure is one thing, there is also the concern regarding the ease with which a single machine could be manipulated. In this case, the answer is frequently redundancy.

Computer network security is something that is very important, and if the information that you are safeguarding has anything to do with money or with personal information, it will achieve even a higher priority. Take some time and think about your system and think about whether it is vulnerable to any of the threats above. The more security that you can provide, the better off you will be. The protection of both your company and your customer depend on this aspect of your company's working, so always consider what network security means to you.
