According to technology site WinRumours, Microsoft is preparing an official Kinect Software Development Kit (SDK) and driver support for Windows based PCs. The Kinect is a device built
for the Xbox 360 that allows for manipulation of games via body motion instead of regular controls. The release of the SDK will allow programmers to create software and games for Windows PC, paving the way to fully control the next Windows interface using gesture based input and voice commands alone. The Kinect sold eight million units in its first 60 days on market. Microsoft has
also welcomed hackers to create new uses for the device.

Communications Minister Roy Padayahcie has announced that South Africa will adopt the DVB-T2 digital television standard, with all analogue terrestrial broadcasts to be switched off by December 2013. This concludes a process that has dragged on for five years, allowing the country to finally prepare itself for the move towards digital. Digital broadcasting would require set-top boxes for older televisions in order to receive the signal, with Government initially earmarking R2.45 billion to subsidise these to poorer households. THREAT ARE 'NOT ENOUGH'

Recently announced government plans by the UK government to tackle cyber crime may not be enough to combat the new breeds of attack that could threaten national and corporate security. In announcing its Strategic Defence and Security Review in October, the government says it will spend £650 million over the next four years on introducing a National Cyber Security Programme. It says that the risk emanating from cyber space is now classified as one of the four Tier One risks to national security. A new organisation, the UK Defence Cyber Operations Group, will be created and tasked of the cyber activities across defence operations.

Some industry experts believe that the government plans will need more funding to adequately protect the country's network and IT systems from attacks. A recent DDoS in Burma demonstrates the potential threat. Arbor Networks estimates that between 10 and 15Gbps of traffic has been overwhelming that country's 45Mbps terrestrial and satellite communications links, causing major disruption to networks in and out of the country. Ashish Patel, country manager UK and Ireland at network security firm Stonesoft, says the UK government's budget is "nowhere near enough" and doesn't even "scratch the surface." He also warns that despite the investment, spending cuts may ultimately take away more money than is being promised to fight cyber terrorism.

Rob Warmack, senior director of international marketing at IT company Tripwire, worries that the money won't be spent where it's needed most: "The investment of £650 million is a great start, but it is important the first wave of this investment is spent on setting the foundation for a stronger security ecosystem. The process of detect and defend, starts with the critically important step of detenting the cyper attack."
The Strategic Defence and Security Review acknowledges that cyber threats are likely to increase significantly over the next 5 to 10 years as dependence on cyber space deepens. Industry experts have warned that assaults on the network are becoming ever more sophisticated. For example, APTs (advanced persistent threats) attack in a complex, long lasting way and typically comprise of many small events over months in ways that current security hardware doesn't detect. Meanwhile, AETs (advanced evasion techniques) enable traditional malware to be slipped through data streams undetected like a "stealth bomber avoiding radar", according to Patel. It's feared that many organisations are currently ill-equipped to deal with these 'state-of-the-art' threats.

The viper power Dodge Tomahawk concept vehicle shatters all barriers of conventional thinking about personal transportation. This four wheel, single passenger vehicle is a sleek, rolling sculpture that combines art deco styling with extreme engineering. Tomahawk was first seen in 2003 at the Detroit Auto Show. The Dodge Tomahawk is powered by the same 500 horsepower 8.3 liter V-10 engine found in the legendary Viper. Through it never went into production, Chrysler sold nine of Tomahawks as ride able pieces through Neiman Marcus for up to $555,000 each, billing it as a pure mechanical sculpture and a joyous celebration of the artistry and emotion of design. The motorcycles cannot be legally driven on public roads as its not street legal in the US. Chrysler spokesman told they were meant as rolling sculptures, presumably to avoid legal liability. They are apparently drivable but not (legally) on public roads. Tomahawk can only be driven on private roads or on a track where it can be tested at high speeds also. Technically, it was considered by Chrysler as a "concept motorcycle", but by American standards Tomahawk isn't really a motorcycle. The National Traffic Safety Administration defines a motorcycle can have no more that 3 wheels on the ground during normal operation. Hence for Tomahawk to have been sold in the US. for road use and be street legal, it would have had to pass all of the automobile safety standards which it obviously can't pass. As the Tomahawk doesn't meet the legal requirements to be classified as a motorcycle by the U.S. government, or to be driven on the street my be one reason why it was never produced, save for nine copies sold by Neiman Marcus for use only on private roads as they phrased it, as automotive sculpture. The Tomahawk remained on displays at auto shows but not of reach of the general public.

UK LAUNCHES ITS LARGEST 4G TRIAL

UK Broadband is launching what it's claiming is the

country's largest trial of 4G technology. The network

has been deployed at Birmingham Science Park Aston

and testing will begin "imminently". The antenna masts

and base stations have been installed on the Science

Park's Faraday Wharf building as a testbed for

assessing the potential benefits to Birmingham of a

4G mobile network. The trial is being conducted in

conjunction with Birmingham City Council, Digital

Birmingham, and Birmingham Science Park Aston.

The hope is that, if successful, it will place the city in a

position to implement a 4G network at the "earliest opportunity"

in a bid to bring high-speed wireless

broadband to local businesses, schools, public sector

organisations, as well as consumers and residents.

"The ultra-fast connection speed and capabilities of

4G will be of vast benefit to all the technology and

gaming companies that are based at the Park, indeed

4G will provide a new platform for next-generation

mobile services and games, "says David Hardman,

managing director of Birmingham Science Park Aston.

UK Broadband says it's the country's largest

commercial holder of national 4G radio spectrum and

the firm's VP sales and marketing, Colin Winstone,

explains that Birmingham was selected because the

Canon has announced the EOS 60D DSLR Camera. The construction is of Polycarbonate resin with glass fibre on aluminum chassis and utilizing SD memory cards. Got 18MP CMOS sensor and 1040k dot 3.0" LCD including AF system. Meanwhile it has got the HD movie capability.

High speed, high resolution
With an 18 Megapixel APS-C sensor, the EOS 60D offers high levels of detail. The powerful DIGIC 4 technology rapidly processes image information captured from the CMOS sensor’s four-channel output, providing outstanding colour reproduction, and high-speed shooting at 5.3fps in bursts of 58 full-resolution JPEGs.

The ISO range of 100-6400 is extendable up to 12800, and provides smooth images with minimal noise in low light conditions. A 9-point, all cross-type autofocus (AF) system also provides accurate focusing, with an extra-sensitive centre point for lenses faster than f/2.8, allowing photographers to artistically employ a shallow depth of field during portraiture or for more atmospheric shooting.

The EOS 60D features Canon’s iFCL metering system, that was first introduced with the acclaimed EOS 7D, with a 63-zone Dual-Layer sensor. Information on subject location is gathered from the Auto Focus system, and is combined with colour and luminance readings for consistent accurate exposures whatever the situation. The Integrated Speedlite transmitter also provides in-camera control of multiple EX flash units for more creative lighting.

3.0" Vari-angle wide LCD that features a 3:2 aspect ratio, provide flexibility and allow photographers to view their images in full detail. Vari-angle wide LCD helps frame shots from difficult infact all angles. The ability to capture wildlife portraits, overhead shots or ground-level photography is instantly enhanced, and the surface of the screen features an anti-reflective, water-repellent coating to protect the screen allows easy viewing in bright light and from a variety of angles.

Full High Definition movies including full control
Instead of taking still it can also be used to make HD movies, where the EOS 60D captures 1920x1080p HD video, including 30, 25 and 24fps, as well as 720p video at 60 and 50fps. Movie Crop mode is also available, recording with the central 640x480 pixel area of the sensor to create an effective magnification of approximately seven times the focal length of the lens.

Full manual control in Movie mode allows you to employ your own exposure and focus settings. An external stereo microphone terminal and the ability to adjust sound recording level ensures the audio track recorded matches the visual quality of the video, capturing broadcast-quality sound.
