From the time Sony announced that it was publishing the latest version of its immensely popular gaming console, speculation remained high. The new PlayStation 4 is being launched at a time where there is increasing signs of a shift in mainstream gaming. The amount of mobile gaming being done has increased substantially over the last three years. As a matter of fact, there are pundits who believe that there is no need for new video gaming consoles. There have also been unsubstantiated rumors that Sony is going to slash the PlayStation 4 Price quite substantially. If charging is a problem, you might want to look into mobile phone battery recycling as a way of getting rid of a worn-out battery and replacing it with a new one.

Wherever possible, you should charge your cell phone battery until it is full and then disconnect it from the mains supply, which prevents it from overcharging and makes it more likely that the cell phone batteries will retain a full charge in the future.

You should also let your battery run as low as possible before charging it again, as this also helps the battery to discharge its full charge in future, before it needs to be plugged in again.

If your problem is one of storage space, there are a few things you can try to add some much-needed extra capacity to your phone.

New Phone Memory Cards might be able to expand your storage space seamlessly – simply slot one into the appropriate place in your mobile phone , and switch your handset back on.

If you’ve already got a memory card installed, it might be possible to copy the data on to a new, larger card with more free space still available.

And if that doesn’t work, check whether your phone’s manufacturer offers a data retrieval tool, that could allow you to back up contact names and numbers, photographs and text messages on to a computer or laptop.

Be realistic about how much of your data you need to carry with you – the more you can back up to a computer or external hard drive, the more free space you can free up on the phone itself.

Finally, give your phone’s fascia a spring clean – you might even want to replace the case completely, or add a clean new cover to it, if it’s seen better days.

If your phone’s fascia comes off, consider giving it a proper clean – if there’s no built-in electronics or speakers, for example, you should be able to wash the case in soapy water, provided that you let it dry thoroughly before putting your phone’s innards back into it.

Samsung Galaxy S4

As the new model hits stores around the globe, only time will tell if Galaxy S4 will live up to its expectations and be a game changer in the extremely smartphone market.

OS and interface

The Galaxy S4 runs on the Android 4.2.2 that supports a highly customized Touch Wiz interface. The new interface clearly shows Samsung has been keen to bulk the one-touch system icons (under the notifications shade). That’s not all, the Galaxy S4 has a simple settings menu that opens up separate screens for gestures, connections, keyboard settings, and accounts pane.

Performance

The Galaxy S4 takes the top spot for being the fastest and most powerful smartphone on the market at the moment.  The 1.9 GHz Snapdragon processor and a remarkable 2 GB of RAM makes it outperform most smartphones in the market. Galaxy S4 scored a combined score of 3232 for two standard benchmark suites tested on the cross platform Geekbench 2, which makes it faster than the new HTC One and iPhone 5 which managed 2712 and 1660 respectively.

On the AnTuTu Benchmark 3.3 for measuring graphics processing unit, Galaxy S4 outscored HTC one 24,995 to 22,512 while Galaxy Note 2 managed a paltry 12, 676. Though the S 4 comes with a bigger battery, it doesn’t seem to translate into longer battery life. You should expect up to 2 days battery life for moderate usage and certainly nothing longer than a week for light usage.

Hardware

There is an uncanny resemblance in the hardware of  S3 and S4 (that makes it difficult to differentiate) until you turn them on. The 5 inch screen on S4 is bigger slightly than S 3’s 4.8 inch.  Surprisingly, even with its large screen, Galaxy S4 frame comes out as slightly smaller and lighter than S3. Compared to HTC One, Galaxy S4’s 1080 super AMOLED screen is much brighter and more beautiful. It comes with a better color saturation and contrast.

Moving away from the screen, S4’s design is equally remarkable. Samsung seems keen to stick with a plastic back design and the single home key at the bottom that illuminates menu that fades when in standby mode. The executives argue that the plastic back offers greater flexibility to users (when removing/replacing battery and the memory) and the same argument goes for the S-View cover that acts as the replacement for back panel that comes with an integrated screen protector. The interesting part is you swipe and receive calls on the see through panel without opening your phone.

Galaxy S4 also strongly suggests that Samsung has not given up its quest for more megapixels. The S 4′s (built-in) back camera features a 13-megapixel sensor that takes some stunning shots and the magic behind this is a nifty software addition. Besides that, S4 also comes with a 2-megapixel front camera, intuitive sensors, and infrared blaster that doubles up as a remote control for your TV and AV gear. The camera also allows you to shoot multiple speeds (fast and slow motion) and merge the feed from rear and front cameras into a single composed shot.

Software

Samsung took a bold step to clean and reorganize the TouchWiz UI that overlays Android Jelly Bean.  Samsung has also expanded the Group Play in S4 to support collaboration on PDF, Word Docs, PowerPoint, and games and also the set of instant icons in the notifications panel.  Without much ado, let’s look at some of the nifty features that puts S4 Galaxy in a class of its own.

Air Gesture Function is one nifty feature that gives Galaxy S4 an edge over other smartphones. It uses infrared sensors that detect sweeping motions a few inches away from the screen. The ultrasensitive feature allows you to answer a call, scroll your photo gallery, and move up/down a page without touching the screen. Samsung has also been keen to replicate the Air view feature (incorporated in the Galaxy Note Series) to allows users to to peek at e-mails and calendar items by hovering their fingers on specific entries.

Another remarkable feature is the UI trifecta eye-tracking technology that captures your vision as you look at the screen. If you are a watching a video and you turn away you gaze, the video will pause. Similarly, you can scroll a page by tilting your head. The gee-whiz features will take your breath away momentarily, no doubt about that, but then again,  the smart screen tech  may also turn out to be a menace as it is more jumpy.

The ingenious music share feature is yet another remarkable and timely inclusion. You can use I to assign different phones within a group the role of playing the right and left channel speakers.  But, this is only limited to other S4 devices. Fortunately, Samsung is keen to update the Galaxy devices notably S3 and Note 2 to increase the sharing and participation capacities.

Conclusion

Though the Galaxy S4 is not entirely breath taking like the gorgeous HTC One or the elegant iPhone 5, it sharper edges gives it a more premium look than the S3. Nonetheless, it has a comfortable, sleek, and attractive frame. Though the new smartphone carries some unmistakable features of the SIII (notably wide screen & slim package), it is slowly proving itself to a different breed in its own right.

What is the Future of Television?

Resolution

One thing that’s been steadily increasing over the years is resolution. Recent years have seen the famous “720p” resolution that tends to be twice as intense as more traditional resolutions. So much so that people refer to it as “HD” or “high definition.” After that, the “1080P” was an even bigger step up. This refers to how many pixels are used within the frame.

Even more recently, we have yet another label to add to the television lexicon, “Ultra High Definition” which refers to even higher resolutions such as 8 megapixels. Soon this will go even higher into the 32 megapixels range and higher

So the question remains, exactly how far will it go? Is there a limit? While it’s hard to tell exactly how high televisions will go in their current form, it seems unlikely that the technology will remain in its current form forever.

New Forms for TV

For example, one way television might change is by traveling outside of your TV and onto glasses on your face. Is it really necessary to have giant, bulky screens when you can view any television you want through Augmented Reality glasses such as with the Google Glass project?

Or, alternatively why not flexible television? If miniaturization has its way, televisions could become so advanced that they can fit into flexible material similar to that of plastic. You could have televisions that curve around the room, or that fill an entire wall.

Perhaps in the future, we will be folding up our televisions and placing them in our pockets like a map. It would certainly make them considerably more portable than now. Another trend in televisions is how they are all turning into computers. You’d be hard pressed to find a seriously high grade television that doesn’t have some aspects of a computer built into it already these days, such as hookups for VGA for connecting to a computer. It’s likely that in the future this trend will only continue.

3D

One of the most popular science fiction tropes is the 3 dimensional hologram. This occurs in franchises from Star Wars to Iron Man. To some degree this technology is already available, albeit in relatively simple forms. There are already so called “3D” movies, although they just give the illusion of 3 dimensions. Holograms like the famous one that was done for Tupac Shakur where images actually seem to be separate from any medium like a television screen may very well become more pronounced in the future, assuming that we don’t end up just watching everything on glasses or even contact lenses or implants, eventually.

After all, manufacturing giant glass televisions screens when you can make the same effect in contact lenses like a tiny smart-phone in your eye is just wasteful.
