Duplicate Content nicely moving up at Digg

As usual I was digging the most interesting stories on the tech category page, what strikes me a duplicate entry which has the same heading, pointing to same link, submitted the same time, and more shocked to see that both the links got almost same clicks (81 and 83, at the time of writing this post) the only difference is that both are submitted by different user. They are nicely moving up along on the front page of the (tech section).

How this happen and why Digg algorithm didn’t noticed? What about the people who clicked those links? Didn’t any of them noticed duplicate content and make the links appeared in the most Digged section? Or did they done it explicitly or what?

Google Chrome started to adding patches within 1st week of launch

The most hyped browser (Chrome) from Google started to add security patches within 3-4 days of its launch. The known vulnerabilities are

vulnerability in handling long file names,

vulnerability in dealing with the Web site addresses displayed in Chrome's status area when the user hovers over a link.

Other issues are
JavaScript problem with Facebook
problem suggesting search terms while using various Web sites;
and data-transer issues with the Safe Browsing mode.

It’s been mashup mushrooming all over the web.

This time is Mibazaar, who come up with something interesting. They have created “Google Trends Live Mapping” on Google Map based on Google Trends, the map shows the latest burning topics live on a Google Map. The trend continuously updates the map with the latest hot topics searched in the Google.

Another interesting Google Maps mashup is Google Maps Realtime Site Stats - just add your website and get the real time stats of your website.

Firefox3 is off the shelf (unofficially)

Though official release of FireFox3 is still few hours away, there are few links on web sphere from where you can download it (Mozilla Servers).

Apply new face to your Orkut pages

One of the world largest (according to techcrunch) social network website, Orkut, finally has added much awaited facility, Themes. There are 12 themes provided to choose from.
If you want to change your theme just follow the following steps and add some eye-catching touch to your pages.
1. After Logging into your orkut account, click on “Edit Profile” option

2. Click on theme’s Tab

3. Select the Theme from given options (total 12)

4. Click on update

5. New theme in action

You have successfully applied the new them to your orkut pages, now all your friends and family members can see your new theme.

Adobe has launched Acrobat.com, an online workplace for people to create, generate and share the documents online; much like the Google’s doc or Microsoft’s office live.

There are rumors going around yahoo being acquired by Microsoft.
If the deal is success, this takeover would be one of the largest IT corporate takeovers. By the way anyone guessed what would be the logo of Yahoo after taking over? While taking this in mind we have created a very interesting new logo of yahoo/Microsoft (or mYcrosoft).

Wordpress, one of the best blogging software, has released a new version Wordpress 2.3.3 for download. Wordpress urges everyone who uses Wordpress should upgrade to it because there are some serious security issues that this upgrade would patch.

“A flaw was found in Wordpress XML-RPC implementation such that a specially crafted request would allow any valid user to edit posts of any other user on that blog.”

Access Gmail accounts in Outlook Express

Do you want to configure your email client (outlook express/thunderbird) to retrieve Gmail account?

In October Google started the POP, IMAP services; you no more need any browsers (IE, Firefox, Opera etc) to read or write you email messages. You can directly access them using your email client, for example using Outlook Express 6.

Configure Outlook Express 6 to access your Emails:

To configure your outlook to access Gmail account follows the steps:

1. In the outlook Express 6 Click the “Tools” menu, and select “Accounts”
2. Click on “Add”, and click “Mail”
3. Enter name in the Display name, click “Next”
4. In the Email address, Enter Gmail email address, click Next
5. Select “IMAP” For My incoming mail server
6. Enter “imap.gmail.com” in the Incoming mail
7. Enter “smtp.gmail.com” in the Outgoing mail, Click Next
8. Enter your Gmail username in the Account name
9. Enter your Gmail password in the Password, and click Next

Retrieving email first time

When you first time access to Gmail account using Outlook Express 6, it will ask you to download all the folder structure from Gmail mail server. Allow it to download otherwise it will not download messages from server.

Remove unnecessary icons from System Tray

Do you have a lot of (unwanted) icons in the System Tray?
Do you want to remove them from System Tray?

When you install new application i.e. Messenger, Winamp, Real Player etc. most of them add a System Tray icons (bottom right corner of your screen).

They are there to represent programs that can either be started quickly or are running in the background. Some icons are simple to remove, just right click them and click something that mean “exit”. But few of them can be difficult to get rid of.

Why do you want to remove them?
Most probably there are two (may be more) reasons you want to remove them
You are like me, who like to keep the desktop clean and clear and want to execute program when they need
speed up the process of starting the windows quickly (because as I said earlier these are suppose to run in the background thus slows downs the process of starting windows)

To clear the icons, first check your Startup menu (Start -> All Programs -> Startup). This folder contains applications that start automatically when you start Windows (and create System Tray icons).

Simply delete unwanted applications from this folder, it will automatically remove, icons associated with the application from System Tray.

OR

Using “MSconfig” utility:
Go to (Start -> Run -> type “msconfig” and hit enter key) you will taken to a window, which looks like below image:

You will see a list of running application in the background (system tray icons).
Each application has a Checkbox, Uncheck the ones that you don’t want to start and click on either “Apply” or “OK” button. (Double check which ones you choose to disable as there are some key programs that need to there to run automatically. For example, the first 4 entries are related to antivirus application and should not be removed)

Note: You will asked to restart the system after making any changes to msconfig, after restart (if you don’t restart the PC, next time you start the computer) you will get a popup window letting you know the changes you made using msconfig utility.
