And for those on A5 devices, they suggest,

A5(X) Baseband Preservation/Hacktivation?
For those running A5(X) devices and need to preserve your baseband, there is nothing you can do at the moment. For those wanting to hacktivate, the only advice I can give is to buy the carrier’s SIM (the one its locked to obviously) on ebay. The SIM does not have to be active with the carrier to activate the phone.

This update came after the release of iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak. So rumors are in that this might actually be Apple’s way of making the recent jailbreak useless, so upgrading without solid information wouldn’t really be worth the risk since it’s just an minor update.

However, people also are making point that it wouldn’t be much big of a deal since Apple wouldn’t bother releasing a hurdle to jailbreak in such small scale.

Yahoo has launched Axis, an app designed to enhance searches. With the help of this app, Yahoo is probably looking to grab some major share in the browser and search market. The app is currently available for iOS devices and as add-on for desktop browsers like IE, Firefox, Safari and Chrome.

As per the company the app has been designed with the vision how users searches over the internet. On mobile devices, with the help of the app, the results are displayed in thumbnails, the images of the actual website which is a great pull-up factor. And with increasing percentage of the average spending time of the users over phones and tablets, the app has quite positive reviews for the mobile version.

The mobile browser, Axis has flip back and forth features between web page and search results for users. The app also lets the users to bookmark their searches and integrate with Pinterest. Axis can be integrated among multiple devices. Means, you can save your searches and personal homepage on your tablet, phone and desktops. Along with all these features the tool’s main page shows ‘trending’ searches.

To sum-up, Axis is a visual-rich tool aiming to combine searching and browsing into one experience. The app is expected to make search more convenient.

Google won’t be just internet giant further. Google now has something up for smartphone industry too. The internet giant officially took over Motorola Mobility. Along with the smartphones, Google now owns 17.000 patents too. This may be something Apple should really worry about.

Apple may be threatening Google with their iPhone 5 and iOS 6 but it seems Google is ready to strike back with this $12,5 billion worth takeover. Google is well known as a software company and now they are in the hardware market too. May be Google is willing to power up their Android Eco-system.

Have a look at what Google’s CEO Parry Page says about the takeover:

It’s a well known fact that people tend to overestimate the impact technology will have in the short term, but underestimate its significance in the longer term. Many users coming online today may never use a desktop machine, and the impact of that transition will be profound—as will the ability to just tap and pay with your phone. That’s why it’s a great time to be in the mobile business, and why I’m confident Dennis and the team at Motorola will be creating the next generation of mobile devices that will improve lives for years to come.

Along with this takeover, we can make sure how serious is Google. There is some intense battle and it’s clear in vision now. Previously, Google may have been seen supporting their partner in the patent war against Apple. But along with this acquisition, Google has armored itself for the battlefield and probably is already feeling way stronger.

Which internet browser do you prefer most? Chrome, Internet Explorer? The choice may be close one. The statistics are also to much complicated too decide a clear winner. A couple of days ago, Chrome had indexes in its favor making it the top browser. But as per the few past hours statistics, the story is changing the track.

As per the most recent statistics for StatCounter IE took back its position with just few decimal difference. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer has edged out Google’s Chrome by 32.41% to 32.13%. Google Chrome might have lost the kingship that it acquired couple of days ago, but the rise in indexes are very much impressive. If we follow up the statistics from April 2011 to April 2012, we can see continuous fall in the share of IE with just a little rise in the month of October/November. While there’s remarkable rise in Chrome’s statistics. IE explorer had 44.52% market share as per the statistics of April 2011 while it ended at 34.07% by April 2012. On the other hand Chrome’s numbers rose from 18.29% to 31.23%. By this we can see how popular is Chrome getting. Get a clear look from the chart below.

Stat: April 2011 to April 2012

Most Recent Weekly Stat

But statistics from other sources have different story to tell. As per the statistics of hitslink, IE is still on the throne with a bigger margin. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer has total market share of 54% followed up by Firefox 20% leaving Chrome at third position with 19%. So, it’s really hard to think which data is the reliable one. But as the days are passing and based on growing popularity of Chrome, there’s certainly some intense battle between Google and Microsoft’s browsers.

Didn’t someone say Bigger is better? If you are one of those, and would love an extra sized phone in your pocket, rumor town might have something interesting for you all.

Apparently, Apple has been testing new iPhones with 3.95 inch (almost 4 inches) and 1136 x 640 display screens. And well, this isn’t even a new rumor. This has been going around for quite a while now that Apple may bring an increase in the sizes.

And not just the phone, news are on about the dock connectors too, sleek ones! “Pill Shaped”, if rumors are to be believed. It’s going to be a much narrower version of the current squared off (on the corners) dock connector and between the size of a Micro-USB and Mini-USB connector.

The source , Mac Rumors has a mixed reputation when it comes to rumors like this. For some a larger iPhone would be great! For some, it would mean unnecessary pocket space and awkward shape.

But then again, Apple might just be faking in rumors to prevent the real thing from leaking out. After all, we do know Apple enough to know how it likes functioning in secret now, don’t we?

There’s no doubt the social networks have acquired an important part of our lives and we cannot remain away connecting from them. For sure Facebook is an inseparable term if we ever talk about social networks. Various tech biggies tried their hard to compete with Facebook, but Zuckerberg’s network seems to be growing stronger and stronger. Google introduced Google+ but couldn’t replace Facebook from the top spot. Now, another tech giant, Microsoft has launched it’s own social network, So.cl

So.cl was in talks from December but has been recently unleashed from beta testing. Microsoft has come up with a different approach for So.cl which makes it unique than other networks. As per the Microsoft, So.cl is an “experimental research project” rather than a product. With So.cl, Microsoft aims to combine Web browsing, search, and social-networking to allow students to share materials (search results) for academic purposes.

So, the new social network So.cl is simply a combination of both the search engine and a social network. As stated above, this can be good platform for the students and is also available for students only as of now. The users can log on to the network via Facebook or Windows live. Every data you post on the network will be public. The information page of the site clearly mentions all the aims of the project.

But the final point which we should consider is competition. Lots of social networks are in a lost state as the Facebook came over to trend. Facebook is an undisputed name in the market which compels everyone to think “will So.cl stand strong enough to compete with Facebook?”
