IBM To Buy RIM

Research in Motion [RIM] which was once steering its way to become a top Smart phone company is now in decline. Earlier this year RIM announced that it had the biggest revenue drop since nine years, which resulted in reducing staffs and many moved to different companies including Samsung. RIM has lost market share continuously to Apple. IPhone and Android phones made decline of profit and share value of RIM. Its time for RIM "to go". Who can be a potential buyer?

RIM after loosing market share launched BB7 OS which was not so successful. Earlier this year they announced QNX/BB10 phones, which is not hitting the market anytime this year. RIM spokesperson said that QNX based devices will be launched when dual core processors are available and earlier this month RIM said that processor needed to run QNX devices will be available only in next years. No wonder if you would think QNX is a kind of resource hungry desktop OS. QNX is a real time embedded OS. If they cannot work it on previous generation processors, they have no hope.

Amazon

Amazon buying RIM is not very likely. Amazon have huge fan base and sells many kindle reader every day. If buying RIM , Amazon could user their patent and hardware resources. Amazon have already put considerable resources behind its own flavor of Android, which is heavily customized to the point where it is unrecognizable. Amazon doesn't need to inherent the old BB7 platform, and likely would not know what to do with QNX/BB10. Its unclear how, or if, Amazon would mash up the Kindle with the BlackBerry.

Microsoft

Microsoft with its new Windows 7 OS is struggling to gain market share which is dominated by Apple's ios and Google's Android. Another platform to survive in the ever growing battle between ios and Android is less likely. Microsoft already have a partnership with Nokia and rumor suggest that Microsoft is in talks to buy Nokia's smart phone division. It is sure that Microsoft would not want to jeopardize that because of RIM. Having Nokia at your side is much better for business than RIM

IBM

IBM can be a potential buyer with a market cap of $200 billion. There is no problem for IBM to pay for RIM, either in stocks or a combination of cash and stocks. Being both a software and hardware company, IBM's culture should be much more compatible with RIM than any other potential acquirers. More importantly, IBM can acquire RIM for its strong bonds with enterprises, and forget about the continuous competition with Apple and Google in the consumer market, a loosing proposition so far. This acquisition will surely give RIM a lifeline in the ever growing smart phone industry, and solidify IBM's entries in IT departments of almost all large corporations. Finally, IBM have the chance to reclaim its leadership in enterprise communcation software over Microsoft's Exchange by integrating RIM and providing a viable mobile platform for enterprises on both client and server sides.

RIM did same mistake as of Nokia did it with Symbian platform. Delaying of QNX platform is further adding to its miseries. IBM is getting more and more out of hardware and wants to stick more with services and that is where they made their turnaround. IBM will find the hardware and the patents circus interesting and worthy enough to get into.

Klout raises $30 million founding round, what is there business model?

Klout, the platform that measures your influence on various social network just raised $30 million. This is interesting since Klout has been derided and ignored by the masses for the last few years. It essentially measures your engagement with others on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Tumblr, and other networks with more to be added soon. This engagement includes likes, retweets, shares, and comments among other things. This makes up your Klout score.

Klout also measures certain topics you have a high Klout score according to Klout in the field of technology. They measure this through likes, comments, and other types of engagement. While Klout does have some intrigue as a business, it does seem to be easily gamed. For example someone could just put up a post about politics, religion, or maybe Android vs. ios, which is a topic guaranteed to start flame wars almost anywhere online.

In one sign of value, 10 billion api calls are being made for Klout a month. This means developers want access to Klouts application programming interface to make apps. Twitter has a very large community of developers, and Klout looks like it is on a path in this direction. Klout also just announced a mobile component coming soon. This company has a lot of momentum right now, it will come down to tweaking their algorithms to get people to trust peoples Klout scores. This could have ramifications for employers, and others who are researching people online.

Despite that, I could see Klout making inroads for business pages for Facebook, Twitter, and especially Google+. They could maybe offer analytics that are not yet available through these services. If a buyout is not what Klout is possibly trying to accomplish, maybe a business model using this data for the various enterprises that will inevitable have social media presences. This in addition to ads could be a big business for Klout. They just may have to hurry before the major social networks implement their own version of the data Klout scrapes from their platforms.

Apple plans mysterious end of January event

Apple is planning to make an announcement later this month to the press in New York City that is rumored to be focused on iBooks and the publishing industry. This move seems to be in part a reaction to Amazon's success with the Kindle Fire and the supported e-book sales ecosystem. They maybe making improvements to the reading experience by offering night reading mode, and maybe a mode to duplicate the Kindle's e-ink experience.

It could also be something along the lines of a vastly improved magazine interface. Maybe with innovation in the interactive iAds. In my opinion, the future of books will not only be digital, but will be multimedia. With sound, video, and even interactive elements. Think of the next Dan Brown book having an optional video game chapter, or being able to easily toggle between reading and listening to the audiobook at the same page of the book you switched media formats on.

This would also bring about people legally obtaining these pieces of multimedia for free, since they could easily imbed ads into the videos and interactive games. Rampant piracy isn't going anywhere, but if you could have this new version of book consumption available free and ad-supported, it is a win-win. There could also be an optional no ad version premium version for a fee.

People may complain about the ads, but this is how Facebook, Google, Twitter, and many other huge internet companies make billions in revenue. Ads are also all over console video games like Madden, and the Fight Night series. They could implement location based ads also, one thing that is more limited on the desktop. I think Apple revolutionize e-reading just like they did music with Itunes, and tablet computing with the Ipad. Amazon and Jeff Bezos will be watching closely, since they maybe disrupted radically.

What could be some of the possible features behind Airtime, Sean Parker and Shawn Fannings secretive startup?

Sean Parker and Shawn Fanning, the two creators of Napster have reunited for another start up based around video chat. Airtime (previously called Supyo) has raised a total of 8.3 million dollars in venture capital from Founders Fund, Accel Partners, Andreessen Horowitz, Yuri Milner, Ron Conway, Marissa Mayer, Ashton Kutcher, will.i.am, Scott Braun, and TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington.

Fanning, whom coded Napster, will be CEO, while Parker will be executive chairman. While not much is known about this start up, Parker has released a few details in recent interviews.

Airtime seems to be influenced by Chatroullette, with the founder Andrey Ternovskiy being briefly advised by Parker. The former Facebook president said that it barely scratched the surface of what it could be, which is smashing people together.

Although Chatroullette was based on people randomly being thrown into video chats, Airtime is likely to be based around peoples interests, regardless if they have met offline. I anticipate this being a very successful service, especially if it launches soon. While Hangouts on Google Plus is great for bringing people whom have not met into 1 on 1 and up to 10 person group video chats, it is still network based to a large extent. The interest graph has not been nailed yet on a mainstream scale.

If Airtime offers 1 on 1 video chatting as well as an optional group video chat while integrating data from both Facebook and Twitter, I could see it being a worthy competitor to G+ Hangouts. It seems like Facebook having their video chat being limited to only 1 on 1 chats because it is powered by Skype may be a big disadvantage with the release of G+ Hangouts. If Airtime can fill the gap and be a worthy alternative to G+ Hangouts as well as all of the other group video chat services including Stickam, Tinychat, Skype and others, it should gain traction relatively quickly

The key could be peoples interest data through other social networks being brought into the fold through algorithms that could match people up by their Facebook likes in addition to who and what they follow on Twitter. Maybe even Foursquare check-ins and other location based services data could be used to match people up in video chats. This site could also be huge and very profitable since the market for people you don't know will always be bigger than who you do know. If they efficiently monetize this, Airtime could be the next big internet sensation.

Another factor could be live podcasting. With Google Plus just now starting to offer Hangouts on air which allows you to publicly stream your Hangouts to Youtube, and services such as Ustream and Livestream having substantial userbases, this is another market that Airtime could get into. Maybe concerts being offered live in a pay-per-view format, with maybe even music streaming service Spotify, for which Parker is an investor, being heavily integrated into the service, or having famous personalities broadcast interactions with fans, which has already happened on G+ successfully.

Lastly, I could also see Airtime having an online gaming element. With Fannings experience building Rupture, which was a social media based online gaming company, they could possibly make gaming a part of or even a main feature of Airtime. EA bought Rupture for $30 million so maybe the market for heavy social media integration into online gaming is ready for massive expansion. Services such as Onlive and Gaikai, which are completely streaming based gaming, forming partnerships with major gaming companies, Airtime may have a huge market to tackle. Between Fanning and Parker, two of the most disruptive and innovative creators in tech, many different services and markets from music to gaming, could be disrupted by the public release of this service.

Why Google extended search deal with Firefox

Firefox signs deal worth USD $900 million with Google to be default search engine for browser.

Google and Firefox have just extended their partnership that keeps Google as the default search engine for Firefox. It is believed that Google wants to keep Microsoft from making a similar deal for Bing, their so-called decision engine.

This deal is worth $300 million a year for 3 years. Google also pays out similar fees to be the default search engine for Opera and Safari. While these deals could be looked at as helping Chrome’s competition, it actually is profitable for Google since they will redirect more people towards their AdSense partners.

Facebook Wishing All A Spammy Christmas

Its Christmas and Facebook is wishing all the FB users SPAMMY CHRISTMAS. There were lots of spam attacks in Facebook and recent issue which was taken down by Facebook which hurt religious sentiments of Muslims around the world.

Now the world has started celebrating Christmas which is 4 days away from now. And Facebook is helping its users to get involved in this celebration by saying bye - bye to their old Blue and White Facebook theme to a new Christmas theme. Sounds Wow !

Even though I completely stopped using Facebook, i still have friends in Facebook and gets random messages. Just to Check these messages i logged in and found that there are over 12 notifications from a friend lone. I found that i was tagged among 28 others and found on each post i was tagged with different people. Just to know whats happening I logged in on laptop and checked profile and found that her wall is full of spam messages prompting her friends to click so they will also get the new Christmas theme.

Just to know exactly what this new Christmas Theme spam is , i visited the page and found nothing but a link redirecting to some other page . You can see there are 24k likes for that page, means 24k users accounts are compromised due to this spam . And at the time when i was checking the Spam page it was well over 25k users and spreading at a fast pace.

Facebook recently rolled out the new Facebook Timeline feature and my timeline is full of my friend's spam messages and i now have another reason to hate Facebook. I am very happy the way Google+ is taking on the spam with implementing new features .

Google+ Taking On Flickr?

Google+ is adding lots of features this week and will see a revamped Google+ in coming days. Google+ is growing in every department and my last article was about how Google plus is taking on Facebook. Google+ din't showed any growth after the quick rise to 50 million user base and there were doubts whether the signed up 50 millions user were active or not. Now it is certain that there are more active users in Google+ than anyone would have imagined.

Google+ user base is seeing a slow and steady rise , maybe because people are tired of the blue and white social network Facebook or tired of 160 letters limit of Twitter. Google+ was first know as rival to Facebook and Twitter. Now I feel its taking on almost everything on web. Its too early to judge but i do feel that "down in the dumps" Yahoo's Flickr is being targeted by Google+ and its revamped Photos.

Flickr is an image hosting and video hosting website, web services suite, and online community that was created by Ludicorp in 2004 and acquired by Yahoo! in 2005. In addition to being a popular website for users to share and embed personal photographs, the service is widely used by bloggers to host images that they embed in blogs and social media. Yahoo reported in June 2011 that Flickr had a total of 51 million registered members and 80 million unique visitors.In August 2011 the site reported that it was hosting more than 6 billion images and this number continues to grow steadily according to reporting sources.

Talking about Yahoo which is currently in bad shape and rumors spread that Microsoft and Google is bidding to buy Yahoo. A new CEO, seacrh tie up with bing and Yahoo is doing everything to be in the search business . Yahoo mail , Messenger and Flickr are the three features that keeps Yahoo alive. Flickr almost matches with the number of registered user Google+ have. Flickr have attracted more photographer to join and share photos to public. Google's Picasa meanwhile was not as successful as Flickr in adding more Photographer to its pocket. Everybody found Flickr to be the right platform for Photo lovers. 500px.com is a Flickr like photo sharing website is now posing threat to Flickr.

Google+'s user base has huge number of photographers and increasing day by day. People are getting more engaged to Google+ were they get instant review or comment of their photos or with the new hangout feature enabled for posts allows the photographers to hangout with their critics in no time. Also when talked with a group of photographers in my circle , they are very happy to be on Google+ and they are now been noticed like never before. Its because of the openness Google+ gave it to its platform which has significantly increased sharing in Google+. This is were difference of Google+ photos and Flickr comes. Google+ is socializing and Yahoo can't because they don't have a social platform. I think its the best time to sell Yahoo before it goes bankrupt.

How Google Plus Is Gaining Ground In Social Networking

This is not a fairy tale. This is my social Life. Internet has become an integral part of each and everyone. I started using Internet based social networking from year 2006. Orkut was my first social desination followed by Facebook and ended up in Google plus.

Orkut

I signed up for Orkut in 2006. I was easy to to use and got adopted to it in matter of days. Orkut had everything that current social networks like Facebook and Google plus have but there was no status update option . Later status update option was added but it was too last as most orkut users was migrated to Facebook. Even though facebook beat Orkut globally, India and Brazil remained Orkut's stronger region. As for that one reason ,Orkut gave India and Brazil their own domains. orkut.co.in and orkut.co.br . Orkut had photo sharing option at its very beginning but no apps like in as Facebook. By the time orkut made apps and other features like in Facebook its time was already up.

Myspace

I used Myspace in early 2007 and found its not social as it seems and never tried to log in to it again. As per the new reports Myspace is now not in the Top 10 social networks .

Facebook

In early 2008 i signed up for Facebook. As Orkut was ruling India I found none of my friends in there. It was very confusing and used to scratch back of my head everytime i log in to facebook. By the end of the year 2008 i found most of my friends moved to facebook dumping orkut as everyone was getting bored with it. Orkut changed its design to what it looks like Facebook's but went in vein . It couldn't just stop people from migrating to facebook. So it took a bit of time but eventually get used to facebook and apps like farmville made users stick to facebook. Then in year 2011 they started rolling out new fetaures and yesterday the new TIMELINE feature. I had a taste of timeline featture before by using developer version app. Timeline is feature which i'm totally against . Facebook wants every bit of user's information and i

don't feel safe there anymore. 800 Million user base is strong, but i feel grow of facebook is in decline because of the new

Google Plus

I was one of the early adopters of Google plus the very first day it launched on a field testing phase. I send invite to my friends and sudden found the Hype was Google plus . Everywhere talks is on Google plus. Google plus for me was one of the most confusing social networking website ever i have been to. I was usig both Facebook and google plus simulatneously . And slowly found my love to Google plus. Unlike facebook we can actually delete our profile in Google plus. Since last 1 month i hardly visited my Facebook and then i knew it was the time. I deactivated Facebook. I love this new social networking website. A great platform to showcase your inner talent.

When in facebook i'm just Sharuque Moideen and in Google plus i'm +Sharuque Moideen. That + really shows whats me on Google plus. Google plus is going to be the best social netwrok in the world. Like how Orkut was taken down by facebook, Google+ will also going to take down facebook in coming years.

Google Chorme 15 is Now The Most Popular Browser In The World

Another one bites the dust. Guess who? Internet explorer. The lastest version of chrome browser outdone IE8 to be become the most popular desktop web browser in the wrold as per the dats's provided by Statscounter.com.

Chrome 15 now has 24.55% of the market share beating IE8 which has 22.16% market share and Firefox 8.0 have 15.54% market share whose 84% revenue comes from its partnership with google . These are based on the browser verions and not a browser as alone. So when we take all versions of IE together , it hold 38.50% market share which was slighty above 40% in last month and Google chrome is currently at 27.08% and firefox being stable at 25.55. Google chrome grew nearly 2% hurting the IE's market share.

Since IE is the default browser on every windows activated PC , it clearly dominates the browser war at least for now. I get random text messages saying IE is the best browser in the world .... for downloading Google chrome and Firefox and soon it will be a reality , but i am afraid if firefox would ever exist by that time.

Firefox and IE tried to match Google chrome by its looks and I still feel both bowsers are heavy to load and is not as fast as Google Chrome is. Firefox was critisized for adopting Google Chrome's 6 week update plan which will bring new features and performance improvements to the browser. Firefox when starting doing 6 week cycle of update it nearly messed everything and each time firefox updates the apps needs to updated and I would say FireFoxFail[ FFF].

Cuando se le preguntó sobre el número de redes sociales los usuarios son en, me pareció que fuera de los 50 usuarios sólo 20 prefiere utilizar G + y 20 con otras plataformas como Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, Foursquare y Linked In. Y de descanso de 10 usuarios se aburren de sus redes sociales y quieren establecerse en G +.

The Rise And Rise Of Google Plus

Google+ was launched on June 28 ,2011 in a field testing phase before it opened it to public later that year on Sept 20. There was insane demand to get G+ invite and even the invite went on sale on eBay and amazon. Google+ came with lots of features including hangouts, sparks[which is now known as what's hot] and circles. Along with the G+ launch they also launched mobile apps for android ad ios . G+ is the fastest social network to reach 50m user base.Is google+ a growing threat to the 800m user base of facebook?

Google+ has more than 50m user base and its till in doubt that whether users are visiting or bouncing back to their old social network. So i have decided to have a quick and short survey among 50 G+ user from 20 different countries . I have asked 4 questions among the users and have analyzed their statements and made data with that.

For me Google+ is beyond the conventional social networking engine, it is a lot more intelligent than the others. It has really become a knowledge engine, and I spent a great deal of time reading posts, opening additional content, and sharing more than I have ever done before. I had a great time collecting opinions and comments from the users and found that on average each users spend more than 2 hr/day on Google+ and people like Matty john , Suzy Abraham and Christy Mathew finds more than 5 hrs a day on Google+ reading posts, commenting and sharing. When asked about how many social networks the users are into , i found that off the 50 users 20 prefers only to use G+ and 20 are using other platforms like twitter, tumblr, Facebook, foursquare and linked In. And rest 10 user are getting bored of their social networks and want to settle down in G+ .

On average each people has at least 1000 people in their circle which is more than enough to stay online on G+ for long. And found that 28 of 50 people did hangout once or more and 10 users never tried google hangout feature or unaware of this feature or ended up in a wrong place to hangout like work place. 12 of the users wants to try out hangout and will soon be doing.

Multiple User Support For Google Chrome is Live

Now let me make it clear to all of you. I don't know internet explorer, Firefox,opera, safari or any other browser. For me there is only one browser exists. Google chrome. I used to travel a lot from places to places and most time it is not possible to carry my laptop, have to stick with my Galaxy tab. I miss chrome. I wish Chrome cant be ported to Android as well.

Since i am travelling i have to use different computers and i hate using someone else's Chrome browser because of their personal bookmarks and the apps which is completely different from what i have and is totally unusable. I'm using both chrome [stable] and Canary [developer] versions and have seen the developer version supports the multiple user sing in for long and was waiting for it to arrive on stable version and today it happened. With the latest update of Google chrome it has multiple user sign in feature. I'm gonna love it. Now i can move faster ,easier and happier.

This new feature allows user to create a profile of their own and sign in with their account which will automatically sync your apps, extensions bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings including your favorite theme. That makes a lot of chrome users happy. This comes in handy when you have only one PC at home and everybody wants to use their own personalized Google chrome. Look at the video for more information.

Google+ Quietly Rolls Out Changes to Chat

Google plus team has been busy all this week and I see that there are gonna get busy even more. Google+ has been integrating with google services namely gmail, picasa, reader and yesterday blogger. Google wants a single profile to rule all our google services which i feel is a smart move.

Latest of this development is the new chat skin which google quitely rolled out. I don't know how many of you people have noticed it. Google has gone from the darker green to lighter and bright green which to is pleasing to my eyes. Have a look at the revamped chat skin below.

Blogger Joins Google Plus Race

After Gmail , Picasa now its Blogger getting G+ integration. The new Google+ integration with Bloggers allows single google profile to maintain all google services , Easy sharing of posts in G+ and makes the blogger visible in the search results and can be added easily to the circles.

It is a nice move from google and is expected . More google services will be integrated to Google profile soon and one profile will rule them all. Android 1.5 Cupcake

Classic cupcakes

Traditional cupcakes are always a crowd-pleaser. Exercise your creative muscle by decorating these cupcakes to suit your mood.

Makes

Ingredients

2 cups self-raising flour, sifted
3/4 cup caster sugar
3/4 cup milk
125g butter, melted, cooled
2 x 59g eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon Queen Natural Vanilla Essence
Sprinkles and lollies, to decorate
Icing
1 1/2 cups pure icing sugar
Pink food colouring, optional
1 to 1 1/2 tablespoons water

Method

Preheat oven to 200°C. Grease a 12 x 1/3-cup capacity muffin pan. Alternatively, line holes with paper cases. Combine flour and caster sugar in a bowl. Make a well in the centre.
Add milk, butter, eggs and vanilla to flour mixture. Using a large metal spoon, stir gently to combine.
Spoon mixture into prepared muffin pan. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. Stand in pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool.
Make icing: Sift icing sugar into a bowl. Add food colouring and water. Stir until smooth and well combined. Spoon icing over cupcakes. Decorate with sprinkles and lollies.

Android 1.6 Donut

Equipment

Youâ€™ll need a 35cm round cake board.

Ingredients (serves 20)

Plain flour, for dusting
2 x 340g packets golden buttercake
4 eggs
120g butter, softened
1 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup raspberry jam
1/2 cup thickened cream, whipped
1/3 cup 100s and 1000s
Chocolate icing
200g dark chocolate, chopped
1/3 cup thickened cream

Method

Preheat oven to 180°C/160°C fan-forced. Liberally grease two 6cm deep, 23cm (top) round fluted cake pans. Dust with flour.
Make packet cakes following packet directions. Pour half the batter into 1 prepared pan. Pour remaining batter into remaining pan. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the centre of 1 cake comes out clean. Turn cakes onto 2 wire racks lined with baking paper, without removing cake pans. Stand for 10 minutes. Carefully lift pans from cakes. Cool. Turn cakes over. Trim tops of each cake to level.
Make chocolate icing. Place chocolate and cream in a heatproof, microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high (100%) for 1 to 2 minutes or until smooth, stirring halfway during cooking with metal spoon.
Place 1 cake, cut-side up, onto cake board. Spread top with jam. Top with cream. Place remaining cake, cut-side down, on top of cream layer. Drizzle with chocolate icing. Sprinkle with 100s and 1000s. Set aside for 10 minutes to set. Serve.

Android 2.0/2.1 -Eclair

For a sweet twist on traditional chocolate eclairs, dress them up in pretty pastel colours and add a splash of rosewater essence.

Preparation Time

20 minutes

Cooking Time

40 minutes

Ingredients (serves 8)

125ml (1/2 cup) water
50g unsalted butter, chilled
65g plain flour, sifted
Pinch of salt
2 eggs, lightly whisked
2 x 180g pkts white chocolate, broken into squares
Raspberry filling
120g fresh or frozen raspberries
1 tbs icing sugar mixture
2 tsp rosewater essence
470g (2 cups) double cream

Method

Preheat oven to 200°C. Line a baking tray with non-stick baking paper. Place the water and butter in a saucepan over low heat. Cook until butter melts. Increase heat to medium-high and bring to the boil. Remove pan from heat and use a wooden spoon to beat in the flour and salt until well combined.
Place the pan over low heat and cook, stirring with a wooden spoon, for 30 seconds or until the mixture comes away from the sides of the pan. Set aside for 5 minutes to cool. Use a wooden spoon to gradually beat in half the whisked egg. Repeat with the remaining egg, beating until the mixture is thick and glossy.
Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a 1cm-round nozzle. Pipe ten 12cm logs onto the lined tray. Bake in oven for 20-25 minutes or until puffed and golden. Cut a small slit into the side of each eclair. Bake in oven for a further 5 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
To make the raspberry filling, use a fork to mash raspberries with the icing sugar and rosewater in a bowl. In a separate bowl, use a balloon whisk to whisk cream until firm peaks form. Add the raspberry mixture to the cream and fold until just combined.
Cut each eclair in half horizontally (do not cut all the way through). Spread the inside of each eclair with raspberry cream.
Place the chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a saucepan half-filled with simmering water (make sure bowl doesn't touch water). Use a metal spoon to stir occasionally until chocolate melts. Drizzle over the eclairs. Place in the fridge until set.

Android 2.2 Froyo

Preparation method

Prep: 10 mins | Cook: 35 mins

In a medium bowl, whisk together the yoghurt, soya milk, honey and rapeseed oil. Pour into an ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Scoop ice cream into serving bowls and garnish with chopped almonds.

Android 2.3 - Gingerbread

This ginger cake is delicious glazed with the soft lemon icing.

Makes

1 large loaf

Ingredients

150g margarine
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup treacle
1/2 cup honey
2 eggs
3/4 cup sour cream
1 tsp grated fresh ginger
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups (300g) self-raising flour
2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground cloves
Lemon icing
1 cup (150g) icing sugar, sifted
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1/3 cup crystallised ginger chips

Method

Preheat oven to 180°C. Line base of a large, 9cm-deep, 24 x 10cm loaf pan and lightly grease sides.
Beat margarine, sugar, treacle and honey with an electric mixer for 2 minutes. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each. Add sour cream, fresh ginger and vanilla.
Sift in flour and spices and fold to combine. Pour into pan and bake for 45 minutes. Remove and cool.
Mix icing sugar with enough lemon juice to make a soft icing. Drizzle over cake and garnish with ginger chips.

Android 3.0 - Honeycomb

Honey fritters with honey ice-cream

Ingredients (serves 4)

200g full-fat ricotta cheese
2 eggs
6 tbs plain flour
1 tbs unsalted butter, melted
Oil, to deep-fry
Icing sugar and ground cinnamon, to dust
3 tbs honey, warmed, to drizzle
Honey ice-cream
500ml (2 cups) milk
300ml thin cream
4 egg yolks
100g caster sugar
2 tbs honey
40ml (2 tbs) malt whisky

Method

To make ice-cream, place milk and cream in a saucepan. Bring to the boil, then turn off heat and set aside. Place egg yolks, sugar and honey in a bowl and beat until pale and creamy. Pour mixture onto eggs and whisk gently to combine. Clean the pan and return mixture to the pan. Cook over low heat for 2-3 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in whisky. Set aside to cool, then pour into a shallow container and freeze until frozen at edges. Remove from freezer and beat with an electric beater. Pour into the container and refreeze. Repeat 2 or 3 times. (Alternatively, use an ice-cream machine following manufacturer's directions.)
Meanwhile, place ricotta, eggs, flour and butter in a bowl with a pinch of salt and whisk until combined. Cover and set aside for 1 hour. Heat oil in a deep fryer or saucepan. When hot, drop in tablespoons of the mixture and cook until crisp and golden. Transfer to paper towel to drain, then dust with icing sugar and cinnamon. Serve drizzled with honey and honey ice-cream.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

Too much left-over fruit cake at Christmas time just means more of this fabulous ice-cream dessert.

Ingredients (serves 8)

1 litre vanilla ice-cream, softened
1/4 cup dark choc bits
1/4 cup red glace cherries, halved
750g fruit cake, thinly sliced
warmed custard, to serve

Method

Grease a 4cm-deep, 28cm x 18cm slice pan. Line with baking paper, allowing a 4cm overhang at both long ends. Place ice-cream in a large bowl. Add choc bits and cherries. Stir to combine.
Arrange half the cake slices in prepared pan, trimming to fit. Top with ice-cream mixture. Top with remaining cake slices. Cover with plastic wrap.
Place pan in freezer for 1 hour or until ice-cream is firm. Cut into 8 pieces. Serve with custard.

Android has turned three and has shredded its infant status to matured. Starting with T-Mobile's G1 in year 2008 it has grown to Galaxy nexus with the latest version of android OS, Ice cream Sandwich. It is the eight major release by android.

On oct 22nd 2008 T-mobile launched the first android handset in USA , being the first version of android OS it lacked most features we have it in our Android devices now .Even though android was just evolving Andy Rubin's team had Pull down notification , home screen widgets , Gmail integration and an app store built to the core. THis three month OS was updates to Version 1.1 on February next year. The idea of the update was to fix the bugs.

Android 1.5 -Cupcake

This version is the first to have the name of a dessert. This redesigned Version comes with a new google search bar and has noticeably many changes and great usability. An On sccreen keyboard , extensible widgets ,clipboard iprovements[ copy paste],Video capture and playback and more updates improvements were seen in this version.

Android 1.6 -Donut

Though there wasn't any major updates from the previous version, this version enables Android OS to run on multiple resolutions. A redesigned camera interface and fresh new look of android market was other major updates.

Android 2.0/2.1 -Eclair

This is the third major release in a single year and comes with many updates which was well worth when you choose to buy a android device. Multiple account support, Google maps navigation ,Quick contacts, Soft keyboard improvements , a fresh new browser, Live wallpaper , speech to text and a new lock screen was introduced.

Android 2.2 Froyo

This was the first major release of year 2010. This release version has major updates to google services and Seen google is deeply integrated to the core of the OS.

Android 2.3 - Gingerbread

Gingerbread alone owns 50% share of the all the releases> Froyo was leading the pack until Gingerbread came. There were not much of improvement until you look the Interface . Android's skin have improved decently with this new update , fresh new icons , new gallery and a new search bar. Improved keyboard, Better battery and app management tool and suport for front facing camera are other major updates.

Android 3.0 - Honeycomb

This OS was built only for tablets and TV's and are meant to work on larger displays. Multitasking was the key feature and no more physical button was a plus.

Android 4.0 Ice cream Sandwich

This is last and latest OS release. It has a single OS for both phones and tablets and comes with lots of improvements including home screen improvements, android beam feature, face unlock, new gmail and calendar app

Google Chrome is the 2nd most used browser in the world according to statscounter.com . Google Chrome have improved from what it has been three years back and show terrific growth. With more installs Google Chrome is sure to beat IE to become the No.1.

I was not happy with the Google Chrome's new UI with different pages for Apps and most visited pages. So i have made a concept design in which both apps and Most visited pages are tied together to a page. I have sent the new design concept to the google chrome team. You can see the new design below.

Firefox Is Dead , Lacks Security

FireFox has been outdone by Google Chrome in all departments. Recently Firefox was replaced By Google Chrome as the second most used browser after internet explorer which still rules the pack with 40% market share. Also Firefox is in all sort of trouble as the Google tie up with firefox is ending this year and google havn't made their mind to renew it. Firefox's 84% revenue comes from this deal. They'll be down in the dumps if microsoft doesn't come in for rescue.

Now the latest study reveals another issue with firefox. Security! Its the least secured browser among the top three browsers in the world. Firefox lacks the sandboxing feature which was a huge plus for chrome browser. Sandboxing feature allows each tab opened in its own box so that if a tab is infected , the browser wont slow down nor the other tabs will be infected. IE have recently implemented this feature. Plug-in Security and JIT hardening are the 2 other security features firefox is missing.

Sandboxing: Sandboxing is a technology, which determines how much access an exploit has to the target machine.

Just-In-Time (JIT) hardening: This technology prevents malicious JavaScript code on a website from compiling code on the target computer, mentions a ZDNet report.

Plug-in security: This limits how much access plug-ins have. It also prevents the download of malicious add-ons.
