Here&#39;s looking into the features.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Motorola&#39;s touchscreen phone is GPS-enabled offering navigation maps and landmarks of 30 cities. The phone has satellite based GPS which offers users lifetime free GPS navigation maps.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The phone also offers voice-guided navigation and location based reminders across major national and state highways.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The phone supports turn-by-turn, voice-guided navigation, and easy search of points-of-interest like hotels, colleges, petrol pumps, airports, railway stations, cinemas and tourist attractions. It also provides coverage across national and state highways in India.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;According to Motorola MobileDevices India and South West AsiaLloyd Mathias, the phone is Motorola&#39;s first GPS-enabled mobile phone. He added that the navigation service is free with no activation charges, independent of mobile networks and can be used even without inserting the SIM card. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a onblur=&quot;try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}&quot; href=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji60xAYdp23JBFw0UulAoXGIkpowK9EmwBqblhg7rw8sQGj6b0q-m0NDQ-Tf0NLSd3QyIHM2V11DAjhE0NJw50t9P54W4Rr3-_6XyQ97Xr118A3oJca_8TJ43slWrxpl8WD8_yoUS57Ct5/s1600-h/photo.cms.jpg&quot;&gt;&lt;img style=&quot;margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 210px;&quot; src=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji60xAYdp23JBFw0UulAoXGIkpowK9EmwBqblhg7rw8sQGj6b0q-m0NDQ-Tf0NLSd3QyIHM2V11DAjhE0NJw50t9P54W4Rr3-_6XyQ97Xr118A3oJca_8TJ43slWrxpl8WD8_yoUS57Ct5/s400/photo.cms.jpg&quot; alt=&quot;&quot; id=&quot;BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5262503507145209442&quot; border=&quot;0&quot; /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;The Linux-based phone has a 3.2 megapixel camera and 8X zoom for multiple capture modes. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Among the key multimedia features, the phone comes with MP3 player and Music ID, and provides users direct access to MOTOMUSIC service.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;MING A1600 also provides video capture and video playback at 30 fps (frames per second). Wondering when the phone will hit Indian shores? Soon. HTC is planning to roll out Google Android-powered phone in India by December end.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;According to a business daily, Taiwan-based cellphone major is currently in talks with a leading service provider in India. The company which has an exclusive partnership to sell phones in India with Airtel said that it is open to selling the phone through independent retail channels. The business model is still under consideration.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;table border=&quot;0&quot; cellpadding=&quot;0&quot; cellspacing=&quot;0&quot; width=&quot;100%&quot;&gt;&lt;tbody&gt;&lt;tr&gt;&lt;td align=&quot;left&quot; valign=&quot;top&quot;&gt;&lt;div class=&quot;KonaBody&quot;&gt;&lt;div class=&quot;section1&quot;&gt;&lt;div class=&quot;Normal&quot;&gt; The phone which has widely being termed as Google&#39;s rival to Apple iPhone was launched by TMobile in US earlier this week.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Google phone is priced at $179, $20 less than the 3G iPhone. It is, however, expected that the phone may sport a higher price tag in India, a pattern also witnessed in the pricing of 3G iPhone in the country. Apple&#39;s 3G iPhone sells for $199 8GB in US as compared to Rs 31,000 for 8GB in India.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The G1 phone boasts of touchscreen, a computer-like keyboard and has Google&#39;s new open operating system, Android. It also hosts an array of multimedia features similar to Apple&#39;s iPhone and RIM&#39;s BlackBerry.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The phone has a trackball for navigation, high-speed Internet browsing, WiFi, email, instant messaging and SMS texting. The phone functions on 3G network and is specially designed to offer high-speed Internet surfing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It also has a Global Positioning System (GPS), a 3 megapixel camera with photo-sharing capability and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a feature lacking on the iPhone. Like iPhone, in G1 users cannot shoot video.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There&#39;s also a feature by which Gmail users will get instant notification whenever they receive a new message in their inbox. Available in three colors -- black, white and brown -- it includes familiar Google services, such as Google Maps, Gmail and YouTube. Like the iPhone and other smartphones, the device is meant to broaden the appeal of Web surfing on the go.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Research firm Strategy Analytics has predicted that the G1 could sell 400,000 units by the end of 2008, accounting for 4 per cent of the smartphone market.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Link to this post:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;!-- google_ad_section_end --&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;script type=&quot;text/javascript&quot;&gt; var RN = new String (Math.random()); var RNS = RN.substring (2,11); var b2 = &#39;&lt;div align=&quot;left&quot; name=&quot;ad2494&quot; id=&quot;ad2494&quot;&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;iframe src=&quot;\&quot; width=&quot;255&quot; height=&quot;250&quot; marginwidth=&quot;0&quot; align=&quot;left&quot; marginheight=&quot;0&quot; hspace=&quot;1&quot; vspace=&quot;0&quot; frameborder=&quot;0&quot; scrolling=&quot;no&quot; bordercolor=&quot;\&quot;&gt; &lt;/iframe&gt;&#39;; if (doweshowbellyad==1) bellyad.innerHTML = b2; &lt;/script&gt;&lt;/td&gt; &lt;/tr&gt; &lt;tr&gt; &lt;td height=&quot;7&quot;&gt;http://infotech.indiatimes.com/News/Google_phone_to_cost_above_Rs_20000/articleshow/3530200.cms&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/td&gt;&lt;/tr&gt;&lt;/tbody&gt;&lt;/table&gt;</description><link>http://techieshangout.blogspot.com/2008/09/google-phone-to-cost-above-rs-20000.html</link><author>noreply@blogger.com (Admin)</author><media:thumbnail xmlns:media="http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/" url="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhfGtW6_Sdnpxwu5nBZw1enCSNnu14sD9tlvCoquKqUNO-Md_7L5Ms_jNDoa10pZThDAHiy9Oe3mlTJkVXT-rpAnru_4LnrR8gX9GJC6s20eMSaA2aZPyHL8HznI8qWtJ8gofAaigQ7uAN/s72-c/google-iphone.jpg" height="72" width="72"/><thr:total>0</thr:total></item><item><guid isPermaLink="false">tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-351477903944972070.post-9079630216934171986</guid><pubDate>Wed, 16 Apr 2008 15:27:00 +0000</pubDate><atom:updated>2008-09-22T16:07:22.467+05:30</atom:updated><category domain="http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#">Latest News</category><category domain="http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#">Latest Stuff</category><title>Track Your Lost Mobile On MTNL</title><description>&lt;a onblur=&quot;try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}&quot; href=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiQ24KQ5356t5dgFc-juqwQDxHJHYR5QFhZmVwiBZALcJdssLYJn6VHbBaXqKC0KBdSLdeLu3ymaKFhUoZTPTh-meLvHSRJzqGYIp_k7fLozsqZ5FXdItTZYL13-YhF90H5X5b_3U1VmOa/s1600-h/mobiles.jpg&quot;&gt;&lt;img style=&quot;margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;&quot; src=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiQ24KQ5356t5dgFc-juqwQDxHJHYR5QFhZmVwiBZALcJdssLYJn6VHbBaXqKC0KBdSLdeLu3ymaKFhUoZTPTh-meLvHSRJzqGYIp_k7fLozsqZ5FXdItTZYL13-YhF90H5X5b_3U1VmOa/s400/mobiles.jpg&quot; alt=&quot;&quot; id=&quot;BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5189865871836538178&quot; border=&quot;0&quot; /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); text-align: justify; text-decoration: none;font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;font-size:14;&quot; &gt;Now MTNL going to serve its customers with the newest technology which would help them to track their lost mobiles. This software, stores the IMEI number of the handset, the SIM card number being used by the customer, as well as an alternative phone number or email address where the alert can be sent in case of theft or loss. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;font-family:Arial;&quot;&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;font-style: normal; Therefore, to help you make a better buying decision, we have identified 10 key features you should consider when looking for a new phone.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. Size/type of LCD screens&lt;br /&gt;On flip phones, an external LCD lets you see who is calling before you open the cover. Some of the newer models such as the Motorola RAZR2 V9 also allow the user to control music playback options directly from the external display. But while a larger screen makes it more comfortable for tasks such as Web browsing and viewing of documents, it drains battery life at a faster rate, too.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a onblur=&quot;try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}&quot; href=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV-f-DLstAUV4JlJ3r3Ph71ZtYIO2VnacHDPro9exQEglVG1QfZGe5FrdUydivhQ5p8o8G6OwHpfrtclEVvzw9S2RwLUmxsCeVj3Fp4KiNZg-HhPYV9fPIvfSbfPJOf-2Q98RVAazG6xAu/s1600-h/b001.jpg&quot;&gt;&lt;img style=&quot;cursor: pointer;&quot; src=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV-f-DLstAUV4JlJ3r3Ph71ZtYIO2VnacHDPro9exQEglVG1QfZGe5FrdUydivhQ5p8o8G6OwHpfrtclEVvzw9S2RwLUmxsCeVj3Fp4KiNZg-HhPYV9fPIvfSbfPJOf-2Q98RVAazG6xAu/s400/b001.jpg&quot; alt=&quot;&quot; id=&quot;BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5189774178579735826&quot; border=&quot;0&quot; /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. Connectivity and memory&lt;br /&gt;If you listen to music often, you should be looking for a handset that comes with a dedicated 2.5/3.5mm audio jack. This allows you to plug in your personal headphones without having to bear with lousy bundled ones. The type of PC connection is also something you should look out for, especially if you have a lot of devices that use the same connector. Proprietary cables mean you&#39;ll have to take extra care not to misplace it as it may be harder to find a replacement. In addition, some phones can also be charged via the cable when connected to a PC. Most handsets support some form of external memory and the most common one right now is the microSD/TransFlash media. In ideal situations, the memory card should be hot-swappable, meaning you don&#39;t have to power down the device in order to remove the media.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3. Web browser&lt;br /&gt;This lets you surf the wireless Web. If your phone features a WAP (Wireless Access Protocol) browser, it&#39;s optimized to view sites configured to display on small, mobile devices. Not all sites, however, are made for WAP browsing. Image-intensive and Flash sites tend to load more slowly, and depending on the type of browser you are using, some may not load correctly. Some of the more popular Web browsers on phones include the Nokia S60 browser and Opera Mobile.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4. Text messaging, instant messaging, and email&lt;br /&gt;They allow quick communication without making a phone call. Be sure to find out how many messages can be stored in the phone. If you&#39;re a heavy email user, make sure your phone supports this feature and consider adding a data plan to your basic service. There are also external third-party applications that enable you to logon to IM services. Some of these are free, while others are not.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Nokia N82&lt;br /&gt;5. Camera, video recorder, and picture messaging&lt;br /&gt;Use them for taking pictures, shooting brief video clips, and sharing with others. Most phones come with megapixel cameras which provide enough resolution for 4R prints. The latest camera-phones such as the Sony Ericsson K850i and Nokia N82 top out on resolutions of 5 megapixels and are equipped with a Xenon flash. For those who shoot videos more often, an LED light is better able to provide a constant source of light.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a onblur=&quot;try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}&quot; href=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGGkbzwc18BOQilh_zmytNQIIRBLdTiUD6PexS90ddAG55rR9j_wZpQdDFEFrrY7py0EUe4LQ8EefJDOd8Ej7IjK5VuVT8umUUsrkvRn-2SxTSIkx3QIRWT_m-2KC-kDN_GiOCIWJHqPSR/s1600-h/b006.jpg&quot;&gt;&lt;img style=&quot;cursor: pointer;&quot; src=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGGkbzwc18BOQilh_zmytNQIIRBLdTiUD6PexS90ddAG55rR9j_wZpQdDFEFrrY7py0EUe4LQ8EefJDOd8Ej7IjK5VuVT8umUUsrkvRn-2SxTSIkx3QIRWT_m-2KC-kDN_GiOCIWJHqPSR/s400/b006.jpg&quot; alt=&quot;&quot; id=&quot;BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5189774423392871714&quot; border=&quot;0&quot; /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;6. Speakerphone/conference calling&lt;br /&gt;A speakerphone is useful for multitasking, such as working on a computer while you&#39;re holding a conversation. Consider getting a unit with a full-duplex speakerphone. This allows both parties to speak at the same time. Business travelers who need to set up impromptu meetings will want to look at a phone that supports conference calling.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;7. Network&lt;br /&gt;The type of network support available on a phone determines the places it can be used. For example, those traveling frequently should look out for handsets with triband (GSM 900/1800/1900) and quadband (GSM 850/900/1800/1900) support which will ensure that they can use them in other countries such as Europe and the US. 3G/HSDPA networks, which essentially bring wireless broadband data services to the mobile phone, are not new in Asia anymore, so that&#39;s something to consider if you require faster data services often. Wireless LAN, or Wi-Fi, is another feature to look out for if you frequent places with hotspots.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sony Ericsson HBH-DS980 Bluetooth Headset&lt;br /&gt;8. Bluetooth and infrared&lt;br /&gt;Both features let you wirelessly connect with external devices. A phone with an infrared port allows information to be exchanged wirelessly with PDAs or PCs, though it has been gradually phased out in many of the current phones. As for Bluetooth, if it supports the A2DP profile, you can also use it to stream music to a wireless headset.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a onblur=&quot;try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}&quot; href=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdgkCM6DG5L3gxyeLho8E1kRac1O1VswaTaVyXJYUiv0GEUnpYskuhgfbg9Xl_12u4-KGEUoiLBv4fF-KANFMd0qHiWz7_IrDWh2yYYrA0Q6ToOPEX9pB0xgRJ_-MH_yrSaNStzemNF6bg/s1600-h/b001a.jpg&quot;&gt;&lt;img style=&quot;cursor: pointer;&quot; src=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdgkCM6DG5L3gxyeLho8E1kRac1O1VswaTaVyXJYUiv0GEUnpYskuhgfbg9Xl_12u4-KGEUoiLBv4fF-KANFMd0qHiWz7_IrDWh2yYYrA0Q6ToOPEX9pB0xgRJ_-MH_yrSaNStzemNF6bg/s400/b001a.jpg&quot; alt=&quot;&quot; id=&quot;BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5189774539356988722&quot; border=&quot;0&quot; /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;9. Multimedia options&lt;br /&gt;Features to look for include MP3 support, FM radio, video playback and games. Some of the newer phones come with 3D games, while others make use of accelerometers for more interactivity. For videoconferencing calls, there will be an extra fee and, of course, you&#39;ll have to have the service in your area.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;10. Accessories and addons&lt;br /&gt;What&#39;s available, and what&#39;s important to you? Just make sure it&#39;s specifically designed for your phone of choice. If no games and applications are on the phone, can you get them?</description><link>http://techieshangout.blogspot.com/2008/04/10-things-to-look-for-when-buying-phone.html</link><author>noreply@blogger.com (Admin)</author><media:thumbnail xmlns:media="http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/" url="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV-f-DLstAUV4JlJ3r3Ph71ZtYIO2VnacHDPro9exQEglVG1QfZGe5FrdUydivhQ5p8o8G6OwHpfrtclEVvzw9S2RwLUmxsCeVj3Fp4KiNZg-HhPYV9fPIvfSbfPJOf-2Q98RVAazG6xAu/s72-c/b001.jpg" height="72" width="72"/><thr:total>1</thr:total></item><item><guid isPermaLink="false">tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-351477903944972070.post-8429724805626148170</guid><pubDate>Tue, 15 Apr 2008 16:52:00 +0000</pubDate><atom:updated>2008-04-15T22:30:47.580+05:30</atom:updated><category domain="http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#">Gadgets</category><category domain="http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#">Latest News</category><category domain="http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#">Latest Stuff</category><title>10 worst gadgets ever invented</title><description>&lt;a onblur=&quot;try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}&quot; href=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvURZa9bW5KwsgZqfzKP-6m9-6LvMGVNpEz07_DlANVWKKtgfsACQ7Oy9uK6ACVyWxwSdTkbslVxwKovR_XJC_5d_9srjQo69DKUCAHoQ4rBAZGLLudncKuq_yK59OiP8gZobBot4NDVgK/s1600-h/gadgets.jpg&quot;&gt;&lt;img style=&quot;margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;&quot; src=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvURZa9bW5KwsgZqfzKP-6m9-6LvMGVNpEz07_DlANVWKKtgfsACQ7Oy9uK6ACVyWxwSdTkbslVxwKovR_XJC_5d_9srjQo69DKUCAHoQ4rBAZGLLudncKuq_yK59OiP8gZobBot4NDVgK/s400/gadgets.jpg&quot; alt=&quot;&quot; id=&quot;BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5189518078269809906&quot; border=&quot;0&quot; /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;Just because something is technically possible doesn&#39;t mean it&#39;s necessarily a good idea to go ahead and do it. Just look at cloning, or the Mir Space Station. And now the latest -- the worst news in aviation since the Hindenburg exploded. Mobile phones will soon be allowed on planes.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;The European Commission has set out rules governing the use of the ubiquitous cellular phone on flights, and within six months predictable cries of &#39;Hi! I&#39;m in economy-class on the Skybus!&#39; or &#39;We land at six, can you get dinner started?&#39; will be heard across the firmament.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;And this is but the latest in a long list of technological developments that seemed like a good idea to someone at one time, but have proven to be the opposite. Here are our 10 worst offenders, starting with ... &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;1Mobiles on planes: the boundless stratosphere used to be one of the few places in which one could escape the omnipresent mobile. Air rage is set to rocket (yes, pun intended) when grumpy fliers&#39; rest is disturbed by the sound of bleeping ring tones, tinny MP3s and one half of a moronic, very loud conversation. This is without even mentioning the possibility of terrorists using mobile signals to remotely detonate bombs in the baggage hold, or the plane taking a nosedive because the cumulative effect of 200 eejits playing computer games has driven the navigation system bananas.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;2 All-in-one phone-MP3 player-address book-internet-camera etc.: because if one breaks, they&#39;re all broken, which obviously doesn&#39;t happen when your gadgets are physically distinct objects. And who wants to watch TV on a screen the size of a Zippo lighter, anyway?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;3 Windows Vista: it&#39;s better than XP in some ways but there&#39;s an awful lot of needless tampering with the classics, e.g. Microsoft Word, which is now about as navigable as the Hindu Kush during a particularly cold winter.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;4 Wireless broadband: now people can be rude by checking their email, downloading illegal movies and playing poker with Bulgarian gangsters just about anywhere: pubs, cafés, at the dinner table, in bed, wherever.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;5 Camera-phones and video-phones: wave bye-bye to the notion of privacy -- the next time you make an ass of yourself in company, it&#39;s likely to be uploaded to YouTube and emailed around the world in all its fuzzy, pixellated glory quicker than you can say, &#39;What was I drinking last night?&#39;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;6 Social networking sites: even worse than the real thing. Is this what being a social animal is all about: &#39;poking&#39; other friendless dweebs halfway around the world, or sending pointless messages to people who already know and dislike you enough, without you interrupting their working day with your inanities? With friends like this, who needs enemies?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;7 GPS systems: they make people over-confident while driving twisty back-roads, but these supposedly all-seeing electronic eyes haven&#39;t factored in the tractor lumbering around the next bend, potholes the size of Godzilla&#39;s footprint, or that idiot who&#39;s built a wall halfway out onto the road.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;8 More electronics in cars: it&#39;s a simple fact that mechanical parts are more reliable than electronic/electrical parts, easier to fix when they do cause a problem, handier to get hold of, and don&#39;t require constant &#39;upgrade&#39;. And you can buy mechanical parts second-hand, too.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;9 DVD: it may have a better picture than its predecessor, the sound may be sharper and you may get all manner of gimmicky extras, but DVD is about as reliable as that rumour you heard in the pub the other night about Brian Cowen&#39;s plans to make Willie O&#39;Dea the Minister for Moustaches. At least those much-maligned old VHS tapes didn&#39;t start skipping just because of a thumb-print. And they only cost half the price, too. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;10 The way amazon.com and similar sites make personalised suggestions based on your previous purchases: it&#39;s just creepy when the computer tries to strike up a relationship with you on first-name terms, like being stuck on that spooky ship in 2001: A Space Odyssey. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Will the computer get into a sulk if you ignore their recommendations and try to murder you by short-circuiting the electric supply? It&#39;s always a possibility ... &lt;/p&gt;</description><link>http://techieshangout.blogspot.com/2008/04/10-worst-gadgets-ever-invented.html</link><author>noreply@blogger.com (Admin)</author><media:thumbnail xmlns:media="http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/" url="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvURZa9bW5KwsgZqfzKP-6m9-6LvMGVNpEz07_DlANVWKKtgfsACQ7Oy9uK6ACVyWxwSdTkbslVxwKovR_XJC_5d_9srjQo69DKUCAHoQ4rBAZGLLudncKuq_yK59OiP8gZobBot4NDVgK/s72-c/gadgets.jpg" height="72" width="72"/><thr:total>0</thr:total></item><item><guid isPermaLink="false">tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-351477903944972070.post-7813735501932699350</guid><pubDate>Tue, 15 Apr 2008 16:41:00 +0000</pubDate><atom:updated>2008-04-15T22:14:33.610+05:30</atom:updated><category domain="http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#">Latest Stuff</category><title>60-Second Review | Samsung BlackJack II</title><description>&lt;a onblur=&quot;try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}&quot; href=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizwNTAyq973mUYUTDlZBOd0n_iziHa4k3aLwoeEPRCueb1VZ_AxOXDGx1IMQ9XNG2AGfI908tvrXByfyjBfQldcsujzuPxl3cxO-rLnioH293Ot7e5FXTlY4OOfdpfkfvxt9VtIxbxYcbD/s1600-h/569-613-Blackjack_II_red_front.embedded.prod_affiliate.56.JPG&quot;&gt;&lt;img style=&quot;margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;&quot; src=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizwNTAyq973mUYUTDlZBOd0n_iziHa4k3aLwoeEPRCueb1VZ_AxOXDGx1IMQ9XNG2AGfI908tvrXByfyjBfQldcsujzuPxl3cxO-rLnioH293Ot7e5FXTlY4OOfdpfkfvxt9VtIxbxYcbD/s400/569-613-Blackjack_II_red_front.embedded.prod_affiliate.56.JPG&quot; alt=&quot;&quot; id=&quot;BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5189513779007546594&quot; border=&quot;0&quot; /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt; &lt;strong&gt;What:&lt;/strong&gt; Samsung BlackJack II for AT&amp;amp;T&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Features:&lt;/strong&gt; Includes Microsoft Windows Mobile 6, TeleNav GPS Navigator, 2 megapixel camera, jog wheel and QWERTY keyboard. It has a 2.4-inch LCD screen, runs on AT&amp;amp;T&#39;s 3G network and will work with AT&amp;amp;T Video Share.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Retail price:&lt;/strong&gt; $349.99&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Ups:&lt;/strong&gt; It&#39;s easy to understand the menu navigation, and the wheel makes it quick to scroll through items. The wheel also acts as the volume control when viewing media, which is convenient. It comes with many interesting applications, such as one that lets you subscribe to RSS feeds and another that lets you watch streaming video of shows like &lt;em&gt;The Office&lt;/em&gt; or watch live coverage from MSNBC. There is also a shortcut key to take you directly to your messages.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Downs:&lt;/strong&gt; The keys are too small for my taste. I&#39;m usually a pretty fast texter, but the key size slowed me down.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Bottom line:&lt;/strong&gt; If you are an impatient person, you&#39;ll probably get annoyed with the size of the keys. But it just takes some getting used to. Other than that, this is a great smartphone with many helpful and fun applications.&lt;/p&gt;</description><link>http://techieshangout.blogspot.com/2008/04/60-second-review-samsung-blackjack-ii.html</link><author>noreply@blogger.com (Admin)</author><media:thumbnail xmlns:media="http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/" url="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizwNTAyq973mUYUTDlZBOd0n_iziHa4k3aLwoeEPRCueb1VZ_AxOXDGx1IMQ9XNG2AGfI908tvrXByfyjBfQldcsujzuPxl3cxO-rLnioH293Ot7e5FXTlY4OOfdpfkfvxt9VtIxbxYcbD/s72-c/569-613-Blackjack_II_red_front.embedded.prod_affiliate.56.JPG" height="72" width="72"/><thr:total>0</thr:total></item><item><guid isPermaLink="false">tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-351477903944972070.post-6200850764947636800</guid><pubDate>Tue, 15 Apr 2008 16:38:00 +0000</pubDate><atom:updated>2008-04-15T22:11:31.964+05:30</atom:updated><category domain="http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#">Latest News</category><title>Google offers tools to find victims of child abuse</title><description>&lt;a onblur=&quot;try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}&quot; href=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHJGb-CgroZSfRqAe_dQcIsv9LypcJqyvP_IuO58-NzVrgEPT01Cb2Row37FVf8q48FB-pI2S1Lt9UYmsyJ3Rr5VvTAA7beBFXSEFXj5lyef_7euXo-TDsjD6bmk5TDDAwPY5HhZeEQAy8/s1600-h/images.jpg&quot;&gt;&lt;img style=&quot;margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;&quot; src=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHJGb-CgroZSfRqAe_dQcIsv9LypcJqyvP_IuO58-NzVrgEPT01Cb2Row37FVf8q48FB-pI2S1Lt9UYmsyJ3Rr5VvTAA7beBFXSEFXj5lyef_7euXo-TDsjD6bmk5TDDAwPY5HhZeEQAy8/s400/images.jpg&quot; alt=&quot;&quot; id=&quot;BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5189513117582582994&quot; border=&quot;0&quot; /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;The US-based National Center for Missing &amp;amp; Exploited Children (NCMEC) &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.missingkids.com/missingkids/servlet/NewsEventServlet?LanguageCountry=en_US&amp;amp;PageId=3644&quot; target=&quot;_blank&quot;&gt;is adopting&lt;/a&gt; custom-made Google technology to combat the sexual abuse of children.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Analysts from NCMEC&#39;s Child Victim Identification Program (CVIP) have reviewed more than 13m child abuse images and videos as part of their mission to identify and rescue children. To help automate and streamline this process, a team of Google engineers led by Dr. Shumeet Baluja created software tools to help NCMEC track down child predators and victims of child exploitation through video and image search.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;The Google technology will enable NCMEC analysts to more quickly and easily search NCMEC&#39;s systems, in order to sort and identify files that contain images of child pornography victims. New video tools from Google will streamline analysts&#39; review of video snippets from files seized in child pornography cases.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;In addition to developing the custom-made software, Google has also donated a Google Search Appliance, Google Earth Enterprise, and in-kind advertising through Google Grants to further support NCMEC&#39;s work. NCMEC is a non-profit organisation which runs a reporting mechanism for child sexual exploitation, called CyberTipline. Since it was established in 1984, NCMEC has assisted law enforcement with more than 140,900 missing child cases, resulting in the removal from harm of more than 124,500 children.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Google&#39;s Baluja &lt;a href=&quot;http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2008/04/building-software-tools-to-find-child.html&quot; target=&quot;_blank&quot;&gt;explained&lt;/a&gt;: &quot; The keys here were organization, scalability, and search. In particular, the tools we provided will aid in organizing and indexing NCMEC&#39;s information so that analysts can both deal with new images and videos more efficiently and also reference historical material more effectively. We hope the tools we&#39;ve built for NCMEC will help its analysts make the important and often time-sensitive work of investigating child predators faster and more efficient.&quot;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Ernie Allen, president and chief exec of NCMEC, added: &quot;Criminals are using cutting-edge technology to commit their crimes of child sexual exploitation, and in fighting to solve those crimes and keep children safe, we must do the same.&quot;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Last week Google announced a plan to allow Brazilian police to access 3,261 private photo albums on Google-owned social networking website Orkut, suspected of containing images of child abuse. ®&lt;/p&gt;</description><link>http://techieshangout.blogspot.com/2008/04/google-offers-tools-to-find-victims-of.html</link><author>noreply@blogger.com (Admin)</author><media:thumbnail xmlns:media="http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/" url="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHJGb-CgroZSfRqAe_dQcIsv9LypcJqyvP_IuO58-NzVrgEPT01Cb2Row37FVf8q48FB-pI2S1Lt9UYmsyJ3Rr5VvTAA7beBFXSEFXj5lyef_7euXo-TDsjD6bmk5TDDAwPY5HhZeEQAy8/s72-c/images.jpg" height="72" width="72"/><thr:total>0</thr:total></item><item><guid isPermaLink="false">tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-351477903944972070.post-6435682394376382877</guid><pubDate>Tue, 15 Apr 2008 16:35:00 +0000</pubDate><atom:updated>2008-04-15T22:08:34.323+05:30</atom:updated><category domain="http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#">Latest News</category><category domain="http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#">Tips</category><title>Reduce your PC’s power consumption with a Power Regimen.</title><description>&lt;a onblur=&quot;try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}&quot; href=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuehHa3Dx8lL1CS_B-0HQtqcLjKd2XcNKbilLuhOCqP6ty_R3vG7CXWUfSZ_o3TWsah4hC-fWkhxAgvOJPr0bmlNBi80wkmFXT688LIrgDTGEEq2ablX5FDSirhSqZzLl4nMcqGxjjBFVU/s1600-h/cover.jpg&quot;&gt;&lt;img style=&quot;margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;&quot; src=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuehHa3Dx8lL1CS_B-0HQtqcLjKd2XcNKbilLuhOCqP6ty_R3vG7CXWUfSZ_o3TWsah4hC-fWkhxAgvOJPr0bmlNBi80wkmFXT688LIrgDTGEEq2ablX5FDSirhSqZzLl4nMcqGxjjBFVU/s400/cover.jpg&quot; alt=&quot;&quot; id=&quot;BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5189512254294156482&quot; border=&quot;0&quot; /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The only place you used to have to worry about your computer using too much power was in midflight at 35,000 feet. These days load shedding, blackouts, brownouts and the coming increase in electricity rates have brought these concerns back down on the agenda. Managing your computers appetite for energy can save you money, increase its life and prevent data loss.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The flow of electricity is measured in Watts. In your average computer, the hard drive will use between 5 and 25 watts, your CPU will use between 50 and 95 watts and your flat screen monitor between 40 and 60 watts. A well furbished computer running full ball will burn anything from 300 to 500 watts – and sometimes more.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Eskom charges you based on how many kilowatt-hours you use. My last known electricity bill was 32 cents per unit of electricity (kilowatt hour). If my computer uses 500 Watts at full ball, that’s almost 16 cents per hour.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sound like nothing? If you’re like me and your PC is turned on for 40 hours a week, your electricity bill could range in the hundreds every year. If you keep your PC on for three years, the amount of power youre using could represent a sizable portion of your computer’s original price.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Most PCs now support either Advanced Power Management (APM) or the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI). To check your PC, select Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, click the Device Manager tab, open the System devices listing, and look for entries with either &#39;APM&#39; or &#39;ACPI&#39; in the name. If you don&#39;t find either, power management may be disabled or not installed on your PC--and enabling it can be tricky.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;APM, the older and less flexible standard, has five settings, ranging from full on to APM off (see Figure 1). Adjust the settings in either the CMOS setup program or Control Panel&#39;s Power Management utility. The settings can conflict, however, so you may have to experiment.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Open your system&#39;s CMOS setup program--typically by pressing Delete or F1 as the PC boots up--and go to the Power Management menu. If there&#39;s no menu specifically for power, look through the other menus; you&#39;re certain to find something. When you do, choose the option that enables APM.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If this causes problems, force your PC to use the earlier--and potentially more compatible--APM version 1. Go back to Device Manager and choose Advanced Power Management support under &#39;System devices.&#39; Choose the Settings tab and then check Force APM 1.0 mode (see Figure 2).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If your PC is fairly recent, it may support the newer ACPI specification, which is part of the OnNow effort by Microsoft and others to make PCs easier to use and to let them boot up and shut down faster.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;ACPI&#39;s Standby mode makes restarts easy, and it allows a PC to &quot;wake up&quot; automatically to process e-mail, modem calls, prescheduled tasks, and other external input. It improves on APM by letting you control the power consumption of individual components. At the very least, Control Panel&#39;s Power Management utility should offer power control over the hard disk and the monitor.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You&#39;ll conserve the most power by setting your monitor to power down. Some 19-inch monitors devour up to 150 watts. Powering down is much better than running a screen-saver program. You&#39;ll extend your monitor&#39;s life while suppressing its voracious appetite.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class=&quot;design3&quot;&gt;&lt;a href=&quot;http://www.journeysystems.com/?power_supply_calculator&quot;&gt;Power Supply Calculator&lt;/a&gt; &lt;/span&gt;</description><link>http://techieshangout.blogspot.com/2008/04/reduce-your-pcs-power-consumption-with.html</link><author>noreply@blogger.com (Admin)</author><media:thumbnail xmlns:media="http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/" url="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuehHa3Dx8lL1CS_B-0HQtqcLjKd2XcNKbilLuhOCqP6ty_R3vG7CXWUfSZ_o3TWsah4hC-fWkhxAgvOJPr0bmlNBi80wkmFXT688LIrgDTGEEq2ablX5FDSirhSqZzLl4nMcqGxjjBFVU/s72-c/cover.jpg" height="72" width="72"/><thr:total>0</thr:total></item><item><guid isPermaLink="false">tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-351477903944972070.post-8198398515143803058</guid><pubDate>Wed, 09 Apr 2008 09:57:00 +0000</pubDate><atom:updated>2008-04-09T15:29:16.444+05:30</atom:updated><category domain="http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#">Latest News</category><title>JRuby 1.1 released</title><description>&lt;a onblur=&quot;try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}&quot; href=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8npe8BScUWwT82f7FbYnWL4-UH_WWNY5KvMhiPsVvTNxZJ9pMyM19HsMoUQcVFQO7lht6AJB_LzMV4LFzWsWDsw4CamHM6uVIAQ5iVqSri9LulO__loxOV1-eEFFjjxwlBtHbuSDPstTw/s1600-h/medium.png&quot;&gt;&lt;img style=&quot;margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;&quot; src=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8npe8BScUWwT82f7FbYnWL4-UH_WWNY5KvMhiPsVvTNxZJ9pMyM19HsMoUQcVFQO7lht6AJB_LzMV4LFzWsWDsw4CamHM6uVIAQ5iVqSri9LulO__loxOV1-eEFFjjxwlBtHbuSDPstTw/s400/medium.png&quot; alt=&quot;&quot; id=&quot;BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5187182947909806562&quot; border=&quot;0&quot; /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href=&quot;http://jruby.codehaus.org/&quot;&gt;JRuby 1.1&lt;/a&gt; has been released. But please, don&#39;t call it a UMPC. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class=&quot;s_t&quot;&gt; HP&#39;s 2133 Mini-Note PC is very similar to a UMPC. It is small and lightweight, with wireless connectivity through Wi-Fi, though it wisely eschews built-in WAN for an Xpress Card slot. It is sturdy enough to be thrown into a backpack, aimed specifically at students, and seems to need a niche audience to justify its existence (students, tech journalists, etc). It even steals some of the best aspects of a PC, like the full-blown desktop OS, while managing to toss some of the least successful, like the touchscreen, which most UMPCs haven&#39;t quite figured out yet. It&#39;s even a little more expensive than we&#39;d like, starting at about $500 and working half-way to a $1000 when you start piling on the options.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Don&#39;t call it a comeback&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But it would be a mistake to call this a UMPC. For one thing, we&#39;ve never picked up a UMPC that we actually thought about buying, whereas the HP Mini-Note is a purchase we could easily justify, as a second or traveling machine. For another, HP has included a full keyboard, as well as plenty of connectivity options, including two USB ports, the Xpress Card slot we mentioned as well as an SD card slot, and VGA for connecting to a projector. Add Ethernet and audio in/out ports, and your done. We could complain about ports it lacks, but this seems like plenty for an ultraportable. With the 3-cell battery the device was quite small; it could easily fit a large handbag. With the 6-cell, the battery acted as a nice stand in back, but the machine gained just a little bulk.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In person, HP was unafraid to show us the 2133 Mini-Note PC right next to an Asus EEE PC, and the difference was striking. We&#39;ve been testing an EEE PC in house for a couple weeks, and our first impressions are that the device is a simple, toy-like laptop, with some adult capabilities. The HP 2133 is the opposite. This feels like an adult laptop, shrunk down to fit an ultraportable case. The aluminum casing on the HP 2133, compared to plastic on most devices this size, makes it feel very sturdy and solid, and HP has made the screen a bit more scratch resistant, knowing students might throw it around.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;We don&#39;t need no thought control&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As an editor with former classroom teaching experience, we grilled HP execs about whether this is really a new device for the classroom, or a second machine for gadget fetishists, and they had an interesting response. Besides the benefit of working on a full desktop OS (though SuSE Linux is available as a configuration), the size is right for a school desktop. Students get the benefit of the large keyboard, but should have no problem looking over the desk at the teacher in front. The device isn&#39;t so big it dominates a desk, nor so small that it isn&#39;t usable for long-term reading and writing assignments.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Of course, the biggest issue, then, is the price. Sure, there are plenty of schools buying carts of MacBooks at nearly $1000 a pop, but those programs are still few and far between. We imagine that for real adoption, the HP 2133 will have to be available, configured for education (stripped down, in other words), for half that, and that&#39;s an attainable price in the future of the Mini-Note PC. Plus, the device is built to take some abuse, either from business travelers or students, carrying it from home to school. Besides the screen, the shell is tough aluminum, and the hard drive uses accelerometers to park the drive heads before a fall. A feature we&#39;ve seen elsewhere, but no less welcome here.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;The best UMPC?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, has HP released the standard bearer for UMPCs? No, but that&#39;s not the point. Instead, HP seems to suggest that the UMPC idea is fundamentally flawed. Having seen devices scratch by with touchscreens and lousy input methods, we might be inclined to agree. In any case, the HP 2133 Mini-Note PC definitely has us curious for a longer look.&lt;/span&gt;</description><link>http://techieshangout.blogspot.com/2008/04/hands-on-with-hp-2133-mini-note-pc.html</link><author>noreply@blogger.com (Admin)</author><media:thumbnail xmlns:media="http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/" url="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb8xmwewG9Jp2JbFQcOlOEy1bTmclHLQAiMLBGyk43kKYp2ikXYyET3lPbu0_jCKAbzTmzTq75EIW6_2fypSMrRB9flHhqpMS8tQtO_44tPIgHcOrFmknx-INPA9IZFG0QtjIQ6HvaHRoW/s72-c/hp_2133_i00.jpg" height="72" width="72"/><thr:total>0</thr:total></item><item><guid isPermaLink="false">tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-351477903944972070.post-3194006791715864520</guid><pubDate>Mon, 07 Apr 2008 05:19:00 +0000</pubDate><atom:updated>2008-04-07T10:51:32.608+05:30</atom:updated><title>New internet that&#39;s 10,000 times faster</title><description>&lt;a onblur=&quot;try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}&quot; href=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQhTUv6run-pzwPmhGiEfx8_JqdLMamnDikHedd0PNS625cnWc96WOUO91WATGynfR98Xi-rl9KYgnpdyCTK9haLgeR99cc2d3UIh7qJbKTGT1VcWYAjYyPZ9nQYz2oS2KhmbJsDxu4XxF/s1600-h/photo.cms.jpg&quot;&gt;&lt;img style=&quot;margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;&quot; src=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQhTUv6run-pzwPmhGiEfx8_JqdLMamnDikHedd0PNS625cnWc96WOUO91WATGynfR98Xi-rl9KYgnpdyCTK9haLgeR99cc2d3UIh7qJbKTGT1VcWYAjYyPZ9nQYz2oS2KhmbJsDxu4XxF/s400/photo.cms.jpg&quot; alt=&quot;&quot; id=&quot;BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186369077377018274&quot; border=&quot;0&quot; /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;font-size:100%;&quot;&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;font-size:100%;&quot;&gt;The internet could soon be made obsolete by &quot;the grid&quot;. The lightning-fast replacement will be capable of downloading entire feature films within seconds. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;font-size:100%;&quot;&gt; At speeds about 10,000 times faster than a typical broadband connection, the grid will be able to send the entire Rolling Stones back catalogue from Britain to Japan in less than two seconds. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;font-size:100%;&quot;&gt; The latest spinoff from Cern, the particle physics centre that created the web, could also provide the kind of power needed to transmit holographic images; allow instant online gaming with hundreds of thousands of players, and offer high-definition video telephony for the price of a local call. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;font-size:100%;&quot;&gt;David Britton, professor of physics at Glasgow University and a leading figure in the grid project, believes grid technologies “could revolutionize society” . “With this kind of computing power , future generations can collaborate and communicate in ways older people like me cannot even imagine,” he said. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;font-size:100%;&quot;&gt; The power of the grid will become apparent this summer after what scientists at Cern have termed their “red button” day — the switching on of the Large Hadron Collider , the new particle accelerator built to probe the origin of the universe. The grid will be activated at the same time to capture the data it generates. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;font-size:100%;&quot;&gt; Cern, based near Geneva, started the grid computing project seven years ago when researchers realized LHC would generate annual data equivalent to 56m CDs — enough to make a stack 50 miles high. Ironically this meant that scientists at Cern — where Tim Berners-Lee invented the internet in 1989 — would no longer be able to use his creation for fear of causing a global collapse. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;font-size:100%;&quot;&gt; This is because the internet has evolved by linking together a hotchpotch of cables and routing equipment, much of which was originally designed for telephone calls and which lacks the capacity for high-speed data transmission. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;font-size:100%;&quot;&gt; By contrast, the grid has been built with dedicated fibre optic cables and modern routing centres, meaning there are no outdated components to slow the deluge of data. The 55,000 servers already installed are expected to rise to 200,000 in two years. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;font-weight: bold;font-size:100%;&quot; &gt; THE GRID &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;font-size:100%;&quot;&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;font-size:100%;&quot;&gt; While the web is a service for sharing information over the internet, the new system, Grid, is a service for sharing computer power and data storage capacity over the internet. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;font-size:100%;&quot;&gt; It will allow online gaming with hundreds of thousands of players, and offer highdefinition video telephony for the price of a local call &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;font-size:100%;&quot;&gt; In search of new drugs against malaria, it analysed 140m compounds — a task that would have taken an internet-linked PC 420 years &lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;</description><link>http://techieshangout.blogspot.com/2008/04/new-internet-thats-10000-times-faster.html</link><author>noreply@blogger.com (Admin)</author><media:thumbnail xmlns:media="http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/" url="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQhTUv6run-pzwPmhGiEfx8_JqdLMamnDikHedd0PNS625cnWc96WOUO91WATGynfR98Xi-rl9KYgnpdyCTK9haLgeR99cc2d3UIh7qJbKTGT1VcWYAjYyPZ9nQYz2oS2KhmbJsDxu4XxF/s72-c/photo.cms.jpg" height="72" width="72"/><thr:total>1</thr:total></item><item><guid isPermaLink="false">tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-351477903944972070.post-8591683286662959839</guid><pubDate>Mon, 07 Apr 2008 04:21:00 +0000</pubDate><atom:updated>2008-04-07T09:53:09.907+05:30</atom:updated><category domain="http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#">Tips</category><title>Use your digital video camera as a webcam</title><description>&lt;a onblur=&quot;try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}&quot; href=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT0TRXdahuEtkPLiSL4qdG_0YLImGAB3bLwdy5n5QXn4fZ8NW93j4zMUA0PcEer6cas_tJ_Tp954bxM7IOeaXv7Jxl6kTPybA7BD9E_p2UZQdYWJttP9jfB3XdBDYQCx1FIpHQNWLk9uXa/s1600-h/vidcap_full.jpg&quot;&gt;&lt;img style=&quot;margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;&quot; src=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT0TRXdahuEtkPLiSL4qdG_0YLImGAB3bLwdy5n5QXn4fZ8NW93j4zMUA0PcEer6cas_tJ_Tp954bxM7IOeaXv7Jxl6kTPybA7BD9E_p2UZQdYWJttP9jfB3XdBDYQCx1FIpHQNWLk9uXa/s320/vidcap_full.jpg&quot; alt=&quot;&quot; id=&quot;BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186354139480762738&quot; border=&quot;0&quot; /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It&#39;s possible to get the experience of webcam chat withot using a webcam. You can use your video camera as a webcam with the help of a video capture card. You can buy this video capture card in less money than the webcam.you have to follow the following steps:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1.Buy a video capture card. You can buy a TV tuner card/video captur card combo. In combo you will also be able to watch TV on your PC.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2.Then install the card and it&#39;s software into the PC.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3.If you bought just a capture card than you don&#39;t need to make any changes . You have to build a searchbot with your desired properties such as Colors , Tags , Locations , even Moods etc . Finally get instant Reports from your searchbot you have created . Cool ... ! Googlebot will crawling all or part of your site , if you have one . Googlebot finds pages by harvesting all of the links on every page it finds. It then follows these links to other web pages. New web pages must be linked to from another known page on the web in order to be crawled and indexed . Some of the new sites may be missed when the bot cannot able to read the content of the site .&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Restrict the information on your site : &lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;color: rgb(255, 255, 255);&quot;&gt;&lt;strong&gt;............&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;color: rgb(0, 0, 0);&quot;&gt;As a webmaster , you can prevent access or limit your informations for the bots . For doing so you need to create a robots.txt file . &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Robots.txt ?&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;/em&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;color: rgb(255, 255, 255);&quot;&gt;........&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/em&gt;This file provides restrictions to search engine robots (known as &quot;bots&quot;) that crawl the web. These bots are automated, and before they access pages of a site, they check to see if a robots.txt file exists that prevents them from accessing certain pages.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;color: rgb(255, 255, 255);&quot;&gt;.........&lt;/span&gt;You can create this robots.txt file by seeing this &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=40362&quot;&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;color: rgb(255, 102, 0);&quot;&gt;forum&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt; . You can allow and disallow the google bot from finding the information from your site .&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Types of Google Bots ::&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;em&gt;Googlebot &lt;/em&gt;: crawl pages from google web index and news index&lt;br /&gt;&lt;em&gt;Googlebot-Mobile&lt;/em&gt; : crawls pages for google mobile index&lt;br /&gt;&lt;em&gt;Googlebot-Image&lt;/em&gt; : crawls pages for google image index&lt;br /&gt;&lt;em&gt;Mediapartners-Google&lt;/em&gt; : crawls pages to determine AdSense content. Torrents occupies most of the internet users heart .So inorder to increase its speed , do the following :&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;color: rgb(255, 0, 0); font-weight: bold;&quot;&gt;To Do 1:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-weight: bold;&quot;&gt;Increase Your TCP Connections :&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Normally windows Restricts you to use only 10 TCP , to provide security to your Pc&#39;s . It would seem like the world&#39;s most popular music player the iPod was also up for grabs at a recent London Charity Auction – the model – the Apple iPod Shuffle. By utilizing this technology, the 9800 GTX allows users with a HybridPower compatible motherboard to power down their GeForce 9800 GTX graphics card when running less graphically intense applications. The result: a silent, low power PC experience.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In terms of performance, the 9800 GTX is among the most powerful single chipset GeForce card available today, delivering all-out gaming performance at extreme HD resolutions. This card can be combined into a 3-way SLI mode on one of the new XFX nForce 780i SLI or 790i Ultra SLI motherboards and therefore can ramp up of to 2.8 times the performance of a single GPU.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The new card is designed to work on PCI Express 2.0 slots, which are featured in nForce 7 series motherboard. In addition the 9800 GTX offers the highest data transfer speeds, enabling it to accommodate today’s bandwidth hungry games and 3D applications. Seems to be very good option.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now it is possible because of a freeware Gmail Drive [&lt;a href=&quot;http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/E-mail/Mail-Utilities/GMail-Drive-shell-extension.shtml&quot;&gt;Download Gmail Drive&lt;/a&gt;] which is a Shell Namespace Extension that creates a virtual filesystem around your Google Mail account,&lt;br /&gt;allowing you to use Gmail as a storage medium.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a onblur=&quot;try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}&quot; href=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghGOoSZuWmoEbYhgSi198uBIJkKo9-llSWfucUG1T-6rCZgvofW3_7vzpc_YTaKCYaPYoJ22yr_OwngtyjiTZ8ERClMnDr0a9czN6qzDxtF85IH538YZ9fCJnrgfTPMXa_6N7Fn75vKHtE/s1600-h/gmail+drive.jpg&quot;&gt;&lt;img style=&quot;cursor: pointer;&quot; src=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghGOoSZuWmoEbYhgSi198uBIJkKo9-llSWfucUG1T-6rCZgvofW3_7vzpc_YTaKCYaPYoJ22yr_OwngtyjiTZ8ERClMnDr0a9czN6qzDxtF85IH538YZ9fCJnrgfTPMXa_6N7Fn75vKHtE/s400/gmail+drive.jpg&quot; alt=&quot;&quot; id=&quot;BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5185380204106786530&quot; border=&quot;0&quot; /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;According to site &quot;GMail Drive creates a virtual file system on top of your Google &lt;span class=&quot;fullpost&quot;&gt;Gmail account and enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your Gmail account directly from inside Windows Explorer. GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer folder, where you can create new folders, copy and drag&#39;n&#39;drop files to.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When you create a new file using GMail Drive, it generates an e-mail and posts it to your account. The e-mail appears in your normal Inbox folder, and the file is attached as an e-mail attachment. GMail Drive periodically checks your mail account (using the Gmail search function) to see if new files have arrived and to rebuild the directory structures. But basically GMail Drive acts as any other hard-drive installed on your computer.&lt;br /&gt;You can copy files to and from the GMail Drive folder simply by using drag&#39;n&#39;drop like you&#39;re used to with the normal Explorer folders.&quot;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So now you can Gmail space as your storage memory drive in your system. You can cut, copy, paste files as in your system hard drive.&lt;/span&gt;</description><link>http://techieshangout.blogspot.com/2008/04/how-to-use-gmail-as-storage-drive.html</link><author>noreply@blogger.com (Admin)</author><media:thumbnail xmlns:media="http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/" url="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghGOoSZuWmoEbYhgSi198uBIJkKo9-llSWfucUG1T-6rCZgvofW3_7vzpc_YTaKCYaPYoJ22yr_OwngtyjiTZ8ERClMnDr0a9czN6qzDxtF85IH538YZ9fCJnrgfTPMXa_6N7Fn75vKHtE/s72-c/gmail+drive.jpg" height="72" width="72"/><thr:total>0</thr:total></item><item><guid isPermaLink="false">tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-351477903944972070.post-1776369186643023541</guid><pubDate>Fri, 04 Apr 2008 12:16:00 +0000</pubDate><atom:updated>2008-04-04T17:49:10.992+05:30</atom:updated><category domain="http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#">IPhone</category><title>Live Tracking Coming to iPhone Maps</title><description>&lt;a onblur=&quot;try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}&quot; href=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7krmIcXmP0WOAv5xtnHg2Eq1lCZlaaPYTVs9RjmyOwF1ryPAZNR3rr7F5i8mzx8_jysqeL_v0J_x0r3c53wDy1e4A3M1SaZnlFwclrmKwZnjRmF-dzopePHPeDFuwYi74yg3tJSLfzYuj/s1600-h/iPhoneLocation-tm.jpg&quot;&gt;&lt;img style=&quot;margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;&quot; src=&quot;https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7krmIcXmP0WOAv5xtnHg2Eq1lCZlaaPYTVs9RjmyOwF1ryPAZNR3rr7F5i8mzx8_jysqeL_v0J_x0r3c53wDy1e4A3M1SaZnlFwclrmKwZnjRmF-dzopePHPeDFuwYi74yg3tJSLfzYuj/s400/iPhoneLocation-tm.jpg&quot; alt=&quot;&quot; id=&quot;BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5185363522453808834&quot; border=&quot;0&quot; /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The iPhone&#39;s fake GPS is a useful feature, and stops you from looking too much like a map-studying tourist when in foreign lands, but the new iPhone 2.0 update will bring the service one step closer to real GPS.
