Missing by perception – that’s why you will remain an economic dwarf!!!

Lo, it’s damn wrong to use your eyes for thinking as well as your brains as the habitat of indoctrination in you. Many of you have overwhelmingly thought of being rich and that’s all; and maybe seeing things and taking them as your eyes interpret and not the brain. You have groomed yourselves into deviant thinkers who think money-money-money, riches-riches-riches; and that’s all, not even thinking of how to get the money and acquire riches.

A great percentage of economic dwarfism routes right from the way you view and understand issues, especially when it comes to economic development. Perception in this sense is referred to as the identification, interpretation and administering of information by common sense in order to understand and represent a situation. This is what the perpetrators of such economic dwarfism miss. They see things differently and wrongly in particular.

How development is perceived?

To a number of you guys out there, development has been translated as westernization. And the most erroneous instance is when one uses the eye to judge development. Poor guy, the development you are seeing is only virtual and imaginary, and that is why you are able to see it but can’t feel it – sorry, if you do not change, you will continue seeing it but without feeling it at all. Not all good looking expensive mansions depict development! It doesn’t, and not necessarily in a country like Uganda. If you start judging development depending on the number of vehicles and buildings you are seeing in Kampala, then you are damn wrong! This is simply seeing but failing to understand.

Development is identified differently by various countries, each with its own inference, although most of them seem universal. Does development mean richness, wealth or income levels? Many countries would consider the available quantity of resources to society as an indicator of development, these being income among social groups and services such as health care, education, communication and so on. To others, production, environmental protection, standards of living, and the like are also crucial indicators of development. It is however no wonder that countries with same level average incomes can substantially differ when it comes to people’s quality of life: access to education and health care, employment opportunities, availability of clean air and safe drinking water, the threat of crime, human rights, equality, and so on.

Weird perceptions

It is unfortunate the way you see things – it’s just like seeing a very beautiful girl without recognizing her beauty. If you can’t see her beauty, then it is you with something wrong.

How dazzling a body of a car is, does not render it a good car, and there are many sayings related to this phenomenon – such as “do not judge a book by its cover”.

Are you the kind who judges wealth people depending on their expenditure? Then you are a damn wrong judge! You cannot even differentiate between a big spender and a rich man! Most people you call rich are only big spenders, and that is all. Big spenders are kind of people who always buy great or big things, and probably that is all they have. A big spender can buy a posh car worth 150,000 US dollars and that is all he has, but when you see him driving, you tend to consider him rich – a reach man with no house, no land, or business, but rather with a huge bank loan and dwelling on public funds! What matters? Is it the picture he paints or its worth? How do you judge?

You even can’t tell the difference between being rich and having money! You can have money but when you are actually not rich. Not all people with money are rich and not all rich people have money. Suppose I have a farm of a thousand heads cattle on 100 acres of land and another person has just borrowed twenty million shillings for a business start up – who is rich, uh, how do you judge?

You blame your failure on lack of capital!

It is a common practice that whenever you tell people to have something to do they will always tell you that they have no capital – No capital? Of what you even don’t know! I thought you first come up with ideas, develop them and accordingly your financial requirement will be projected.

The high tendency of claiming that you need capital when you even don’t know how much it is, or even what you want it for is the most erroneous being of your brain! A more significant and elaborate way of using the mind as your fundamental capital is given in part two of this article, “what should be done?”

You’re an admirer of impression

Many men and women out there spend almost 80% of their time struggling to look rich rather than striving to acquire wealth – but why? You prefer to be seen as a rich person and don’t care whether you are actually rich?

Keeping in disguise is one tendency which will keep people always dependant, although many feel comfortable with it as they claim of not being vulnerable to stress while they are behind someone no matter what he/she takes them through. This is where people do not prefer to start jobs, but rather want to be with benefits as cars, housing, loans and probably looking at the status of their positions as a prestigious.

According to Caucasian in his article: BLACKS DON'T READ, he asserts that: Some blacks even neglect their children to have the latest Tommy or FUBU. And they still think that having a Mercedes, and a big house gives the "Status" or that they have achieved the American Dream. They are fools! The vast majority of their people are still in poverty because their greed holds them back from collectively making better communities. With the help of BET, and the rest of their Black media that often broadcasts destructive images into their own homes, we will continue to see huge profits like those of Tommy and Nike. (Tommy Hilfiger has even jeered them, saying he doesn't want their money, and look at how the fools spend more with him than ever before!). They'll continue to show off to each other while we build solid communities with the profits from our businesses that we market to them.

You don’t read!!!

It is very unfortunate that you don’t read! Not reading is the most indispensable perpetrator of ignorance, and ignorance itself is poverty. One Caucasian elaborated on this in his article titled, BLACKS DON'T READ: They Are Still Our Slaves. He asserts that the blacks will continue to be the white man’s slaves as they do not read. To some extent he could be right, but this is the time to prove him wrong – if you want anyway.

Caucasian laments:

We can continue to reap profits from the Blacks without the effort of physical slavery. Look at the current methods of containment that they use on themselves: IGNORANCE, GREED, and SELFISHNESS.

Their IGNORANCE is the primary weapon of containment. A great man once said, "The best way to hide something from Black people is to put it in a book." We live now in the Information Age. They have gained the opportunity to read any book on any subject through the efforts of their fight for freedom, yet they refuse to read. There are numerous books readily available at Borders, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon.com, not to mention their own Black Bookstores that provide solid blueprints to reach economic equality (which should have been their fight all along), but few read consistently, if at all. GREED is another powerful weapon of containment.

Blacks, since the abolition of slavery, have had large amounts of money at their disposal. Last year they spent 10 billion dollars during Christmas, out of their 450 billion dollars in total yearly income (2.22%). Any of us can use them as our target market, for any business venture we care to dream up, no matter how outlandish, they will buy into it. Being primarily a consumer people, they function totally by greed. They continually want more, with little thought for saving or investing. They would rather buy some new sneaker than invest in starting a business.

SELFISHNESS, ingrained in their minds through slavery, is one of the major ways we can continue to contain them. One of their own, W. E. B. Dubois said that there was an innate division in their culture. A "Talented Tenth" he called it. He was correct in his deduction that there are segments of their culture that has achieved some "form" of success. However, that segment missed the fullness of his work. They didn't read that the "Talented Tenth" was then responsible to aid the Non-Talented Ninety Percent in achieving a better life. Instead, that segment has created another class, a Buppie class that looks down on their people or aids them in a condescending manner. They will never achieve what we have. Their selfishness does not allow them to be able to work together on any project or endeavor of substance. When they do get together, their selfishness lets their egos get in the way of the goal. Their so-called help organizations seem to only want to promote their name without making any real change in their community. They are content to sit in conferences and conventions in our hotels, and talk about what they will do, while they award plaques to the best speakers, not the best doers. Is there no end to their selfishness?

A company profile basically shows your potential clients what you do, your eligibility and the competency to do it. It is written for the purpose of advertising your products/services or if requested for, especially when bidding for a given job. A company profile for a service provider may differ from a supplier or manufacturer, however, the difference is minor. Following is a general guide for easily writing an effective company profile using a step by step approach.

Step 1: Coming up with the cover page

Think clearly about the appearance of your cover. It may contain a design, an artwork or a photograph which reflects what you do. It could be a project you have done before or an innovative item which would force any one who sees it to pick interest of knowing more. Make sure that the title (Company Profile) of the document and the company name and logo are well placed and clearly seen. You can strategically place the key services/products of your company and finally the company address, especially at the bottom of the page. If you have any standard certificates or accreditation, they may be revealed on the cover page.

Step 2: Compiling the introductory matter

You can start with a nearly blank page with only your company name and logo, most preferably placed in the middle or at the top of the page. This can then be followed by the table of contents. Write the company background, vision and mission statements. End the introductory matter by stating important company information like office location, subsidiaries or sister companies, if any; legal status-Registration number, tax registration – VAT, TIN, Trading Licenses; Bankers and account details.

Step 3: Writing the body of the company profile Company organizational structure

Show your company organization structure starting from the top level management to the lowest level staff members. You can work revealing the different departments and the responsible persons involved. This can easily be shown on an organogram. Show the list of the key personnel including their positions, qualifications and experience. Company products/services Show the scope of services you provide or your products. Service providers could be insurers, bankers, contractors, consultants, schools and so on. Producers may include cloth makers, electronics equipment manufacturers, cement manufacturers, food processors, and so on. At this stage the prices can also be shown, especially for products and rates for some services. Company experience Show all outstanding projects you have done before. It is also paramount to supplement your projects with pictures if applicable. You can also give the volumes of works you have handled in terms of cost/value. Company machinery, plant and equipment If it is necessary to supplement your ability to handle some kind of work requiring machinery, plant and equipment, please state them by listing. You can even further elaborate them by use of photographs.

Step 4: Others

There are many other items you may need to involve, however, in most cases they are first requested by particular clients or projects. These may be annexed to the company profile. ·

Bank credentials: These may be required in order to assess whether the company possesses a sound financial base to successfully accomplish a given type of project. Bank statements may be involved. · Audited accounts: These may be required to assess the ability of the company to handle the funds of the target project. Specialized companies make audit reports for other companies. ·

Legal documents: These are required to establish whether your company is legal and legally allowed to execute such type of project being applied for. Certificate of incorporation is an example of legal documents.

Tax documents: These are required to assess the tax paying trend of the company. Most clients are not be interested in tax defaulting companies. ·

Resumes for key personnel: Full curriculum vitae of the key personnel to handle the target project are necessary.

Be very careful with the nature of company profile you intend to write. Understand what you require and what you don’t, then proceed. Always remember that writing a company profile is not story telling, so limit the wording as much as possible and use photos as much as possible. How do you perceive it?

Mathematics may at times seem to be elementary, especially at the basic and intermediate levels of learning; an instance that leads to a number of learners perceive the subject as a mere dealing with complex and hard operations on numbers or figures and that is all! Whereas, others are simply convinced that the subject matter in mathematics is extremely hard, and is only manageable by those few who are talented.

Learners with such perceptions approach mathematical problems by applying the steps as earlier crammed or merely assuming addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of figures, resulting to the learner obtaining a correct answer but when s/he cannot account for his/her answer.

Where is math?

Nearly all of us start learning mathematics before going to school, learn it while at school and use it later after school. Children at home may learn counting from Calendars, Child games, TV channels and so on. They learn shapes from Furniture, Utensils, Electrical appliances, and so on. At school we deal with more formal and elementary work such as arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, measures, and so on. Then later deal with some applied mathematics in the fields of business, construction, science, manufacturing, and so on, hence making mathematics relevant throughout the lives of a cross-section of people worldwide.

Therefore, learning of mathematics requires approaches that match the learners’ goals with clear perceptions and enhancing their rational mathematics understanding in relation to their needs, ability and experience as much as possible.

Are you disturbed at home? Do you lack resources such as text books and other learning materials? Look for possible solutions to these problems or seek for advice from your teachers or respected educationists.

· Your potential opportunities involve those chances you have in place. They are mostly resources which can aid you to learn. Identify, properly, plan and utilize all your time, teachers, parents, friends, books, funds, and so on. Where applicable you can also consider weather conditions, your school location, scholarships or bursaries, educational facilities and so on. These could be there to help you out for your success.

· Your learning goals involve what you want to achieve from studying Mathematics at this any level, and work towards it within well planned parameters. Your target goals could be gaining competence in the subject, passing your examinations and hence attaining a good grade academic paper, working towards attaining a certain course of study at a further stage of study, and so on.

How to Critique Written Works

How often do you read an article, a paper or a book and get the content with ease? To what extent have these works changed or influenced you? Think about it and find out why.

The potential for any written piece of work to capture the readers’ interests, arouse their feelings or put them to action starts from the writer and reviewers’ knowledge, skills, techniques, experiences and style.

Writing is one task, and perfecting is another. Writing may be so easy; however, crafting it to expected standards involves a number of actions by the writer and other respected parties. Apart from your qualities as a writer, you may need another party to help you learn the effectiveness of your work to potential readers.

When you have written, you may require someone to help you understand the effectiveness of your work. It may not matter who takes on to critique your work; however, you need to balance by having atleast a lay person, a peer and a specialist reviewer.

Study the following key concepts for which you can base your review for given written works.

Rationale of the paper: Trace for the major reasons why, and the purposes for which the work is written. Once you have got them and you are sure they are feasible, check for the certainties that the work serves its purpose. If it does not, suggest addition of the missing points, abandonment of the erroneous points or call for necessary revision to eliminate ambiguities.

Target audience for the paper: Find out and understand the type of audience the paper is addressed to. Understand thoroughly their interest in the subject, knowledge and experience about the subject and what would arouse their feelings towards the work. Once the writer seems convincing that his/her audience has been catered for, then you can consider his/her work audience focused.

Content coverage and depth: Since you now know what the audience is, then check whether the content in the work is suitable or meaningful to them. Check this in terms of coverage, where you have to consider moving across the content or in terms of depth where you have to consider moving vertically. If you have two 12-pages papers, one with 3 topics and the other with 5 topics; then we can comment as follows. The one with 3 topics is characterized as being narrow (by coverage) but deep (by depth). The one with 5 topics is characterized as being shallow (by depth) but wide (by coverage). Ascertain whether the content is enough, little or of a satisfactory extent, then advise accordingly.

Substance in content: Some subject matter may not be meaningful at all, and this is very dangerous. Check for validity and accuracy of the content. Make notice of wrong content or comment on the quality of content in the work.

Approach: This is a determining factor of whether your content will be easily comprehended right from the start. Moving readers from a known point towards that which is being learnt is important. Check for established ways of communicating to the audience in terms of language, concepts development or illustration. In your critique, comment on how the writer has managed to capture the readers’ attention and allowing for a desire for continued reading.

Organization: Check for the arrangement of ideas in the work, with emphasis on whether the work is flowing, has breaks or it is mixed up. The writer has to be systematic while laying out ideas, starting with the stronger towards the less strong ones (or vice versa). Put emphasis on the chronology and coherence of the work as you comment on the writing.

Presentation: This involves how visually the paper appeals and the language used. The visual aspect covers the page layout, formatting and illustrations, if any. Some times, standard formats are followed, so be careful to establish the type of format adopted. Comment accordingly.

Finishing: This is concerned with the grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, punctuations, language usage, vocabularies’ usage, and so on. Not all hard words are vocabularies, but some are key words which may not be left out but only require definition or description. Some times this is known as the mechanics of the work.

Outstanding features: Check for any possible creative or innovative attributes of the work. Ascertain whether they are positive or negative and assess accordingly.

While critiquing any type of writing, be objective, with a focused rationale. Be balanced with out bias. The writer must also be flexible enough, although sometimes he/she does not need to take all advice as given.
