Just like Apple’s App Store for iPhone and iPod Touch, Google too has its own App Store called Google Android Market. Though the Android market is relatively news, there are thousands of Apps already and if you have just bought an Android phone, it is quite obvious that you will be dying to try out some Free Android apps on your brand new phone. There are hundreds of Free Apps already in Android Market which makes your job of picking up the best apps even more difficult. 5. PicSay

PicSay is a small app that lets you edit and modify photos on your phone. You can add speech balloons, any of a range of text styles, and images like hearts and stars to your photos. Or if you’re feeling less whimsical, you can modify the picture’s contrast, tint, hue and saturation levels; flip and rotate your image; and do other basic editing tasks.

9. ShopSavvy

ShopSavvy is all about the deals. Enter a product name or barcode (using the keypad or the camera), and ShopSavvy identifies the product, searches the Web and local chain stores for the best prices, and collects reviews of the item.

10. Ringdroid

Ringdroid app for Android lets you create free ringtones from your favorite songs. Just load a song onto your SD card, select start and end points, and save it as a ringtone, alert or notification. You can even record your own ringtones with Ringdroid.

11. Google Voice

Google Voice is a new service from Google that gives the user his own personal phone number. You then can use your Google Voice number to make phone calls or send SMS messages from the web. And the Android app lets users do the same from their Android device. This means users can make and receive calls and text messages on your Google Voice number through your phone. Google Voice also archives all voice mails and SMS messages online, so you will never lose that important message.

12. ActionComplete

ActionComplete is a high-tech to-do list for your Droid phone. It makes it easy to organize your tasks and appointments. You can even set reminders that will pop up based on where you are, allowing you to remind yourself of certain tasks at the office, others at the home, and so on.

13. Astrid

Astrid is a solid task manager developed by Google. Tasks are easy to add and easy to check off when you’re done. You can also add a timer to help you build that sense of urgency.

14. TooDo

TooDo is another task management application, with online syncing, either with Toodledo or Remember the Milk. Synchronization is both ways – tasks created or marked completed on TooDo can be seen online, and vice versa. It also has a couple of really nice features – first, you can add voice, photo, and video notes to your tasks, and second, you can set geographical reminders to pop up whenever you’re in a specific location (based on the GPS).

15. Meebo IM

Meebo is a free Instant Messaging app that supports AIM, MSN, Yahoo, MySpace IM, Google Talk, Jabber and ICQ. You can also sign in using a Meebo account and your chat history will be saved forever, and can be accessed from anywhere by logging in at meebo.com

16. TuneWiki

TuneWiki is a replacement for Android’s built-in media player, offering a number of nice features. Most notable is the lyric scroll, which pulls lyrics off the Internet and scrolls them along with the song. It can also be integrated with Last.fm and Shoutcast radio streaming, YouTube video search.

17. Meridian

Meridian is yet another media player app which can play back MP3, OGG, MP4, and 3GPP files, and offers up basic playlist and gesture support. It’s pretty ugly, but it gets the job done.

18. Flixster

Flixster does one thing, and it does it well: Movies. It keeps you up to date on everything new in the movie world, be it for the box office or the rental store, complete with movie times (by way of GPS), community-driven user reviews, and trailers.

19. PostBot

PostBot is an open source app for posting text and images to Wordpress blogs. You can set up multiple blogs and choose which to post to from the settings. This is a great little app for posting quick thoughts and photos from your Android phone.

20. PF Voicemail+

PhoneFusion’s Voicemail+ offers a really slick way to get visual voicemail on your Android phone. You need to register for a free account and forward your voicemail to them. Once it’s set up, you’ll be able to scroll through your voicemails, listen to the ones you want and ignore the ones you don’t, delete messages, and respond by text.

21. Video Player

Video Player app from Android Tapp does exactly what it says: It plays videos, a function that Google mysteriously chose to leave out of Android. Video Player isn’t fancy; you can play, pause, move backward and forward through the video, and that’s it.

22. Sherpa

Sherpa is an Android app that helps you find new places based on your own personal preferences. Sherpa “learns” your likes and dislikes, then uses your location information to suggest restaurants, stores, and attractions in your area that might float your boat.

23. GDocs

Since Android is a Google product, the absence of an app for viewing and editing documents and spreadsheets from Google Docs would just be wrong. That’s where Art Wild’s GDocs comes in, allowing users to view spreadsheets and to create, edit and view word processor documents from their Google Docs account. Please note that the editing is strictly text-only.

24. Imeem Mobile

You can play music off your phone’s SD card or stream music over the Internet with Imeem’s mobile player. Imeem offers several ways to listen once you’ve created a free user account: Upload tracks from your computer and listen to them under the “My Music” tab, create on-the-fly radio stations from music similar to your favorite artists using the “Search” function, or listen to featured stations put together by Imeem’s staff and other users.

25. Palringo

Palringo is similar to Meebo which integrates multiple IMs into 1 app. You can access Yahoo Messenger, AIM, Windows Live Messenger, Facebook and other IM networks with Palringo. You can create groups at will, but only other Palringo members can take part.

Just around a month back I had shared some cool Google Wave gadgets which I had listed down just after getting a Google Wave invite. A month down the line, I thought of revisiting Google Wave to check out any new gadgets to play around it. Most of them are still in beta, so be aware that few of them might not work as expected, but most of them will.

1. Dr. Musical Wave

Dr. Musical Wave is similar to Lasty, which we saw in the previous list of Google Gadgets. It tells what a last.fm user is listening, Music compatibility between people, Similar artists to an artist you like and more. The good thing is, all of this with pictures to make it look colorful. Just add dr-music@appspot.com to your contact list and then to your wave.

2. Napkin

Napkin is a Google Wave Gadget written in Adobe Flex that allows you to do quick “back of a napkin” sketches within a Wave. It lets you draw or plot or mind map. Here is the direct import link to get started with collaborative drawing gadget for Google Wave.

3. ClackPoint

The ClackPoint gadget for Google Wave enables you to add audio-conferencing to your waves with a single click. Each wave with the ClackPoint gadget installed has its own private audio-conference, with participation available directly through the browser using our Flash 10 plugin, or via telephone using the provided code. 4. Code Snippet

This is a default gadget available via Google Wave. So you must install it as an extension. it is simple and easy to use and I find it useful as well.

5. Dicerolling robot

Dicerolling robot for Google wave allow rolls in a lot of systems (d20, NWoD, GURPS, etc) with free switching between them and it allows each system to use its own syntax and result display that is most convenient for that system. Add dice-y@appspot.com to your contacts list and then to your Wave to get started.

6. Collaborative Sudoku

Collaborative Sudoku is a simple Sudoku game gadget for Google wave. Check out the direct import link to get started with Sudoku gadget on Google wave.

7. Ribbit Conference Call

The Ribbit Conference Gadget allows Wave participants to escalate an online collaboration session to a real-time audio communications session, allowing participants to talk with each other while collaborating. 8. Ribbit Message Gadget

The Ribbit Message Gadget allows Wave participants to connect to a Wave by calling an associated dial-in number and leaving an audio message. The Ribbit Message Gadget displays a transcription of the audio message along with the actual audio message attached as an MP3 file. A Ribbit Message “robot” automatically tracks recorded messages and responds to requests from the gadget. It is not yet available for download, watch out this space for an update.

9. Hobbity

Hobbity is a Google Wave plugin that will change your long URLs to shorter ones. It uses migre.me API to shorten the URL. Add hobbiturl@appspot.com to your contacts to get started.

10. Polly

Creates a Wave to poll recipients and store their answers. Users are able to dynamically alter their choices. Add polly-wave@appspot.com to your contacts link and then to your wave to get started.

Fix for the iPhone Worm – ‘ikee’

If your iPhone is jailbroken and if you see the below image as your home screen, it is time to tighten your ~~pants~~ security and fix your worm affected iPhone.

A hacker named ikex has created what’s apparently the first iPhone worm, and it’s currently infecting jailbroken iPhones across Australia. The “ikee” worm, as it’s being called, takes advantage of the fact that jailbroken iPhones with SSH installed all have the same default root password of “alpine,” and once in the system it changes your wallpaper to an image of Rick Astley and then tries to install itself on other jailbroken iPhones on the network. On the top of the screen it says “ikee is never going to give you up”. If you have been affected, luckily there is no harm done as this virus was more of an experiment than anything else.

Once an iPhone has been infected by ikee, it automatically starts searching for other iPhone’s on the cellular network that use the root:alpine username/password combination. Once it finds another vulnerable iPhone, it installs itself and begins the process again and this goes on like a nuclear chain reaction. ikee virus will disable SSH access on your iPhone and will change the background image to that of “Rick Astley” as can be seen in the screenshot above.

To protect your jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch from ikee virus attack or any other similar attacks in the future, you must change your default SSH password now.

How to Change Default SSH Password and Fix ikee Virus on iPhone?

1. Go to Cydia and search for MobileTerminal app and then install it on your iPhone. Once you have successfully installed MobileTerminal, reboot your iPhone.

2. Start MobileTerminal app and type the following command to change the root password

login

Press enter. And then type

root

as your login and ‘alpine‘ as your current root password.
After logging in, Type

passwd

Press enter.

3. It will now prompt you to enter a new password (twice). Simply enter your desired new password again.

Now. it should all be fine.
