Jay and I were honored to be volunteer at the big celebration organized by One Colorado in honor of the passage of Civil Unions in Colorado. It was incredible to see the 100+ couples who came to make their unions legal and to photograph a few of the ceremonies. I look forward to a day in the near future where we can participate in a similar event celebrating full marriage equality.

This is what the line of couples waiting to get their civil union license looked like.

B is for Beckett – Englewood Family Portraits

It is so amazing to watch Beckett grow up. I can’t speak for Allie, but I am always blown away by how much he learns every time I see him. And now, he has a brother or sister on the way! Allie and I spent some time with Beckett at home from the time he woke up to enjoying some early afternoon play time. And if you can’t already tell from the photos, B loves books and to have people read to him. I know he will be a bookworm early!

Tara and Peter stroll South Pearl – Englewood Wedding Photography

Allie and I had a wonderful time earlier this winter taking a nice stroll up the quaint and beautiful South Pearl. We really enjoyed getting to know Tara and Peter and finding out all about their wedding this summer. These two are clearly perfect for each other, and we can’t wait to celebrate their special day with them this summer, we know it will be a blast!

Personal – Allie and Jay do DC

It’s become a bit of a tradition at this point to share with y’all our travels around the country.. but when we went to DC we really only took our phones.

Since that was the case, I thought I may as well share with you DC through our Instagram photos! Hope you enjoy… it’s not quite the same as our Chicago trip, but still it was a really fun time, meeting up with a friend for dinner and of course walking all over the city to see the amazing monuments.

So we’re a bit behind over here and we missed posting these photos before Christmas. . .but who doesn’t want to relive some of the pre-holiday joy in the strange limbo between the 25th and New Years? This lovely family is book-club friends with Jay’s sister in law. We loved visiting with them and are so glad they asked us to come over while they decorated the tree. I have to say, doing something together as a family is a perfect set up for a great family photo shoot.

On the Road Again – Allie and Jay in Chicago

At the beginning of September, I got a text message from Allie that told me I had to request November 30 off for a very special surprise. I had no idea what to expect, but sent out the emails necessary to take a vacation day for November 30th. I am not big on surprises, so naturally pestered Allie relentlessly to try and find out what was going on. All I was able to (finally!) get out of her was that we were going on a trip and to pack for really cold weather; that was all. No way to get her to tell me if we were staying in Colorado, driving, flying, or any other info that I could use to deduce. All I was told was that it is someplace I have wanted to go for a few years.

Allie has had the chance to take a few trips this year, but overall we have been pretty much only in Colorado for the year, except of course for our epic road trip to Pahrump. Before that, the last time we really had the opportunities to take any trips was back when we met up in Spain during study abroad. Needless to say, I was stoked the morning of our flight when she played Chicago by Frank Sinatra as I was doing some last minute packing. While there, we had some delicious food and enjoyed walking through the city seeing the sites. Just before the trip, I bought a little toy lens and had a great time playing with it on the trip. Hopefully you all enjoy this beautiful city as much as I did!

Kristin and Eli got married: Boettcher Mansion Wedding Photographer

Kristin and Eli are the best. They met in working in Denali National Park and are a truly wonderful, laid back, perfect Alaskan-Coloradan couple. We truly loved working with them and meeting the community that came from far and wide to celebrate their marriage. We meet a lot of special people with awesome weddings but there were 3 things about this wedding that made me turn to Jay and say THAT WAS THE BEST EVER:

1. Kristin’s wedding dress? Hands down the loveliest wedding dress I’ve seen so far.

2. Most amazing toast. Eli’s dad stole the title from the maid of honor at this wedding (whose amazing toast was an extended metaphor about circus cookies and animal crackers) by writing an original song about Kristin and Eli and singing it for his toast. Everybody cried.

3. Greatest wedding play list of all time. Can Fat Bottomed Girls be a required reception dance floor song from now on? Because watching Kristin and Eli’s friends they met at Denali belt the chorus made me realize that its potential for dance party greatness has been severely underestimated.

While I wish I could bring you all the magic of the toast and the playlist, I’ll have to settle for some pictures. Hopefully you can get even a tiny feel for how great these people are.

A fall walk – Cherry Creek Family Photos

Lakeside Family Photos

Jay and I are proud to be a part of Red Thread Sessions, a great organization that connects families who have recently adopted with photographers in there area for a free session to celebrate their new addition to the family. When Christina asked us to photograph her family after finding us through the Red Thread Directory we were really excited to hang out with her awesome family at Lakeside Amusement Park. This was Christina’s idea and she picked an awesome backdrop for family photos.
