New nokia E72 Firmware 52.5 in works

Looks like a new firmware for Nokia E72 (RM-530) is work in progress. Noticed this update in Navifirm. But couldn't get past this screen to find out the product code it's available for.

Firmware Update 051.018 comes with a host of changes to the Nokia E72’s software, making for a better and more stable user experience. Along with fixes for known bugs, and stability improvements, Nokia has also included updates to the Nokia E72’s web browser, QuickOffice, Ovi Music client and Lotus Notes Traveller.

How to hard reset or soft reset Nokia E72

To hard reset your Nokia E72 you just have to press *#7370# and press Dial. The phone will request the security code that is by default 12345. Please be aware that you will loose all the data in your phone, so you should backup all relevant information.

If you want to soft reset your Nokia E72 (English) you need to press *#7780# and then Dial. The default security code is 12345. Once you complete this, your phone will come back to factory settings, but you will not loose personal data. Anyway it is recommended to make a backup before performing any of the mentioned procedures.

Apple clashes with Nokia

This antenna gate doesn't seem to end. First apple reacts that the
antenna design is still evolving and the flaw seen in iphone 4 is an
industry wide known issue. Making this worst, it picked on its peers
like nokia, samsung, motorola etc. The mobile giants responded
unanimously rubbishing apple for making callous and baseless remarks.
The apple-hatred cloud saw further drift here as no one liked apple's
blame game strategy. To further mess up the harmony, apple
demonstrated that Nokia's N97 mini suffers a similar 'clutch'
syndrome. This shows how self-centered apple's marketing strategy is.
It is literally rampaging its peers, thinking people will be oriented
towards their cheap statements. Somebody should tell the world's best
salesman 'jobs' to be sportive and admit its failure. Not everyone out
there would be mesmerized with these so called enchanting press
releases apple make. Stop this jobs !!!

Mobile phones to replace PC soon ?

Life has become so simple for us now. We stay connected 24X7 with our loved ones & vice versa. With the advent of more sophisticated technology in the mobile industry, we are now seeing many once independent gadget/functionality, integrated into the mobile phone. Gone are those days where one needed separate devices like digital camera, camcorder, FM radio, torch light, calculator, walkman, gps receiver, webcam, alarm clock, address book and so forth. Mobile phones these days are becoming more and more intelligent and more and more faster. I’ve started to believe that probably in few years time, it may even become our primary home or work device. Though there would still exist external I/O devices like a large lcd screens or a ergonomically advanced keyboard/mouse for better interfacing, the mobile phone would have all the power in it to do all the things possible in the world.

We already have nexus one, a 1Ghz phone with more than 512 MB RAM. Imagine the wonders to unfold in about 3 years time with Smartphones becoming more powerful and smarter
Moore’s law states, “that the number of transistors per square inch on integrated circuits had doubled every year since the integrated circuit was invented”. This has been the case with the mobile industry as well. I believe that the power of mobile phone doubles every 2 years. In fact, the advent of new innovation and inventions in this field is accelerating the advancements much further. I doubt if we don’t see a 3 Ghz and at least 2gb ram phone with roughly ¼ terabyte of storage in the next 3 years. So when we are there, may be around 2013 end, then comes the question of PC. All we need would be this device which we can carry around. Imagine having the entire control of your life in your hands.

To draw some analogies, lets analyze how Nokia has been progressing in this field so far and predict what’s in store after 3 years.

As you can see Nokia seems to be doubling its processor speed and RAM every 2 years. Since we already have ARM11 1 Ghz Snapdragon processor based phone in the market in the form of Google Nexus one and HTC Desire, I'm assuming Nokia would root for a similar device by H2 of 2010. So at this pace, we should definitely expect to see a powerful phone by 2013. which might clock in the upwards of 2.5+GHz and a RAM capacity of ~2GB.

On a side note, Qualcomm is slated to release 8X72: dual-core, each core clocked at 1.5 GHz; capable of decoding 1080p. The race to making mobile phones a life saving device is catching fire.

Nokia launches C3, C6, E5 with Qwerty keyboard with low price

GLOBAL – The Nokia C3 is the first of three new messaging devices to break cover today. It’s also the first Series 40 device to come sporting a full QWERTY keyboard, but that’s not the only trick up its slender sleeve.
Designed to put messaging and social networking in the palm of your hand this tiny tyke comes packing access to your favorite Instant Messaging, social networking and email accounts, all courtesy of Nokia Messaging. Read on after the jump to find out what else is in store.
With Nokia Messaging comes one click access to Ovi Mail (for easy email account creation right on the device) and Ovi Chat (for keeping in touch with your friends). The Nokia C3 also boasts conversational SMS chat, so you can keep on top of your text dialogue and you’ll find your favorite contacts right there on the home screen, where you’ll also see news and alerts.
Not content with just being a social butterfly the C3 also boasts Wi-Fi connectivity, a two-megapixel camera, 2.4-inch screen and support for up to 8GB of storage on a microSD card.
The C3 will be available in the second quarter of 2010 in a medley of colors including golden white, slate grey and not forgetting hot pink and is expected to retail at about €90 before taxes and subsidies.

Yep, you read that right. The Nokia E5 is for perfect for anyone who doesn’t like charging their phone. Too often.
Packing the latest version of S60 3rd edition, the Nokia E5 boasts a suite of home screen features including one-touch access to your favorite contacts, and your favorite social networks. It also boasts Facebook updates direct to your contacts list, so you can always see what your friends are up to and, as it packs the latest version of Nokia Messaging, you get full Instant Messaging functionality too.

Configure Xbox to play any video formats

Also, are you bored of watching videos (divx, xvid, rmvb etc) that you download over the Internet in the tiny screen of your laptop or pc monitor? Want a big screen experience, here is a simple solution if you own an Xbox and a big screen tv.
Step 1: Disable media sharing in your laptop/pc with XBOX if you haven't already.
Step 2: Go to http://tversity.com/ Download this neat little software, that is a media server and also acts like media sharing emulator.
Step 3: Get all the Codecs, you need to view any format in your regular windows media player. (I recommend K-Lite video codec pack). Ensure your video is playing good on windows media player.
Step 4: Add few exceptions to your windows firewall as below. For any other firewall refer the tversity support and faqs.

Step 5: See if you are able to access this site from your pc. http://localhost:41952/
Step 6: Now add/share all the videos you want using the above site or the desktop software which comes with tversity package.

Step 7: Log on to your xbox

Step 8: Disconnect your existing connection with your pc.

Step 9: Go to the slide media, then Video>>computer, and yes to continue.

Step 10: There you go. Your pc on the tversity. Now all the media files in your pc is viewable through Xbox. Aint that cool, huh ?

Research before buying mobile phones

Interested in buying a new mobile fone? Don't get lured by a fancy looking fone or words of a compelling seller. I have known people who buy fones in the above mentioned cases, end up switching their instruments very often. They feel either dissatisfied soon or get discontent with what they have. Avoid the rush, think why you need a new fone and for what purpose. Below are few pointers I strongly recommend one should consider/research before buying a new mobile fone.

1) The ultimate need for a mobile fone is for proper and continued communication. A fone not having the following features is deemed unfit.

Loud ring tone
Satisfactory microphone/speaker
Excellent continuous talk and battery supporting longer standby
Good Antenna for good signal reception
Light weight and good ergonomics for gripping the fone (hate slim fones for this reason)
Comfortable Keypad (so that you don't get irked while keying in long sms)
Bright display visible in broad daylight

My Opinion: Preferably go for a clamshell model, as it would offer best of all the above options. Think! Since there are two halves in a clamshell, one for the display screen and other for the keypad, there is lot of room at both ends to add reliable features to the fone with less compromise. 3) Check the ratings of these phones in these websites and see the specifications and the user ratings/comments.

Sure shot way to make your Internet fast and secure

When you type a website address in your browser, you can see a status in the Status bar “Looking up www.blahblah.com”. Sometimes, it takes lot of time for the lookup and it might make your browsing experience miserable. This is quite evident with broadband services which do not have good DNS services.

DNS, huh? DNS is a domain name system. It is nothing but just like a telephone directory service. It converts the human-readable web address that we type to ip address understood by the web. So most of the Internet service providers especially Airtel broadband, takes time to resolve this address.
To get away with all these, there is a service called OpenDNS. Simply follow these steps to increase you speed.

Go to Control Panel >> Network Connections
Right click on your connection >> Properties

Go to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) >> Properties

Check "Use the following DNS Server addresses" and enter these values
- 208.67.222.222
- 208.67.220.220

Click "OK" and "Close".
Close all browser windows and enter the address which had a problem in look up earlier and see the difference now.

Simply click the bottom right icon and flip it from firefox to ie, to view your website instantly in internet explorer within the firefox website.

Also, add regular websites to internet explorer bookmark in firefox, to automatically see the websites content in Internet explorer in the future when you open it in firefox.

Monitor Data usage with Nokia Logs

Until today I didn't realize Nokia's log manager is so powerful. It not only maintains your daily call usage, but also maintains your data usage. It very nicely categorizes your data usage based on the mode (packet/WLAN/Voice) used. If you go to the settings there is also a good option to filter based on these modes. I find this very useful as I don't need to rely on any external application to monitor my data usage. Try it now if you havent, its great.

Similar to sync in Nokia phones.
Not effective for a s60 3rd edition mobile, though its a default in i8190.

My final ratings would be Nokia Email is still 5/5 as compared to others. Easier to setup and manage individual accounts. More secure as you can also have your accounts setup in email.nokia.com to have the same account working on your mobile.

Workaround for Configuring gmail account in Nokia E72

The email software in Nokia E72 still has lots of bugs. To configure your Gmail account, it’s not as easy as selecting Gmail and entering the credentials. That simply won’t work as there is a bug.
Instead, workaround is to select “Other” and enter a false id like asa@dss.com, this will take you to the next page to select the type. Select “POP/IMAP”. Now, you will get an option to enter your credentials and modify advanced settings. Here change your email id back to xxx@gmail.com and enter the credentials as mentioned here.
