From some days I was trying to figure out all ways to create a new folder using a keyboard shortcut or hotkey combination in windows, after some research I came to know about some of the methods and tricks which can make this possible.

Why would a user wants to specify a keyboard shortcut for creating new folder ?

The answer to this question is quite simple, as it increases productivity and speed, it is very easy and quick to create a new folder through a keyboard shortcut rather than through conventional right mouse click.

Lets explore all the ways to create new folder quickly with combination of keyboard keys.

First Method ( Works With XP, Vista, Windows 7 )

The most basic keyboard shortcut with which you can create new folder is the following keys combination, press Alt + f then press w then press f – do this very quickly you will see a new folder created in the directory in which you are in windows explorer.

Note: This method work only in windows explorer it will not work on your desktop    

Second Desktop ( Works With XP , Vista and Windows 7 )

This method is based on small free program called bxNewFolder which is a small plugin embeds itself with windows, allows you to create a new folder anywhere you want to just on the press of F12 key on your keyboard.

In order to install this plugin, you should close all windows explorer windows and then right click on the program executable named bxNewFolder_v100 and select Run as administrator

Recently, I purchased reliance netconnect broadband + till now I am quite happy with the download speed and transfer rate it offers, Reliance claims that the technology they had used with reliance netconnect broadband + enables them to offer 30 per cent higher downlink rate in comparison to any other wireless internet technology available in the country.

The reliance netconnect broadband + device would cost you around 3500 Indian rupees which is non refundable and still you will have to subscribe to data plan to use it which are limited in terms of  the usage – the maximum usage with the unlimited plans offers is 10 gb of fair usage.

Now Some Problems I had Faced Using reliance netconnect broadband +

reliance netconnect broadband + Does Not Connect To Internet Automatically [ No Solution Yet ]

It does not connect automatically to internet you will need to launch the associated program connect to internet manually – Till now I have no solution for this problem but I am coming out with a solution to this problem

reliance netconnect broadband + Disconnects Automatically [ Solution Found ]

As reliance netconnect broadband + is dial up based so it will dial and connect you but if the connection remains inactive because of no application connecting to internet – it will disconnect automatically and will not even display a message that it has been disconnected – this is something I call bad software designing and poorly tested application.

Tweak to keep reliance netconnect broadband + connection active and stop disconnection

The disconnection is based on the fact if any of the application is not trying to connect to internet for some time it will disconnect, so I made a small desktop shortcut which keeps pinging the google server all the time, so once you are connected just double click the shortcut. This small shortcut will call the default ping command on your windows machine and will give an indication to reliance netconnect broadband + software that it is trying to connect to google server by sending some small data packets and reliance netconnect broadband + will not disconnect.

Note: You can minimize this command prompt of pinging google all the time, so that you does not occupy any space

Here is how you can create a desktop shortcut, right click on the empty area and select new >> desktop create shortcut

type the following in the target box – ping www.google.com –t and click ok

Now when ever you connect to internet you just need too double click the shortcut to keep the connection active.

Another Easy Method To Solve The reliance netconnect broadband + Disconnect Problem

For Vista

1. Open Start Menu >> Control Panel

2. Open Network and Sharing Center

3. In the Left pane you can see the link Manage Network Connections, click it.

4. In the newly opened windows you can see all the network connections including reliance dial up connection

5. Right click on the dial up connection and select properties, click the options tab in the newly opened windows interface of the dial up

Set your reliance dial up connection properties as shown above, click Ok and close all windows – now it will automatically connect when disconnected if the line is dropped

For XP

1. Open Start Menu >> Control Panel 

2. Click Network Connections

3. Right click on the dial up connection and select properties, click the options tab in the newly opened windows interface of the dial up

4. Click Ok and close all windows, not it will dial up connect automatically on disconnection

Note: Either On Windows Xp or Vista this setting will come in effect only after system restart.

Mounting the CD / DVD images is one of the most difficult things for a layman windows user, as for mounting an image like ISO, CUE, IMG, BIN and RAW  which require a virtual drive. In order to create a virtual drive you will need some emulator drive software, but none of these software will allow you to mount the drive image on mouse double click. Some of the virtual CD emulators have complex user interface too.

WinCDEmu is one such free program which does not have any user interface, and it simply allows you to mount any CD / DVD image with mouse double click.

One of our reader wants to know the best method with which he can login to more than gtalk clients with different accounts at the same time, he wants to know the simplest method to do it. Well the method to implement this simple functionality of opening more than one gtalk clients and logging in them with different accounts credentials is very easy.

As you can see in the image above I had launched more than one gtalk clients and logged into them with different account credentials, for all this only thing you need to do is locate the gtalk shortcut and append the text /nomutex

Locate the shortcut to gtalk in all programs right click on the shortcut and click properties and append /nomutex at the end of the target path as shown in the image below

and click OK button, the final shortcut would look like the following path

"C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe" /nomutex

It happens to almost all of us when we see people in our gtalk friend list with some some messy and irregular names in gtalk, this mostly happen with the gtalk buddies who are also your friend at orkut as well. On orkut people tend to have some style names by adding some special characters in their name, these poorly readable so called styled names become a problem some times when you are not able to identify that person due to these names. On of such situation can be explained form image given below

As you can see in the above image one of my friend in gtalk has such a special name that i cannot identify this person with this messy name, more over she has not added her image as well or any avatar on gtalk with which I can remember her. Now the last option with which i recognised her was her email id which is covered by black spray in the above image. Now once I recognize her I would like to set her name and so that in future it becomes easy for me to recognise her directly with her name.  

Let’s see how can you rename the person with some custom name you want to set to any of your gtalk buddies

1. Firstly Open Gtalk >> Point the friend in the gtalk buddies list

2. Right click on the friend which you want to rename in your gtalk

3. Now type the name with which you can recognize the friend later on

Drive Letter View is a tiny little program which allows you to change the way drive letter are displayed on the drives under my computer,  you can choose in between 3 display styles for showing the drive letters or hide the drive letters from showing in my computer.

You can have the following layouts set for the drive letters to show in my computer

• Show all the drive letters after the drive label
• Show all the drive letters before the drive label
• show remote drive letters before the label and show the local drives letters after the label
• never show any drive letters
