You have probably heard of Warhammer and Warhammer 40k, and if you have not then chances are you have seen the excellent computer game Dawn of War.

Games Workshop are the masterminds behind these epic franchises. As the largest tabletop battle games company in the world, Games Workshop are also responsible for the more recent games based on the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

A Little History
Warhammer Fantasy Battle was the first game to be set in Warhammers alternate middle earth realm. Since its release in 1983 Warhammer has inspired generations of table top gamers, introducing them to painting and collecting the miniature models that represent battlefield units.

Warhammer 40k is Games Workshops futuristic version of the original game, set in the far future. Post apocalyptic societies struggle to control the galaxy, finding strange alien races and evil around every corner. This franchise was brought to wide media attention with the release of Dawn of War on the PC in 2004.

The Warhammer Fantasy Franchise
The Warhammer fantasy franchise encompasses table top games, role-playing games, card games, computer games, books, magazines and comics. Games Workshop is famous for the hard line it takes against impersonators and those who try and sell fake versions of their products, specifically the miniatures needed to play the table top games.

25 years of game development has produced an amazingly rich and detailed world. The official website lists over 200 written resources for Warhammer Fantasy. Additionally many older products are no longer in print or are unavailable.

The depth of information is staggering. Historical, religious and political histories are available for each of the 15 major armies used in the game.

Warhammer Fantasy inspires amazing artwork. Books produced as part of the worlds background feature stunning illustrations. Fans of the franchise also produce spectacular artwork of their own often rivalling the official artists.

An Expensive Hobby
Warhammer has come a long way from those early days. Games Workshops commercial attitude to the franchise has turned many unsuspecting people into serious hobbyists who are almost addicted to the system.

Miniatures are supplied unpainted and unassembled, much like an airfix model. To collect, build and paint armies consisting of hundreds of models is not for the faint hearted! Add to this the need to create scenery and model buildings and you begin to appreciate the time, effort and money that fans invest into Warhammer.

Warhammer And The Future
The Warhammer franchise appears to be eternal. Games Workshop are clearly willing to move with the times as demonstrated by the release of several computer games in the past decade.

The impending release of a Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) Warhammer: Age of Reckoning – based in the Warhammer fantasy world is adding to the reputation of this gaming giant. Nearly 600,000 people have signed up hoping to get a sneak preview of the game, providing solid evidence that Warhammer is now firmly in the mainstream.

Have you ever wondered if what you know about data recovery is accurate? Consider the following paragraphs and compare what you know to the latest info on data recovery.

Sooner or later your company could become the victim of a natural disaster, or something much more common like a lightning storm or downed power lines.

Just because your company may be a small business doesn’t mean it’s immune to data disasters. If a small business does not have a good and tested disaster recovery plan in place when disaster hits they may never fully recuperate and it may even cause them to go out of business. Sometimes even a data recovery service is unable to be of any help.

Following are some questions that should be answered in order to give you some idea of what you need to do to that will help you if you do have a data disaster situation.

Do you know where your company’s most important data files are located?

Are these files being backed up and by what means?

How often do you run these data backups and are they verified and tested?

Do you have automated controls that correctly and on a consistent basis do the backups?

Do your data backup tapes go off-site and how often?

Do you have some kind of security against tampering or theft of your data backups?

Do you keep your servers, routers, hubs, and phone system controllers in locked areas to keep them more secure?

Does just anyone have access to your servers and your other technology assets or do you limit access to at least two, but no more than four people?

Do you run a locally securable operating system, such as Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, Microsoft Windows XP, or Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4,on the company’s desktop PCs and notebooks?

Do you have any confidential data stored locally on any desktop PCs or notebooks? Are any of these systems running an inherently in-secure operating system, such as Microsoft Windows 9x or Microsoft Windows Me?

Do you prevent unauthorized boot-ups or tampering with BIOS configuration settings by using power-on passwords?

On your desktop PCs and notebooks, how are main updates, service packs and releases kept current?

The bottom line is that you can’t plan when a data disaster may strike but taking a few steps beforehand may help with your company’s survival in the days and weeks following a disaster.

As a CCNA or CCNP, one thing you’ve got to get used to is that change is constant. Cisco regularly issues new IOS versions, not to mention the many different kinds of hardware they produce! While it’s always nice to have “the latest and the greatest” when it comes to routers, switches, firewalls, etc., we have to be prepared for the fact that not all our clients are going to have that latest and greatest!

For instance, there are still quite a few Catalyst 5000 switches out there humming away, and if you’re used to working on IOS-driven switches like the 2950, the same command can have dramatically different results.

Let’s say you’re going to examine the spanning tree protocol (STP) setup of a new client. You’re used to working with newer 2950 switches, and you’ve always run show span on those switches to display spanning-tree information. Then, you run show span on a Catalyst 5000 – and something like this shows:

switch (enable) show span

Destination : Port 6/1

Admin Source : Port 6/2

Oper Source : Port 6/2

Direction : transmit/receive

Incoming Packets: disabled

Learning : enabled

Multicast : enabled

Filter : -

Status : active

Total local span sessions: 1

What’s going on here?

The command show span on a 5000 will not show spanning tree stats – instead, what you’re going to see are statistics relating to Switched Port ANalyzer (SPAN). Surprise!

Consider an example where you’re used to running show span on 5000 switches to see SPAN information. When you run that on a 2950, you know now what you’re going to get – spanning tree information! On a 2950, you’ll need to run show monitor session, followed by the SPAN session number.

SW1#show monitor session 1

Session 1

———

Type : Local Session

Source Ports :

Both : Fa0/1

Destination Ports : Fa0/2

Encapsulation : Native

Ingress: Disabled

As a CCNA and CCNP, this is one of those things you just have to get used to. Commands are going to be different, sometimes radically so, between models. That’s why you need to be adept with both IOS Help and Cisco’s online documentation site. IOS Help is easy, but the online doc site take a little getting used to. Once you learn how to navigate that site, a world of Cisco knowledge is at your fingertips.

Besides, when you sit for the CCIE lab exam, that will be the only friend you have! And a valuable friend it can be – you’re just going to have to trust me on that one.

Thirty year broadcast veteran Barry Michaels, (‘Michaels In The Morning’) has quite a few stories to tell! His early life was an idyllic one, growing up on picturesque farm land in the southeastern United States, with a Mom and Dad to admire and a support group of aunts and uncles that many dont have today. Barry became interested in radio at an early age, becoming a gopher for one local radio personality and quickly learning where the emphasis is placed in the term show business. Barry’s career began in earnest after college, when he finally screwed up his courage to apply at a small radio station near his hometown, where he spoke mostly to cows. Little did management know that he would have paid them to be on the air! From having the honor of being recognized by his peers with nominations as Major Market Air Personality of the Year to working as a towel boy in a swanky country club between radio jobs, youll share in Barrys top of the mountain triumphs and bottom of the valley lows. You’ll get to meet some of the most talented professionals in the business and you’ll cheer the heroes and clinch your teeth at the bad guys! Barry also honors those who entertained and inspired an entire generation of radio personalities-the voices on those fifty thousand watt a.m. radio stations with legendary call letters like WLS, WCFL, WABC and more.

From sleeping in his Volkswagen ‘Bug’ to traveling across the United States five times in search of the perfect on air radio job, Barry’s stories are poignant and laugh out loud funny. Learn how Barry was almost gunned down by a psychotic listener at a radio station in Orlando, Florida before his boss intervened. See radio through his eyes when he begins work at a rock and roll station that employs a Catholic priest as a ‘DJ, and dodges flying beer bottles in one of the many bars he makes appearances in for his radio station.

The ‘Radio Road’ is fraught with many bumps along the way and you may even see yourself as Barry attempts to raise three young sons as a single father and tries a comeback after a bitter divorce and child custody battle. You may not want to enter the thirty five dollar a week almost condemned house Barry was living in while awaiting the courts ruling. You really dont want to wake up in his room during a thunderstorm as rats prepare to feast on his toes! Meet his new landlord, whos down on his luck too, and has a secretive past with the United States Army. Barry’s adventures have taken him from the beautiful stillness of his blue Virginia mountains to the golden Pacific ocean–all seen through the window of his beloved Volkswagen Beetle, which he still owns. It’s radio, its life, and it’s real. Come along for the ride, and find out the true stories of those ‘masked riders of the hertzian wave.’ With photo and audio collection.

In spite of the “paperless office” that was supposed to be ushered in by the common use of computers, there is more printing done today than ever before. And that means that printers and their supplies have to be replaced on a fairly regular basis, whether you’re printing at home or in a business.

Today’s printers offer a lot of features – high resolution photo printing, multi-function printer/scanning/faxing, digital memory card readers and much more. But before you make a decision, there are some basic considerations that you need to think about.

First is the long-term cost of the printer. You can buy a very good color printer for well under $100 these days but the catch is most of these inexpensive models have costly ink cartridges.

If you’re thinking about buying a budget printer, find out how much the ink costs to replace and whether there are generic or refilled cartridges available for it.

Second, find out whether or not the printer you’re considering includes full size ink cartridges. Many of today’s printers come with “starter” inks that have much less ink in them than a standard cartridge.

The printer may not seem like such a good deal when you have to buy a new set of ink after printing 40 or 50 pages.

Next, consider the cost of the black cartridge. Most people print much more black and white than they do color. Some printers have considerably larger black cartridges than others, and if you do a lot of black printing the larger cartridges can save you a lot of money in the long run.

Fourth, consider what kind of things you’ll be printing. If you want to be able to print your own digital photos you should look at one of the many photo printers on the market.

If you’re not printing photos, however, photo printers generally cost more to operate than other options. You might be better off with a laser printer that has considerably lower operating costs than inkjet.

Lastly, think about whether you really need all those extra features like faxing, scanning, photocopying, etc. It sounds great to have all these options, but most people rarely use them, if at all.

And consider the cost for these other features as well. Do you really want to make photocopies at home that could cost $0.50 to $1.00 per page when you can get them for 5 to 10 cents at the local copy store?

Control your computer securely and reliably from anywhere in the world no matter how many miles away you are going.

Many travelers set up their desktop computers to accept connections with Remote Desktop program built into latest versions of Windows only to find out in a hard way that they cant control their PC from where they are. This is a very common problem because of the complexity of modern networks and the Internet itself. Just about anything can prevent you from controlling your desktop remotely: a firewall securing your network, an Internet provider blocking everything except Web pages and images, or any of the numerous reasons that exist in different segments of the Internet. These are all important and valid causes of connection problems, but the number one reason is much simpler and has nothing to do with the complexity of the Internet.

Depending on the ISP, your home PC can get a different IP address every once in a while. This type of addresses is referred as ‘dynamic’, and is a common practice among practically all ISPs, except if you pay extra for a ‘static’, thus permanent, IP address. But even if you secure a permanent Internet address for your computer, the firewalls will still stand in the way of establishing a successful connection between your PC and your location while on the go.

Anyplace Control by http://www.anyplace-control.com offers a revolutionary new approach to bypassing all the obstacles and remotely accessing your computer from anywhere in the world. Leave your heavy desktop PC at home while you are traveling! No need to carry even a notebook! Gain immediate control over your desktop and its files while on the go with Anyplace Control!

Accessing your computer remotely works in a few very simple steps and does not require complex setup or expert network configuration whatsoever. You simply create an account with Anyplace Control, and assign a name to your computer. When you need to access your PC from a remote location, you simply enter your computer name into the small and lightweight client application, and Anyplace Control manages the rest. No need to configure network settings on the remote PC, and no need to worry about the firewalls and other obstacles!

With Anyplace Control you can see your computers desktop and control your PC with mouse and keyboard as if you were there, or use Drag and Drop operation to transfer files between your computers. Anyplace Control uses state of the art encryption and latest security approaches to protect your home PC from remote attacks. Finally, Anyplace Control saves your bandwidth by consuming minimum traffic, allowing the fastest response times even on very slow connections.

While travelling, especially to developing countries, you may find that their PCs are not the same state-of-the-art PCs you are used to see at home. Internet cafes may have old, slow computers running operating systems as old as Windows 95. If you were using Windows Remote Desktop application to access your home PC, youd be out of luck!

Anyplace Control does not use Windows Remote Desktop, and hence is compatible with all Windows systems, not just those supporting the Remote Desktop Technology. You can run Anyplace Control on Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP, 2003 Server, and Vista.

Get ready for your next trip! Download your free evaluation version of Anyplace Control now from http://www.anyplace-control.com/, and control your computer remotely from anywhere in the world!

Link Load Balancing evens out critical resources on data networks with unpredictable requests issued to a server. For example, a web site with heavy traffic may employ two, three or more servers in a link load balancing program. The link load balancing routines enable a network to juggle more traffic that otherwise possible If one server is overwhelmed, the link load balancing scheme forwards them to a different server with extra capacity.

Another aspect to link load balancing concerns the communications channels themselves. In this case the juggling act is meant to better distribute processing and communications demands more equitably across the network so that no single a computer is overwhelmed by the demand.

Link Load Balancing – Key Features & Benefits
First and foremost is availability – 24/7 Application Availability for complete IP Application access. Local and Global Service providers rely on redundancy and link load balancing between servers, WSD units and distributed sites for complete server continuity across global networks

Network Bottlenecks – Link Load Balancing
Network managers are constantly seeking new solutions for eliminating bottlenecks and latencies for the fastest performance of all networked applications and web-enabled transactions. The idea link load balancing technology combines both unlimited application scalability with flexible traffic distribution management of data centers and server farms.

Network Security – Link Load Balancing
Link load balancing is a key element in the overall network Intrusion Prevention effort. Expert Link Load Balancing guards the network against internal and external attacks such as viruses, worms, Trojans, anti-scanning and protocol anomalies. Above all hovers the ultimate link load balancing challenge and network threat DOS – Denial of Service.

Remember the song, Take a load off Annie Just listening to it makes you feel nice and relaxed For maximum performance and 100 percent uptime, networks use link load balancing to even out resource use throughout the network.

There is a wide range of laptop models available on the market today and buying the right machine can turn into a confusing mission.

There are laptop computers intended for home users, multimedia, business and gaming. You can spend from $500 to $5,000.

The very first step you need to do is to determine your needs.

If you spend a lot of time traveling, your best option is a light laptop with a long battery life.

If you are an average home user, you can easily select a low-range laptop that will cost you about $500.

If you use the Internet a lot or store photographs and videos, you choice should be a mid-range laptop that will cost you from $1,000 to $1,500.

But if plan to purchase a gaming laptop, be ready to pay at least $3,000.

Look at the following categories:

- Processor is the most important thing to take into consideration. Intel Pentium M, Mobile AMD Athlon 64 and AMD Turion 64 Mobile are high-powered processors. Intel’s Celeron M and AMD’s Duron and Sempron are processors found in low-end laptops.

Avoid desktop processors in laptops because they need a lot of power and will quickly exhaust your battery.

- Screen sizes range from 12 to 19 inches. A laptop computer with smaller screen is great option if you do not plan to use laptop too much. A larger screen is perfect for extensive use.

- Your new laptop should have at least 1 gigabyte of memory. Also, your machine should come with a dedicated video card with 128 megabytes of memory.

- Choose a faster hard drive with at least 60GB of space. This is sufficient for the majority of users. Gamers should get at least 100 GB hard drive.

Booting issues, virus attacks, or corrupted file systems are very much present in any exchange or mail servers and can cause many of your archived email messages to apparently disappear. Companies which rely heavily on email communication and do not have back ups might find this a pervading problem. But data recovery designed specifically for email recovery can fix this problem.

Here are a few examples of data recovery steps in three of the most widely used email clients:

IncrediMail Email Data Recovery

Select File | Data and Settings Transfer | Transfer from Old Computer… from the menu in IncrediMail email client.

Click on the OK button.

Click Open; then click OK.

IncrediMail Email data recovery process will then start.

Once done, a dialog box will appear, indicating that the data recovery process is finished. Click OK.

IncrediMail will auto-restart to complete the data recovery process.

Outlook Email and Other Data Recovery

Select File | Import and Export… from the Outlook menu.

In the drop-down menu that appears, select Import from another program or file.

Click Next.

Run your mouse over the Personal Folder File (PST) to highlight it.

Click the Next button again.

Using the Browse button, select the backup copy of the PST file you want to recover from your backup location.

On the dialog box, place a check mark on the box that says Replace duplicates with items imported to start the data recovery process.

Click Next.

Once the data recovery process is done, click Finish.

Outlook Express Email Data Recovery

Select File | Import | Messages… from the Outlook Express menu.

Choose the Outlook Express version that you have as the email program to import from.

Click the Next button.

From the dialog box, make sure that you again choose the right Outlook Express version.

Click OK.

Select the folder containing your back up copy of your Outlook Express mail store by using the Browse button.

Click Next.

Choose which folders to import and the data recovery process will start.

Click Next; then Finish to finalize the data recovery process.

It is a fact that exchange and email servers are a vital aspect of any company. So to protect this fragile part of your companys IT asset base, you need a splendid back up program and state-of-the-art data recovery system that has been tested and proven effective in its job.
