Before The Future Sound Of London became the established vehicle for the talents of Brian Dougans and Gaz Cobain, the pair experimented under different guises – initially released as "Pulse" EPs, spin off singles and then collated for the first time on CD with the highly acclaimed "Earthbeat" album. Due to the success of the recent "From The Archives" series, the guys have been back in the studio to revisit some of their early 90s work under these different guises that weren't released at the time. The result is this extraordinary collection of electronica, showcasing the innovation and early style of a now legendary partnership in the making.

CD - CDTOT61 - £9.99 - limited cheap price - NOT OUT UNTIL MONDAY!
basket : wish list
Taken from the current R&S "In Order To Dance" CD compilation comes this two track sampler featuring a couple of essential remixes from the set. On side A Matthew Dear, using his deeper Audion moniker, comes up with a typically cerebral and mesmerising minimal techno rework of Jaydee's all time classic "Plastic Dreams". In contrast original Hoover rave anthem "Mentasm" by Second 'Joey Beltram' Phase gets a tough dancefloor-aimed techno refix by Redshape on side B.
Ivan Smagghe and Tim Paris take us on a trip back to late 70s Canada via the year 2525 on this electronic future-disco / proto-techno (sort of) masterpiece. "Woman (A Makhnovshchina Repossession)" starts with a dry kick drum driven rhythm melded to bleepy analogue noises, ricocheting percussion snaps and some super space-age, sci-fi synth washes. And the, just when you're least expecting it, in come some big 70s prog chords and an even bigger 70s kinda Balearic rock vocal (yeah, probably really obvious, but not to me - answers on an e-mail please!). The dub mix does the same thing, but without the vocals, and with extra dub effects (Echo! Delay! Reverb!). Highly recommended!

12" - HC003 - £5.99
basket : wish list

On side A Optimo edits, rather than remixes, Capricorn's classic 1993 military snare peppered, bleeping house cut "20hz", just emphasising the good bits even more. On the flip Prins Thomas turns Outlander's early 90s Belgian techno rave anthem "Vamp" into a late 80s style house banger (check the extra Reese & Santonio bits) that you'd expect Ron Hardy to be caning at the Music Box (on plus six, obviously). "The World As We Want It" is all spiralling arpeggiated keyboard lines, bubbling bass, hissing percussion and dub effects firing off all over. "Revolution" keeps things equally deep, turning the 'lovely synth washes' and 'sparkly sounds' knobs up to 11. Beautiful music for blissed-out late nights / early mornings.

12" - WM50202 - £7.49
basket : wish list

This is a one-sided slammer of raw analogue Chicago-style filth; a dirty, tracky electroid house jacker for the dancefloor that you know is going to get the crowd in a bit of a frenzy - just feel the weight of the bass and muffled kick drum combination - phwoah! I always think that tunes like this sound like they're piss easy to make, but actually take a lot of skill - what's NOT put in is as important as what it. Already played out by Marcel Dettman, Recloose and Trus'me amongst others, this is sure to become one of those 'What's this??!' future dancefloor anthems.

12" - TRACKWERK001 - £6.99
Limited one-sided, hand-stamped white label.
basket : wish list

The twelve opens with title track "Pussy", a massive Bmore breaks refix of Soul II Soul's "Back To Life" - when it drops expect dancefloor carnage! "The Way You Movin'" has a sweet half-time drop before a warped bassline crashes the party. Blaqstarr gets in on the act with a nifty vocal turn on "Tween Me + U" riding a bouncy super-charged groove. "Ritalin" rounds off the sonic assault with super sized old skool stabs and filthy bass drops.
Dave Clarke follows on from Joey Negro and Louie Vega's "Back In The Box" selections, and offers up a blistering selection of early house and acid tunes. While the music industry might be celebrating the 20th anniversary of acid house, we all know house music was already two years or more old by 1988, and it's these earlier creations that Clarke has pulled off his shelves for another airing. The set brings us productions circa 1986 / 1987 coming from the likes of Farley Jackmaster Funk, Fast Eddie Smith, Mr. Lee, Master C&J and Manchester's T-Coy. There are underrated classics from Foremost Poets, Jungle Wonz, Da Posse, Julian Jonah, Blake Baxter and Pierre's Fantasy Club, all mixed up in Clarke's inimitable fashion. As ever with this series we get a mix CD and a DJ friendly unmixed set too, making it a bit of a bargain too.

2xCD - BITBCD03 - £9.99 - limited cheap price - NOT OUT UNTIL MONDAY!
basket : wish list

The Idjut Boys : Droid
Droid
One - Discoid
Two - Technoid

Fresh from a recent round of absolute killer 12"s on their revitalized Noid label, the Idjuts further cement their current purple patch with the launch of a new, no doubt sporadic, though eminently collectible and club friendly imprint. Droid exists as an outlet for the boys' more electronic releases; something for a little later in the evening (or morning), a selection of tracks which apply the duo's patented dub ethic to the late night world of hypnotic dancefloor secret weapons. DROID0108 sees the Idjuts deliver a pair of rich, dubbed-out drum jams, giving a 21st century nod to seminal NYC percussion heavy bands like Konk and Liquid Liquid. Both sides sound like extended 12" dub versions of long lost original cuts, whose innocent simplicity may be elusive without the benefit of sufficiently high decibels (which is Idjut for PLAY LOUD!). These boys know a thing or two about working a dancefloor, and it's tracks like these which provide the condiment to any tasty club sandwich.

12" - DROID0108 - £6.99
Strictly limited pressing, with no represses!
basket : wish list

His remix has been doing serious damage and gaining support across many genres from dubstep to techno. It was a highlight of the recent Appleblim podcast at the same time as finding its way onto several German radio playlists.

12" - REKIDS031 - £4.99 - NOT OUT UNTIL MONDAY!
Limited one-side 12".
basket : wish list
Echocord Colour is the new sublabel of Echocord Records. This is the third release on the offshoot and comes produced by Quantec aka Sven Schienhammer. "Ray Of Hope" is a quite upbuilding track that goes straight into your mind, a beautifull piece of music, while "Crank Eye" is a floorburner for all the dub-tech fans out there. Dave Huismans aka 2562 aka A Made Up Sound takes things to another level with his remix of "Ray Of Hope".

12" - ECHOCORDCOLOUR03 - £6.99
Limited yellow vinyl pressing.
basket : wish list

Quince : Genetrix EP
Music Man
Theme For A Dream
Genetrix
Omnium
After a long holiday, Quince is back in business. The "Genetrix EP" includes three great tracks that form a wonderful follow-up to his previous Music Man release, way back in 2007. Here he offers up more of his sound: Techno, but funky. Detroit, but not too retro. Deep, but with an eye on the dancefloor. "Omnium" is s delicious piece of driving techno music, slowly adding layers (long synth chords, rising strings, sparkling Rhodes style keyboards, bubbling acid bass) to a simple backing track. Next we go deeper with "Genetrix", an altogether more melancholic affair. Lastly there's "Theme For A Dream", a skippy, swinging tech mover for the floor.
12" - MM143 - £6.99
basket : wish list
