Orkut has just added a few feature -- Badges.

These badges are displayed on your profile pages as small icons. Users can get badges for various things. For Example: If you are user of Orkut for more than 5 years, then you can get the Early User Badge. If you have created a community of more than million members, then you can get Millionaire Community Badge and so on.

The users are also allowed to manage badges on their profile ( i.e., whether to show/hide badges that they have got)

[ TIP / TRICK ] Disable Microsoft Error Reporting

This error report sending message can become quite annoying at times; it keeps on bugging the user. Not to worry about. There is a simple way to get rid of it:

1.Right Click on My Computer. Go to Properties.
2. Now go to the Advanced tab.
3.Under the advanced tab, at the bottom, click on Error reporting. Now click on Disable error reporting and then click OK.

You are done. You will not receive the error sending report anymore.

[ TRICK / TIP ] Change Drive Letters ( C:\ , D:\ , etc )

1. Go to Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management

2. Then Right Click the partition whose name you want to change and select "change drive letter and paths"

3. Then you can add, remove, or change drive letters and paths to the partition

How to recover hacked GMail Account ?

In this post, I will explain the ways to recover your GMail account if it is hacked by someone. There are two ways to get back access to your hacked GMail account : (1) Password Reset, and (2) submitting the Account Recovery Form. I will explain these 2 methods below:

Method 1: Password Reset
This is the simplest method to recover your account. You can reset your password by answering the security question or by using your secondary email address associated with your hacked email account (sending mail with password reset instructions)

Method 2: Account Recovery Form

If the first method don't work, then you can try to get back the access to your account by filling the account recovery form and contacting the Google support team. This form contains questions like:

1. An email address we can use to contact you

4. Account creation date

5. Last successful login date

6. Last password you remember

You have to fill this form as much as accurate as possible. Many of us fill forget the account creation date, last successful login date etc. But you have to figure out dates as closest as possible.The more accurate the information you provide, the chances of getting back your account is high. Google needs your IP to resolve this issue. So once you submit this form, your IP will be captured automatically.

The Orkut Team has made some nice updates and has made few slight changes to its layout.

New Features :

* Send Scraps To All Friends / Multiple Friends / To A Specified Group of Friends

HOAX Mail: Ericsson Distributing Free Laptops

Today, I have received a mail saying that " Ericsson is distributing free laptops for their brand promotion ". The mail comes in an enhanced graphic format. See below:

The content of the mail was like this:

Dear All,

Ericsson is distributing free laptops for their brand promotion. They are hoping to increase their popularity and sales with this campaign.All you need to do is send an email about this promotion to 8 people and you will receive an Ericsson T18 laptop.

However, if you send an email to 20 people or more you will receive an Ericsson R320 laptop.

Make sure you send a copy anna.swelung@Ericsson.com

By seeing this, most of us will think that its true and will forward the mail to atleast 20 persons. But what I have did is, just searched over the internet to know more about this mail and finally I have found that its an HOAX mail which has been circulating through the internet for many years.

So, I request you not to forward this kind of e-mails; no matter who sends you the mail and what it claims to do. If you receive any mails like this, just don't respond to them.

To change the icons for My Computer, My Documents, My Network Places, and Recycle Bin. Follow the steps below:

Step 1: Right - click on " Desktop " and take " Properties "

Step 2: ,When the " Display Properties " dialog box appears, click the " Desktop " tab

Step 3: Then click " Customize Desktop " button

Step 4: A " Desktop Items " dialog box will appear. Make sure the " General " tab is selected.

Step 5: Click on an icon to change:

* My Computer
* My Documents
* My Network Places
* Recycle Bin (full)

6. Click " Change Icon "

[TRICK] Hide File In Image

1. Gather the file you wish to bind, and the image file, and place them in a folder.

For example, I will be using D:\New Folder
-The image will hereby be referred to in all examples as image.jpg
-The file will hereby be referred to in all examples as file.txt

2. Add the file/files you will be injecting into the image into a WinRar .rar or .zip. From here on this will be referred to as trick.rar

3. Open command prompt by going to Start > Run and, then type cmd and hit Enter

4. In Command Prompt, navigate to the folder where your two files are by typing
cd location [ex: cd D:\New Folder]

5. Type copy /b image.jpg + trick.rar image.jpg and hit Enter.

Congrats, as far as anyone viewing is concerned, this file looks like a JPEG, acts like a JPEG, and is a JPEG, yet it now contains your file.

In order to view/extract your file, there are two options that you can take

a) Change the file extension from image.jpg to image.rar. Then, open and your file is there

b) Right click, and then open with WinRar and your file is there

Make Your Folders Invisible

1.Right Click on the desktop and Make a New Folder

2. Now Rename the folder with a space (Hold ALT Key and press 0160 using the num pad and press enter)

3. Now you have a folder with out a name.

4. Right click on the Folder -> Properties -> Customize. Click on Change icon.

5. Scroll a bit, you should find some empty spaces. Click on any one of them.

Click OK. That’s it.

Notepad as your Personal Diary

There is a simple feature in Notepad that can make it work like a personal diary for you.
To do this, follow the steps below:

1. Open a blank Notepad file.

2. Now write .LOG as the first line in the file, and then press enter. Now save the file and close it.

3. Open the saved notepad file now and you will find that the current date and time has been appended (put) at the end and the cursor is in the next line.

4. Type your notes and then save and close the file.

5. Each time you open the file, Notepad repeats the process. That is, it appends the date and time to the end of the file and places the cursor below it.

Change the font size - While holding the control key, move the scroll wheel on your mouse either up or down. This trick works while being focused in either the read or write area.

Insert line breaks - If you want to have a message that spans multiple paragraphs, just hold shift and hit enter. You can add as many new lines as you want to create.

Bold Text - To write something bold, you can use an asterisk ( * ) before and after the word, like *this* .

Italic Text - To use italics, use an underscore ( _ )before an after the word, like _this_ .

Switch Windows - Hitting tab will cycle through open windows. It will select minimized conversations, to expand them just hit enter. If you just want to cycle through IM's and don't care about the buddy list, control-tab will do that and will automatically expand a minimized conversation if you settle on one.

Invitation Tips - You don’t need to say Yes or No when someone wants to add you as a friend; you can simply ignore it, the request will go away. (On the other hand, someone with whom you chat often will automatically turn to be your friend, unless you disable this in the options)

Show Hyperlinks - You can show your homepage or blog URL simply by entering the it in your away message (at the top of the main window). It will automatically turn to a link visible to others.

News: Google Pays $500,000 Fine For Fake Profiles on Orkut

Google has been ordered to pay a fine of about $500,000 because of fake profiles on its Social Networking Site, Orkut. Google will have to pay formula one driver Rubens Barrichello half a million dollars in damages because it hosted fake profiles of him on social networking site, Orkut. According to motorsport.com a court in Sao Paolo, Brazil, ordered Google - which owns Orkut - to pay $500,000 damages but this could rise to $700,000, because there could be an extra daily fine. Along with the half-million, Google was ordered to pay a daily fine of about $590 until the fake pages were removed from the social network. Media said there were more than 300 fake profiles under Mr Barrichelo's name on Orkut. The case began in July 2006.

Orkut, owned by Google, has a big following in Brazil, though it is losing some ground to a new Portuguese-language version of Facebook that has become available. The 15th district court of Sao Paulo hearing the civil case determined that Google's responsibility was proved because it managed the site and established the rules for its use. The US Internet company made no immediate comment on the judgement. Brazilian specialists said the amount of damages was the biggest yet awarded for false web profiles and online libel.

According to Computer Weekly, Google says in its statement: " We would first like to clarify that this is only an initial judgement and we look forward to the reconsideration of this decision on appeal by the Court of Appeals. Mr Rubens Barrichello is a public figure, and as such is subject to both the positive and negative expression of public opinion. In this sense, Google reaffirms that we are not responsible for any injury to Mr Barrichello's public image and we believe that a better solution will be affirmed upon the definitive and final judgement of the case by the appellate courts."

Some other social media sites try to prevent people from assuming the identity of others. Twitter, for instance, provides a verification process meant to establish authenticity of individuals. Barrichello's profile on Twitter is verified. As the Washington Post reports, Rubens Barichello, who was looking for "respect rather than money," is going to donate the money to his charitable organization, Barichello Kanaan Foundation.

[TUTORIAL] Add Music To Your Orkut Profile

Follow the below steps to Add Music into the about me of your Orkut Profile.

1. Convert Your MP3 File to SWF File.

I have used the hootech MP3 to SWF Converter to Convert the file.

2. After converting the file, the MP3 to SWF Converter will create a SWF File and a HTML File.

3. Open the html file created and Goto View -> Page Source (In Mozilla Firefox). Then Copy the ''EMBED'' code.

4. Upload your SWF File to any free hosting site (I have used justfree.com)

5. Login to your Orkut Profile and Switch it to the Older Version (Use Mozilla Firefox Version 3 or later).

6. In Older Version, Goto your Scrapbook and Paste the ''EMBED'' code that we copied from the html file. Then replace the ''src'' code with the link of your uploaded SWF file.

7. Click Preview Button

8. Click on the preview once and then copy the preview (Rick Click and Copy or press Crtl + C).

9. Now Switch back your Orkut Profile to the New Version

10. Goto Profile and Edit your Profile. Then press Ctrl + V or Right Click and Paste.(Use Google Chrome)

11. Click Save.

If you dont need the music player to show on your profile and needs to embed a music file in your about me (like BGM - BackGround Music). Use the following code:

Then repeat the steps from 7 to 11.

Note: In this case, you cannot see anything being pasted but you can hear the music.

Know your Mobile Phone's Quality using the IMEI Number

What is an IMEI....???

An IMEI means International Mobile Equipment Identity. It is a number unique to every mobile phone.

To know the IMEI of your phone, just type *#06#

To know the quality of your mobile phone, just type *#06#. Then it will show the phone's IMEI Number on the screen. It will be a 15 or 17 digit number.

Now check the 7th and 8th digit of this IMEI Number.

If the 7th and 8th digits are 02 or 20, this means that your phone was assembled in Emirates which is Bad Quality.

If the 7th and 8th digits are 08 or 80, this means that your phone was manufactured in Germany which is Fair Quality.

If the 7th and 8th digits are 01 or 10, this means that your phone was manufactured in Finland which is Very Good Quality.

If the 7th and 8th digits are 00, this means that your phone was manufactured in the Original Factory which is the Best Mobile Quality.
