Sony Nex-3 Alpha Camera Design and Controls

Nex-3 is diminutive in size. It measures 4.4×2.4×1.6 inches which makes it slightly smaller than Olympus PEN E-PL1 which measures 4.5×2.8×1.6 inches. The camera however, feels solid when gripped and most of it has to do with the metal lens. Our unit came with a silver-colored plastic but customers can choose either red or black. Nex-3 has a wide range of ISO ranging from 200 to 12800. As we increased the ISO, the images appeared to be grainy and shallow.

NEX-3 is capable of recording 1440×1080 pixel resolution video at 30fps. One can also capture videos at 640×480 pixels at 60fps. The video quality is quite good and the stereo microphones placed on either side of the camera picked up nice sounds. The videos carried enough details and we were impressed by the quality of the video.

Sony claims that the battery of Alpha NEX-3 will last for approximately 300 shots. But in our tests after shooting some images and few videos, the battery life dropped quickly below 50%. The battery ran out after clicking about just 200 shots. Hence we recommend you to carry an additional charged battery which will be really handy.

They could record it with a digital video recorder, or just wait the weeks or months until the network played it as a rerun. Two of the most popular sites, Hulu and Netflix internet video library, alone account for millions of unique visitors every day and have a vast library of current and expired television shows.

Hulu is a joint venture of NBCUniversal, Fox Entertainment Group, and Disney-ABC Television Group, so content from these major networks is provided directly to the site in high-quality streaming format. Nokia has been in news of late by launching the Nokia Lumia 800 running on Windows Phone 7.5 platform. However, it has not yet parted ways from the Symbian OS, which once helped the Finnish mobile phone manufacturer to be a dominant name in the market. Even though the demand for Symbian powered phones is fast declining in most international markets, Nokia has come up with S40 powered Nokia Asha 303. Asha means hope and much like the term, Nokia Asha 303 hopes to revive the fading Symbian platform. Nokia Asha 303 Case/Design

When we first looked at Asha 303, it looked very much like Nokia X2-01 QWERTY. With dimensions measuring 116.5×55.7×13.9mm, it is not a compact device. Though it is not slim, yet the curved shape of the phone makes it comfortable to grip. Asha 303 is quite light, weighing approximately 99 grams. The build quality of the phone is quite solid and it does not feel ‘cheap’. The finish is quite simple and we liked the fact that the body of the phone is resistant to fingerprint. We found a touch of metal on the rear side which does not add up significantly to the weight of the phone. Asha 303 is a nicely built phone and most of the users will be impressed by it simple yet elegant look.

Asha 303 Screen and Display

The phone sports a 2.6 inches TFT capacitive touchscreen which some users might feel is on the smaller side for a touch phone. The screen is quite responsive and most of the time it responded well to our touches. It offers the traditional Nokia haptics and when we tapped on the display we felt vibration underneath our fingers. Colors rendering were quite decent and the contrast was also good. However, narrow viewing angles are an issue with the display. When slightly titled, the colors faded out quickly. Poor sunlight legibility is also an issue with the display.

Even with full brightness turned on, it was difficult for us to read the screen contents. The small size of the screen means that users can face some problems reading texts while reading e-books. On the top of the display you get a microUSB port, 3.5mm audio jack, the charger plug and the earpiece. On the front you get an ambient light sensor while on the right hand side lies the lock key and the volume rocker button.

Keyboard

The full QWERTY keyboard is one of the major USPs of the Asha 303. It is the first S40 phone which features a touch screen and a full physical QWERTY keyboard. The layout of the keyboard is quite spacious and the shape of the keys is also quite good which helps to quickly type messages and emails. If you have big fingers then initially you might face problems adjusting to the keyboard, but we hope that after some practice you will get accustomed to it. The back-light on the keyboard is quite sharp and you will not face any problems using the keyboard in dark.

User Interface

Asha 303 runs on S40 platform which was recently updated with new icons and look to give users a rich visual experience. There are a couple of swipe gestures present on the home screen. The left swipe gives you access to the message composer while the right swipe opens the game folder and Java apps. The lock screen is pretty standard. We were a bit disappointed by the fact that the phone does not feature an accelerometer and features like turn-to-mute and tap-for-time.

Gallery

The photo application on Asha 303 presents only a single viewing mode and the gallery also supports kinetic scrolling and zooming. One can edit the images with the help of a simple image editor and at the same time they can add various effects to the photos.
