[How to] Submit RSS feeds and Ping

In my previous article. I included about Feeds. But I am describing them because you may not familiar with them. You often see this icon in the end of Address bar of your browser or in the web sites it self.
What is feed? Feed is a service that updates your post content and summarize. Feed service creates a web page that includes this summarized content and creates a URL. When Users/Visitors subscribed to the feed, a direct Feed button creates in browser. Feeds update automatically showing off the title of the post when new content are available. When subscriber clicks this title, Browser redirects subscriber to the page. Feeds are kind of bookmarks. But Bookmark doesn’t have this updating feature. When someone bookmark your page. He will have to visit your page and search when the new content available. If there is the old content again and again. This visitor surely drops from your visitor base. Feed is a kind of reminder. Therefore providing subscribe to the feed is more effective than bookmarking.
By default blogger activate this feature for all blogs. But you may have mistakenly deactivated this feature. So check this before proceed.

Feeds are so effective that there are several feed management services. Feedburner is the best among all. I am not including how to manage the feed here. Please read my feed management lesson.

Blogs are kind of separated part of World Wide Web. The term Blogosphere means this part of internet. Present Blogs are going popular than websites because of visitor friendliness. Millions of blogs are available now and counting. Find the most suitable blog for the content is hardest ever now. Even the Google search engine provides separate blog search to overcome this. Blog directories came to solve this. Directory submissions directories are often known as Syndicators. When you submit your blog to them. They show your blog in particular section in the site. This mainly depends on the category of your content and votes your site got.

Submitting site and sitemaps to MSN/BING is same as Submitting sitemap to Google. You require Live ID email address (@hotmail.com, @live.com. @msn.com`…etc). However like Google webmaster Central. Bing also maintains their own web master Tool Box. Submitting sitemap to MSN/BING is just a single service in them. I just explained how to add a site map here and a complete tutorial to use Bing tool box is explained in Webmaster tools lesson Series.

If you need many people visit your blog and click your ads. You must give them your URL of your blog. You can’t give this individually. Search engines help us with this. When someone tries to search something, they use these search engines. Search engines crawls the whole web sites in internet and index them. When requested by someone. They show the page.

Sometimes you may not need to submit your url to them. Just check this.

Note that the yourblogname must be changed to your actual blog name. Then hit search.

If the search results show your link. You may not require submission.

There are thousands of web search engines .But you need not to register your site with each of them. You must register with Search engine giants like Google, Yahoo and MSN. Using many flash based icons, videos, music players and menu bars or using several widgets makes your web page much dynamic. But they reduce your site load time and increase the browser rendering errors. Which means visitors has to wait some time to watch your content. When their flash plugins doesn’ t support. They have to download them again. Think if you are the visitor the content doesn’t rendering well with your browser or showing some errors. Do you stay at that site? Do you come again and again to that site? Probably “NO”. Scripts also same. Some people turn off scripts and ActiveX content. Therefore what will happen is visitors miss the main content of your post.

Many webmasters avoid Flash menus and icons because of this. SEO doesn’t match with this. Otherwise CSS can do many of them with browser friendly. They aren’t well mobile friendly. Don’t use much of them.

Other thing is The Hotlinks in your page. Hotlinks means the scripts, pictures, videos and buttons displayed in your blog but actually located in other server. This normally happens in blog directories and submission services. They may give you a link of them to put in your blog. This indicates a small badge of their site.

Use alternative text /alt text

The above code you can see alt="Blogarama - The Blog Directory" when some people turn off pictures from their browsers. Then the alt text appears in that space. The visitor can see it. Use alt text related to that image. Don’t sort it a number or name like button 1 button 2 …etc. alt text plays an important role when sorting to search engines.

Use width height parameters.

As I told you in Images and Hyperlinks tutorials allocating the exact width for the image makes easy for the browser to allocate required space for the image if it downloaded lately and continue downloading the rest.

Be careful

Many blog submission services give you a tracker code for visitor count and voting services. You cannot change this. However blog submission services like Technorati has huge traffic so they never get busy.

GIF images vs JPEG Images

Do you know Gif images loads more quickly than JPEG images? GIF images already formatted for web. .gif Format normally use for animate something but photos can also converted to .gif

Color Quality of the JPEG images is higher than .gif format. If you use images like screen cuts and buttons. Better them to convert to .gif. But your site gives high quality image downloads like background images/wallpapers upload original image to Image host and publish only the thumbnail to your page. Bad link check

Always check that the external links (text links, scripts and images/videos) in your blog are not broken. If you are doing a traffic exchange or exchange links. The other party may have removed your link or site down. Not only that kind of personal site. Some blog directories remove the links and sometimes the directory itself got unavailable. There are two disadvantages of this. They are no longer sending traffic to you and affect the site loading time .you need not to check this manually. Meta tag plays a huge role in INNER WEB SITE SEO. Search engines use these tags to index your page. as a example when you own a blog/web site related to phone stuff. You should add Meta tags related to them. like “mobile” “data plans” “ear buds” .Search engines crawls this meta tags and store your page in related category. when someone search about ear buds ,your page is in that section.(Practically this don’t happen as soon as you entered tags to your page. this depends on several factors in your page)

You can add them manually .In blogger blogs we normaly add them before title tag. therefore you need to know some basic HTML.Please follow my HTMl lessons for knowing basics of them.

Validating your Blog Language with w3 standard

First what you have to do is validate the errors of your web site script to match the w3 standard. Validation doesn’t play huge role in SEO .but less errors in your page means visitors get fewer errors when seeing it. You will see several errors when you done the validation. But don’t worry .it is only require to have less than 100 errors. Even Sites like Google shows 30 errors. Only the w3 site it self and few other sites pass this test with 0 errors.

Images and Hyperlinks (Image Hosting Services)

In Images and Hyperlinks (Basics of photo editing) lesson I told you how to edit a image. After editing you need to show the image in your blog.If you need to insert image to your blog post its very simple in post editor. I already told you about this in How to Create posts in blogger? Lesson.

In several lessons I told you about Grab the image URL. This is top necessary because when we manually change our template we require using our own urls to mention the url. But if you use template editor you can use Bloggers own space for pictures. You can upload them to your account and use it. Google provides 1GB for that.

In In Images and Hyperlinks (Basics of photo editing) lesson I recommended you to use Picasa. Most Photo editors are just software s. But Picasa is two in one service. Photo editor and Image Hosting service.therefore you don’t need to deal with two parties. Images are saved in same server and this directly speed up your site load time.

Google creates a special album of photos you have uploaded to blogger. This also linked to Picasa web albums. So we can manage this storage using Picasa. You can access this using your Gmail Id. this is a flash based online editor. You can edit them too (they called this editing software as picknic). Picasa provides downloadable version. You can edit pictures via it and upload it to Picasa albums. I recommend Picasa because

Another great free host for Images and Videos.You have to register with them and Their services are very reliable.The image can be shared with your Facebook Friends and many social networking sites.

Basic Photo Editing skills must be with every one who is using internet or blogging. You don’t need to be a professional to do so. And need not to be an expert in Photoshop or commercial photo editing package. Basics of photo editing are always needed when you wanted to remove Red Eyes in photos taken by you. When the photos are dark. Then you may require how to lighten. You need to know how to crop photo of you to upload to Facebook or a project. There are several reasons that you need to know the initial photo editing knowledge.

Please consider this before getting a template.

Only Latest and w3c validated Blogger templates support to blogger. Otherwise you will see various error messages when customizing. Good blog authors validate this with w3c slandered and publish the license they got.

This is easy when someone needs to find the blog attached to your web site. First you have to create this domain in you web sites domain control.when creating this domain you needs to provide following details to your Domain control. before submitting custom domain to blogger.

Here how to do it

Create a CNAME record for your blog's address, which should be a subdomain of the form

Creating A records for your naked domain is important as it allows Google to redirect people who use in your naked domain name (blog.com) to your blog page (www.example.com). If you do not do this, visitors who leave off the www will see an error page.

There are four separate A records you will create, and can be done from the same control panel you accessed your CNAME records. Simply point your naked domain (example.com, without the 'www') to each of the following IP addresses:

216.239.32.21

216.239.34.21

216.239.36.21

216.239.38.21

Your DNS setup is now complete!

Now point you domain to blogger by clicking

Then put your domain

Done now you can

Note

This pointing takes up to 72 hours to update DNS servers.therefore you cannot use your new domain as soon as you saved the settings.Dont worry about this.If you follow the instructions well.It will definitly up and running withing the said time period.

you can use your both new domain and old blogger provided address to visit your blog.

If you are not familier with this settings contact your domain control company and they will help you.If you buy a fresh domain from google you dont need to do this settings manualy.They do it for you.

Creating a blog with blogger is simple steps if you already have Google ID/Gmail ID. Gmail address is the key Google services house. You can sign in with your Gmail address. Otherwise create a free Gmail address here.

Press Create Your Blog Now

You should provide your desired blog title and blog address. In correct fields.

Type the word verification correctly and click continue after filling this

You will be prompted to choose a template. Blogger will show a template and click one of them.

Done. Now your blog is ready and the page appears for your first post.

If you don’t like the http://yourblogname.blogspot.com/ URL format for your blog. You can add your own. Please read my custom domain lessons to know how to do this.

You have to choose the blogger templates they provide in these steps even you don’t like it. After you created your blog you can change it. Please read my Install template lesson if you don’t know how to do this.
