No Google toolbar for Google chrome yet!!

After the launch of Google chrome browser, i have been a compulsive user of this browser. I love this lightwieghted browser for its simplicity. It makes your browsing experience different, however one thing that irritates me is that google has still not made an effort to make Google toolbar compatible with thier own browser. Some of the features are good, but i have seen many people not switch to chrome completely because of this incomplete feature. Google has hinted to bring in extension for its browser( and promising to keep the browser simple), Lets hope for the best to come.

Recover deleted bookmarks in Google chrome.

The other day while I was going through my bookmarks folder, I did a big mistake. I deleted my bookmarks folder, in a second I lost all my important bookmarks. I tried undo'ing it but it did'nt work. Unlike Mozilla and Internet Explorer, the bookmarks in Google chrome is maintained in a single file called Bookmark. If you have gone through the same thing I have a solution for you.

The problem in Google chrome bookmark is that the 'rename' option is right before the 'delete' option. Sometimes, you might click the delete option and then your bookmarks bid you a farewell. No option to recover them there.

There is a small editing which is required to recover your bookmakrs.

You should be able to see your hidden folder , so that you can see the Local settings folder.

For Xp user's, Go to : C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

For Vista user's, Go to : C:\Users\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

You can see a file named 'Bookmarks.bak' . May be you can make a backup copy of this folder for safety purpose, but it works out usually. Delete the file 'Bookmark' and rename the file 'Bookmarks.bak' to 'Bookmarks'.

This will solve your problem and you will be able to see your Bookmarks back into place.

Photo's uploaded in Facebook remain online even after deleting!!!

There is a small glitch in the giant social networking website Facebook. Photos that are uploaded into the webite can still be viewed even after you delete them from the album. Just note the url of the photo you upload. After that delete the photo from your album. Even after deleting the photo, the link to the photos works, Unlike Google's picasa and Yahoo's Flickr which removes it immediately after the user deletes it.

Facebook stated that it removes photo's from its servers immediatly after the user delete's it. But the url to the image exist in the Content Delivery Network(CDN) , until they are Over written.

Google chrome OS soon!

I know, this blog has become more googlish now a days, but cant resist from making this post. Google has recently announced that it is planning to launch Chrome OS for computers. Google is posing all possible threat to the rival Microsoft.

Like the browser, the OS is also expected to be lightwieght and faster. The Official blog of google reads"Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS"

The New updated Google toolbar is more advanced and facilitates more translation and is more easier. The team is working on - to make translation more faster and make the browsing experience more easier. If you are unable to read any language in any site. Just try it on Google toolbar. This toolbar is released for Internet explorers. I am not sure if it supports Firefox. It should be supporting Chrome as it is google's native browser.

Downfall of Google in China??

It was a shocker for me this morning, as i woke up and just hung up on the news paper.

The Chinese goverment has accused the internet giant of violating the country's law and has also moved to the extent of blocking the services of Google like Gmail, Google reader and also the mega search engine. The Government blamed Google of spreading pornographic content in the country, the services of the search engine was under the scanner and came under heavy criticism in the past week. The Government,earlier, had also warned the website to clear off the links to the porno contents.

The attempt to ban all porno contents from the country was started with the requirement of all pc to launch with a pre-installed software which blocked all these contents. The services,however, returned to almost normal by thursday evening. But was still unaccesible in certain parts of the country.

The bloggers are rallying the country on 1st july. This is the protest by the bloggers against the banning of ceratin sites which discussed sensitive issues.

Google News : Search your favourite author's Articles!

Any new headlines, Google news has always been a hotspot. Last thursday Google news has launched a new feature which enables a reader to go through the articles by thier desired authors.

The name of the author is highlighted next to "Search results". You can click it to find all the articles listed by that author. The image below explains it.

Just click on the authors name and the articles by that author will be listed down. You can also search for authors by typing "author:" and following the desired name.

Also, you can search for the desired articles in "Advanced Search". Just enter the name of author or the journalist, articles by that author is shown. Next time, you dont want to miss any article by any author- Just Google the author.

The much awaited video game version of the popular fictional movie TRANSFORMERS: Revenge of the Fallen is expected to hit the market on June 23. Now, let me tell you something about this game. All new Kindle DX is out in the market and has several things to offer its users. For those who have been using Kindle 1 and Kindle 2 will see certain features upgraded in this version. To start with, it’s very slim and is just over 1/3 of an inch, has a very large display of 9.7 inch with good pixel resolution and just weighs 18 ounces approx. It has an internal storage of about 4GB.

On a single charge, you can use this device for up to 4 days with wireless on and up to 2 weeks with the wireless turned off. It is also 3G wireless enabled and also has USB port, in case you need to connect to a PC. It has built in speaker with 3.5mm audio jack.

One feature you would notice would be the ‘Text-to-Speech’; Kindle DX can read books, magazines, newspaper and other text files for the user unless the right holder has disabled it.

The new Amazon Kindle DX, hold up to 3500 books and periodicals. It has native PDF reader which was not supported in the previous versions. The device supports several formats like AZW, PDF, TXT, Mp3, AAX, HTML, DOC, JPEG and RTF. Although it has a native PDF reader it does not allow the user to edit the document nor does it allow the user to magnify the documents. Perhaps this is where Kindle DX missed out. It has QWERTY keyboard, but certain keys are merged which sometimes gets over your head.

The Kindle DX also has Auto-Rotate feature which auto rotates the document from landscape to portrait (vice-versa) view whenever the user turns the device.

With a lot of upgrades from the previous versions, there is something the users would have expected the Kindle DX to come up with- ‘Organized folder’ for all the files in the device besides sorting them by author and title but unfortunate that it’s still missing.

Out of the pace of the games of Killing n Shooting, there is this new game which has "RUNNING". Yes you got me right, Running. The main character in this game is the RUNNER. If you are not aware with what a RUNNER is, RUNNERS is a group who are capable of climbing buildings and hanging through ropes, walking on the walls and jumping at heights - A very well trained combat in Parkour. It is a FPS [First Person Shooting] game. Well you may wonder how a game can come up with RUNNERS concept. Electronic Arts have really worked hard on this one. With very decent n pleasing graphics, this is a different game that can get you pinned for sometime. Especially at times where you really need to scratch you head to move along. Game play is quite amusing. But the game can get boring at some point of time for some gamers.

Game story is not very catchy and clear but as this is a DIFFERENT game, you would want to hit the keys for a change. The game supports very wide range of Resolutions and options to improve the quality of graphics. It also supports Anti-Aliasing up to 8x. This game has PhysX support which actually lets the game to accelerate the hardware (Graphics Card) at times it is required. Well PhysX is brought out by Nvidia and is only supported by Nvidia. On some graphic cards including ATI's PhysX may not b advantageous at all. Well when PhysX is kept activated (ON), it may lag the game especially during the fire shoots by the cops. Apart from this EA also has bought in features like "Runner Vision" and "Reaction Time". "Runner Vision" helps the player to know the direction of its destination. "Left Alt" is the key which brings "Runner Vision" into action. The objects marked with “RED” symbolize the objects that can be used to get to towards the destination and sometime it may also indicate the destination. The "Reaction Time" basically can be also termed as BULLET TIME, which actually slows the game play for sometime so that the player can react to the immediate actions of the opponent [Cops, SWAT, and Rival Runner]. The "Reaction Time" comes handy when tackling the opponents.

The main characters name is FAITH. In fact the game's logo imitates the shape of the design around her right eye. Although, the character can use weapons the game is centrally based on the characters. There is no choice for difficulty for the game play. It is quite tricky at times. But li’l of STUBBORNESS and LOOKING-AROUND and INTELLIGENCE may help you get through. This is what I believe from the experience I had playing this game and finishing it off. But I know people getting their hands into this game will have a nice time though. But as everybody says, don’t take the stunts and actions out of the GAME.

We all know, Nokia has launched its latest N97 with several handy features. The new symbian enabled phone comes with a QWERTY keyboard, 3.5 inch touch screen, 5mp camera, 32gb of onboard memory which can be extended by 16gb memory card, Intergrated WiFi, Personalised widgets, Music and Video player, A-Gps enabled which lets users to interact with socail networks.

The eye catcher would be that Nokia is launching this smartphone with Nokia Ovi internet service. The Ovi store will be loaded with Nokia maps, Music store and N-gage games. This interent store has both paid and free contents from across the globe. This service provides a better web access from the smartphone and has services from facebook, twitter and paramount pictures under its belt- thus enhancing the browsing experience of the user. The company said that it plans to introduce more of internet services for the modern internet centric world of users, it also said that it aims at providing solutions through the high-end model which are introduced hereafter.

Besides this, all the features available in the cellphone are optimised in thier own way which makes it a holistic experience to own this smartphone.

Have you ever heard of WiMAX?? If not, then let me explain it to you. WiMAX is abbrevated from of Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access. Its a Wireless technology like WiFi but with a wider coverage. While the WiFi covers just 100-300 mts WiMAX has a coverage of around 10-15kms as the magnitude of WiMAX base stations are more than WiFi. It has more bandwidth and the speed usually ranges from 60-70 mbps, However it is subject to decrease with the signal. The modus operandi is, either it can give a wide coverage with an average speed or can have a good speed with a less coverage. The network signals are transmitted through towers and not through small routers. It doesnt even require hotspots like WiFi do. A fixed WiMAX provides more coverage than a Mobile WiMAX. Its also curbs intefrence as it works on seperate licensed spectrum unlike Wifi which functions on unlicensed spectrum and which is likely to be disturbed with other gadgets using the same spectrum.

The Cost per bit may be costly initially, but the rates are expected to drop down with more people subscribing to this technology in the long run. Many companies like Intel and AMD are planning to launch thier laptops with WiMax enabled chips in future. Its been a greta achievement in technology but all things like human being have some D-merits. The spectrum needed by this technology was always in question. certain companies are coming up with merger plans to launch WiMAX. Also the security system needs to be updated with this technology coming into the market.

Media files converted to Jpeg- I have a Solution!

I faced this problem sometime back which got me wild. I searched a lot of site and asked for peoples help but many came up with foolish answers. But found solution after going through a lot and lot of forums. This problem occurs due to a Malware called MediaControl.exe which affects all the media files in your computer and changes the extensions to .jpeg , however it does not affect the format though.

Now, what this malware does is that- it creates a folder "mcont" in the System32 folder in the C drive. This is just a patch-like-virus and so most of the anti-virus does not detect this. It also creates autorun in the folder, thus making itto run the malware at the startup.

How to remove this Malware??

Firstly, you have to stop this process from running in your system. For this, Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE which will open the Windows task manager. Now go to process tab and find for MediaControl.exe and End the process.

Now, Go to Start->Run and type "msconfig". This will open the System congif Utility. Search for Mediacontrol in the startup tab and stop it from running in the startup.

Next,Restart the sytem and boot in Safemode. Booting in safemode will start the system with only necessary device drivers which in turn will help in detecting troubleshooting better.

Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and search for "mcount" folder. Delete this folder permanantly and restart the pc in normal mode. The malware is now removed from your system but the files which are renamed to ".jpg" still remain the same. You can use any tag editor or auto renamer to rename mulitple files. Hope this solves your problem.

Bing-Is it your default search engine?

Well, for those who have been using Google for a long time now Bing would be a different experience. There is a difference in search results that Bing provides compared to Google. There are a lot of areas in which Bing proves to be a competitor to Google. However Google search results are far more refined than Bing.

The Video search in Bing is one thing that you might look for, It provides grid view to each of the video's as against Google's list view. There are ceratin things which you notice in Bing like the -Comments about site that appears on the right hand side of each link, Related search results that are listed in the left hand side, Advanced search box which lets you search for the exact terms and some other. It would be too early to say that Bing is superior or inferior to Google, But it would definitly occupy some of the market share that Google enjoys now.

We know- Internet has developed a lot in the modern days, making it an important element in our life. With the development and competition around , Telecom companies have come up with certain good offers. The broadband rulers in India are Bharti Airtel and BSNL. Until now, BSNL has been providing good speed and good service- it continues to provide as well. But what we see is- Airtel launching the New Broadband plan which has a speed of whopping 16mpbs, which lets you watch video's without buffering, download music track withins seconds etc.

Now, let me come to the core topic and not talk about other things. This speed which the telecom company provides you- lets you to create back up over the internet. Thus securing your files on distant remote server. Next time your hard disk crashes or you lose your system you can get back your files from the internet. What you have to do is- create "File transfer protocol"(FTP) which allows you to transfer files from your PC to the internet. There is no delay in transfering as the speed allows easy flow of files without stoppage. You can also get this service from certain sites which provides backup faciltiy, but they probably use thier own FTP's.

3G services luring in India!

The 3rd Generation services is all set to be launched in India. Now, what this 3G services does is that it allows the user to make video calls, access the internet with good speed, download music, watch live tv, send and recieve emails etc. Reliance communications is all geared to launch its 3G services in India. It is spending in Millions for this particular service in india. It aims at providing this facility for both CDMA and GSM. Several other telecom companies have also announced to launch this facility but Reliance seems to be in the lead as they have already started advertisng this 3G services under Rcom . Now, to what extent this makes a difference - we need to wait till the launch.

The 3 giant companies have announced an agreement under which Realplayer would come with Google and Mozilla toolbar. While Installation, the users will be provided with an option to either Firefox or the Google toolbar. The agreemnt is supposed to long two years, which may be extended considering the volume of downloads. Realnetwork projects to provide this toolbar facility with Realplayer, RealArcade games and Rhapsody music service in the coming years. This tie up is done with a hope of eliminating the competition from Microsoft's media player.

Iphone to be cheaper, to gain more market.

The Iphone in India is believed to be made cheaper so that it can cater to many people in the country. As per the news, the basic entry model is supposed to be priced at 99$. Which will cost approximatel 4600 indian rupees. Compared to the price when it was launched previously , the new price seems a lot cheaper. All we have to see is the facilities offered by this $99 priced Iphone.

Twitter is a new fast growing social network which has been able to attract a lot of people. According to some research only a little amount of the users generate nearly 90% of the content in the network. Several companies have turned to twitter in order to know how the consumers rate them. Companies like Jet and Dell are the members of Twitter who use the networking site to show changes in flight timings and Discount offers respectively.
