Picnik is closing – Get Premium features for Free till April 19, 2012

Picnik was acquired by Google and then integrated Picnik into Google Photos (Picasa) and Google+ earlier, but still the Picnik service was provided to the existing users and premium customers. Now Google is completely shutting down individual service Picnik and will continue only on Google Photos and Google+.

Closing of Picnik is not only affecting the free users, but also the premium users who have paid $$$ to use the premium features from Picnik. But nothing to worry , Google will refund the money which has got from premium users. Even if you are on your very last day of an annual membership, we will refund you the entire $24.95.

While the money is returned , what happens to the photos which you have edited and stored in Picnik. Yes you will be able to download all your work as ZIP file. and the exciting news is that till April 19 2012 all the premium features are available for free for all the users. Enjoy editing your photos on the stunning tool Picnik.

Picnik was first introduced in Yahoo Email as an add-on application and later Google acquired Picnik and integrated in Picasa web. Now Google has integrated picnik into Google+ without mentioning as Picnik , but where as in Picasa web it mentioned picnik as such a add-on.

[CES 2012] Asus launched Transformer Prime 700 Series

Asus has launched a upgraded version of Transformer Prime Tablet named as Prime TF700T higher resolution (1920x1200) display, a better front facing camera (2MP), and featuring a new back panel design. According to ASUS does not replace the TF201, remains practically the same as the original Prime and both of them features the next generation Tegra3 processor.

Google has announced that it will be rolling out new updates and features to Google+ in the coming days and one important feature is the ability to start Hangouts from Google+ Android App. Earlier we were able to only attend the Hangouts from the Mobile, now you can start the Hangouts from Android Devices.

In the Google Official blog post today they have mentioned about the various features coming soon to Google+. And the best part of this feature is you can switch between the Video and chat conversation on one click.

Now you can draw your own paintings or hand written notes and send as email right inside the Gmail App. In the Gmail app and Gmail for mobile you can now open up a canvas and scribble a message that will be attached to your email. It's perfect for sending a quick sketch that is hard to express in words or adding a fun graphic to make your email more personal.

Google announced Google+ earlier this year and started tightly integrated its services with Google+ including the search results.

Google Maps for Android gets updated to version 6.0 which brings Indoor Navigation for Airports and Shopping Malls. Google has partnered with various Malls and Airport Authorities to give a complete floor plan of these places. With Google Maps 6.0 you can find your direction not only to the gate of a Airport/Mall but also right inside the place.

Detailed floor plans automatically appear when you’re viewing the map and zoomed in on a building where indoor map data is available. The familiar “blue dot” icon indicates your location within several meters, and when you move up or down a level in a building with multiple floors, the interface will automatically update to display which floor you’re on. All this is achieved by using an approach similar to that of ‘My Location’ for outdoor spaces, but fine tuned for indoors.

Google Music Store is much awaited service from Google on Android Platform is finally launched and available for public. There were lot of rumors on the launch for Google Music Store and its live now. Google Music also graduates from Beta and continue to be free for users to store upto 20,000 songs.

Note that Google Music and Google Music Store are two separate services. Jon Jandai is a farmer from northeastern Thailand. He founded the Pun Pun Center for Self-reliance, an organic farm outside Chiang Mai, with his wife Peggy Reents in 2003. Pun Pun doubles as a center for sustainable living and seed production, aiming to bring indigenous and rare seeds back into use. It regularly hosts training on simple techniques to live more sustainably. Outside of Pun Pun, Jon is a leader in bringing the natural building movement to Thailand, appearing as a spokesperson on dozens of publications and TV programs for the past 10 years.

This is what Pun Pun Center community people say about themselves.

We are currently around 15 Thais and international peoples (mostly Thai), speaking both English and Thai, and spanning in age from five-years old to 45. We moved onto the Pun Pun land in July 2003. We live, eat, work, and teach together in community. We organically grow the food we eat. We build our natural dwellings with our own hands. We maintain a seed-saving operation where we collect, propagate, and network rare, heirloom, and local seeds. On a regular basis, we have many visitors from within Thailand, surrounding countries, and other parts of the world. We host hands-on educational events to share our knowledge with others. Several of us travel extensively, working with villagers, NGO’s, and others. We are located 50+km North of Chiang Mai, Thailand’s second largest city.

Google silently rolled out Photo Editing Feature via Picnik to Google+. If you are familiar with the Cloud based photo editing tool Picnik it should be transparent to you to use Google+ photo editing feature. Even though Google hasn’t mentioned anywhere that its Picnik it’s the same features and tools available on Google+ editing as well.

Photo Editing feature in Google+ comes with various features which includes Basic Editing like Auto Fixing, Crop, Rotate, Colors etc and some advanced/fancy features like Color Effect, Camera Effects, Touch up etc. Apart from that you have some effects which are listed as Google+ exclusive.

Photo Editing feature is also available handy when you upload a photo to update your Profile Picture in Google+. A cool thing which we noticed on Google+ Photo Editing is that it gives nice hint on using a specific tool with a little animated popup box.

The latest trend in global technology is implementing and developing programs that work within “The Cloud.” Even traditional services like online fax and word processors are going viral. Here are the pros/cons to bringing your business off of the ground and into the Cloud.

First and foremost, what is The Cloud? If your are using and web-based services, you are already participating in cloud computing. Simply put, cloud computing is executed through a web-browser, as opposed to client-server computing, which requires someone to download and save applications on one computer system.

The benefits of cloud computing are numerous and convincing:

More users are able to access programs from diverse locales, allowing for “increased equipment utilization.”
The flexibility of cloud computing allows users to redesign servers to their benefit, tailoring them to their specific needs and dropping energy costly features.
The scalability of cloud computing has been frequently cited. If your business grows you an easily order more server space to accommodate the changes.
By far, the biggest reason companies are switching to cloud computing is cost advantages. A recent analysis by WSP Environment & Energy determined that the per-transaction emissions were reduced by an average of 95% for companies that switched to cloud computing.

With the popularity and boom of cloud computing on the technology scene, it’s gained skeptics. Despite it’s many “pro’s,” plugging into the cloud could have some potential downsides:

Some contend that the immediate expenses saved with cloud computing don’t always just disappear. The cloud-model requires staff to run databases, answer helplines, and manage applications. Of course, these complications depend on the size of your company and the degree to which you are implementing cloud computing. To minimize these additional costs, be sure to accurately and meticulously gauge how much/little computing you need and adjust from there.
Outages are inevitable, as clearly exemplified by the notorious Amazon Web Services fall. One way to minimize risk of information loss is to use multiple cloud providers and “backing up” by building redundancies into your applications.

While there are a few downsides to cloud computing, it is an imperative for companies to adopt this technology. According to a recent report by Salesforce.com and VCE requested by the U.S. government’s Commerce Department, “cloud computing will become as important as the Internet in maintaining U.S. competitiveness.” Not only is cloud computing essential for revitalizing the economy, it’s essential for you business to stay ahead of the curve.

Everyone of us know Steve Jobs resigned as CEO of Apple Inc. He has officially announced in an open letter to all board of directors and the entire Apple community that he will no longer be able to meet his duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO. Though I mostly write about Android than Apple Products, I admire Steve Jobs when I look at the way he brought up the Apple Inc and his inventions. Being a great fan of Steve Jobs , I wanted to share some facts and news about Steve’s past which I have come across the web.

Steve Jobs has given us the revolutionary product to the world from the beginning. From the first Personal Computer to revolutionary UI with multi touch.
