Matt Herndon is a freelance writer living and working in the Indianapolis area. His undergraduate and graduate work was completed in Upper East Tennessee where he studied communication and leadership development.

In 2012, technology is integrated into almost every aspect of life, from a trip to the grocery store to the intricate infrastructure of a top Fortune 500 company. Jobs in technology continue to be in high demand, but changes in the technology infrastructure translate into changes in the job front. Those looking for new positions in the IT industry may find these five opportunities to be in high demand in 2012.

  Mobile Application Developers

While corporate information technology may have been one of the most well known ways to apply your IT degree, today’s young graduate is looking toward mobile technology. Since mobile devices are becoming ubiquitous, it stands to reason that the demand for apps is going to be strong as well. Having a background in IT can be a good start for understanding systems and may be a good foundation for a programming education later. Not only do consumers demand apps that allow them to have some fun on their devices or improve the functionality of their devices, but companies will continue to need professionals who can help them create their own apps and mobile sites to market their products and services

2. IT Security

It seems like a new security breach is making the news almost weekly, and this is increasing the need for IT security professionals. Companies need to keep their data secure, yet hackers are coming up with creative ways around traditional security measures. Add to this the rise in cloud computing, and companies have even more pathways through which cyber thieves can get through, thus increasing the need for cyber security professionals.

3. Infrastructure Professionals

While some companies are eliminating their internal infrastructures in favor of the cloud, others are maintaining the status quo. One factor fueling the demand for infrastructure professionals is the switch to Windows 7. As companies make this switch, they often discover they must upgrade their infrastructure, and this is a need that an IT professional can meet

4. Web 2.0 Professionals

Social media and similar websites are here to stay, and businesses are now seeking talent to help them develop their Web 2.0 strategies. This goes beyond simply developing a social media strategy. Technology professions who understand HTML, XML, CSS, AJAX, PHP and similar coding will be in high demand as companies continue to try to use these online platforms to engage their customers

5. User Experience Designers

The user experience is becoming the main selling point for software and mobile apps, as the majority of those being created today are customer facing. IT professionals who know how to create successful user experiences through software and apps will be in high demand. Not only is there a great career potential in this field, but trying out new technology and perfecting it for the general marketplace is right up their alley.

In 2012, the outlook for technology professionals is excellent. High demand and interesting job options make this a rewarding career path. Whether you are looking for a career change or are about to graduate with a technology degree, these jobs show excellent promise in the upcoming year.

Smartphones are popular for their ability to perform a variety of functions. Many of these functions are performed through the use of apps which have been designed specifically for that phone. Have you ever wondered where all the apps come from that populate the app stores of various platforms? You might think they have been developed by the company themselves. While this is true for a small amount, actually most of them have been designed by people not affiliated with the company. The development of apps has become a profitable industry for software developers. Despite the wide range of developers, there is still a certain protocol that must be followed in the app development process.

The first step is to of course determine the requirements of the application. Think about how the user will use it and what features they will want. This will help establish the objective of the finished app product. Next, using this objective creates the specifications for designing the software. This will be detailed information regarding the technical aspects of the app. After this has been accomplished, the next step is simply to write the code. The specifications for the design will be used to guide the coding. When the coding is completed, the application should work.

Now the next phase in the development of an app is testing. You never put an app out on the market without first testing its capabilities. Testing will help determine what issues may exist with the app. This can allow for troubleshooting and further testing. This pattern continues until the app functions without any issues. The app is now ready to be uploaded to app stores. Keep in mind that you job is not done as you must continue to maintain your app. You will need to fix bugs that may occur with the users. Also, as hardware and software change, updates will need to occur to keep the app compliant.
If you want to know more information about the different phones that can take apps you can take a look at Phones 4 U and their website.

Automated data input and output systems in Google Chrome make life easier and more convenient. It helps you save time by simply selecting and clicking options that are presented to you, instead of manually typing into data entry forms each time.
However, though it is indeed effective and efficient, it is hardly ever safe (to a considerable degree at least) to use. True, the data generated automatically by Google Chrome could help you access your computer and website accounts very easily, but did you know that the web browser also makes access easy for nearly everyone, not just you. The Omnibox, the database that is used by Google Chrome to give you all those personalized suggestions, isn’t actually definitively proven to be capable of storing information anonymously. That means, there is a chance your personal information might be exploited in this box.

What are we supposed to do to regain privacy in Google Chrome then? We suggest that you follow these three very simple but significantly important steps:

Switch Your Default Search Engine for Another

This might sound a little counter-intuitive, especially if you are already completely accustomed to using the convenient features of its search engine. However, this might be the simplest solution that you can do to prevent personal user information from piling up in the Omnibox. To change your default search engine in Chrome go to Customize, then Options, then Basics tab and select another search engine under “Default” search.

Aside from switching default search engines, it might also be a little more prudent to always log out accounts that you don’t actually actively use so that search logs from those accounts are not mixed with your regular search logs. For example, you can log out your Gmail account if you are not going to actively use it for the next three hours or so.

If you want to protect data for longer term security uses, check out iVPN.net.

Disable the Suggestion Service Feature

Another effective method to regain your privacy in the Google Chrome web browser is by disabling the suggestion service. The explanation for this is pretty straightforward. Since the suggestion service is disabled, it would not be able to process the needed information in the Omnibox, which also subsequently limits the web browser from actively collecting personal user data and preferences. To disable the suggestion service feature, simply go again to Customize then Options, search for the checkbox that enables the suggestions service (for older versions it’s on Default Search Engine then Manage), and uncheck it.

Eliminate the Unique Browser ID

Because this step could be very technical, we would instead just suggest a few head instructions. The best method used in fulfilling this step is by using a special tool. There are many downloadable Google Chrome browser ID removal tools out there, and you only need to choose the one that would be easiest to use and control. These tools usually not only remove the ID, but also prevents Google Chrome from reassigning you a new one.

After removing the browser ID, it is recommended that you find a good Google Chrome Anonymizer, so that each use of the browser would be registered as an anonymous session.

Own an Android smartphone? You may be wasting all kinds of time and not realizing it. That’s because there are many amazing apps that take the tedium out of everyday tasks.

I’m going to recommend a group of apps that I’ve personally found to be extremely helpful. Some of them can be picked up immediately, while others require setup and a learning curve. However, they’re all useful and will speed up how you do business.

Writing Faster

SwiftKey X Keyboard: This popular alternative keyboard has barely any learning curve and yet is incredibly useful. Having heard much about this app, I loaded it onto my new Samsung Galaxy S from T-Mobile. Over time, it became better at predicting the words I would type, saving me all kinds of hassle. ($2.99)

8Pen: The makers of this quirky app contend the traditional QWERTY keyboard is way less than ideal for smartphones. So they came up with their own input scheme. It takes a long time to learn, but devotees of this tool swear by it. ($0.99)

Inserty: Finally, I can recommend Inserty for anyone who repeatedly types out similar e-mails or does tedious data input. This app allows you to save “snippets” of text, which you can easily copy-and-paste into other apps. (Free)

Making Events and Appointments

Pocket Informant: If you’re constantly making the same appointments over and over again, you’ll love this app. For instance, I do three workouts a week, but not always on the same days of the week. So I’ve created a “Workout” template that includes the category, location, and duration. All I need to add is the time. ($12.99)

Quick Event: This app offers yet another way to create calendar appointments. Using this app, you can type new events using plain language (“Dentist at 5 pm Monday”), and it will be processed and added to your Google Calendar in a snap. (Free)

Tracking Your Finances

Expensify: This app is ideal for keeping track of your business expenses, from car miles to cash purchases. Because it connects to many banks, it will do the work for you of inputting many expenses. Plus, you can scan paper receipts for a one-step input of those. (Free)

MobileBiz Trial: Where Expensify is amazing for expenses, MobileBiz offers fantastic tools for invoicing, sales, and collections. Using this app, you can easily create estimates and detailed invoices, plus you can print them and track your clients’ payments. (Free)

Ashlee McCullen is a staff writer for ApronAddicts.com, a website about kitchen fashion and home style. She also writes about mobile technology and self-improvement.

This is a guest post by Vishal. He is a Mac enthusiast who love to spread knowledge about the usefulness of Mac OS X drive defrag tool.

Are you feeling that your Mac is not as active and smart as it was sometimes back when you bought it? Or your Mac is taking more than usual time to access even a single file? Well, don’t panic as the dipped performance of Mac is one of the common issues with Mac users and the reason for this problem is hard drive fragmentation. Drive fragmentation is a common phenomenon which occurs with almost all hard drives despite of the operating system used. However, to defrag Mac hard drives and get back their performances there are number of third-party defrag software available on line.

In such situation, a very common question which a Mac user may ask is what drive fragmentation is and how it occurs in one of the most robust operating systems i.e. Mac? Let us understand the reason for this. Using Mac over a period of time, we save and delete large number of files. Sometimes deletion of a file creates free space between saved files or used memory and in such situation when you save a new file then it will for sure occupy this free space. However, if the saved file is large in size than the available free space between these files then this new file will be divided into parts and saved at different memory locations on the hard drive. This is called fragmentation. When you try to access this file then it will take more time as it has to be found and collected from different locations. Similarly when you save a file in fragmented hard drive then multiple memory spaces has to be found, the file has to be broken into parts and then it is saved. Moreover a link between these multiple parts has to be maintained.

Therefore, to retrieve and store files on this fragmented disks naturally takes more time. To overcome such situation, defragmentation of hard drive is recommended. One of the highly recommended and awards winning software for this category is Stellar Drive Defrag. The software efficiently searches for all the scattered fragments of files/data on Mac hard drive or volume and organizes them to occupy continuous memory location. Thus, the software improves the data access speed and optimizes the performance of Mac hard drive. The software enables you to create the bootable DVD of your Mac which can be used to boot your machine as well as enable you to perform defragmentation on boot volume. The software is compatible with latest Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, 10.6 Snow Leopard, 10.5 Leopard, and 10.4 Tiger.

So, what are you waiting for? Opt for this utility and get the performance of your Mac back!!

You might have heard about him if you are a regular reader of some of the biggest make money online blogs like problogger.net, dailyblogtips.com, etc. His name is Onibalusi Bamidele. Onibalusi is an 18 year old Nigerian who make about $5000 online. His story is really amazing and I am really grateful to interview him on Tech and Project. He blogs on YoungPrePro.com

Shahzad: As a successful online entrepreneur, I would like to ask (most of your readers may have the same question in their mind) are you still going to school? What is your educational background?

Onibalusi: Yes, I’m still going to school. I studied science in high school, and I have unique interest in how computers work. I’m currently enrolled to study computer science in college, so I’m still going to school.

Shahzad: You heard about concept of making money online in October 2009, you started the blog youngprepro.com in 2nd of April 2010. Everything happened in 6 month duration. Do you have any previous experience before creating youngprepro blog. Have you done any mistakes?

Onibalusi: Actually, I had a blog before I started YoungPrePro; I stopped the blog 4 months after starting it, because I didn’t like the domain name. I didn’t expect things to work so fast with YoungPrePro, but, to be sincere, I gave all I had to make it a success.

I’ve made a lot of mistakes, but the most important thing isn’t the mistakes but the lessons I learned from them.

Shahzad: How exactly you make money online?

Onibalusi: I make money by writing for others; I offer my services as a freelance writer, and I use my blog to drive clients to my business.

Shahzad: How your daily routine goes on? How many hours do you spend for writing? What are your hobbies?

Onibalusi: Seriously, my daily routine is so unorganized that I doubt I can keep track of that. I spend anything from 1hr to 8 hrs a day writing. My favorite hobby is watching movies.

Shahzad: Somewhere from your blog I’ve read that you have poor internet connection. How do you manage it as a guy who makes his living online? Who or what really motivate you to build an online career?

Onibalusi: Aha, I partnered with a cafe owner in my country to access the internet; I knew of a way to access the internet for free, so I shared it with him in exchange for letting me use his cafe for free whenever I want to.

In regards to my motivation to get started online, I was motivated by Bill Gate’s success to get started online. Bill Gates is someone I so much respect, and when I noticed that computers are the source of his income, I decided it is a path I, too, wanted to take.

Shahzad: English language is the problem for most of the people who want to build their career online. Heard that part of Nigerian population speaks English and of course Nigerian official language is English. So you might not have that problem. How was your situation? Does your English skill help you for online writing?

Onibalusi: Yes, it does.

Shahzad: Making approximately $5000 a month; you might be living like a king there right?

Onibalusi: Actually, the bulk of my income is from working as a freelance writer. In regards to living like a king, I guess it’s not time for that yet…lol

Shahzad: What are your future projects?

Onibalusi: I don’t have any specific project in mind at the moment, but I want to help as many people as possible succeed online.

Shahzad: What advice you would like to give those who are interested to build an online career?

Onibalusi: Get started, stop dreaming, and start acting. The key lies in knowing what you want to do and acting towards it.

As we mentioned in the previous post, installing Wampserver is an important task to learn, edit and develop PHP files. In this chapter let us learn how to install wordpress with your Wamp server (for Windows user). If you have no idea what Wamp server is and why installing Wamp on local computer is a must for learning and development of PHP and WordPress, consider reading previous chapter explaining Wampserver and installation process here.

Why to install WordPress on local computer?

As we all know WordPress is a free tool used as content management system (CMS) for blogs based on PHP and MySQL. The same tool is used as content management system for this blog. WordPress is installed on web servers. It can also be installed locally on our computers. Installing wordpress on computers is very easy task and you don’t need to have any skill or PHP knowledge background.

Installing wordpress is must for you:

If you are looking forward to be a contributor of wordpress, as an open source program developer (probably at Google Summer of Code, but this year they are not participating).

If you would like to learn, edit and develop PHP projects used for wordpress including wordpress plugin or wordpress theme.

If you don’t own a domain name and web host but want to play with PHP on wordpress.

If you do own a domain name and a web host running wordpress on it but want to test drive some features on it before going it live.

Install WordPress with WampServer on local computer

If you have not installed wampserver yet, read this: how to install wampserver to your local computer. On Windows you can see your WampServer folder at “C:Wamp”. The public website directory is ‘c:\wamp\www\‘. After the installation, you can go through the below given procedures to install and use worpdress on your local host.

Download and extract wordpress software

Create MySQL database

Install WordPress

Step 1: Download and extract wordpress software

Download WordPress from the official site. Create a file inside the directory and name it as your wish; here I name it as “first project”. So now here we can access it by ‘c:\wamp\www\first project‘. Then extract the wordpress file to that folder.

Step2: Create MySQL Database

Check if your WampServer is ON. On the taskbar you can see the symbol of WampServer if it is ON. Else you should keep it on by double clicking WampManager icon from C:\wamp or where you are installed the Wamp.

After keeping it on to create MySQL Database open up your browser and go to http://localhost/ and click phpmyadmin click database ànd create a database, enter name as wordpress.

Step 3: Install WordPress

Now go back to http://localhost and click on “first project” under your projects then click wordpress –>click create a configuration file.

You can now see a wordpress screen there. Click Let’s go–>Select database name as WordPress and username as root. Click Submit.

You’ll be prompted to continue installation, click run the install. That’s it!
