HP products bad on quality

Some time back i used to think that HP is a good brand. Not anymore. Recently i bought a new HP laptop from Costco. Even after facing weird shutdowns 2-3 times, i somehow decided not to return it. About 4 months later i realised that this was a defective model from HP. Even in my office, a HP printer was returned twice under the warranty and it still wont print correctly. HP.....what happened to the Quality ???

Linux - Give it a try

Today there are more than 100 different ways you can give Linux a try without hurting your M$ windows installation. Most of the options are based on using the Live CD's which allow you to boot your computer using a CD/DVD with a complete installation available on it. You will not need to install "anything" to your hard drive or make "any" kind of changes to your computer. The linux CD will boot into a completely graphical user interface which may be based on a variety of UI shells like Gnome, KDE, XFCE etc. Even if you have a grandma PC ( Pentium 1, 2 or 3) sitting in the attic, you can put life into it with these CD's. And if you have a cutting edge next generation PC then you can test drive the latest and the greatest in eye candy with Beryl or Compiz-fusion which will put even a Mac or Vista to shame.

Just search google for Linux live cd and optionally you can search for Beryl or Compiz live cd to get a blast of eye candy.

Don't use that unsubscribe feature

So you got that unwanted spam mail in your mailbox. You decide to unsubscribe your email by clicking on the unsubscribe link in the mail itself.

BEWARE !!! If you do that, you might make the spam company aware that your email address is valid and active!

RESULT???
Instead of getting unsubscribed, you start getting even more spam mails!!

SOLUTION?
Use the spam feature of your email instead. Yahoo, gmail, hotmail, etc do provide this feature. If this still bothers you, use the block feature ( if your email provides it). For example, Yahoo provides a blacklist feature for unwelcome mail. In the blacklist feature, if u don’t want email from "spammer.com", just type spammer.com into the blocking address box, and any email address from “@spammer.com” will be blocked. Don’t want to get mail from a certain address or domain? OK. Block it – block up to 500! Incoming mail from blocked addresses and domains is automatically deleted and doesn’t bounce back to the sender. And if you change your mind, remove a blocked address or domain to re-open your Inbox.

Add a block, remove a block

Set up a block by clicking in the box next to "Add a blocked address:" and typing the address. When you’re done, click Add. That’s it. Remove a block by clicking on any address you’d like to remove from the list, then clicking Remove. (You won’t see Remove until you’ve added at least one blocked address.)

Block an entire domain

You can also block an entire domain by typing it in the same spot. Don’t want email from "spammer.com"? Type spammer.com into the box, and any email address from “@spammer.com” will be blocked. It's that easy !!!

There are various key loggers on the internet which capture your key strokes when you use your computer. These are the softwares that get installed on your computer while you are busy trying to download or install a useful software on your computer from a website. For example, if you are trying to download a screensaver from a website, another program would also get installed along with it unless you specifically uncheck that item. Most of the people think that these are a part of the software, so they don't uncheck it. These unwanted softwares are called spywares. They track the cookies and all personal data along with your key strokes. This means that when you type in your credit card numbers, etc, they are all captured by these key loggers and then they can be use by unauthorized users. In order to make sure that you do not get hurt by these unwanted softwares installed on your computer,

1. Always download a software from a trusted site.

2. Install adaware and run it frequently. Adaware is a software that finds all the spywares on the computer and then deletes them. However, you need to be careful while deleting the files bcos sometimes it might detect useful files as sypwares too.

3. As a precaution, while typing your credit card digits, type them in random order.

4. Always clear your cookies before logging on to a banking site and after logging out from the site.

5. Use longer passwords with a combination of a digit, alphabet and (if allowed) special characters.
