When your own rules create censorship

This is a tough one. Blizzards/Activision should in no way act as a sensor for China or any other government. But Blitzchung did violate Section 6.1 of the official Hearthstone Grandmasters rules, by offending a portion or group of the public, in this case…. China with his Pro Hong Kong support in an interview after winning a match.

If you don’t uphold a rule when something like a third of your user base is offended, when should you enforce it? If its not enforced, why have it? If you don’t have it you open yourself up up to neo-nazis, racism, and worse…

As a daily Hearthstone player for many years, there is a part of me that wants to boycott the game because of this. But I know its not some corp exec in china’s pocket….

MS Surface Duo (and Neo)

OK I’ll admit I’ve been a bit of a naysayer on this mostly because of I have heard rumors of this unicorn for years. Like seriously many years. But now that its here. It looks pretty cool

I like that it can fold both ways thanks to not trying to make the screen itself foldable, I like the Microsoft application layer on top of android. The form factor especially in horizontal mode is very compelling.

If this comes out with a good camera and software… I’m in. Especially at the enterprise level.

Did Amazon just accidentally save Western Union?

Amazon just announced Amazon PayCode. A service that allows users to order online then check out using PayCode. They then can take cash to any Western Union with their Amazon PayCode and pay for their Amazon order.

Its a thinly veiled attempt to get Walmart customers without credit or debit cards to use Amazon instead.

But in the process its propping up Western Union, whose business model of sending cash across large distances has seemed less and less relevant since the introduction of PayPal, and the myriad of app based payment systems.

Amazon payments can be taken to Western Union, returns can be taken to Kohls. Whats next?
