Delete has been common word which is used by every individual at least once in a day. We delete our chats, videos, messages, photos, etc. everyday but HAVE YOU ever thought WHERE DO THESE DELETED DATA GO? According to the Meriam Webster, Delete means to remove (something, such as words, pictures, or computer files) from a document, recording, computer, etc. Delete has been derived from the latin Word ‘deletus’. The GOOGLE NGRAM VIEWER allows you to search words and phrases in 5.2 million’s book published between 1500 and 2008. It’s a great way to see how the words we use have changes overtime. 1979 was a significant year. According to the Ngram Viewer, it was the first year we begin to use the word delete more often than the word erase. People have been using this word from time to time. Although it has become popular only after the advent of computers.

HOW DOES A COMPUTER FORGET??

Moving a file into the trash (Recycle bin) is just the beginning. To protect an accidental deletion, the file that we delete from our system remains in recycle bin where it needs an ultimate resurrection i.e full removal of file from system. When we open the trash we can see the deleted file in the trash and we restore that file if we wish. But when we delete the file from the recycle bin where does it go? Have you ever seen your file moving out of your system? What goes in must come out. Have you ever thought about that?

Remember, when you delete a file from the recycle bin it’s actually not deleted from the system, it is marked as deleted or empty. Available if and when new data needs to be stored somewhere. The file’s home has become available real estate but the file itself hasn’t moved out. Only the pointers (pointer holds the address of a particular data) have gone away. Pointers are another type of data on your device that point to places in memory where the actual file they are referencing can be found. They are a bit like table of contents, which means that on most operating systems deleting the file or emptying the recycle bin is like deleting a chapter from a book by turning to the table of contents and marking the chapter as empty but actually when you turn pages you can find the chapter which had been marked as empty in the table of contents. To a computer reading table of contents it looks like the space is empty but of course that doesn’t change the fact that the contents of the chapter are still there.

On any hard disk, there is a table stored that says "File-X is stored in the following location(s): ", let’s say File- X is located in location- A.

When the user access the request to File-X, the drive knows where to go look for it. When a user request for the deletion of File-X, location- A is marked as empty inside the file table. Therefore File- X stays there but to the user location- A is nothing but reusable empty space which means that space is available for new data.

As long as no new data had been written over the sectors that originally housed that information, everything was still there and you could recover it simply by telling the table to restore the data using some special softwares like Recuva which fetch the data from the location(s) which are marked as empty, they can even find a file and save it , bring it back mark it not available, undeleted. Over writing the new data over the sectors that originally housed that information is also not enough because of something called bad sectors. Bad sectors are the area on the hard drive which cannot be over written because of failed transistor or physical damage. That’s means that any data that was ever put there, stays there.

So that allows a pretty easy method of recovering a file providing the sectors that housed it hadn't yet been overwritten. The Windows recycle bin simply delays this process by moving "deleted" files into a special holding area, noting the original location and date it was deleted. After a certain period of time, the "proper" delete takes place.

Now, some people realised that if they wanted to actually get rid of a file, a simple delete might not be sufficient, after all simply by restoring the data in the file table, there's a reasonable chance it might be able to be recovered, especially if it hadn't been a long time since the delete took place. So a method called "zero filling" was invented. This involved filling every byte of the original file with a "0", and then deleting the file. That way, even if you do restore the data in the file table, all you're going to get back is an empty file. It effectively ensures that the disk sectors are already overwritten at the time of deletion.

Fool proof? Not quite. To understand the next bit requires some knowledge of how magnetic media operate. The surface of the drive is covered in a magnetically influenceable material which is divided up into small chunks. Each of these chunks can represent a binary 0 or 1 depending on the magnetic orientation. Let's say that a horizontal orientation represents a zero and a vertical orientation a one. The drive reads the orientation of each tiny segment and returns a 0 or a 1. So far so good.

So here's an example chunk of drive representing part of a file:

So now we want to completely erase this file by changing everything to zeros. So we tell the drive to change everything to an horizontal orientation. Simple, right?

Except that the magnetic write head doesn't do this with 100% efficiency. That is, the orientations are never 100% horizontal, or 100% vertical. The read head will quite happily read a bit that is 98% vertical as a 1, or just off horizontal as a 0. It doesn't really matter, as long as you can make out what it's supposed to be.

So there, everything will now be read as a zero. But by looking at the precise orientations, you can tell what used to be a 1 and what used to be a zero. If you've got access to the exact values of orientation, you can tell what the sectors used to be.

That's the principle of the hard core recovery available to the FBI and other agencies (even you, if you've got enough money). It is impossible to delete the data!!! So if you are in the United States Department of Defenses and you don’t want to take any risks, you will also shred(break), physically polarize unwanted drives. The US, Europe, Japan often sends such electronics waste to dumps in Ghana, like this one.

This city in Ghana is known as “Earth’s digital dumping ground”. Why Ghana? Well, it is cheaper to send unsalvageable electronics to Africa, marked as a donation, than it is to properly recycle them. But there in this electronics dump files can be still brought back to life. Organized criminals in Ghana have managed to successfully recover data from unregulated e-dumps. They have been able to find confidential multi-million-dollar agreements, involving the Defense Intelligence Agency, Homeland Security and the TSA. If you want to delete something ,destroy it, erase it the ultimate thing you have to do is just burn it!!!

Today we are very much closer to our electronic gadgets than anything. No matter whether it is during day or at night time we are attached to these devices as if they are parts of our body. Well many of us take them to our toilet also. Studies suggest that 60% of people spend more than 6 hours a day in front of a digital device. The continuous use of mobile devices and laptops or pc's have direct impact on our health.

But How?

We may have often realized that after continuously viewing the screens of such devices for a long time, we feel dry or irritable eyes, blurred vision, head, neck and back pains. But it seems like we aren't much concerned about it unless we know that they can seriously cause permanent damage to our eyes and body.

What is BLUE LIGHT?

BLUE LIGHT is high frequency, high-energy light with wavelength around 475nm. There are many sources of blue light. They include Sun which is the main source of blue light. The Pineal gland of our brain secretes hormone known as “MELATONIN” which regulates our sleep cycles. Artificial Blue light suppresses melatonin levels making a person difficult to sleep. Reduction of this hormone will result in weak communication between our body and brain, our brain will not get the message that it’s time to sleep. Due to this we will not feel sleepy and will not sleep at all.

When you delete a file, it's faster for Windows to mark its MFT entry as 'deleted' than for Windows to overwrite the file itself, so the file is left on the hard drive. So any deleted file that you want to bring back, the older it is, the harder it will be to bring back. Plus if you are able to bring it back, the older it is, the more corrupted the file will be. So if you want to bring a deleted file back, you need to do it as fast as possible. The more you delay, the less chance there is of recovering it.

Recuva is a data recovery program for windows, developed by piriform. It is able to recover files that have been "permanently" deleted and marked by the operating system as free space.The program can also be used to recover files deleted from USB flash drives, memory card, or MP3 player.

Regular recovery process

When you first delete a file, Windows does not overwrite the MFT entry until it needs to reuse it.Recuva scans the MFT for files marked as deleted. Since MFT entries for deleted files are still complete (including when the file was deleted, how big it is, and where it lives on the hard drive), Recuva can give you a comprehensive list of many files and help you to recover them.

As Windows finds the need to create new files, however, it will eventually reuse and overwrite these MFT entries as well as the spaces on the hard drive where the new files actually live. That's why Recuva can't recover every file - and that's why your best bet is to run Recuva as soon as you realize the file's been deleted.

STEPS FOR RECOVERING DATA

1. After opening the program, select the drive where the file was deleted then click the “scan” button. the file was deleted then click the “scan” button.

2. Recuva then starts sweeping the specified hard drive looking for files that are able to be restored.

3. You then get a list of all the files that Recuva was able to find. As you can see, some of the files are unidentifiable with just scrambled file names but a lot of other files have their original names intact (more on that later). What I really liked about Recuva is that it has a colour-coded system where you can see right away the status of each file and whether or not it is in any condition to be downloaded successfully or not.

Red means the file is basically screwed and you can forget it. Yellow means the file is in very bad condition but you can still download it and take your chances with it – some of it might be salvageable. Green means that the file is in excellent condition and you can get it back no problem.

4. If there are too many files returned to manage or you are looking for a particular file, you can filter the files. Just specify a file type or a filename in the “filename or path” field or drop down the menu to specify a file type. So for example, by typing in “google update”, I was able to find three particular files.

5. Now say I want to want to recover those 3 files? I just need to tick them and click the “recover” button. Recuva will ask me to specify where on the computer they should go and when I have told it, the files will start downloading. In fact, they are put back on the computer so fast that I didn’t even have time to make a screenshot!

That’s basically all there is to it. Just remember to untick those files in Recuva before you close the program because Recuva remembers those files next time and will keep on downloading them over and over again! So untick them once you have recovered them and you’ll be fine.

Should I Buy New Samsung Galaxy Note 7 After Battery Explosion ?

As Samsung has recalled all of its new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 after about 35 reported cases of BATTERY BLASTING globally, Samsung users are in dilemma right now, whether to buy it or not.

After launching new note series i.e. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 in ten different countries (US, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, the UAE & Korea), Samsung is now facing problems due to its faulty batteries. Some buyers reported that the battery exploded and caught fire during and after charging which was the major concern for Samsung. About 35 such cases were reported and Samsung was forced to recall all the phones from different markets. The company has stated that they are recalling their phones just to ensure that Samsung continues to deliver the highest quality products to their consumers. They have further committed that they are working closely with their partners to ensure the replacement experience as convenient and efficient as possible. Koh Dong Jin, the president of Samsung's mobile business said that the customers who had already bought Note 7s will be able to get new Note 7. Samsung has already sold 2.5 million Note 7s and now they are facing problems in finding out which phones were affected among the 2.5 million pieces. According to Samsung it will take about 2 weeks to prepare the replacement devices.

Although the company is being criticized for the faulty battery, Samsung launched Note7 4GB RAM variant in China as the company claims that the batteries in these sets are from different suppliers and are safe. According to Samsung the batteries of Note7 devices comes from different suppliers. The battery that caught fire were from different suppliers and the batteries included in the china handsets are from different suppliers. So it claims that it’s safer to buy Note7 in china. The company is refusing to tell the name of the supplier which causes blast.

For all those users who has already bought the phone, Samsung has said that they can easily claim to exchange their phones or take refund by going to the nearest Samsung stores or by calling at Toll Free No. If you stick with a Samsung device, such as the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge or replacement Note 7, you’ll get a $25 credit or gift card via your carrier as a “gesture of appreciation” from Samsung. The sales has been stopped for now and will be continued soon after the company prepares new replacement sets.

So, I personally think that it’s safe to buy the phones once after the replacement sets are made as the phone is packed with a lot of features and specially its thin tipped spen. But it depends on user to user whether he/she is feeling safe or not from using the phone which has been criticized for battery explosion.
