It’s time for another great Boston Tee Party interview! This morning we’re handing the microphone to the good peeps at Purple & Chrome!

Let’s get into it, sit back… relax…. and get to know Purple & Chrome!

Who are you and what is your brand name?

Hello everyone!  My name is RaShaun Burgess.  I am the creator/owner of Purple & Chrome.

Tell us a bit about your brand:

Purple & Chrome is an apparel brand with a passion for spreading peace, positivity, fun, and love. You know the saying “wear your heart on your sleeve”? Well… we are wearing ours on our back. Purple & Chrome came about as a way for us to express our thoughts, passions, fears and joys. Many people write poetry, some paint pictures, and others sing songs. We… make t-shirts. That excerpt is part of our motto and it really hits the nail on the head as to what we are about. With all the negativity we see going on around us every day, it’s always good to send some positive vibes out into the universe. Just like any other art form/medium, clothing is an art form/medium as well. We use t-shirts as our vehicle to spread a certain consciousness that we all can use more of!

What prompted you to take part in the 1st Annual Boston Tee Party?

When I heard about the Boston Tee Party I thought it would be a great way to get out there, meet people, customers (who I call friends and family), and other people in the indie brand community. I’m very new to this community and I just want to properly introduce myself and my brand to it. It’s exciting!

What are you most looking forward to at this event?

I’m actually really looking forward to meeting the other brands/people in this great indie community! I’ve communicated with some people behind the brands/vendors on twitter/facebook and through email before. I really would like to meet these people face to face and just chop it up with them if I can. I love meeting new people and just seeing what they’re about, what their experiences have been, etc. It’s always novel to me!

Is there any one brand that you’re really looking forward to checking out?

No, I’m not looking forward to check out one brand in particular; although I would love to meet the guys/gals behind Threadbird and you guys at Tee Gazette.  Like I said, I just really want to meet everyone I’ve been speaking to online and just get to know the indie community a whole lot more!  Big thanks to you, Tee Gazette for doing something like this.

I can honestly say we’re definitely looking forward to meeting you, too! This is all very exciting to us here at Tee Gazette and the response we’ve gotten from brands has been overwhelming!

Will you be releasing anything exclusive to this event?

You know what? I know everyone else is probably saying that they are but I’m not sure if I am yet (chuckle). At this very moment of this interview I don’t think I’m releasing anything exclusive for this event. I honestly, don’t know if it will be in the budget to do so. But I can’t read the future so I don’t know what the budget will look like come time. You never know and I never say never so… I guess we’ll all have to stay tuned and see if we are all surprised.

What can we expect from your brand for the rest of 2012?

You can expect some really great things from us for the rest of the year (I know everyone says that right? lol). Our Spring/Summer ’12 line officially dropped on April 30th. Judging by how it goes, we will know more what our Fall/Winter ’12 line will look like. But there definitely will be hoodies, sweatshirts, and beanies coming; possibly cardigans and paper boy hats. We’ll see. That’s the fun of starting/running your own business. You never know what’s going to happen. I guess that’s the scary part of it too. But, I see it as one big adventure! So I’m hoping and/or expecting for the best this year but more importantly I’m working towards the best this year! As it comes you guys will be right along with us for the ride!

Do you have any advice to up and coming t-shirt brands?

This is always a funny question to me because I don’t feel like I’m at the level of where Purple & Chrome wants to be/is going to be so who am I to give advice? But at the same time, I know that we learn every day and there is always knowledge to share. One of the biggest pieces of advice I can give to other up and coming t-shirt brands is to do this for the love of what and why you are doing this. Don’t do it for the hope of money. Yes, we are all in business to hopefully make money but I say that because running your own business is a full time job and then some! You will work more for your own business then you will working for someone else. That’s a fact. It is hard work (if you’re serious)! You will get tired, frustrated, upset, etc. There’s no way around it. But when you do it for the love it doesn’t feel like work to you. It’s a labor of love, its fun; it’s exciting just seeing it grow from an idea in your head to something tangible. People always say this and it really is cliché but you know what? People always say it and its cliché because it’s the absolute truth.

What is one thing you want the world to know about your company?

One thing I want the world to know about my brand is that Purple & Chrome is not a lifestyle brand. I REPEAT, WE ARE NOT A LIFESTYLE BRAND! I know every other brand says that but what does that mean? What really is a lifestyle brand? What really is a lifestyle? Your life style is made up of your surroundings, the people around you, the things you’re into. What determines all of those things? The way you think. The way you feel. Your attitude towards self as a result the world around you. This is why I say Purple & Chrome is a MINDSTYLE brand. It’s more a philosophy about life. It’s my personal philosophy about life. But I’m your average guy. Not average in the mediocre sense but average in the regular person sense. So I know there are a lot of people out there who share some of the same collections of thoughts as I do. That’s why Purple & Chrome is for everyone. So… that is the one thing I would want the world to know about Purple & Chrome.
