This is because the design of iPhone 4 lacks of such human characteristics as warm feeling, comfortably touching, eye catching, not machine like appearance, etc that typical Apple products possess. Therefore, I decided to go to Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro.

This phone is small, easy holding and untypical shape, what's more, it consists of Sony's consistently high quality of camera and display screen.

It is not necessarily to talk more about the software, which is Android. The core is standard but the user interface is customized by Sony. The UI is very suitable for such small as 3 inch large monitor. For example, the four corner menu allows the phone to have more icons but use less space.

This phone is my third Sony's phone. I used Z200 and W810i. The former is known as special shape and the analog clock accessory. The latter is good at camera and music player.

<img src="http://www.mobiledia.com/reviews/sonyericsson/z200/images/side.jpg" width=40%" />

Someone said that Sony was Apple Inc. in Japan but I do not agree. In my opinion, Sony is good at audio video technologies such as display, camera and music player but not good at high technology such as processor, high end display and software application. For example, Sony has failed to promote the products of her own standard such as Betamax, Memory Stick and Reader. On the other hand, the history tells us that Sony's successful products are usually involved with other corporations. Compact Disc, Blue-ray Disc, VAIO, CLIE are successful products that Sony cooperated with other companies.

Moreover, Apple is used to get new technologies into daily life. Her products are full of human consideration. For example, Macintosh is the first personal computer which looks like a typical electronic appliance at home. iMac is the first PC which shows the importance of hardware appearance. On the other hand, Sony's design is innovative and untypical. Her products are trendy and demonstrate the company as the pioneer of the industries. Their directions are different.

I think that Sony should have taken the leader again in the market of smart phones and tablets if she could have acted faster than other companies, especially for the recently most successful Korean firm.

The recent financial results of the corporation do not look satisfied. She does not look as energetic as she was. When Steve Jobs came to Apple again from NeXT Computer, he reviewed all products of then Apple. Finally he threw a lot of inefficient plans and remained a few which could be believed to drive the company grew. It seems the time for Sony to do the same.

SNE: 12 Jan 2007, USD 47.68; 13 Jan 2007, USD 17.13.

It is a common utility of remote controlling.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aO8YR3122JM/Tn3rUFwuA3I/AAAAAAAAAcQ/gnPjOj2HaFk/s320/virtualbox_vnc_twin.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5655935437423641458" />
Screenshot of Virtual Box Guest System (Left) and Host's VNC of the Guest System (Right)

In addition to Remote Controlling, is there any usage else? Since RFB protocol, which VNC uses, is very simple (transfer the pixel data of each position), it should be utilized in any usage of transferring images and even videos.

One of my previous supervisor suggested using VNC to transfer CCTV video from the device computer to the operation center monitor. By the same idea, if the image capturing device's protocol is proprietary, we can leverage VNC to transfer the image from the original device to another device and even capture the signal in a digital way. Image-guided therapy is another example.

RFB protocol is simple and open, but it makes us down by occupying a large amount of bandwidth, although the bandwidth of the Ethernet has grown rapidly recently. How to reduce the bandwidth requirement is the challenge of further promotion of VNC.

After I came back the crowded common room, World Trade Center had gone. And the world had become no longer the same as before.

I visited Manhattan four years later. It started raining when I stepped on the road in the front of Ground Zero, i.e. World Trade Center site. I thought that the rain was the tears of some people who had died. Even until now, I still remember the poem written on the board next to Ground Zero:

The Road to Heaven
------------------
While traveling along
It's never to late
Take the road that leads to love
Not the one to hate
Hate is what took these buildings down
with love is how we'll remember those
no longer around
Take the right road and you will see
how much sweeter life will be
The road may be uphill and
strewn with stones
so get rid of the weight
and lighten the load
AT the summit there is
a beautiful view
all of God's peace
open to you

A police officer
NYPD

There was a cross which was made of steel bars from the ruin. It likely stood tall to tell the world that some people had devoted their lives to work and to play, and fulfilled their duty until the last second of their lives.

Today is the 9/11 Ten-Year Anniversary. The world has changed a lot for ten years. Being a small potato, how can we the rapidly changing world? I was confused until I am reminded by the picture taken in front of Ground Zero.

Work Hard, Play Hard, Who Cares?

And the version 2 is released today. You can download it at the same website: http://sourceforge.net/projects/marksixanalyst/

Source: http://sourceforge.net/projects/marksixanalyst/files/src/marksixanalyst2-web.zip/download

The version 2 does not change too much on basic functions, i.e. Lottery Record Management and Analysis & Prediction. However, the whole architecture is changed at all.

First, the version 1 is a standalone application while the version 2 is a web-based application. I went to the totally different architecture design because of the efficiency of web-based application development. In term of User Interface, you can freely place UI components and define their behaviors in Swing but it is too free, although NetBeans may help you build a UI quickly, you still have to spend a lot of times to move and click your mouse. On the other hand, web-based applications are under web framework, that is HTML output. You can build a UI with well-defined components by plain texts and dynamically generate them by JSP/Servlet. In addition, thanking jQuery, you can build a dynamic web page such as well-defined tables, file import/export by simple scripts. Furthermore, users nowadays open a browser more than other applications. A web-based application can be opened anytime they want without moving the mouse cursors to somewhere far away.

Second, the version 2 is built under Spring Framework. A core of Spring Framework is Inversion of Control (IoC). With IoC, the dependencies of classes are reduced and each class is decoupled with each other. As a result, the classes can work independently to cooperate with others and the design becomes more flexible. For example, the UI A is responsible for showing Content A. If I would like to show the similar content Content B, I do not need to define another class but reuse the UI A by setting its content as Content B to build another UI object for the new task. Another important area applying IoC is Mark Six Analysis Algorithm. I have created an Interface of algorithm and some classes implementing the Interface. I can use spring's descriptor XML file to define each class' behavior and even combine some of them to become a new algorithm without writing any new code.

IoC is the most important improvement of version 2. Users can apply their own algorithms easily within Mark Six Analyst.

Third, the version 1 utilizes JPA and Hibernate to handle Object-Relational Mapping efficiently while the version 2 goes back direct JDBC coding. JPA is very convenient and it is very efficient in handling straightforward database access, e.g. simply list all records. On the other hand, in my case, the algorithm may involves complicated SELECt statements so that JPA may not be easily handled. The performance of JPA contains some overheads while that of direct JDBC coding can be tuned directly in coding. This area does not seem an improvement of new technology but is an improvement of performance.

I wish that the new version can provide a more flexible and easier method to customize Mark Six Analyst so that more people can involve in it to build a more powerful Mark Six Analyst algorithm.

Last but not least, I would like to sincerely thank the following parties which have helped me to develop this application:

Apache Commons / Apache log4j / Apache Taglibs / Apache Tomcat

Ajax Upload

DataTables (table plug-in for jQuery)

Eclipse

Free CSS Templates

Free Icons

Highcharts JS

Jackson JSON Processor

Java

jQuery

jQuery datePicker

overset - jVal

PostgreSQL

SourceForge.net

Spring

StAX

XStream

Testing Environment -

OS: Mac OS X 10.5

Servlet Container: Apache Tomcat 6.0.30

Database: PostgreSQL 8.4

Browser: Firefox 4.0

We finished our walk by just half a day. Although our package was the one with seaview and balcony, only a part of seaview could be seen and the balcony was dirty. What's more, the border of the bathroom mirror was broken. One of the cups, which looked quite elegant was very dirty inside.

What is the problem? In my opinion, the management has not taken the responsibility to maintain high morale of the whole company. When I visited Disney World in 2005, I was very impressed by every staff's passion. For your reminder, Walt Disney World Resort opened in 1971.

It was the third time for me to go sightseeing in Macau, although I have visited Macau many times because of my relatives. By comparing my three times of travel experiences, we can see the change of Macau along the years.

<embed src="http://p.webshots.com/flash/smallslideshow.swf" flashvars="playList=http%3A%2F%2Fcommunity.webshots.com%2Fslideshow%2Fmeta%2F576809020NYYjZm%3Finline%3Dtrue&inlineUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fcommunity.webshots.com%2FinlinePhoto%3FalbumId%3D576809020%26src%3Ds%26referPage%3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Ftravel.webshots.com%2Fslideshow%2F576809020NYYjZm&postRollContent=http%3A%2F%2Fp.webshots.com%2Fflash%2Fws_postroll.swf&shareUrl=http%3A%2F%2Ftravel.webshots.com%2Fslideshow%2F576809020NYYjZm&audio=on&audioVolume=33&autoPlay=false&transitionSpeed=5&startIndex=0&panzoom=on&deployed=true" menu="false" quality="best" width="425" height="384" name="WebshotsSlideshowPlayer"base="http%3A%2F%2Fp.webshots.com%2Fflash%2F" wmode="opaque" allowScriptAccess="always" loop="false" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http%3A%2F%2Fwww.macromedia.com%2Fgo%2Fgetflashplayer">

Macau 20-21 Feb 2010

The first travel was in the Fall of 2005. It was the time just after the Historic Centre of Macau was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Although the monopoly system of gambling was ended in 2002, Macau still remained itself as a silent and simply island with long history.

The second travel was in the Fall of 2006. I saw the rapid change of Macau. Both the traditional and the advanced were fused at the island. We visited hundreds year buildings, ate local foods and entered casinos invested by foreign ventures. Only SANDS and Wynn were many enough to make waves in the gambling industry.

I stayed at Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16 Hotel, which was a five star hotel managed by a french venture. There have been many luxury hotels in Macau. The Venetian Resort is expanding its giant size, even through the pace was temporarily interrupted by Financial Tsunami.

Macau aims at becoming Las Vegas of Asia. The hardware is undoubtedly luxury enough, however, the service requires more improvement. The foreign ventures have brought a new mindset of gambling and traveling, which are not cheating as some local managers think but a fair trade between big earning and high class experience. Their customers are willing to spend gold on one throw but they expect high standard of service. The target is simply - make them happy - but the process is not easy.

The pace of Macau has accelerated and it should be more.

Whoever is crazy about the amazing device. As a result of high demand of iPhone in Hong Kong, Smartone-Vodafone, following Hutchison 3, has become one of resellers of Apple iPhone in HK.

Nevertheless, the new reseller provided a detailed devil to her customers, including those who do not purchase iPhone from her. I found the story by my bad experience.

I was informed that my data usage had exceeded to an extent level last week. I was surprised and because I had not used any 3G service and I turned off Data Roaming setting. I asked the customer service of Smartone-Vodafone to check it in detail but there was no result.

I was informed about the same thing on the next day. I replied that my iPhone setting should avoid from using any cellular network. The technician fortunately explained that Smartone-Vodafone turned my iPhone APN setting on when I updated my iPhone through iTune. In addition, it made the setting hidden so that no one could turn the setting off. In the other words, I was forced to pay the unknown data network fee without any option.

What I could do are to request Smartone-Vodafone to disable the data usage of my phone plan and submitted complaints. After I had complained her for a whole week, she agreed to waive the charge totally.

If you have an iPhone, watch out your phone bill!

Developers share and distribute source codes with each other. SourceForge is one of the well-known platforms.

I have registered my first Open Source project in SourceForge. The project is called Mark Six Analyst at https://sourceforge.net/projects/marksixanalyst/. It is a simple tool to forecast the result of Hong Kong lottery or so-called Mark Six by various statistics methods.

For the success of the project, I would like to thank Java, JavaDB (Apache Derby), Java Swing, Java Persistence API, TopLink, Hibernate Entity Manager, NetBeans and CsvReader. Because of them, developing a software application becomes rapidly quicker and the developed application becomes more stable and much easily maintained. Especially for Java Persistence API or called JPA, developers are less annoyed to handle entity EJBs and Object-Relational Mapping. It is helpful for developing an application with a database of complicated entity relationships.

On the other hand, after running the application, I found that no statistics method did better forecast than just Random. It implies that there is no winning method in gambling. I wish that all gamblers would understand this meaning.

No matter whether you are IT and like playing Mark Six, please access the SF.NET project and share your opinions. Thanks.
