TypeOh! Tuesday #100

noreply@blogger.com (teela c) — Tue, 24 Apr 2012 11:31:00 +0000

Happy ONE HUNDREDTH Tuesday! I can't believe it's been two years of type on every Tuesday. So, as the image this week shows, one hundred thank you's to you for sticking around. This has been a really fun project for me - started as a way of being committed to working on my type skills to now being an inspiration post as I've started my own company and am putting that previous design juice into real-er things :) After my personal site redesign a couple months ago, I started thinking about reinterpreting this blog, too. I'm obviously a different person than when I started, and a different designer now, too. I've been subconsciously working up the courage to let TypeOh Tuesdays go, and I figured what better way than on the the hundredth Tuesday? I'm pretty certain I will always be most passionate about typography in design, so of course this isn't goodbye forever. And this isn't goodbye to me blogging either! With my site redesign came a conversion to wordpress, which has been so seamless and easy and wonderful that I want to officially move away from blogspot, too. The new blog will be different than this blog. It'll be more of a scrapbook of new work, random thoughts, inspiration, music, and design. I really only want to post about things I would want in an actual scrapbook, so I have no idea what that will mean about the frequency of posts, I just know it's something I will keep up with. I hope you'll come with me. Blogging here has been such a wonderful experience; I think wordpress will make it that much better. Thanks again for all of the support! The new blog can be found here, and you can subscribe here.

Happy Love-Is-A-Four-Letter-Word Tuesday! I'm pretty excited to finally listen to the whole album through today (you can listen to a preview here). I'm pretty sure Jason Mraz will always be one of my favorite artists..so to celebrate the release of his newest album, I want to feature the design work for his album cover and its reinterpretations of it for his singles albums!

Happy Tuesday! Hope you all had a great Easter! I've been totally overwhelmed with work lately. I'm spending lots of my 'free' time doodling new ideas for Lettersketch projects, and then working on some new items for Graphic River since it's been a little while and I'm starting to feel guilty. I spent part of this weekend getting a new graphic river item created, which I was surprised to see there really aren't any templates on the river of it..graduation announcements. Here's a little sneak peek..I'll post the full invite once it goes up for sale!

Happy Tuesday! We're getting close to the hundredth Tuesday! It's crazy to think it has almost been a full two years. I've been brainstorming some new Lettersketch products for awhile, and now that everything's sketched out, I'm getting things figured out before the new items go to print :) I'm excited because there will be a good amount of hand lettering on the new items, so I've been practicing some different ideas before I carry everything over to the computer, so here's a little teaser this week.

In other Lettersketch news, since hitting FPO, the sketchbooks have been featured on some design blogs! Check out the features here :) Have a great week!

Happy Tuesday! Hope you all had a great weekend! It was amazing seeing my brother again; we hit up the Atlanta zoo, ate at some cool restaurants, watched a couple of movies, and took a walk with my pup along the Chattahoochee River. Really wish my family members lived closer, but I'll take what I can get :)
I've got a dribbble inspiration post this week.. I got invited as a player a few weeks back, so if you're on, follow me and I'll follow you back :) Click on any image to be brought to the player who shot it.

TypeOh! Tuesday #95

noreply@blogger.com (teela c) — Tue, 20 Mar 2012 11:08:00 +0000

Is it already Tuesday? Time has been flying since starting my new job! I'm feeling a little guilty about not posting very often lately, but with all new things, there's definitely an adjustment period :) I'm really excited for this weekend because my brother and sister in law are driving down from Jersey and visiting me before my brother goes for some Air Force training in Alabama. I can't believe I just saw them last month and am already seeing them again :)

Anyway! I have a pretty awesome type story to share..Lettersketch was featured recently on the popular print design blog, FPO, and shortly afterwards, I received an email from James Edmondson who happens to be the very kick ass designer of some fonts that are all over the place lately..Duke, Lavanderia and Wisdom Script. He had recognized the Lettersketch pouch, where I used Wisdom Script to stamp 'sketchbook'. He wrote how much he loved the sketchbooks and was excited to see Wisdom Script used, and I responded by offering to send him some sketchbooks as a thank you for supplying us all with such great fonts through Lost Type. After he received the books, he sent me this pretty amazing thank you note to let me know they made it to him. Made my whole week, hands down.

Happy Tuesday! I realized I never posted the letterpress poster I recently created! There are a bunch of hand drawn elements in it, as well as some fun western-y typography. This was in collaboration with the Atlanta printer Henry + Co, who you can contact to purchase it, and it'll also be in a We Love Letterpress exhibit in Ohio where it'll be on display from April 20-May 19th. It was actually on display and sold at the BandWagon poster show in Savannah last weekend, too, and got a little love here, in a video recap of the show. View all the close ups and some production shots on my website here. Exciting stuff.

I just had a new item approved on graphic river yesterday - a Stationery company branding kit. I decided to use a font I hadn't played with before, Rex, a free font by fontfabric, so I thought I'd show how it all came out. Grab the other fonts used for free as well, Deming and League Gothic. Happy Tuesday!

I finished my portfolio site redesign at the end of last week! I like feeling like it grows aesthetically with me..I've done a redesign the last two years, so here's #3! (This one might last a little longer, because I'm pretty happy with it). Also converted to wordpress which will make updating sooo much easier. So, from this:

noreply@blogger.com (teela c) — Tue, 28 Feb 2012 12:38:00 +0000

Happy Tuesday! It's an extra special Tuesday, because today is my 26th birthday! I can't believe how much my life has changed since starting this blog. One of my first posts happened on my 24th birthday and I was still working at the first job I had after graduating college. Now, after those two years, I'm preparing to begin my third job since graduation next Monday, I have started a legit business, I've created numerous print templates, started a freeware craft site, and met so many interesting people and learned so much about my industry. I can't wait to see where the next two years take me :)

I watched Say Anything last week on a whim..I can't remember where I saw the famous Cusack boombox-over-head scene recently, but it made me have to see the movie again. In the beginning, after the graduation ceremony, everyone's asking him what he's going to do with his life after high school and he replies, "I'm waiting for a dare-to-be-great situation." I like this minus the 'waiting' part. I bought this letterpress print a few months back that has the Eugene Ware quote: "all glory comes from daring to begin." Now that I think about it, I should have made this type "I'm a dare-to-be-great situation." Dang. Whatever. It's my birthday and it's already done. Have a kick ass February 28th :)

Happy later-than-usual Tuesday! What a crazy past couple of days it has been! Friday I left Atlanta around 7am and made the 14 hour drive to New Jersey where my brother and sister in law live. My brother is in the Air Force and is moving to California in a few months, so it was the last time the whole family would be able to get together before he moved. So, my parents and sisters drove 6 hours from upstate NY and we all met for the weekend. My sisters had no idea I was coming, so the surprise on their faces alone was worth it :) I drove back yesterday, so I'm a little exhausted today, but still wanted to keep with TypeOh! tradition, so today I'm sharing something you might have seen already - it's been making its way around the internet pretty quickly. The students at the Society of Design in PA wanted to invite amazing typographer Jessica Hische to speak...by literally changing their PA license plates as their formal invitation! Pretty rad if you ask me. (She totally said yes) See the full invite details at invitinghische.com!

Happy Tuesday and Happy Valentine's Day! Since Vday does land on a Tuesday, I thought I would use it to showcase some extra special words to me. This lyric is from my second favorite song by Ben Folds. This is my first. The best [first] date I have ever been on was flying kites. I had no idea that's what we were going to do, and when he pulled them out of his trunk, they were the boxy kind we first had to assemble. We tried so hard to make them take off on a non windy day to little avail, while park onlookers had their chuckles. It was awesome. One of the best days I think I've ever had, actually. And this lyric I think is metaphorical to life itself. That many, if not most of the time, we feel like randomly flying kites, landing and taking off, always trying to connect the seemingly nonsensical points of interest. I guess I could keep going with pulling this all apart, so instead I will say have a wonderful Valentine's day! The song these lyrics come from is posted below :)

Happy Tuesday! I thought I would do something a little bit different this week and showcase just some regular handwriting. I love Leah's daily thank you notes; I stumbled across one posted on another blog a few months back and have been reading them ever since. Every little note is a thank you, even for things you couldn't expect to give a positive thought to. I love her outlook, and it reminds me that even in unfortunate or commonly depressing sorts of situations, there is always a bright side worth digging for. Hope you enjoy a little glimpse into her notes..here's her site if you want to peruse further!

Fab Shipments

noreply@blogger.com (teela c) — Mon, 30 Jan 2012 12:27:00 +0000

This happened a couple weekends ago. After my massive sew-a-thon (see paper pic below), I boxed up and shipped out all of the orders received through our Fab sale, so I thought I'd share pictures of all those sketchbooks that art will be being made on. What could make an artist happier than that?! Vehicle for creation distributed nationwide? Mission accomplished. I'm a pretty happy little lady.

Happy Tuesday! Sorry, I've been a bit of a slacker when it comes to this blog lately. I've got some fun posts coming up though, so I hope you'll stick around. I was listening to Did I Fool Ya? by Jason Mraz at work yesterday, and towards the end, the lyric 'Absolutely Definitely Positively' kind of resonated with me a little bit, outside of its context in the song. It made me think about the things that I'm absolutely definitely positively sure about, things I know to be true regardless of anything that could happen to make me think twice about them. It's a pretty interesting thing to think about..and having a limited list makes it a little eye opening. Anyway, before I go off on too much a tangent, the song is posted below, new Mraz album coming soon!

Happy Tuesday! It was a pretty crazy weekend - lots of sketchbook sewing + packing up and sending off, so if you ordered a book during our Fab sale, you can expect it soon! I had the great luck of being introduced to the Avett Brothers this past week, and I am undeniably and completely hooked. The first time I listened to Head Full of Doubt, Road Full of Promises, I caught this line and had to hear it again. Since it stuck, I thought it would be a good motivator to share, since we're still kind of entering 2012. So here it is in digital form, and if you dig this song, you should have a listen to this one! p.s. the vid below rocks my socks

Happy 2nd Tuesday in January! I guess we really have to accept it's 2012 now. I've been thinking a lot about the things I want to accomplish this year, and although my list isn't totally together yet, I feel like it's going to be a big year for me :) It's been a rough road the past four years, so I think I'm due for something good! Anyway, thinking about starting a year all over again reminded me of this song by the weepies. I loveee the weepies, and have been listening to them excessively lately. You should check them out (video of song below). The photo below was taken by my sister on our drive back to Georgia. We had a really incredible sunset in Tennessee, so this is from somewhere there, with type added by me. I can't get enough of this font lately..perfect kerning and bold crisp lines..plus it's free! It's Novecento and it comes in six weights and it's my new year's gift to you. Go get it here :) Will post more travel shots soon!

Happy Tuesday! I have some really exciting news this week! Lettersketch is coming to Fab! Fab is an online flash sale site that features very artsy/designy items from independent artists and rad art shops. Every sale only lasts 72 hours before it's gone for forever, and the prices on items are the lowest they go. You can wait in line for an invite in, or you can use this link (my member referral) and you'll be able to start shopping and checking things out right away :) Whichever way you go - membership is totally free.

I drew a little type promo for the upcoming sale that starts THIS Saturday at 11 am, and I also screenshot the sale preview (which you can click if you're logged in to view more completely). Have a great start to your post-new year week, and happy 2012!

Happy Tuesday! Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! It was mostly the same as every year at my house this year, minus my brother and sister in law who spent it with her parents. They stopped by on their way back to Jersey yesterday morning, and finally, the family felt complete. Guess I lost a little bit of time in all of it, just realized it's Tuesday and I hadn't posted anything! My original plan was to head back early tomorrow morning, i.e. 3-4am-ish, but my parents said there might be some snowy roads in PA and part of my drive down to Binghamton, so I might postpone til early Thursday. My goal is to drive straight through again, so being held up because of snow would not make me very happy. 16 hours is enough travel time to begin with without being held up. Anyway! Since it's the Tuesday before 2012, a little wine type - my favorite kind, to ring in the new year. Happy travels and have a great new year's!

Happy Tuesday from NY! I ended up driving straight through on Saturday and got home a little after 3am; I think I'm still recovering from that :) so amazing to be home with the people I love most, and eat my mom's incredible cooking! Have a wonderful pre-Christmas week!

So, this is happening tomorrow. Or, part of it anyway.

I don't think I've been this excited in all of 2011, even though I'm looking at a 17 hour drive. Probably won't be posting much aside from typeOh!'s until the new year, going to soak in as much family as possible. Hope you all have safe + happy weekends! See you next week from NY!

TypeOh! Tuesday #81

noreply@blogger.com (teela c) — Tue, 13 Dec 2011 12:16:00 +0000

Happy Tuesday! Today is an especially happy Tuesday, because my next Tuesday will be spent at my home in NY with my family! Time could not be going any slower than it is for me now; I haven't seen either of my parents or sisters since last Christmas..it's been a difficult year, to say the least. Anyway, I was listening to The National at work yesterday, and caught this line (from 'Baby, We'll Be Fine'), which seemed fitting with the holidays coming up, and my unending love of argyle patterns. After I threw some digital type together with it, it came off a lot more sarcastic than I originally planned, but I like it better this way, even though I think of it in the opposite. Also love the line, 'all we gotta do is be brave, and be kind,' was torn which one to use..maybe that'll make an appearance in a future Tuesday. Posted the song below if you fancy a listen, loveee the alligator album, major props to my friend, Mark Elkins for introducing me to that one.
