How is Minecraft like business.

I just watched the video above from a teen who is working on his first product. He created a video about a place he created on his server for Minecraft. (For those non-geeky entrepreneurs, it is a game where you can create anything you want, called a ‘sandbox’ type game.)

I thought about it and realized Minecraft is the kind of game an entrepreneur would love. Hear me out, even if you don’t play games like this one. (Honestly, I don’t play games like this myself either.)

Here are some things that I think relates to business about Minecraft:

You start with nothing.

You can create anything.

You can do anything.

There are spiders and zombies to avoid.

Days move fast.

A typical sandbox type game lets you think differently. You can look through the eyes of possibilities. Instead of having a nice area made for you, you create the area you want. And it does not just stop there. There are things called ‘mods’ where you can even make the game do things that it was not originally designed to do. (Trust me I know nothing about these, I have just heard of them.)

The spider and zombies, we find those in business too. The spiders are always trying to trap you and get you distracted from your business. The zombies are telling you what can’t be done trying to suck your brains out so you can’t do anything more than they can do. Just avoid them or end their riegn of terror on your business.

In a game like Minecraft and in business, you get to figure out what you want and then make it happen. You see opportunities and overcome obstacles. If something does not go the way you want, you create something that makes it go the way you want.

I would love to hear what you think. Hit us up on facebook or twitter!

One day I was out driving with a friend. We were going to an electronics store to check out the computers. On the way, we passed by some international stores and restaurants. We had never seen anything like them and wondered what was in them. My friend said, “we should go to those.” I looked over and said, “Sounds like fun.” Then, I turned around and drove to the store.

He looked up at me, “Uh, we are really going to go there?” “Yes,” I said quickly, “Why wouldn’t we go?”

He explained to me that he has mentioned going to that place to other friends and even to family members. They had said they should go, but no one actually went. He was happy and excited to actually get to go and take action on something he wanted to do.

Too many times, even as teens, we think about things we want to do or we talk about things, but we never do them. If you want to have an exciting life, take action on the things you think about. If you and your friends talk about creating a tv show, pull out your video camera and start getting experience. If you and your friends like to write music, start recording it and put it online.

You never know what will happen until you take action. Don’t stop yourself and make excuses, just do your best. You get better when you practice. And don’t start saying what you can not do. You may be able to do it, but you have never tried. Every great invention started with some action. It was probably action that the person did not know how to do at first.

Wouldn’t you like to be there the first time Steven Spielberg pulled out a camera? I bet he did no even know how to focus or use the zoom functions…but look at what he has accomplished.

Go out there today and do something different. Try new things, take action and gain new experiences. Those new experiences could be the one thing that thrusts you forward to success.

If you have ever wanted to win more often and be a success more often, then you will want to pay attention to this article.

Let’s take a moment and look at losers. They are not ready for any challenges, they are not happy with the way things are and they are not willing to do anything about it. They like to blame others and rarely take responsibility. If you want to be a loser, just follow the simple path of doing nothing outstanding.

But that is not who you are! You are reading this article because you want something more. You are willing to take action on what you believe and you are ready to hear what I am about to share with you. It is literally the ‘secret’ behind most every millionaire today. Are you up for the challenge?

The secret sauce to success is pretty simple, but powerful. (I bet you just want me to tell you what it is so you know, right?) It is pretty simple: be excited. When you are enthusiastic about what you do, others take notice and want to help you win. You gain an immediate group of supporters who are right there willing to take on whatever you throw in front of them.

Successful people are not happy with just getting by with the ordinary. They want to be extraordinary and they EXPECT it.

Quick story: I was out with one of our teen entrepreneurs and we were going through one of those car washes they have at the gas station. This one had big rolling things and water canons. Well, this young man looked out the window just staring as the big roller came to a stop outside his window. I told him to roll down the window and touch it. His eyes lit up, he had never thought about actually taking action on it. I told him somehthing that will hopefully stay with him for a long time: “You can sit there and look out the window wondering what things are like, or you can roll down the window and experience life.”

People win because they are always ready to win. If you want to be a winner, then think like a winner, act like a winner, and speak like a winner. Winner are excited about what they do and I bet you are too!

Go make it happen . . . roll down the window and experience life.

Learn this great business principle.

Don’t worry this is not a cookbook for frogs. It is a great business principle found in the words of . . .get this…Mark Twain.

“Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.”

Can you believe Mark Twain said something like that?

Well, let me break it down for you simply: If you do the one thing you dread most about doing in your business FIRST the rest of the day will get better.

If you don’t like making sales phone calls, do it first and get it out of the way. If you don’t like responding to emails, do it first so you can get it out of the way.

Fill in the blank: I dread doing this one thing in my business:____________________. I will do that one thing first thing in the moring and may day will get brighter and brighter.

Many times we procrastinate because we put off things we don’t want to do. This method is a great way to cut that out. If we get those things done first thing in the morning, when we have the most will power, we will be ready to take on our day like a Spartan. . . but that is for another day.

Eat your frog today and make it happen.

PS: I have heard there is even a business book about eating a frog. I would look online if you want to know more about our simple version of this principle.

Learn the power of querencia.

I hope you never get in a fight with a bull, unless you are a matador, then Ole! But, if you do get in a fight with a bull, there is a secret to how to win. It is called a “querencia.”

A querencia is the place where the bull always returns. When the bull gets fightened, he goes there to regroup. When he gets hit, he goes there to regroup. When he is loosing, the bull always goes to the same spot.

Do you see how silly this is? A bull who knows he is on his last leg goes back where the bullfighter will know where he is! It sounds so silly, till we think about our own lives.

When things get tough, we all go to the same place. Our brains try to protect us, so we go where we feel safe. There is nothing wrong with that, if you want to stay the same and never grow.

If something scares you or you are on the verge of success and things are not working like you expected to them, you will react the same way you have always reacted. You may yell, fight, give up or just check out. It is your own personal querencia.

Here is where the real secret of success comes in . . . ready for it?

Don’t do that! Do something different when things scare you.

When you get in those same patterns of things that scare you, face them! We like to pre-think our way to failure. Stop, take a breath and start saying “I can do this, I can succeed, I can overcome, I will be a success. I am a success!”

I just heard a very famous brain doctor who is paid bunches of money to speak. During one of his first speaking jobs, he almost walked out of the studio and went home. He may never have spoken again if he stayed in this pattern. Instead, he faced his fear, stood his ground and is a very successful person today. People love to hear him speak.

What makes you scared? Are you ready to face it or will you just be a bull that keeps getting beat down because he keeps going down the same path with the same results?

I believe you can make it happen!
