Demi Lovato is using her tween fame to address TV’s latest hot-button topic — bullying.
“Real Housewives of New York’s” Kelly Bensimon created a homemade PSA against “systematic bullying” — and the Cartoon Network and CNN are readying a new fall anti-bullying campaign — so it’s no surprise that the once-bullied star of Disney Channel’s hit “Sonny With a Chance” is speaking out about the subject.
“Bullying is a very serious thing to me, I’ve witnessed it first hand — I was bullied myself when I was 12,” says Lovato, now 17, referring to how classmates picked on her because she was a working actress. Things got so bad, she turned to home schooling.
Lovato, who’s hooked up with teensagainstbullying.org, says that her 8-year-old little sister Madison De La Garza, who stars on “Desperate Housewives,” has helped inspire her passion for the subject.
“She’s getting to that age where she could start becoming insecure,” Lovato says. “I want to be able to help other girls around her age come into their own with a strong confidence in their skin, their size, who they are and everything about themselves.”
Many teen stars bristle at the notion of having role model status thrust upon them, but Lovato says she’s fine with it.
“Nobody wants pressure and wants to be under a magnifier glass, but there are ways to be role models without claiming to be perfect,” she says.
“I’m learning and dealing with experiences that all teenagers go through. The way I want to be a role model is not by not making mistakes . . . but by helping people overcome things from the obstacles that I’ve overcome.
“That’s how I want to use my voice and that’s how I want to be a role model.”

Disney has found its “Prom” dates.
The Mouse House has tapped nine unknowns to headline the cast of its high school comedy about a group of teens prepping for the big dance.
They are: Thomas McDonell, Aimee Teegarden, Danielle Campbell, Nolan Sotillo, Yin Chang , Jared Kusnitz, Nicholas Braun, Ben Esler, Kylie Bunbury and DeVaughn Nixon.
Teegarden had previously appeared in “Friday Night Lights,” while Chang, Braun, Kusnitz and Esler can credit “Gossip Girl,” “10 Things I Hate About You,” “Surviving Suburbia,” and “The Pacific,” respectively.
The tone of “Prom” is said to be similar to the types of teen comedies helmed by John Hughes or Cameron Crowe, like “Sixteen Candles.”
Disney’s plans for “Prom” came to light earlier this year when it recruited Joe Nussbaum to helm the project, based on a script by Katie Wech, (Daily Variety, Feb. 17).
Ted Griffin and Justin Springer will produce.
Early plans had “Prom” being produced for around $5 to $10 million and featuring fresh faces. The studio had been encouraged by “High School Musical’s” ability to launch new stars like Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and Corbin Bleu, virtual unknowns at the time, but who hellped launch a major franchise for Disney Channel and later the studio. A fourth “High School Musical” is in the works at Disney Channel.

Taylor Surprises Fans in Pittsburgh Movie Theater!

Auditorium 17 at the AMC-Loews at The Waterfront had no fancy VIP seats or IMAX screen but it had one thing the other theaters did not on Saturday night: dreamboat actor Taylor Lautner.
His famous abs were hidden under a white T-shirt, paired with jeans, but he produced shrieks of delight nevertheless among roughly 170 moviegoers waiting for the 8 p.m. showing of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.”
The film’s cast has been making surprise appearances around the country as a way to thank moviegoers and Mr. Lautner showed up in Pittsburgh, where he is making a film called “Abduction.”
If the fans didn’t know Mr. Lautner was coming — one cited “hearsay,” as if she were a courtroom attorney — they suspected something was up last night once youthful security guards in suits marched in and took positions near the screen on the floor and along the hallway leading into the theater.
Patrons whispered and tapped out text messages, saying they’d heard a surprise might be in store. Then AMC-Loews employee Patrick Fisher introduced Mr. Lautner, called out “Who’s ready?” and asked patrons to remain in their seats.
Mr. Lautner bounded to the front of the auditorium as cell phone cameras captured the moment for all eternity … or Facebook. Fans screamed, whooped and declared their love for the 18-year-old actor who plays werewolf Jacob Black in the wildly popular vampire franchise.
“How are you guys?” he asked, his remarks amplified by a microphone. Smiling and joking with the “awesome” audience, he laughed when someone urged him to “take your shirt off.”
Spotting three women in “Twilight”-themed shirts at the end of the third row of seats, he told them “I love the shirts,” then corrected himself by saying, “I like the one at the end” — a reference to its “Jacob’s Army” proclamation.
The wearer of that garment, Kara Bussard, of Moon, was celebrating her upcoming 16th birthday with her sister, Erin Dargo, 29, of Brentwood. They’d initially purchased tickets for the 10 p.m. screening, Kara said, but went back to buy seats for the earlier show after hearing a rumor about Mr. Lautner’s appearance from a worker at the Aeropostale store in the Waterfront.
When Ms. Dargo yelled, “It’s her birthday” and pointed to her sister, Mr. Lautner wished Kara a happy birthday.
“I’m so excited I can’t think straight,” Kara gushed later. “I could cry.”
Mr. Lautner, who has inspired a near cult-like following, begins filming this week on his new film. He is playing a teen who finds his own baby pictures on a missing persons website.

Jonas Brothers announced today an all-new world tour schedule that now includes additional shows in both Latin America and Europe as well as second shows in major U.S. markets. The tour, spanning three continents, will feature special guest and Hollywood Records label mate, Demi Lovato and will combine spectacular production with unrivaled performances of both artists’ biggest hits. The tour will also feature music from the Disney Channel Original Movie, “Camp Rock,” and its highly anticipated sequel as well as the Disney Channel series, JONAS L.A. Produced by Live Nation and sponsored by OfficeMax, the Jonas Brothers Live In Concert tour will now launch in Chicago, IL on August 7 at First Midwest Amphitheatre.

Recent changes in the Jonas Brothers schedule and the addition of several international tour markets have shifted the previously announced routing for 2010. The Live In Concert tour will now kick off two weeks later in August and includes second shows in several North American cities including Holmdel, NJ, Jones Beach, NY, Boston, MA and Toronto, ON. Some previously announced North American Live In Concert tour shows are no longer on the 2010 routing, however the Jonas Brothers will look to return to these markets as soon as possible.

On an international level, the tour also now includes several new Latin American dates including shows in Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Brazil. The tour will also be extended through major markets in the UK and Europe with shows soon to be announced in France, Spain and Italy. merican teen sensation Demi Lovato enjoyed a family holiday to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico this week while on a break from filming her hit show on the Disney channel Sonny With A Chance.
Wearing a turquoise bikini, Disney’s rising star looked beautiful as she relaxed on the beach with her family and played in the surf on a hired jet ski.
Her recent break up from Jonas brother, Joe, seemed to be the last thing on her mind. The pair dated for several months earlier this year.
The starlet, who is best friends with Miley Cyrus and even dated her older brother Trace, also drew some attention from a group of young male admirers who she willingly posed for pictures with.
Whilst showing off her curvy bikini body she appeared to have a new tattoo of some unknown writing on her right ribcage but the star took to Twitter in the past to refute claims she would have got a tattoo.
She wrote, ‘Hahahaha some people are so stupid. So what? I like to draw on myself. Sue me. Hahaha I’m 16 I’m not getting a tattoo anytime soon.’
Lovato is a Texas born singer and actress who started her acting career at age 7 in ‘Barney and Friends’ and rose to stardom in the Disney TV film ‘Camp Rock.’ The movie generated 8.9 million viewers.
She has also had huge success as a singer, releasing her debut album Don’t Forget in September 2008.
It went straight to the number two spot on the American charts. Her follow up album, ‘Here we go again,’ went straight in at the top spot in July 2009.

The movie here has been great, having so much fun shooting this and making some wonderful new friends while doing it. Ashley Tisdale Heading To College?

OKMagazine: When Ashley Tisdale suits up to play a college cheerleading captain in Hellcats on the CW this fall, she’ll be living the life she intended – at least on TV. (Psst! She's also days away from filming Sharpay's High School Musical spinoff.)
“Education’s big in my family, and I went to regular school my whole life in Valencia,” she tells me during the CW Upfront held Thursday in NYC. “At the time when I had just gotten out of high school, I took a year off of school, and I said ‘dad, this is all I want to do -- acting.’ I took as many acting classes as I could because he was like ‘I don’t want you waiting around. It’s really big that you’re not doing this.’”
She even chose a major. “I was going to go for writing,” she confesses. “But once I booked The Suite Life of Zach and Cody, with Disney, you really have no time.”
She wouldn’t change a thing. “This is what I want to do – this is what I love to do with my life. I’m not the type of person to sit in class. I get to do that on the show, so that’s perfect.”
After three High School Musicals, she couldn’t be happier to graduate to a college show. (Bonus: Her co-star is longtime pal Aly Michalka, of Aly & AJ Michalka fame!) “I’m 25 years old now, so I’ve been in high school for a long time,” Ashley laughs. But she hasn’t completely abandoned the Disney franchise that made her a household name.
“I’m doing a Sharpay movie in four days in Toronto, but it’s not really Sharpay,” Ashley says. “She’s still Sharpay, but she’s now the lead of the movie. You used to love to hate her, but now you have to fall in love with her. You get to see why she is the way she is, you see her in a different light. She’s not in college, but she’s supposed to be. She’s in New York City fulfilling her dreams on Broadway.”

Some children in eastern Kentucky got quite a surprise at school Thursday.
Pop singer Miley Cyrus got a very warm welcome at Hazard Independent School in Perry County.
She was there as part of the Blessings In Backpacks program, which she sponsors.
The program provides food for more than 400 children in the Hazard school district, to bring home for the weekend.
“It’s one thing to see it on paper, it’s another thing to come in and see the thanks from the students that are receiving this that really need the help,” Sherry Cornett of Hazard Independent Schools said.
School officials say Cyrus will put more money into the program next year, to help a total of 600 children.
