Justin Bieber to the rescue on lung transplant

There are many people, usually those over 30, who find crooner Justin Bieber a little too goody two-shoes for their taste. Helen Campbell, however, at 20, is the right age to admire Bieber and hope he’ll help her find an organ donor for the lung transplant she needs.

She asked friends to help raise awareness about organ and tissue donation and wanted to elicit Bieber’s support for her effort to sign people to donation registries. Through a tweet, Bieber magically appeared to aid Campbell’s cause, assuring older cynics he isn’t just a pretty face.

As soon as Bieber heard of Campbell’s dilemma he tweeted: “@alungstory I got the word . . . You have amazing strength. I got u. #BeAnOrganDonor.” His tweet reached his 16.5 million followers. Organizers at the Trillium Gift of Life Network, the provincial agency coordinating organ and tissue transplants, say that after Bieber tweeted in Campbell’s cause, their website was swamped with responses.

“We were just amazed,” said Ronnie Gavsie, CEO of Trillium. Since Thursday, after Bieber raised his voice in support of Campbell, Trillium received 1,200 registrations. Normally it gets 50 a day.

Campbell has idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and is able to use only 24 per cent of her lung capacity. Bieber’s support may help not only her but others who need organ transplants. As he sings in “Pray”: “I pray for all the ones not breathing, I pray for all the souls I need, I pray, can you give ’em one today?”

Bieber is not one to mumble a few catchy lyrics with the sole intent to make girls faint. He’s a standup guy, ready to use his fame for others. Bravo Bieber.

Justin Bieber has it all: pop stardom, a burgeoning movie career, a loving family and a beautiful girlfriend. But there’s one thing Bieber will never be able to do, and it breaks his heart. What’s got our boy down?

Bieber is devastated that he will never be able to share a stage with Michael Jackson. Following his performance at Jackson’s Hand & Footprint Ceremony, Bieber talked to Access Hollywood about Jackson’s influence on him and his music.

“He was an inspiration not only to me, but to my family and everyone around me,” Bieber said. “He was more than that. He gave me hope. He was an icon. Every time that I go out onstage, every time that I go out and perform, I’m trying to be the best. And that’s what he always did. There’s never gonna be another Michael Jackson, as long as anyone lives.”

When the inevitable comparisons between Bieber and Jackson came up, Bieber didn’t liken himself to the icon — he just voiced more wistful admiration for Jackson. “You know what? I wish I would have been able to meet him,” Bieber said. “It was really sad, you know? As soon as I released my first single was the week he passed, so it was really unfortunate … it’s just really sad. That was one person I just really wanted to meet.”

Selena Gomez Sends Love to Child With Cancer

Selena Gomez is nothing if not kindhearted and generous. She recently sent her love to a little girl who is battling cancer. The way the 5-year-old caught the attention of Justin Bieber's girlfriend is heartbreaking.

According to a report from Hollywood Life, little Sophia Pasquarella is fighting leukemia. An avid fan of the former Wizards of Waverly Place star, she even loves singing Selena's songs. In fact, she was recently recorded singing Who Says--and a family member posted the video on Twitter.

The video of Sophia's song made its way to Selena via Twitter. The singer was all too happy to send her a personal reply.

"Sophia you're adorable," Selena Gomez wrote.

Known for her compassion, it's common for Selena to reach out to her young fans--especially those battling life threatening diseases like Sophia. Now it's reported that Sophia's next goal is to actually meet Selena Gomez in person.

It certainly wouldn't be the first time that Selena went out of her way to make a sick fan's dream come true. She recently met with a young girl who suffers from progeria--a disease that makes the body age in rapid succession. Sufferers actually die of 'old age' while they're still very young.

So you think Selena Gomez will make little Sophia Pasquarella's dream come true? It's uncertain if the little girl is battling terminal cancer or if her prognosis is a good one. But that wouldn't matter at all to Selena.

It likely wouldn't surprise most of Selena's fans to learn in the very near future that she has somehow arranged to meet with little Sophia.

Selena Gomez New Cosmo Cover Too Sexually Explicit?

Former Disney star Selena Gomez covers the new issue of Cosmopolitan, which targets a young, hip crowd. But is the content too sexually explicit for her fans? Some parents groups say yes.

Selena, 19, covers the March issue of Cosmopolitan , but it’s not her first Cosmo cover. She appeared on the Russian edition of the magazine last October. The U.S. publication released outtakes from the latest shoot earlier this month. But none of those made the issue.

The magazine has come under criticism for its sexually explicit sex advice. Some critics say it encourages casual sex. Selena’s cover includes such headlines as “50 Sex Tips” and “Your Orgasm Guaranteed,” with the subhead: “The New Tricks Experts Swear By.

Some parents groups say the magazines are read by young teens, who are introduced through them to causal sex. Some articles have even detailed how to have anal sex. At the very least, critics say the magazine “glamorizes promiscuity.”

Girls as young as nine are regular readers of the glossy publications and often take them to school, according to one group. Using celebrities on covers with a large teen following like Gomez, encourages 12- to 14-year-olds to pick up the magazine.

The magazines say they are pitched to older girls and young professional women, not young teens.

According to a study by the American Academy of Pediatrics, “exposure to sexual content in music, movies, television and magazines accelerates adolescent sexual activity and increases their risk of engaging in early sexual intercourse.”

Gomez is currently on tour in South and Central America. She promised before the tour started that she would be little edgier, and she hasn’t failed to deliver.

Growing up in the spotlight typically leads to anything but a mild lifestyle, and Miley Cyrus is getting some serious flack for her recent phallic birthday cake photos.

Last weekend, pictures of the not-shy “Party in the USA” singer licking and posing with boyfriend Liam Hemsworth's penis birthday cake emerged, and since then Ms Cyrus is hearing about it.

A conservative group is pointing their fingers at Cyrus calling her behavior “crude” and “disgusting,” saying it “exemplifies sleaze” in Hollywood.

On Thursday (January 26), the Culture and Media Institute (CMI) issued an article called “Hollywood Promoting Women Behaving Badly,” in which it suggests that the onetime innocent Disney star “has become the epitome of the anti-role model for young girls.”

We all know Demi Lovato decided to take a Twitter break. Some are speculating that the actress and singer is actually back in rehab. Her PR team has denied this and seems to be busy trying to prove she’s doing just fine.

In fact, yesterday Demi was “supposedly” back on Twitter for a chat with Seventeen magazine and her fans. Some think it actually wasn’t Demi, but rather her PR team answering the questions instead.

The 17-year-old musician is off to France for the NRJ Awards.

Earlier this week, Justin was spotted in the lab with Cody Simpson, where there he got the scoop on the Make Believe clothing line (thanks to photographer Steven Taylor).

Miley Cyrus Blasted By Conservative Group For 'Disgusting' And 'Sleazy Behavior'

A right-wing watchdog group is not impressed with singer, actress and former Disney star Miley Cyrus' recent behavior.

The Culture and Media Institute, which aims to "preserve and help restore America's culture, character, traditional values, and morals against the assault of the liberal media elite," is calling out the 19-year-old star for photos obtained by TMZ that showed Cyrus posing suggestively with a penis-shaped cake at her boyfriend Liam Hemsworth's birthday party.

The group is calling Miley's behavior "disgusting" and says she's "become the epitome of the anti-role model for young girls." It's not the first time the group has criticized Miley -- in 2010 they slammed her video for "Can't Be Tamed" and dubbed her responsible for "Miley Cyrus Effect," which causes "young girls to act like trashy adults."

But Cyrus is just one part of the problem according to CMI, which is also blasting Hollywood in general -- claiming it's promoting bad and sleazy behavior in women, singling out Kirsten Dunst and Lizzy Caplan's new film "Bachelorette," about sex-filled pre-wedding weekend. The film has garnered ton of buzz at the Sundance Film Festival, for its female centric raunchy humor and labelled as the next "Bridesmaids."

While the film's stars were excited to embrace the trend that finally shows women can be just as raunchy as men, CMI is baffled as to why actresses like Caplan would "want to take on roles making women look like bimbos," and notes an uptick in what they see as "rampant sexual behavior" in films like "No Strings Attached" and "Hall Pass."

The group goes so far as to blame the divorce and remarriage rates which are "rampant within Hollywood," on the "carefree attitudes" on sex it portrays in its movies.

It's true that parents of Cyrus' younger fans likely don't appreciate the references to marijuana or the popstar posing with phallic-shaped baked goods, but despite these "scandals" the singer has actually been praised for being a good role model.

In fact, Hollywood Life's readers voted Cyrus 2011's Role Model of the Year, and MTV columnist Sam Lansky argued that "Miley is a much better role model than we tend to give her credit for," looking to the important things the starlet has put her voice and influence behind.

In addition to speaking out about animal welfare and body image issues, in recent years Cyrus has become a strong proponent for gay-rights, posing for NOH8 campaign, and caused a stir when she called out Urban Outfitters CEO Richard Hayne for donating thousands of dollars to Republican politician Rick Santorum, who openly opposes gay marriage.

Reports of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez dating continue to flood the net quite a bit, with a belief that their secret romance details are being "leaked." One magazine plans to reveal who has been "blabbing about Jelena's love secrets" in a new issue. Could it be someone close to them, or one of the young celebs doing all the leaking themselves?

"Jelena" as they've been labeled were considered a bit of a secret couple for some time until their dating became much more public. Now over the past months, there's been a fascination with what these two are up to at every moment of the day. Tiger Beat magazine was curious who was leaking all the details of their dating out though, if that was in fact a question. Some of the Selena and Bieber secrets that have been spilled they cite are the Staples center date, and their romantic getaways. Apparently, the Tiger Beat magazine feels someone in particular is "leaking" these secrets out. While that may be true, isn't it more the work of the pesky paparazzi and media hounds?

Nonetheless, the March issue of the magazine is currently on sale claiming it knows the truth behind all of this. It has a front page picture of headshots of young Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. Next to Selena is the story headline "Who's spilling Selena's confidential love secrets?" Next to JB is "Justin wears Girls' jeans and other funny facts he doesn't want you to know." Isn't it great that the same issue reveals who is leaking private love secrets will also give away secrets Justin doesn't want people to know?

So, is anyone really surprised that celeb details are constantly known and published online within minutes? These days it seems commonplace thanks to Twitter, cell phone cameras, TMZ, YouTube, and other means of social media or technology. However, the idea here is to get people wondering if there's in fact some source letting out all of Justin and Selena's private romance details. It doesn't really seem like much of a secret in the first place though that Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez dating details are quickly known about, does it?

NICK JONAS GETS TIMES SQUARE BILLBOARD: THIS WEEK’S BEST TWEETS

Nick Jonas is doing big things this week. Real big things! Not only did he start his Broadway stint in the musical, ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,’ but he also had his face plastered on a ginormous billboard in New York City’s Times Square. His brother, Joe Jonas, was showing support for his baby brother by putting a bowties on his English bulldogs. (Remember, putting bow ties on animals and small children is always funny and cute.)

Nicki Minaj also had big news this week as her song, ‘Turn Me On,’ with David Guetta was sitting a-top the U.S. iTunes charts.

Elsewhere on Twitter, there was a rap star rendezvous involving Odd Future, Lupe Fiasco and Kanye West, not to mention, Adam Lambert confirmed his video for ‘Better Than I Know Myself,’ is done and coming to a TV or computer screen near you.

Justin Bieber's Week-Ending French Flight

Bringing an end to another eventful week with a long overseas flight, Justin Bieber was spotted readying for departure from Los Angeles International Airport on Friday (January 27).

The 17-year-old Canadian sensation sported a Steelers ballcap, jean jacket and grey sweats as he and a travel companion worked through the International terminal to board the outbound aircraft.

As for his destination, Bieber is bound for the City of Lights, as he clued everyone in via Twitter by writing, "Anyone wanna fly to France?"

The travels come a day after Justin performed "Rockin' Robin" at Grauman's Chinese Theatre during a hand and footprint ceremony in honor of late pop superstar Michael Jackson.

With the King of Pop's entire family on-hand for the festivities, the "Baby" singer tweeted to MJ's daughter Paris after the spectacle, "@ParisJackson thanks for having me today and the things you said. your dad will always be my mentor. his career is all i study. #THEGREATEST"

By now, we all know Taylor Swift has dated a medley of boys and made a buck or two singing about them, but one in particular seems to have stumped her -- Jake Gyllenhaal. Swift openly talked about love and dating in the February issue of Vogue, admitting that her next album was going to be about an "earth-shattering, not recent, but absolute crash-and-burn heartbreak," leaving us to wonder whose rude departure she plotted to next crystalize in country croon.

Looks like we may now have our answer: Sources for US Weekly are pointing fingers at 31-year-old Gyllenhaal, who dumped 22-year-old Swift after just three months last year. "She's haunted by that relationship," the source said. "[He] totally screwed with her mind."

Greyson Chance returns to Oklahoma to play cancer benefit Saturday

In another life, Greyson Chance might have spent a recent Tuesday afternoon riding through the suburban streets of Edmond rather than the jammed urban roadways of Los Angeles.

Although the past two years have taken the 14-year-old singer/songwriter/pianist down a different path, Chance is maintaining his connections to his hometown and home state.

For the second straight year, the rising music star will partner this weekend with Edmond Santa Fe High School, along with local radio station KJ-103, to play a local benefit show.

He could hardly turn down the invitation, considering it came from one Alexa Chance.

“The thing is, my sister goes to Santa Fe High School and is a part of the Student Council. You know, we did an event for them last year, and it went so well that they’ve offered an invitation for me to come back,” he said in a phone interview last Tuesday while stuck in L.A. traffic en route to the studio.

“This is for her and for the cancer research, and we’re just gonna raise a lot of money. It’s gonna be really good and we hope we can save some lives with this concert.”

Chance will perform Saturday night at the Coca Cola Bricktown Events Center, with all proceeds of the all-ages show going to the Peggy & Charles Stephenson Oklahoma Cancer Center at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

The show, which also will feature Edmond-based pop rockers At Long Last and Oklahoma City jazz-pop musician Denver Duncan with local rapper Jabee, will serve as a precursor to Santa Fe’s Double Wolf Dare Week annual charity fundraiser. Chance helped raise $40,000 last year by performing two concerts at the school during Double Wolf Dare, which earned a total of $198,000 for local charities.

“It’s been an amazing blessing to be able to put on a show, that’s what I love to do, and to be able to give all that money to cancer research. … It’s super important to me,” he said. “And I get to really show everybody in Oklahoma what I’ve been doing the past two years and get to show my friends. So it’s fun to be able to get onstage and perform for my hometown.”

The past couple of years have been packed with amazing blessings for Chance, whom Billboard in 2011 dubbed “the thinking man’s Justin Bieber.” The Edmond adolescent became an overnight Internet sensation back in spring 2010 when a YouTube video of his piano-and-voice cover of Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” went viral. He soon became the first artist signed to Ellen DeGeneres’ boutique label eleveneleven. The talk-show host served as executive producer of his debut album, “Hold on ‘Til the Night,” which cracked the Top 40 in its first week of release last August.

“She’s been so very involved and is always there when we need her. She’s guided me through this whole thing and has been a very good mentor and a very good friend,” he said.

“I remember the first time I met her, she told me never to change. And I really took that to heart.”

That creed is echoed in his latest single, “Hold on ‘Til the Night,” which happens to be one of the six songs he wrote or co-wrote on his debut album.

“When I was writing it, that’s when Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ and Katy Perry’s ‘Firework,’ and all these different records they were just such feel-good records. And I wanted to make something that was a little bit more real that fit my style, and it really worked out well. I wrote that for a listener, not really for me,” he said. “I just wrote it for everybody who was gonna listen to it. I just wanted to make something that was going to make them feel strong and courageous.”

In between writing, recording and touring for his debut album, Chance last year performed at the White House Easter Egg Roll, played during Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin’s inaugural festivities and made his first foray into acting. So far, the former Edmond Cheyenne Middle School student has appeared on two episodes of the Fox sitcom “Raising Hope,” playing a younger version of the single-dad protagonist, coincidentally named Jimmy Chance (Lucas Neff).

“It is so much fun. I always love going up there. We have such a blast. Everybody has just treated me with such kindness and respect. All the actors on the show, the crew, the production team, everybody has been just been so generous and just very warm, so I kind of feel like I have family there now,” Chance said.

“I’m very excited to say that I’m going to be making a trip back to the ‘Raising Hope’ set very, very soon. … You’re gonna see me at the end of this season; that’ll be a little hint.”

He may be growing up before our eyes, but Chance maintains a boyish enthusiasm for harboring secrets. For instance, he won’t specify what had him heading back into the studio on that recent Tuesday, only that he is working on a lot of new music but refers to keep the details “a big surprise.”

“Mysteries, mysteries,” he said with a laugh. “I like keeping secrets … I’m very excited about it, so I’ve just been working, working, working. You’ll see it pretty soon.”

As if his baby blues didn’t already put Liam Hemsworth in the running for Best Boyfriend on the Planet, this story sure does. The Aussie actor consoled girlfriend Miley Cyrus, who was humiliated when the world saw photos of her posing provocatively with a penis-shaped cake.

Cyrus came under fire from fans, the media and conservative groups when the photos hit the Web. An underage Cyrus was pictured sipping cocktails and goofing around with Hemsworth’s phallic shaped birthday cake.

A Cyrus pal told Hollywood Life, “She was extremely embarrassed when the penis cake photos were released. She was having a fit that was only settled by Liam, who calmed her down and made her realize the funny side of the situation.” C’mon, admit it — you probably giggled at the pictures, too.

How did he do it? “He has started teasing Miley about it in a loving way and has actually made her laugh about the ridiculousness of the pictures,” the source continued.

We’re glad Hemsworth and Cyrus have a sense of humor about the situation. Cyrus wasn’t the only girl to ever regret photos taken while she’s silly at a party. While most people only have to worry about getting tagged with red cups on Facebook, Cyrus has to worry about being plastered all over the Internet. Let’s all have a chuckle about this and move on. After all, the person who should be the most embarrassed is actually Hemsworth. Why would his friends order him a cake like that?!

Justin Bieber is really bummed he never got the chance to meet Michael Jackson. Justin has always claimed Michael was one of his biggest influences and has emulated his moves and style on numerous occasions. The two singers have a lot in common and Michael could have helped steer Justin's career in the right direction. Not that Justin's career is suffering, but it can only get better.

After the hand print ceremony, Justin took a few minutes to chat with Billy Bush of Access Hollywood. Justin looked a little depressed during the interview. He told Billy, "I wish I would have been able to meet him." There are millions of people who would have loved to have the chance to meet Michael, but Justin's reasons were most likely a little different.

Justin would have been able to pick Michael's brain a bit. Can you imagine the magic Justin and Michael would have been able to create? Justin says, "It's just really sad." The Canadian singer's first single came out the same week Michael passed away. As Justin puts it, "It was really unfortunate."

Michael may not be here in person, but his spirit lives on in Justin and other performers. Justin explains Michael's impact on his life and career, "He gave me hope." The Biebs is inspired to be the best he can be and that is something he learned from Michael. The King of Pop was a perfectionist and never settled for good enough. Justin is hoping to imitate that same perfectionism every time he walks out on stage.

Although the 17-year-old is regularly compared to MJ, he knows he can never compete with the legend. He is very matter-of-fact and says, "There's never gonna be another Michael Jackson, as long as anyone lives." It is good to know Justin's success has not gone to his head and he realizes that no matter the comparisons, Michael Jackson achieved an entirely different level of fame.

The country star and actor were spotted having dinner together recently in L.A., sparking rumors of a budding romance. But since the release of her super-successful album, 'Speak Now,' Taylor's love life has been under the microscope more than ever.

Miley Cyrus may have been voted a role model for young people in a December 2011 poll, but she's not impressing the people from the Culture and Media Institute in the least. In fact, they recently dissed the singer and actress for her lewd behavior.

According to a report from RadarOnline, it's the example she is showing young people that concerns the Culture and Media Institute. They fear her example isn't a good one, but it's going to be perceived as such by the tweens and teens who idolize her.

Dan Gainor represents the Culture and Media Institute, and he is concerned that Hollywood is encouraging Miley and other young entertainers to sell sleaze.

"Miley Cyrus, who made her career as the family friendly Hannah Montana, has grown into the latest example of how Hollywood warps young actresses into selling sleaze," he says. "She is following a parade of former Disney stars--such as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Lindsay Lohan--that the entertainment industry has manipulated into role models promoting sex to their young fans."

Dan Gainor makes a very valid point, doesn't he? The average age of the young girls who loved Miley Cyrus in Hannah Montana was about 9. Now--just over a year after the Disney show ended, Miley is scantily clad more often than not, she touts the merits of smoking pot and she was even photographed in a very compromising position with her boyfriend Liam Hemsworth's birthday cake depicting male anatomy. Are these the things people want their 9- and 10-year-old daughters viewing?

Sadly, people like Miley Cyrus don't seem to care.

"The actresses know that the more sexualized they act, the more Hollywood will reward them. And no one, not the industry and not the pop-tarts themselves, cares that they are pushing sex to an underage audience," Gainor says.

Can the Culture and Media Institute do anything to prohibit such behavior? They're trying, but they're meeting with little to no success. It's up to parents to constantly monitor what their children are watching, listening to and looking at on the internet. And with Miley Cyrus's behavior at an all time low, they'll no doubt want to make sure she's not among the celebrities their kids are emulating.

The three actresses play friends who rob a bank to help pay for their spring-break vacation. Gomez takes on the part of Faith.

"She's the little more tamed down character but also still gets a little crazy here and there," she told me at her recent UNICEF benefit at the House of Blues in West Hollywood. "She goes on spring break with her girlfriends and they end up getting into a whole mess of things. They're partying and drinking. We end up in jail."

Gomez said a part of her plan is to take a break from music to focus on her acting career. "I'm nervous," she said. "It's a little edgy, but it's fun. I fought for that role. I flew to Nashville and told him I want be a part of it."

His other nominations are Male Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year for Hemingway's Whiskey, as both artist and producer, double nominations for Single Record of the Year and Vocal Event of the Year as both artist and producer for "You And Tequila" with Grace Potter. Chesney is also nominated for Song of the Year for "You And Tequila" with Grace Potter.

Jason Aldean is nominated for six awards, including his second consecutive nods for Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year.
