TRM would like to extend a big thank you to Storer Transportation and Senator Cannella. Without your support, last weekend’s training run would not have been such a huge success.

Thanks to having a bus to transport teens from Modesto up to Knights Ferry, over 50 runners got to experience hill training. That hard workout will pay off when the teens run the Modesto Marathon next month.

The BBQ after the run was a big hit with the kids as they needed to replace a lot of calories that were burned climbing Cemetery Hill.

To show his support, Senator Cannella paid us a visit this past Saturday. He got an opportunity to talk with some of the teens and program mentors.

Thanks to the Senator, we will have a bus to transport the teens to Knights Ferry this coming Saturday. Without that transportation, many of the teens would have missed this crucial training run.

With Senator Cannella’s support, the future of Teens Run Modesto is sure to be bright.

The relay consists of 3-person teams running 2 miles each.

We were proud to have several teams representing Teens Run Modesto at this event.

An over 2500 miles (4100 kilometers) journey to raise awareness about violence in our homes, in our streets, in our countries titled Running Home, A Journey to End Violence. Norma Bastidas plans on running  50 miles a day for about 51 days.

In 2009 Norma Bastidas became the fastest female in history to run seven of the planet’s most unforgiving environments on seven separate continents in seven months. Norma run through the thick jungles of Brazil and the driest deserts in the world including Antarctica all in support of the blind and visually impaired. She is also currently climbing the highest peak on each continent with 4 peaks remaining.

Her efforts have garnered the attention of Oprah Winfrey. Bastidas was featured in an Oprah Winfrey  Network (OWN) documentary hosted by actress Julia Roberts called “Extraordinary Moms,” alongside U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and award-winning journalist Christiane Amanpour.

On March 14, 2012 Norma will be in Modesto in preparation for her running of the Modesto Marathon.  During her stay in Modesto, .Norma will be a special guest of the Teens Run Modesto Program. Norma will speak to our TRM Students and VIPS Marathon Training Group about overcoming seemingly unsurmountable obstacles and not giving up on your goals. Norma will run the Modesto Marathon with our TRM students on 3/18/2012, prior to returning to Vancouver to resume her training for her journey home.

Earn cash for your school’s art program while supporting your TRM team and the community.

See your school TRM site leader to enter.

How it works:

• Each school with a Teens Run Modesto
• Program is eligible to enter.
• Your school’s art class will be provided with canvas, class must provide own paint.
• Theme of artwork must be running and Modesto.
• Work must be completed by 3/15/2011 and presented to the school TRM site leader.
• All entries will be displayed at the Modesto Centre Plaza on 3/19/2011 during The Surgical Artistry Modesto Marathon Pre Race Expo.
• Judging will take place during the Marathon Expo and winners announced at the pre-marathon pasta dinner following the Expo.
• Judging panel of 4 will be led by Dolores Avendano, world famous artist and athlete.
• Awards will be given for first. second, and third places.
• Artwork will be placed along the race course for the enjoyment of all race participants and families.
• Prize amounts to be determined at a later date.
