Pega with AI Transparency Controls to Avoid Business Risks

Pegasystems has introduced a capability to provide organizations control over the transparency of their artificial intelligence (AI) customer engagement models. According to the vendor, the latest release of the Pega Customer Decision Hub will enable users to improve deployment of AI algorithms based on transparency thresholds within their business and also help mitigate potential risks and maintain regulatory compliance.

While businesses are increasingly deploying AI to gain better insights into customer needs and provide more personalized service, sales, and marketing, not all AI models are built with the levels of transparency they may need to fully understand how AI makes its decisions, says Pegasystems. While some opaque AI algorithms may drive powerful performance, the complex logic behind these "black boxes" can’t be fully explained, resulting in a tradeoff that becomes more problematic when the model causes unintended actions. The need for greater transparency is also exacerbated, says Pegasystems, because the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which goes into effect in May 2018, mandates that businesses must be able to explain the logic behind AI models using European customer data to make decisions or risk fines for non-compliance.

As part of the AI-powered Pega Customer Decision Hub, the T-Switch will allow organizations to set the appropriate thresholds for AI transparency or opaqueness. Businesses will be able to predefine these levels for each AI model using a simple sliding scale from one (most opaque) to five (most transparent). The transparency scores will help guide business users to build AI systems using the right models that meet their organization’s transparency requirements.

Pega Customer Decision Hub users will access the T-Switch and all other Pega AI tools in a newly centralized Business Control Center for AI, allowing users to create, import, adjust, and monitor their AI models to drive better business outcomes in a single dashboard, the company says.

The T-Swich capabilities will be available by the end of October with the release of a new version of the Pega Customer Decision Hub.

MuleSoft To Break Down Barriers To Open Banking

Banking software provider Temenos has teamed up with Mulesoft, a platform provider for building application networks. The move is intended to break down barriers to the open banking initiative by facilitating API connections, reports Julie Muhn at Finovate (Banking Technology’s sister publication).

As a part of the partnership, Temenos will develop a core banking adaptor for MuleSoft’s AnyPoint platform, a system that helps companies connect applications, data and devices into a network that allows for reuse and self-service. This will establish a standard interface between Mulesoft and the Temenos integration framework and “reduce barriers” to offer banks a “seamless experience on a unified banking platform”.

Microsoft Secure Center Configuration Manager - MS SCCM

System Center Configuration Manager ( SCCM ) is a software product from the Microsoft System Center 2012 Suite. It replaces earlier versions of the name Systems Management Server (SMS).

Under (IT) Systems Management is generally the centralized management of hardware and software within a company. Systems Management is the superset of client management.

The following tasks can be carried out automatically by SCCM for a very large number of clients:

A Configuration Manager client, which runs as a service on the system, is installed on the terminal to be managed. This client (also client agent) can be installed automatically on the PCs via the so-called "client push installation" so that no manual action is necessary on the PCs even during the introduction of Microsoft SCCM in the company. If the site server can not connect to the administrative shares on the terminal, the client can also be manually installed and mapped to a management point.

In addition to the Configuration Manager Client itself, the "Software center" component is also installed, which allows users to install self-supplied software or to uninstall already installed applications.

For each of the above tasks, there is a so-called client agent, such as inventory agent, remote control agent. The principle is that the agents always work independently on the client and then make their results available to the SCCM server. The SCCM server saves the results in the SCCM database and provides the administrator with a status system with detailed feedback on all operations running on the client.

SCCM Installation, Configuration, and Administration

SCCM is suitable for medium to very large companies up to several hundred thousand jobs. If necessary, large companies are divided into several "sites" (sites), which then form a location hierarchy. This consists of a tree-shaped, outgoing from a Central Administration Site (CAS) and subordinate Primary Sites. Other sites can be mapped as secondary sites, distributed distribution points or via BranchCache on client PC depending on size and requirements. Each site server requires a Microsoft SQL Server-based database to store the information. Certain database information ("global data") is cyclically replicated between CAS and Primary Sites. Secondary sites come with a Microsoft SQL Server Express and deliver dataset data to the parent primary site. A parent site can see and manage all of its subordinate sites. A child site passes its data to its parent site. This system can also be used to administer very large environments efficiently and centrally.

The Configuration Manager console is used to control SCCM from the administrator's computer. For SCCM 2012 there is a wide selection of PowerShell -Cmdlets with which certain actions can be automated. Neither Oracle JDeveloper or BEA Workshop is going to be dumped.

The BEA WebLogic Event Server is going to be renamed to Oracle CEP.

Portals

Neither Oracle Portal or the BEA WebLogic Portal Server is going to be dumped.

SOA

The BEA AquaLogic Service Bus is going to be renamed to Oracle Service Bus. BEA SmartConnect is going to be merged with the JCA adapters in the Oracle SOA Suite. I’d guess that the Oracle ESB is going to be dumped down the road in favor of the Oracle Service Bus but supported as planned.

The BEA WebLogic Integration Server is going to be shredded across the Oracle SOA Suite over time.

The BEA deal with Amberpoint is going to be dumped in favor of the Oracle Web Services Manager.

“We want to use the combination of data and improved customer service to encourage customers to buy,” explains Christian Klein, chief operating officer at SAP.

Experimenting with Microservice-Based Business Models

With SAP Hybris as a Service on SAP Cloud Platform, customer service takes precedence over pure sales. A customer looking to buy a house shouldn’t have to go to a bank’s website in search of a cost calculator. Instead, the cost calculator could be directly embedded as a microservice on the real estate website. The clever part is that microservices have a modular structure, which means they can be implemented with minimal programming effort.

For example, if a company’s customers want UberRUSH as a delivery option, this can be implemented using SAP Hybris as a Service without significant changes to the back-end.

“We’re helping our customers design end-to-end customer journeys,” says Matthias Goehler, head of Industry Solutions for SAP Hybris.

A team at SAP Hybris Labs is devoted to developing experimental prototypes for innovative business models. An example of their work is the chatbot Charly, which enables customers to complete an order end to end via Facebook Messenger. They simply give a basic description of the product(s) they want to buy — emojis and voice entries are also possible — and the software suggests a range of possible goods, also letting them select a delivery address from their Facebook profile.

Data-Driven Product Presentation: The Smart Wine Shelf

One prototype already in operation is in a rather unexpected place. BASF in Ludwigshafen is well known for its chemical products but nestled within the mass of industrial facilities at its main site it also has its own wine cellar. The company’s wine business, which was originally established in 1901 for BASF employees, today delivers approximately 700,000 bottles of wine each year to over 40,000 customers in more than 50 countries.

Three years ago, BASF employees teamed up with SAP and spent just 12 weeks developing the Smart Wine Shelf. When a customer takes a bottle of wine from the shelf, a light sensor transmits this information to the system, triggering details of the wine’s vintage and flavor to appear on a screen. Linked to the wine shelf is a “Wine Wizard” – a mobile app that asks the customer a series of questions before suggesting a suitable wine.

From a business perspective, it’s not just the solution’s entertainment value that sparks interest, but also the data it generates. For instance, in the back end, it’s possible to analyze which wines are frequently recommended but rarely removed from the shelf.

Insights like this help the wine-seller select or rearrange wine bottles more effectively. While these functionalities were initially hardcoded, they have since been implemented in BullsEye, which is based on APIs from SAP Hybris as a Service. Future plan includes integrating the solution with sales data to obtain even more precise insights into customer preferences.

For BASF, pilot projects like this one provide valuable insights into the world of digital technologies. Like its peers in the chemicals industry, BASF wants to increase the focus it directs at the service concept in its core business in order to gain an edge over its competitors.

Important for all Sectors: Establishing a Personal Relationship with the Customer

SAP Hybris software functions as an end-to-end solution. In SAP Hybris Commerce, sales employees can individually bundle, price, and offer items across the entire product portfolio. The process eliminates traditional office work and fits seamlessly and scalable into the existing SAP landscape. Moreover, the solution complies with the EU General Data Protection Regulation that will come into force in 2018 and already gives customers the option of having their data automatically deleted on request.

SAP Hybris Commerce is also in action in other sectors, namely the world of sport. The National Hockey League in the United States and several of the teams that play in it use the solution. Thanks to geo-signal technology, season ticket holders can order drinks on their mobile devices and have them delivered directly to their stadium seat. And fans be sent recommendations for team merchandise based on their previous purchases. The NHL’s organizers also permit users to access historic player statistics in the service model.

“Our aim is to help sports clubs establish a stronger relationship with their fans in the stadium,” explains Marcus Ruebsam, senior vice president and head of Strategy and Solution Management at SAP Hybris.
