Bad news/good news moment: Drew Harris wrote a very upsetting tumblr announcement last week that the Germany Germany project would be entering hiatus for an unknown amount of time. That, of course is the bad news, the good news is: the remastered version of Radiowave is set to drop on December 14th as a sort of farewell to all of his fans. After that he's parting ways with Germany Germany, perhaps to begin some new musical endeavors, or maybe just to take a breather from the digitized lifestyle we live. The digital version of Radiowave II will be released on bandcamp via name your price download. Ten hand dubbed cassettes will also be available for $5 + shipping. A bittersweet moment for everyone. We all wish you the best of luck Drew, write back soon.

So I've fallen pretty deep into this puddle of voice samples. I can't seem to get away from songs with breakchops and glitched out mouth words. The warm tones and haunted voices seem to press all the right buttons. I was kind of taken by surprise on this one though, Doctor Jeep isn't exactly known for producing such tasty music. Boring, sweeping tones, that bring your mind into an empty state of hollow listlessness that can only be cured by the screeching sound of nails on a chalk board. Normally I spare myself the pain and just don't go there, but something about Jana's email made me feel safe from this horror. Perhaps it was the use of the words "chilled-out" and "vibes" she cracked the combination to my stupid heart with three overused words and that wonderful voice. The tape consists of nine 1-2 minute tracks recorded with love from their apartment in Brooklyn and includes two collabs with the likes of Sea Oleena and (my personal favorite) Mutual Benefit. My favorite 80's pop groovers are back, Electric Youth continues to ride the successful wake of their Hollywood exposure via "The Drive Soundtrack" and finally presented us with their first digital EP. It includes a brand new track + the original cut for Right Back To You, as well as a handful of well crafted remixes from the likes of DVAS and Sarah Sarah. But the winner by far is the pile of rare instrumentals they included, I opened the file expecting good things and was blindsided with four blank canvases for my creative mind to mold. Finally got my email flowing, and I must say after a very long work week I was pleased to find some very promising things awaiting me. Los Angeles based witchpop diva by the name of Alisa Nizhniy sent me a link to one of the smoothest/darkest jams I've heard in a while and it's been driving me insane the last few hours. Desaturated and dark, with just enough color and sex appeal to be brilliant, and the video fits that mold perfectly as well. She's also currently racing for the title of MTV's artist of the week and needs your vote to make it happen. The line between 80's funk revival and instrumental tape tunes has officially been crossed, it sounds sort of like that dusty Jane Fonda VHS I found under my bed yesterday, but with more of a funkwave aftertaste. The LA based genius Jesse Pimenta is currently pumping out some of the sweetest crossover beats I've ever heard. The funky sound of Chic's "Good Times" in unison with a satisfied "ahhhh" gives me goosebumps every time. I'm not sure what's going on over at Absent Fever but they've been pushing some really good shit lately. I haven't even properly worn out Kynan's "Garbage Beach" and they're already releasing new shit. Check out the tunez below and loot the bandcamp for a name-yr-price download. Got an email the other day that one of my favorite little cassette labels Chill Mega Chill just put out a spooky little Halloween compilation called Chiller full of new tunes from some of my favorite "dudes". The tape conjured up the likes of Ricky Eat Acid, JSHIH, Pariah Carey, etc. to bring forth exclusive jams for our plastic pumpkins. Overall it's a great tape and I'll probably end up buying it for my cassette collection before I'm done writing this post. Much like the exaggerated imagery and trendy notions of the witch house genre (and its proprietor Travis Egedy) Albert Redwine (ultrademon, Fire For Effect) is the second man to embrace the invention of his own silly genre: #seapunk. It's like the kindergarten dolphin-safe version of witch house with steel drums, no dark tones, and new trends to shove in other people's faces, so ditch the triangle shirts, throw away the cross necklaces, go find a shirt with a dolphin on it, dye your hair sea green/blue, and don't forget to sport a yin-yang on you somewhere. Tattoos are also given praise. But apart from the cultist fashion following the genre has actually given rise to some sweet tunes. His latest is a remix of (fellow seapunker) Unicorn Kid's Chrome Lion and I'm in love with it. At many points along my timeline I have declared recent music discoveries the "strangest" thing I have ever come across. All of the spectators probably giggled at me while I spoke of their originality and distance from that of the "norm". While I do not retreat from any of my previous statements, I would just like to say that this time, I have found something quite unique. for real tho. Water is two dudes from San Francisco that have made two of the most beautiful/comical albums I have ever been proud enough have in my collection. Between the scrambling synthesizers, ambient guitars, and songs about sweaters Roughhousing is an entertaining listen to say the least and probably my favorite album of 2011. Download both Roughhousing and Apartment House (free) at their bandcamp, and you'll soon see exactly what I mean. Everyone is wearing neon colored wigs and "rolling" their fucking bawls off. Your shirt is mesh, your jeans are baggy, and your totally at a 90's warehouse rave getting so fucking rad with all the teens. As I look out my window today I see nothing but dripping leaves and wet pavement, it's the first time I've seen this much rain since the drought started months ago. It's been such a long time since I've been given a rainy day feeling, it's like every 14 year-old in the world is feeling the sting of a "broken heart" for the first time. You hear your little sister crying from the other room but you just can't find it in yourself to care. That's how this rain is making me feel. So I guess Malcolm Lacey (Arrange) was reading my mind when he sent me an email containing a collaboration track he and Sam Hall (Ricky Eat Acid) composed via email. I commend them both for creating the happiest sad song I've ever heard. True story: the rain was outplaying the song when I clicked play causing an increase in volume and resulting in tears. Chrome Canyon

After much searching I have returned yet again from the dark depths of internet with a large bounty of remix gold. Sound engineer and artist Morgan Whirledge (Chrome Canyon) has been heavy on my mind ever since I discovered that Kate Bush cover he did about 4 months ago, so you can imagine my frustration when I discovered that he uploaded an absolutely brilliant set of remixes to his soundcloud almost an entire year ago. I almost gagged when I saw that he had remixed Passion Pit's Sleepyhead but after about twenty seconds I had found the one good remix amongst the thousands. I can't believe I just heard about this. We're talking bass slapping, cheesy Roland chords full of synthesized 80's brass, a funk induced coma of genius. After listening to the set and downloading it entirely free on his soundcloud my ears are fully committed to tracking his every move. Listen to the rest of the set at his soundcloud.

I also recently discovered that he's actually the sound engineer for Magic Man, mad respect.

It's been a little over a year now since Nazcar released their Dynazty EP, and I've really been craving more from them. But everytime I've check their soundcloud nothing really changes, (apart from your occasional rework or remix.) This time I found something, three days ago they released the first single off of what I hope is a full length album. It's called Beautiful Brodown, and it's one of my favorite new tracks. A little bit slower than their first single, "Beeswax" but that doesn't subtract from the absolutely wonderful and warm beach vibes of Beautiful Brodown. It's pretty fucking awesome to finally hear another great single come out of my favorite LA based trio after waiting such a long time. Totally worth it. Junior Boys @ Granada Dallas

The night started out aggravating, endless miles of 8 PM traffic were keeping me from what I anticipated to be one of the greatest shows of my life. Jeremy and Matt went on at 10:20 according to the online roster and even though it was only 8:45 I still wanted to see the first two bands. the traffic did cause me to miss out on Datahowler's performance. But right after walking into a half empty room of bustling pseudo-hipsters wearing plastic Ray Ban style wayfarers, the large projector screen advertising the next big show for The Rapture began to rise revealing a bearded man standing before a small synth and a beat work station. I was mildly entertained during Egytrixx's performance but after his second song I would have much rather stared blankly at the large Rapture ad until Junior Boys came on. Basically it seemed like he was just carelessly turning knobs and hitting sound pads, very annoying to the ears. just lots of random beat patterns and air synths. Blah so after a very bad performance from Egyptrixx (and about twenty minutes of talking to excited like minded strangers.) the lights dimmed out. The crowd erupts as Matt and Jeremy walk out of the now foggy stage. I turned around and was surprised to see that the once half empty theater had now more than tripled in size, a full house. How exciting, I had no idea there were this many Junior Boys fans in the DFW. Jeremy's wonderful voice echoed throughout the entire theater and got the crowd moving all night. The entire show my mouth was wide open in amazement this was the greatest thing I had ever seen, But the show really exploded after their last song came to a close. They thanked the crowd for coming out and left the stage, the cheers were endless for a minute, then slowly morphed into an encore chant. The boys returned to give me an eight minute encore I will never forget, it gets pretty emotional towards the end and still gives me goosebumps to watch. The Dirty Lungs

When I hear a good psychedelic/surf-rock/garage noise/genre raped band I can't keep myself from drawing attention to it. And The Dirty Lungs are no exception to my genre raping blog post. When listening to sounds that lack electronic intervening three criteria must be met in order for any track to be listenable. This goes for everything that clings to any of the following genres: surf, surf-rock, garage-noise, psychedelic nu-noise, psyche-rock, and all other genres that generally mean the same exact thing.

Criteria:

1. Reverb, reverb, reverb

If it doesn't sound like your playing from a shitty pocket amp in a large room it's garbage.

2. Over-amplification

If my speakers aren't blown and rattling due to the fact that I was caught off guard when I clicked play, it's no good.

3. Drugs

If I don't immediately get a craving for hallucinogenic mushrooms during the song you took a wrong turn.
