Australia – Day 11 of 365

Day 11 of 365; Australia.
Last night I finalised plans to visit Australia so opened this bottle of red. Today I booked the flights for me and friends – and finished off the bottle of wine.

There’s four of us going and the plan is to start with a week in Adelaide at the end of March. Then it’s off to Cairns, driving down to Townsville – with the final leg being a week in Brisbane.

Excited really doesn’t do it justice!

Underneath giant icicles that have formed on the guttering of my house I found this formation of ice. I lay in the snow to take the photo and a gust of wind just happened to blow up some of the powdery snow – captured in the sunlight.

I headed out to take my washing to the machine this morning, and the squirrel family were out-and-about. As usual they went back to their den when they saw me, so I captured a few shots as they made their way back.

Car in Snow – Day 2 of 365

This is an HDR image from three exposures, bracketed at 2 stops. Camera mounted on my barely-functional tripod (after I snapped a leg support, whoops).

Once merged and reduced to 16-bit I’ve applied a bit of sharpening and increased saturation to bring out the red of the car some more.

Ambition – Day 1 of 365

A new year, a new 365 day project. Not self-portraits this time, just a photo a day, every day, for a year.

Day 1 is titled ‘Ambition’, as suits New Year’s Day, and represents things I hope to achieve in 2010. That being, more photography (and the 365 project), getting healthier, cutting down on alcohol and heading to sunny climbs for holidays (notably Australia, followed by Cyprus for the wedding of friends).

Narrowboat Sub-genre

As many will be aware, earlier this year myself and friends produced a tribute to ‘The Lonely Island featuring T-Pain’s “On a Boat” while on a narrowboat holiday in France. I’ll take this opportunity to remind people that the lyrics are naughty – so it isn’t one for kiddies or playing loudly in work. Headphones advised.

Since posting it to YouTube it’s had more than 1,000 views and it seems it’s become part of a narrowboat-related collection of tributes to The Lonely Island. My brother spotted one (the second in this list) and I discovered the rest last night.

First off, there’s this one:

Now, this has one major issue, not shared by the others. No boat. Sure, there are clips of other people on boats, but there is a distinct lack of footage of the protagonists on a boat. I guess they were hoping nobody would notice, due to their superior lip-syncing (when compared to all the other examples).

Second up:

Okay, this is certainly much better, but they fall short of the mark by making themselves immediately wrong through use of their own lyrics. Good idea, customised for the entire narrowboat experience – except they’re singing “I’m on a barge”. No, they’re not. It’s a narrowboat. They also appear to be a bunch of toffs; but I guess I should let that go.
Finally:

This is definitely the best of the bunch (and puts our lip-syncing to shame ). Especially love the stop-motion movement of the boat to speed it up; and the sleeping bag for a dolphin.
What they all lack, however, is T-Pain – which is a crucial ingredient.. Oh, and HD.
