Pokiri(2006) Review

Ileana's and Mahesh Babu's is a match made in heaven, on screen atleast. Mahesh Babu and Prakash Raj in Pokiri, both considered to be in the upper echelons of their respective generations and both of them fine actors.

And both of them, in the same movie. (Well, this paragraph sure sounds like an ad, doesn’t it?) What's it about? Mahesh Babu is an intelliegence agent who gets assigned to a very special case. As Pandu he is to infiltrate a faction of the mob led by Prakash Raj, who befriends him and soon becomes his protégé.

Meanwhile we are treated to a love track between Mahesh and Ileana who is inturn an aerobics instructor constantly harrased by Ashish Vidyardhi a cop. Pokiri is totally realistic.

Performances: Prakash Raj's character is not a high-roller; he’s not a mack daddy or a sharpshooter. He’s a loser but when Pandu joins his gang, he becomes an asset.
Mahesh is one of the finest actors today and this time he is a perfect choice to play the role.

His chemistry with Prakash Raj is incredible. Speaking of Mahesh, this is quite possibly his best role since Athadu. He looks rugged, energetic and has grown his hair long. Ileana shows how popular she's growing by each day, be it looks or her acting skill.

Prakash Raj couldn't dominate this time so it's become a cakewalk for the hero. Sayaji Shinde's positive role gets applause. Comedy falters at points.

Analysis: The energy in the film Pokiri makes one gets totally involved and moves the film in a very brisk pace. There is a possibility of editing a 15 minute scene in the film. Lot of sparks reminding you of Idiot is visible.

Music and re-recording and photography for Pokiri is very good. Rifle shooting takes a prominent position and action scenes get their share of identity.

Plus: Mahesh, Ileana, music and mass elements

Flaws: Villain's charactere getting weak and comedy track

Pokiri is not totally original: it has a uncommon approach, but it keeps elements of other, more traditional wiseguy movies. The script is filled to the brim with conventional dialogue and profanity-laden tirades (between the comedians), but that aspect had already been perfected.

Looks like Puri wanted to deliver a hit at any cost. Full of fun and entertainment and is gettinga positive talk all over.

Final Say: Pokiri is an example of how to make a movie right.Hoping that pokiri will rock in all languages

Story:
Aditya(manoj) is son of business man,Who owns lot of property from his parents.Unfortunately ,he loses his father in an accident.Though he is saved in the accident by proper treatment ,but he loses his memory of past.Thereafter he suffered with memory disorder.Aditya loses his memory everyday he wakes up.So every day is a new day to the aditya.Only his uncle and his personal doctor knows his situation entirly.Nazar happens to be his uncle,he manages entire his business.

Aditya works in a company and falls in love with madhumitha(riya sen) vice president of the company.Not all employees are aware that aditya is working for his own company as a general employee.Nazar discovers that aditya and madhu are deeply in love.Nazar thiks wise and narrate the whole aditya's health condition to madhumitha and alters his health condition by saying he is suffering from heart-aliement and is going to die within one year.Madhu digests everything truth and ready to get marry him .An enagagement is announced.Nazar declared that he is going to handover all his properties to him after marriage.
There comes a twist,nazar is murdered and his body is found in aditya's car.Police arrested aditya.A lady police officer anjali(sneha ullal) asked to investigate the murder.Anjali is an IPS officer ,but lover of aditya in the past.They study together in same college.They part their ways due to stupid incident.Aditya wants his lover anjali to be back and wants his father to see her.But as fate decides the future ,aditya loses his father and looses his memory.

Aditya wants to solve the murder case of his uncle,that is why he is decided not to sleep, so that he can sleep previous day things ,then actual suspence starts,that you should watch it on big screen.

Artists performance:

Manchu manoj:

manoj has shown lot of maturity in this film.He carried entire movie sigle hand.Manoj put a lot of hard work a gain the body shape.As far his acting is concern ,he has done ful justice to his character,and he even composed few fights.

Sneha ullal:

Sneha ullal appeared in second half ,in flash back.Her looks in this film are good.As far as acting is concered she could have been better in some scenes.

Riya sen:

Riya sen has been their entire first half,plays a madhu role.Riya sen facial expressions should have been better,Looks glamours in this film.

Technical department:

This movie is entirley technical based film.Technical department has done fantastic job entire film.

Ajay sastri:

we should talk more about ajay sastri.Ajay sastri shown maturity entire film.The story line which he selected is very thin,but new to the telugu audiance .This film screenplay shold have been better,getting bored in some scenes.

music:

Songs of this film are ok,two songs are good.Back ground of this movie is great.

photography of this movie is great.Every frame appeared very rich.The entire movie is different colorful with compare to other movie.

Story
An assistant director Ravi (Ravi Teja) struggles to become a good director. He works under an established director Idli(Brahmanandam) but he goes through lot of troubles getting right launch pad. On other hand, Sandhya (Siya), a troupe dancer falls in love with him. he has dreams of becoming a full-fledged director at the earliest opportunity. Idli is directing a film with hero Mallik (Subbaraju) and heroine (Mumaith Khan). This film releases and flops putting producer (Sayaji Shinde) in a tight financial position.

Ravi, meanwhile falls in love with Sandhya (Seiya) who is a group dancer. However, a dada Yadu (Supreeth) also has an evil eye on her, which results in clashes between Ravi and Yadu.
Destiny and fate take over the lives of Ravi and Sandhya. She becomes a top heroine and Ravi also gets a chance to direct a film. The rest of the story deals with whether Ravi realizes his dream.

Analysis

Neninthe is all about movie industry and its pitfalls. Puri's 'bold' attempt to throw 'light' on industry's 'dark secrets' is not convincing. Those who are not well versed with the industry's inside stories would feel big bore. Except some 'movie buffs', the so-called satires on the movie industry cannot be related to. And the narration of the movie is very slow and there is hardly any story.

The biggest problem with the movie is that you can't empathize with the protaganist. Puri Jagannadh's hollow script, weak characterization of Ravi Teja and confused goal of the movie are main drawbacks. There are certain scenes that evoke right emotions and some scenes reflect Puri's intelligence, yet he has failed to translate them correctly on the whole. He also touches many aspects related to the movie industry. There is too much of everything that spoils the broth.

Performances

Ravi Teja carries the same rugged look that he has been showing in all the movies. For the character of a struggling assistant director, he looks odd with his 'street fighter' looks. Yet, he comes up with good performance in emotional scenes. Newcomer Siya is apt for 'junior artiste or dancer'. Mumait Khan's episode is silly. Subbaraju is okay. As 'die'-hard fan, Sairam Shankar stands out with his neat performance.

As in all Puri's movies, Shyam K Naidu excels with his right visuals in tune with the movie. Music by Chakri is ordinary excpet for the song of 'Krishna nagare mama..'

Puri Jagannadh is letdown by his own writing
(script). Characterization of Ravi Teja is so confusing. Sometimes he is sober and in the next scene he is aggressive and bashes up villain (in all about 10 times). He is failed to portray the angle of an underdog (a struggling director) winning his goal correctly. The so-called satires on the movie industry are also skewed.

Puri’s screenplay does not make the narration interesting or grip the attention of the viewers. A series of unrelated contrived incidents are more prone to confuse the audience, particularly when there is no identifiable storyline and improper characterization of the protagonists and the chief supporting characters.

There is nothing wrong with cinematography and editing. There is nothing special to write about those areas. Chakri for once composes unadulterated cacophony. At least sometime ago he used to compose music. As a random joining of scenes do not make a screenplay, random mixture of different sounds do not make music.

Bottom-line

Neninthe might seem 'bold' concept wise but it lacks punch. The treatment, hero's character, the supposed jokes, and satires all have not worked well. This film was meant to be a dig at the film industry on a lighter vein but it looked more like a autobiography with the most practical outlook. The personal thoughts and anguish of the director were clearly evident in few scenes but then if he was planning to entertain the crowds with his self story then it must be said that he has failed in his job. The brilliance of his direction was missing completely. While the first half of the film was quite haphazard, the second half gets into a direction but there is no element of gripping scenes or something that leaves an impact. The film will run due to its very different storyline and the fast paced canning but entertainment quotient or comedy aspect is nil. This will get its investment but there is nothing more to it.

Ready movie review

After ‘Seenu’ had a not so good stay in ‘Dubai’, Mr. Seenu Vaitla this time is ready [read eager] to get this throne back as the director who can deliver lol comedy, sensitive emotions, and an interesting story all in one package. Although this time around, Seenu Vaitla is unable to deliver the above mentioned features to their fullest [like Anandam, Venky], he and his writers somehow succeed in presenting an enjoyable fare.

Story:

Chandu (Ram) is the son of Raghava (Tanikella Bharani). Theirs is a joint family with an elder brother Raghupati (Nazar) and a younger brother Rajaram(Chandramohan). Chandu helps Raghupati's daughter to marry her lover (Navadeep) against the wishes of their family. As a result, Chandu is forced to stay off from the family. He, somehow, continues his studies and happens to see Puja (Genelia) and loses his heart. Chandu kidnaps Puja due to mistaken identity. Puja's uncles Peddi Reddy (Kota Srinivasa Rao) and Chinna Reddy (Jayaprakash Reddy) are factionalists of Rayalaseema. Each of them plans to get Puja married to their sons to bequeath her Rs 100 crore property. In order to save her, Chandu manages her to stay with his parents. The family learns that Chandu and Puja are in love with each other. However, when the entire family goes to a temple, Peddi Reddy notices her and takes her away. To win her love and marry her with the acceptance of all the family members of Puja, Chandu takes the help of McDowell Reddy (Brahmanandam), an auditor of Peddy Reddy and Chinna Reddy. Slowly, he hatches a plan and gets both the warring families united. Later, Chandu makes them believe that Puja has no property and is in debt trap. He convinces both the Reddys and make them accept to look for another alliance and introduces Raghupati and Raghava as millionaires from the US. After a sequences of events, both the Reddys agree to get Puja married to Chandu. In the climax, Chandu makes them realize that money is not the criteria but the human relations that are great. The film ends with a happy note.

Performance:

Ram looks glamorous and has appreciable histrionics too, and his ease on the screen can be felt. He did well in dance and action sequences too, while delivering impressive performance all through. His action scenes as Krishh and Spiderman were received well too. He has shown lot of improvement in his performance and came out with originality. In 'Devadas' and 'Jagadam', knowingly or unknowingly he has shown the influences of Pawan Kalyan and Aditya Om. But now he improved a lot.

Genelia has a limited role in the second half, as comedy takes the front seat, but she's at home in her role of a girl who is attached to her family. She justified her role completely.

Brahmanandam as "McDowl" (McDowell?) Murthy plays a role that gets confused at the story getting weaved around him, and offers good comedy like in the director's earlier movies. Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam gets a limited role that still entertains the audience until his last dialogue. Srinivasa Reddy offers good comedy in the first half. Both Kota Srinivasa Rao and Jayaprakash Reddy have roles with shades of faction and comedy that they handle with ease. The rest of the cast is adequate, but with such a huge star cast, it's tough to give them all roles of their range, and thus some of them get wasted. One such role is that of M.S. Narayana, who's limited to two scenes. Ravi Varma looks good in his new look, but is limited to two scenes too. Sunil's role of a classical dancer that develops feminine characters due to his art is in bad taste, and thus thankfully limited. Navadeep and Tamanna (a relative of the protagonist) appear as a pair that get married with the help of the protagonist, with their screen presence for not more than a couple of minutes.

Technical Departments:

Story of the film is intricate. The screenplay in the second half delivered the much required punch. You do not see Seenu Vytla brand of comedy in the first half except for a couple of scenes with Sunil. Most of the second half belongs to Seenu Vytla. The way he introduced Brahmanandam and made him an integral part in the second half is strategic. He extracted solid performance from Brahmanandam without being repetitive. Direction of Seenu Vytla is good in the second half. Songs and background score by Devi Sri Prasad is good. The bonhomie song towards climax is a good on the screen. Dialogues in the film are in good health, away from vulgarity. We do except a better cinematography for a film of this stature. The money spent on the film could not reflect on its visuals, showing mediocre output in patches in certain scenes. Fights by Peter Hynes are well choreographed, but the script of the film does not really demand such buildup. Editing of the film is passable and the first half needs some trimming. Production values by Sravanthi banner are very good.

Final Analysis:

Kona Venkat has scripted the story which reminds the audiences of films like Nuvvu Naaku Nachav, and Dhee, with good family backdrop. The film highlights the values of combined families, which are on the wane and nuclear families have become vogue. Dialogues penned by Gopi Mohan in association with Kona Venkat are also very casual. It is Sreenu Vaitla's directorial ability that is the major plus point of the movie. He showcases the comedy with utmost easy and each and every scene and frame evokes good entertainment. Ram has also showed good comedy timing. He showed fantastic ease in dances and action scenes as well. Genelia repeated her chirpy performance on the lines of Bommarillu and Dhee and proved a perfect match to the hero. Once again Brahmanandam has taken the cake and Sreenu Vaitla has given fantastic role to this comedian and he proved that he is a king of comedy. Though Sunil plays another comedy role, he has failed to make the audiences laugh with his humour. All the character artistes have done their best to entertain the audiences. Though the film is quite okay in providing entertainment, many scenes are out of logic. The director, though runs the film with a firm grip till climax, he has failed to give a convincing end to the subject. There is a big comment from the audiences that the climax is little dull. Music by Devisri Prasad, though okay in the film, almost all the tunes appear quite old and many songs are on the lines of Devisri Prasad's earlier movies. It lacks novelty and contains the same kind of beat like his earlier films. The director ignored to give a good end to the roles played as hero's sidekicks and they suddenly disappear. However, none of these lapses turn an obstacle for the success of the film.

What's it all about?
A US-aspiring software engineer Ajay (Ranadheer), a wanna-be police turned security man Kiran (Narasimha Uthkam), and an assistant film director Subbu (Subhash) are friends in Hyderabad trying to live their dreams. Veerababu a.k.a. Babu (Nikhil) , outcast from his uncle's family, joins them from Kesavaram village, where they were all childhood friends.

Babu meets Vishalakshi a.k.a Baby (Aksha) in a strange situation, and very soon they fall in love. Subbu finally seems to have made it big, and while everyone is celebrating, an old feud fires up, leaving the would-be director with serious skull injuries. The friends, including Ajay's girl Madhavi (Monali Choudhry) and Baby, decide to pool up all sources for money for his surgery. They finally loan the amount from a merciless goon (Narsing). When he pressurizes them to repay him, they plan to rob from the security company where Kiran works, and they plan everything right, but Kiran decides to wait behind since it might hand them up all! Ajay and Babu get arrested by the police at the company, but that's after they realize someone else had already robbed all the money! Was Kiran true in his reason? What's his role in the robbery? How much does Subbu's accident really turn the story?

Performances
Cast:
Nikhil is at ease as a careless and fearless youth, but he needs to take care of his diction some more. Aksha is okay but has a short, insignificant role in the film that goes around friends. Ranaadheer, who also acted as senior student in Happy Days, has a considerably lengthy role in this film and he performs okay. His body language is stiff at times, though. Monali Choudhry is attractive but has a limited role as his love interest and the daughter of their house owner (played by Sivanarayana of Amrutham fame). Narasimha and Subhash fit in their roles well and have done good job. Sayaji Shinde as hardcore criminal Nananna who has a weak point of being a fan of Simran plays more a comedy role than that of a criminal.

Narsing and Jeeva appear as comedy-oriented baddies, offering some good comedy through a part of the film. Jayaprakash Reddy as the jailer, Sreenivasa Reddy as a sentry, and Prithvi as "Krishna Manohar IPS" do a good job within the scope of their roles. Sivanarayana as the house owner is intended for comedic relief, but falls short of expectations of people who may want to compare his similar role from his much-celebrated TV show Amrutham. Hero Siddharth and Krishnudu (of Happy Days and Vinayakudu fame) appear in the end of the film, rather unnecessarily.

Technical Departments:
Debut director Parashuram comes up with an appreciable story line for the film. He also ensured a gripping screenplay and unveils the story carefully, maintaining elements of comedy and suspense in right proportions. In fact, it's notable that he has given more importance to the story than to the threads of romance between the two lead pairs. The taking goes in a good pace for most part; more care should have been taken in establishing the romance between the hero and heroine. Camerawork is okay, but the digital intermediatary (DI) work brings in inconsistencies pertaining to focus in a couple
of scenes. Picturization of songs is okay, but it's more the lyrics that catch the attention of the audiences, and some tunes are catchy; choreography is okay too. Re-recording could have been better. Fights are choreographed in a natural style. Dialogues are very good and natural through most of the film, particularly depicting the hero's characterization. Editing is just okay. Production values are appreciable.

Minor Overlook:

* Why should the heroine tolerate the hero in the initial scenes? What's her logic behind falling in love with him?
* Characterization of the two male leads is sacrificed in picturizing the item song maa oorEmO chinna....
* Are prisoners' numbers issued in series or by fancy numbers? How can two people arrested at the same time have numbers "420" and "786"?
* Discussions about Ranadheer's visa stamping and going to the USA go on even while he's been imprisoned! How can anyone with pending criminal cases on oneself think of going outside the country anyway?
* What's called a "blank call"? A call from an unknown number or a call without any speech from the caller's end?
* Who made threatening calls to Aksha anyway?
* When the voice-over towards the end of the film rightly says " ennainaa", it's misprinted on the screen as " Ennena".
* The court scene towards the end of the film is executed like they want to urgently wrap the film up, breaking the tempo maintained till then.
* Heroine supposedly goes to the "Home for the Aged" daily, at least until she finds the hero. What about after that? At least one scene together at the Home would have highlighted her characterization a bit more.
* When the makers plan to use a polyphonic ringtone aakalEstE... for the hero, they could have shown a better phone
than a Nokia 1108!

Bottom Line:
While the title Yuvata is not really justified for a film on friends, the film is a decent entertainer in its own stride. Good story, okay performances, catchy tunes and lyrics, and no-nonsense screenplay, garnished with light comedy through dialogues and scenes may enhance the life of the film that opened in a rather low key. The film has a good interval bang and the second half has twists that enhance the tempo. The director should be appreciated for delivering his goods well. The hero who lost on his first solo hero film may gain better response to this film.

Bommarillu is the best example of perfect casting.. Siddardha, who is very natural, charming has everything in life. He realizes that happiness is missing in his life. Bhaskar, who was the debutant director for Bommarillu has portrayed heroine's(genelia) character very well. The character is portrayed in such a way that she was very friendly with everyone. she was bouyant, lively and entertaining. Bhaskar showed her as an innocent, naughty and a child like woman. She again showed that she can perform non weepy roles with ease and her performance was akin to what Meera did in Pandem Kodi. She steals the show with her mind-blowing performance. She is like an angel with lot of purity. The most crucial part of his performance comes in the confrontation scene with aravind(Prakash Raj). Aravind is at his best in this role that demands extraordinary performance. He is a man who wants to give the best in the world to all his family members. In the process, he makes the family members forcibly accept whatever he says. He fixes siddhu's engagement with Subbalaxmi(neha), the daughter one of his friends (Tanikella Bharani), against the wishes of Siddhu. After the engagement is over, aravind came to know that siddu is in love with hasini..He refuses siddu's love. But, siddu tries to convince him. He asks his father to give him one chance to prove that hasini is his correct choice and brings her to his house. Hasini reveals each and every thing to the family members. On the day, when Aravind has to reveal his decision, Hasini comes to him saying that she is not the right choice and goes away from there. After that in a frustrating mood, Siddhu gives a detailed clarification to his father. He explains everything that he has lost and makes his father to agree for his proposal. Savitha Reddy, who was the dubbing artist for Bommarillu has given her best output for the Hasini character in this film. One wonders why Jayasudha is taken for such a role which has got very few dialogues, but her performance in confrontation scene with Prakash Raj in climax is enough to justify why it takes a natural actress like Jayasudha to do that role. After many years Sunil has done a superb comedy role. His expressions as servant in Prakash Raj’s house remind us of comedians of golden era. Kota srinivasa rao has done a very good role. Dharmavarapu Subramanyam has done a good job. Chitram Seenu, Vijay and Ravi Varma are good friends of hero.

ANALYSIS:
The film Bommarillu is neither a director's movie nor a hero's film, but it is everybody's film. The director involved all the characters in the success of the film. Especially, the choice of artistes for characters is very apt and all the artistes performed excellently and gave their best. After a long time, a heroine of a film had a full-time screen presence with lots of scope to perform and Genelia utilized the opportunity well and showed the best of her ability as a happy-go-lucky and innocent girl's character. Though a very little role to perform, the choice of Jayasudha was proved just before the climax. As usual, Prakash Raj did justice to his role. As was already said, it is everybody's film.

MUSIC:
Music for Bommarillu is outstanding. The most important part of the story lies in the second half.Background music is excellent. The scenes in the first half are good. The songs in second half are excellently blended into the narration with good emotional quotient. The choreography for each and every song is very nice. The locations for Bommani Geeste song are very beautiful.

OTHER DEPARTMENTS:
Abburi Ravi's dialogues are neat and they never seem out of place or wasted. His work became easy as the scenes were crisp and tight. Devisri triumphs and re-recording is great. The songs Bommarillu are a visual treat. Editing, art department all is well and finally a word about Dil Raju. He definitely has a pulse and knows what the audience wants and never mixes the film with masala. Bhaskar...bravo!

'Vinayakudu' Different love story with a 'fatty' hero

Story Line:

The film is a love affair between fat Karthik(Krishnudu) and sophisticated Kalpana(Sonia).

Story:

Premkumar Patra, who had produced 'Aa Naluguru' earlier, earned a good name for choosing a different message-oriented subject. In fact, he earned laurels for choosing an off beat subject for his film. After giving a nice movie with a good message, the same producer changed his track and chose a love subject for his next film. Though it is a love story, Premkumar showed the difference that love did not arise only between a cute couple and even those who was fat and who is black could also fall in love and it was the soul which is very important than the bodily beauty.

Karthik(Krishnudu) lives in Rajole.He meets Madhavi(vahidha) ,hyderabad resident,through chatroom.They become friends without meeting each other.He stays with his sister's(satya krishnan) home who lives with her family in Hyderabad colony.One fine day he goes to meet Madhavi.But in twist of fate,the cruch didn't last long.Madhavi gets shocked after seeing his appearance,and makes her move pretending that she is not madhavi but a friend of her.
Later by his friend help he gets the job in the creative department of Reliance Mobile Company,there he come across Kalpana(Sonia) with whom he falls love at first sight.Kalpana is an ultra model girl.She had independent views.Like other urban girls she had lots of freedom in her house.Coming to the Karthik ,he has positive mind.He always keeps himself happy.He is stright forward and have no inhibitions.As a whole he has typical childish mentality.He wins her heart with his loving, caring and clean attitude towards her. Sandhya aka Sandy (Poonam Kour) stays along with Kalpana who falls in love with Kartik's friend Altaf (Surya Teja). Finally things settled down and the message is 'looks are no way linked up with love but it is the love and caring attitude that is important'.

Positive elements:
Selected theme is good and background music is nice,it helps movie alot.Karthik's characterization is main plus to the Movie.
Negative elements:Narration of this film is slow.Not given importance comedy.No mass elements,targeting multiplexes.

Krishnudu:
So far Krishnudu has done so many small roles in various pictures,didnt get break,Now iam sure people recognize him as vinayakudu in real life.Coming to his performance ,he could have given better expressions,as the story revolves around him.Entire film he manages with his dialogues,He could have produce comedy with his expressions.He produce sentiment by his performance and looks in the film. Overall performance is OK.

Sonia :

Dusky girl Sonia is good as usual without any change over from Happy Days. She has got longer role to do here. She has done justice to her character.

Technical Department:

Technically, the movie is brilliant and music is above average. Cinematographer Vinda carried the job very well.

Director Adivi Saikiran has given a right film that appeal for all age groups.
Recommendation:
Worth to watch one time.Entire film is not boring.We can get what we paid off

Final thought:
We should appreciate producer electing this nice subject.Telugu film industry needed these kind of Directors.Final thought is educated persons should come into film industry ,then only we can get these kind of films.

Story

Gamyam the movie starts with the story of a rich Guy Abhiram (Sarvanand). He is the younger sibling in the house and has grown up as a spoilt brat in the house. He is a son of a rich industrialist who has innumerable Riches and properties. As is the case with many rich people, Abhiram has also a bug in his mind that poor and middle classed people are ill mannered and are bad natured.

So Abhiram never mingles with people who are not up to his mark in the riches. At this time, he comes across a beautiful a doctor named Janaki (Kamalinee) . Janaki is an orphan who comes up in life the hard way. She is a doctor by profession and she serves the poor and the less privileged.
The two become close and mingle closely. However, Abhiram doesn’t like Janaki’s modest background and her social services. In the same way Janaki also hates Abhiram’s attitude of hating the poor and loving the richer class.

She likes him but is not sure of how he honest he is about love and his responsibility towards society.On his birthday party, the differences between them come out in the open with his attitude leaves him and goes away. Abhiram is now desperately in look out for Janaki.

In search of his lover, Abhiram takes a journey on his motorcycle. During the course of journey, he meets a petty thief Gaali Sreenu (Allari Naresh). Abhiram due to some incidents comes in contact with Seenu and with his help tries to trace out Janaki. The two search for Janaki on Seenu’s bike. Abhiram finally manages to trace Janaki at a small village where she is serving the poor. It is here that Abhiram learns the true meaning of life, while his long journey with Seenu makes him understand the lessons of human nature and also the realities inside the lives of the rich and the poor.
Finally, Abhiram changes in the climax and all ends in a happy note.

Analysis
Gamyam is good cinema. A new director Radhakrishna comes up with an entertaining and thought provoking film. This is perfect example of a director 'inspiring' by a World Cinema classic and telling the story completely different and unique style. The director is inspired by it (a genuine case of inspiration, not copying).

A spoiled rich brat realizes the social responsibility by taking an unusual journey. A petty thief realizes the meaning of life after an accidental meeting with this guy on the road. And there is love story to the basis for them. The director's intricately crafted script laced with comedy and rawness makes the film a treat to watch. Superb dialogues and sensible handling (in spite of naivety in some scenes) have helped the film.

The writing is multi-layered. Despite the serious theme, the director and its scriptwriter have never left an opportunity to include comic situations and add commercial elements such as show by recording dance troupe. A debutant director handling such subject is commendable feature. He proves that offbeat themes can be told entertainingly.

Performances

Sharwanand is good in the role of the main lead. But it is Allari Naresh who hogs the limelight. The character of ’Gaali Seenu’ is probably the best in the career of Allari Naresh.

There are similarities between Gaali Seenu character in Gamyam and Jagapati Babu's role in Anthahpuram. Kamalinee Mukherjee’s role is little passive though the entire story revolves around her. She did well. It has become customary for the hero to beg for Kamalinee’s love during the climax in most of the films she worked. The guy who did the role of naxalite helping heroes is very competent.

Bottom-line!

Gamyam is good cinema with touch of artistic values. The film's strength are writing and direction. New director Radhakrishna shows that offbeat movies can be made entertainingly. He deserves praise for his honest effort and superb writing. Despite some flaws (like slow pace in the second half, not so lilting music) and irrespective of its commercial viability, the film is a treat to watch.

kotha bangaru lokam movie review

Like Bommarillu, this film too deals with the problem of parents and children. In that film, they tried to balance between parents and kids, this film takes some bias towards parents as the kids in this film are doing intermediate unlike the graduates in Bommarillu.

Story:

Balu (Varun Sandesh) is the only son of his parents (Prakash Raj and Jayasudha). Incidentally, Balu's parents had a love marriage. Balu's father never treated him as his son but like a friend. He gave him complete freedom in all respects. After completion of his SSC, Balu got admission in a junior college and stays in the hostel. Swapna (Swetha) is the daughter of a landlord (Ahuti Prasad). Like many teenage boys and girls, they too get attracted to each other. However, they cannot decide whether theirs is an attraction or love. When there are holidays, both Swapna and Balu decide to note down as to how many times they remembered each other and to their surprise they realise that each of them times they remember one another. They finally confirm that they are in love. Once, the girls go on an outing from hostel and Balu jumps the boundary wall and join Swapna. Incidentally, some person clicks their photograph and get it published in the newspaper. The principal sends away Balu and directs him to bring his father to obtain hall ticket for the exam. Swapna's father who sees the photographs takes away his daughter. Now the struggle between the souls start. Balu makes several efforts to find out Swapna's address but cannot trace it. However, Swapna gets the address of Balu and writes down a letter to him. Somehow, both of them again meet during the exam time. Pulling courage, Balu meets Swapna's father and boldly explains his love towards Swapna. Later, Swapna's father decides to marry her to someone. Noticing the change in Balu, his mother tries to find out the problem but fails to know anything. Accidentally, Balu's friend Raga Sudha (Sushma) reveals his love story to Balu's father. At that time Swapna decides to elope with Balu. However, the latter could not meet her as Balu's father died in an accident. His father's death makes Balu make a commitment that he would groom himself the way his father had dreamt of. He completes his engineering course. When he is about to take his degree, Swapna's father accidentally meets Balu in a railway station. Then Balu realises that Swapna is not with either of them. In the climax, Balu's mother reveals that she had kept Swapna in their lecturer's custody and had made her to complete her engineering too. The film ends on a happy note with the union of Balu and Swapna.

Performance:

Main leads:

Varun Sandesh got a very good opportunity to prove his performance in this movie. The character had different shades, like a chivalrous boy, a father’s son, a lover, a depressed lover and a student. Varun Sandesh though performed well in all the scenes, he still needs to improve his diction. Especially the voice needs some depth in emotional scenes

Swetha Prasad, who made her debut as heroine is perfect fit in the role. She also did a nice job all through the movie. This girl too needs to improve her facial expressions, though she is okay in her debut appearance. She has glamour and also had some capability to perform.

Other actors:
Once again Ahuti Prasad got a very good character. His performance in angry scenes and frustration scenes is worth watching. As usual Prakash Raj outsmarted everyone in the film with his casual performance. Jayasudha and Prakash Raj play a perfect couple like they did in Bommarillu film. However, the sudden closure of his character shocks the audiences. Rao Ramesh got one more good chance to prove his capability in the role of a lecturer. As a whole all the artistes did complete justice to their respective roles, including Brahmanandam with his own style of comedy.

TECHNICAL:

The director of the film, Srikant Addala, who made his debut with the film needs kudos as he brought out a delicate love story with utmost precision. Though the storyline is very thin and delicate, the gripping screenplay, marvellous taking made the film very interesting. The entire first half was devoted to explain the teenage love, the second half explains how forbearance would bear fruit in the end. Especially, Srikant proved that direction is not just moulding the film but to extract the talents from the artistes. Dil Raju’s decision in choosing a senior cinematographer like Chota K Naidu proved right as he was able to capture the feelings of the director and mould it on the celluloid with his camera. Especially his seniority helped in capturing the beauty of the Konaseema and its greenery. Marthand K Venkatesh’s editing is perfect and one can’t find any scene which is not worth it. Dialogues penned by the director himself are also good with occasional satires. Music by Mickey J Meyer is another asset for the film. Almost all the songs are melodious and at the same time their choreography was also worth watching.

Final Analysis:

First of the film is decent and the second half is excellent. Like Bommarillu, this film too deals with the problem of parents and kids. In that film, they tried to balance between parents and kids, this film takes some bias towards parents as the kids in this film are doing intermediate unlike the graduates in Bommarillu. If Happy Days makes you feel nostalgic about your engineering college days, KBL will make you feel nostalgic about your intermediate days in a residential college. This film sends good message out to the society. The only thing I did not like in the entire film is that the filmmaker has shown Ahuti Prasad (father of the girl) as a bakra. Though the director has brought out the love story in an excellent manner, he might have forgotten that the boys and girls hostels will generally be separate and there won't be a chance for their union. At the same time though the character of Rao Ramesh helps in the nice movement of the story, he gives a wrong picture that lecturers encourage love between teenagers. Of course, there might be some such instances where the lecturers encourage the talented students in all respects. The director has appeared to have lost grip on the subject after the interval with some long scenes, they are unavoidable as to show how the lovers feel the separation. But for few lapses here and there, the minus points in the film are minimal. Coming to my rating statistics, my last 4 rated film was Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana (January 2005), my last 4.5 rated film was Bommarillu (August 2006) and my last 3.5 rated film was Happy Days (September 2007). Kotha Bangaru Lokam film deserves a rating of 4. Go, watch the film and pamper yourself.
