But in April 2008 a major humanitarian assistance mission named for Huang and his family put food and water on the tables of a desperate population. Months of hard fighting in the Abu Nawar area of Sadr City had disrupted the infrastructure and flow of staples.

LITTLE RIVER-ACADEMY - If walls could talk the concrete blocks that form the old Evans General Store in Little River-Academy could whisper a million tales of life in a small farming community nearly a century ago.
The building was a general store for more than 60 years. It spent nearly 15 years as a restaurant under two proprietors before reverting to a retail establishment again. But for the last few years it sat vacant slowly running downhill.

In 1856 he purchased 700 acres from his father-in-law in Nolan Valley west of current-day Belton. There he built a wood cabin. Family legend has it that Estes was gone from the homestead when Indians crept up on his cabin and burned it to the ground.

With talk about auto manufacturers declaring bankruptcy and consumers jittery about the national economy, owners of two area shops said some people are bringing their cars in for repairs instead of buying new ones. And, with dealerships closing, getting parts is going to take a lot longer.
B.K. Blair, owner of Jones Home and Auto Supply on Main Street in Belton, known by many locals as the Firestone Store, said he’s seeing a lot more maintenance.
