"Shiva Lingam" is one of India's most misunderstood topic. In this article Temple Science will decode the mysterious facts and scientific truth about Shiva Lingam. The shape of the Shiva Lingam represent the entire Universe. The secret of the Universe and root cause of the entire creation is hidden behind the image of Shiva Lingam.
In Sanskrit “Lingam” represents “Symbol” or “Sign”. Unfortunately other language defines it as a stylized phallic symbol. Due to lack of proper sagacity some people themselves understanding Shiva lingam as the phallic symbol and they also give fabled information to other people.

Even the misunderstanding was in so high that some kings of medieval India established Shiva Lingam in an identical shape of phallic symbol.

Some historians claim Curving at temple walls like this are done only after Buddhism came
and people started going forest so creation needed.

I personally think this misinterpretation was being widely propagated by some egoistic Buddhists to deform the essence of the science of spirituality. We know in Buddhist era the Sanskrit and the Vedic texts turned out to be insignificant in Ancient Bharat. This was the time span when much of misinterpretations on vedic texts had been done intentionally. But being the most liberal the Hindu society accepted the deformation.

There are different ways to realize God in Hinduism, which suggests that Hinduism is liberal and does not have strict values. Individual Hindus, according to their personality, worship the supreme consciousness.

Actually obscenity is in our heart, for which we find that same obscenity in everything. Lord Shiva is portrayed as emerging from the lingam —the cosmic pillar of eternal energies. This is called Lingodbhava. The Linga Purana also emphasizes this understanding of lingam as a cosmic pillar, symbolizing Shiva's infinite source of divine consciousness.

Now its time to know what the real essence of Shiva lingam is and how misconceived it is to confuse the Hindus. Sanskrit is the mother of all languages. It is not only the oldest language but also the flag carrier of Indian culture. This is not only the Indian, but the root of ancient languages of the world. Experts believe all languages spoken in today’s world are originated from Sanskrit.

That is why I often say Sanskrit is the ocean of vocabularies and its very difficult to identify the each words according to the sense of their utilisations.

For example, If we take a word "Sutra" in Sanskrit, It has various meaning, “सूत्र “ (Sutra) can be used as thread, mathematical formula, clew and subject of writing.

Similarly, the meaning of the word "अर्थ " (Arth) can also be: wealth, substances, amount, significance or meaning.

Lingam implies a “Symbol” or “Sign” in Sanskrit. Thus the Shiva Lingam is a symbol of Lord Shiva. Or a sign that recalls the formless infinite supreme consciousness.

Shiva has no parallel word in any other language. But we can choose one nearest word of Shiva which is “Nothingness”, so literally Shiva means “Not That” Now the meaning of Shiva Lingam is a symbol of Nothingness.

Literally In Nirvana Shatakam Sri Adi Shankaracharya established the true sense of Shiva,

मनोबुद्ध्यहङ्कार चित्तानि नाहं
न च श्रोत्रजिह्वे न च घ्राणनेत्रे ।
न च व्योम भूमिर्न तेजो न वायुः
चिदानन्दरूपः शिवोऽहम् शिवोऽहम् ॥१॥

Meaning:
1.1: Neither am I the Mind, nor the Intelligence or Ego,
1.2: Neither am I the organs of Hearing (Ears), nor that of Tasting (Tongue), Smelling (Nose) or Seeing (Eyes),
1.3: Neither am I the Sky, nor the Earth, Neither the Fire nor the Air,
1.4: I am the Ever Pure Blissful Consciousness; I am Shiva, I am Shiva,
The Ever Pure Blissful Consciousness.

The worship of different types of Shiva Lingams were not limited to India, Nepal, Cambodia, Indonesia and Sri Lanka alone. The Romans who were the first to introduce the worshiping of Shiva Lingam to European nations. Shiva Linga was termed Prayapas by Romans, most probably the term “Prayapas” was the wrong pronunciation of “Pashupati” or “Prajapati” because Lord Shiva is also known as Prajapati Shiva.

The archaeologists found Shiva Lingams in Babylon, and ancient Mesopotamia.

In addition, the archeological results in Harappa-Mohanjo-daro, which gave rise to countless statutes of Shiva Lingam, revealed the presence of a highly evolved culture long before the immigration of the Aryan (Though I personally do not believe in Arayn immigration theory).

Generally there are 6 types of Divya Lingam and 2 types of Shiva Lingam available in India,

one in natural form of black meteorite in oval-shaped and other is man made by cutting and polishing granite or solidifying mercury (Which is an ancient Vedic science) according to the design and procedure mentioned in Agama Shahstra.

The Lingam as a Symbol of Creation:

The ancient scripture Linga Purana says that the foremost Lingam is devoid of smell, color, taste, etc., and is spoken of as 'Prakriti' or Nature itself.
According to Swami Vivekananda the Lingam became symbolic of the generative source of eternal Brahman or the sign of infinite cosmic energy in post-vedic era.

The Linga is like an egg and represents the 'Brahmanda' (Brahm+Anda) or the cosmic egg or hiranyagarbha.

Hinduism says, the Shiva Lingam is the symbol of Nothigness which later manifested as the Universe. According to Hindu Science the hiranyagarbha or the cosmic golden egg came from infinite Shiva Lingam. Now coincidentally the modern scientists are referring an image of our Universe which is exactly the mirror image of hiranyagarbha (Cosmic egg) or Shiva Lingam.

Shiva Lingam represents the shape of entire cosmos. By decoding the data gathered by NASA’s WMAP (Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe measured the fluctuations in the cosmic microwave background radiations) satellite Italian scientists proposed a overall shape of our Universe. Which is just a mirror image of ellipsoidal or egged shaped natural Shiva lingam or generally called “Bana lingam” available in the bay of Narmada river. The 4 Parts of a Shiva Linga:

Siva Purana describes Lingam formation as a infinite light pillar.

Siva Linga consists of three parts, the lowest of which is called the Brahma-Pitha which contains the attribution of creating the universe,' the middle being the' Vishnu-Pitha' that preserves the creation, and the highest being the' Siva-Pitha ' which destroys the creations to maintain the proper balance of the Universe.

Shiva is the owner of both Tama Guna and Satta Guna, though Shiva is Nirguana. Shiva is Tamaguna in the sense he destroys the creations, but the devastating the creation He is creating a new by making the soul free from body.

The forth part is the ring of Shakti, the dynamic power that makes the unborn born, that provides infinite forms to the formless, that creates motions and that can stop a moving one.

Kindly recall the portrait of Vishnu, a lotus is depicted as arising from the navel of Vishnu and Brahma is shown as seated on the lotus.

The top most portion of the Shiva Ligna, or better if you see the Picture of the timeline diagram of the Universe, is the Navel of Sri Vishnu (Singularity and the “Primordial or Quantum Fluctuation” ) and Stem of the Lotus is the “Inflation” portion, the Lord Bramha represents the portion of “ Cosmic Microwave back ground”

The portion of “Dark ages” is the portion signifies “Yoga Maya” , the rest part continuing up to the end (Today) is Lord Narayana.

But in any time these three modes are active as somewhere in universe new births, life spans and deaths are happening simultaneously.

That means the entire universe is acting as Lord Brahma when new planets or stars are coming into existence, Lord Narayana because Universe continuing to expanding still, (Lord Narayana acts as an supreme operator ) and Lord Rudra too because every second cosmic objects or living creatures are facing the dissolution.

World's first Zero in an Interesting and Mysterious Bakhshali Manuscript - Ancient Indian Mathematics:

The Bakhshali Manuscript, is an ancient mathematical manuscript, important, interesting, with a touch of mystery, and at the same time fascinating too.

Bakhshali Manuscript has been recognized by Oxford University as the world’s first recorded utilization of the numerical symbol for zero, Five hundred years earlier than suspected.

It was previously thought that the earliest documented instance of using zero was a ninth-century inscription on a wall in a Gwalior temple, India.

Discovery:

The manuscript was found in 1881 in the village of Bakhshali of undivided India, but now in Pakistan. The first research on the ancient manuscript was done by A. F. R. Hoernlé,

(German-British Orientalist),after it was unearthed from a field.

Oxford's Bodleian University and The Manuscript:

This ancient and important historical manuscript, was written on birch tree bark, therefore making it very fragile. But preserved as best as possible, at a constant temperature, and low humidity, in the Bodleian Library, of the University of Oxford. The manuscript is written in seventy leaves of bark, it is about different kinds of equations, like quadratic, linear, second degree, and indeterminate equations.

A mathematics professor at Oxford, Marcus du Sautoy, said,

“We now know that it was as early as the third century that mathematicians in India planted the seed of the idea that would later become so fundamental to the modern world "

Also has explanations about arithmetic, algebra, and geometry problems. Beautiful in its own right, as mathematics is. It is interesting how the mathematical problems were written. The author wrote the problems in verse, after solved, and explained, this was written in prose, by using this innovative way, it is easier to remember, and understand, all this important and useful.

Carbon Dating:

There is some degree of disagreement as to when these manuscripts were originally written. Carbon dating of different portions of the manuscripts suggested three different centuries, sometime between AD 224–383, 680–779,and AD 885 to 993, results from radiocarbon dating of other portions.

A slight mystery is how pieces of this manuscript from different centuries were added together, perhaps, leaves from the manuscript were preserved through the centuries, and more were added.

Interesting facts about the Bakhshali Manuscript:

It seem that probably, its original author was, Chajaka's son, (a "king of calculators," for the use of Vasiṣṭha's son Hasika ) a Brahmin.

In the manuscript a dot inside a circle, Sunya, or bindu, was a way to represent zero, at that time, and could be one of the oldest representation of zero. Even older than the one in the Gwalior Temple in M.P. The manuscript also includes quotes from the Hindu Scriptures, square roots, arithmetic, and geometrical progressions, and measurements.

Hundreds of zeroes were discovered in the text,the idea of the symbol as we now

understand and use it

originated as a small dot, commonly used as a 'placeholder' to describe magnitude

instructions in the ancient scheme of Indian numbers – for reference 10s, 100s, and 1000s. It features prominently in the manuscript of Bakhshali, commonly recognized as the oldest

Indian document of mathematics.

The fact that the Bodleian Library kept the manuscript not available to other scholars has made a great difference in the study of this fascinating manuscript as made. It seems through the years even different times local languages had been added, from Sanskrit to local languages.

Due to the fragility of the leaves, it is not easy for this important manuscript to be really examined, and studied. We hope this great manuscript will be preserved for many future generations.

Well, Participatory Universe confirms the observer is not separate from the object observed. That means observer is one of the major cause of any real phenomenon.

So, can we say the entire Universe is vibrating in a continuous string of infinite phenomenon....?? Maybe the objects manifests instantaneously once the observer observe it.

Universe an Quantum Foam:

John Archibald Wheeler devised a concept of quantum foam; a theory of “virtual particles” popping in and out of existence in space (similarly, he conceptualized foam as the foundation of the fabric of the universe).

According to Gribben and Rees,

“..our Universe is, indeed, just one bubble among many in some greater meta universe.”

Where Scientist Michio Kaku considers that,

“...these Universes might be compared to the vast collection of soap bubbles suspended in air”

"यत् पिण्डे तद् ब्रह्माण्डे |
यद् ब्रह्माण्डे तत् पिण्डे" ||

Pronunciation:
( YATHA PINDE TATHA BRAHMANDE ,

Meaning:

"Although I'm such a pin-head, I'm just like the whole Universe and beyond (Brahman),
or "As is the individual, so is the universe, as is the universe, so is the individual",
such as "As is the atom, so is the Universe"
or "As is the human body, so is the Cosmic Body"
or "As is the Microcosm, so is the Macrocosm",
and as "As Above, So Below".

Little tough to imagine the concept.

The Consciousness,Illusion and Bhagvada Gita :

Carl Sagan once said, “the cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the Universe to know itself.”

So, here the point is we are the Universe.

But who we are?? The body?? The nervous system?? The brain ?? or the combination of these stuffs ??

.The so described Aatman (Soul) cannot be harmed by weapons - and since it is formless and shapeless - fire cannot burn it or destroy it. Water cannot wet it because water can only act on elements which have a physical description or dimension.
The five forces of nature which are capable of destroying physical elements by their combined actions have no influence on the aatman.

It has no taste , no colour, no self desire, can’t harm anyone.
Its beyond of Kal (Time) – Sthan (Space) - Sthiti (Stability) - Gati (Velocity) .
Its the “Sunnya” (Zero) itself but the Brahmand (Infinite Universe) too.
That is why it is referred to as nitya or permanent or unchangeable. This permanence gives it the powers of omnipresence, omniscience and stability. It is this stability that gives it the quality of immovability and the Atman is called Sanatana (hinduism is also referred to as sanatana dharma ). Sanatana literally means - that which is not created or destroyed - it belongs to time immemorial.

Since It is beyond the range of form or thought and the changes that affect the mind, life and body do not touch him. Forms may change; things may come and go but that which remains behind them all is for ever.

Yes, In one word “Consciousness”, In fact lower Consciousness (चेतना). Lower Consciousness (चेतना) experiences the Universe in through distinct objects, but when we acquire Higher Consciousness (चैतन्य/Chaitanya) we experience the entire Universe is an evanescent, fragile, and transient cosmic bubble, and the objects seemed to be distinct actually has no separation, all is one.

Quantum Illusion and Maya:

The cosmic Maya/ illusion is what makes Brahman the cause of this Universe. The individual Avidya (ignorance) is what makes the Atman circumscribed and delimited. So the Mahavakya, ‘Tatvamasi’ says that Brahman minus its Maya and Atman minus its Avidya are identical.

Brahman minus its Maya and Atman minus its Avidya are identical.

Now I think you can perceive the essence of Vedic Text – Bramhand Purana –

“You are the part of infinite Universe , the same Universe is within you” , as if There is a Room inside the same room , And the exit door of the room is the entrance of the another room looks like the same , and when your in the second room the first one does not exist. As the same the exit of the second room is the entrance of the third room, and when you’re in the third room there no other rooms exist at all....

All activity takes place in consciousness. If you want to point at where the stars are, there is no physical location, because consciousness isn't a "thing."

Thousands years old, Vedic Stotra reveals the secret of the Universe:

पूर्णमदः पूर्णमिदं पूर्णात्पूर्णमुदच्यते ।
पूर्णस्य पूर्णमादाय पूर्णमेवावशिष्यते ॥
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥

Meaning:

Om, That (Outer World) is Infinite (Full with Divine Consciousness); This (Inner World) is also Infinite (Full with Divine Consciousness); From Infinity is manifested Infinity (From the Fullness of Divine Consciousness the World is manifested),
Taking infinity from infinity, infinity indeed remains (Because Divine Consciousness is Non-Dual and Infinite),
Om, Peace, Peace, Peace.

Infinite Ocean of Consciousness:

To understand our true participation in the universe, we must learn much more about awareness and how it turns mind into matter and vice versa.

We know “Vishnu Purana” says the Universe is nothing but the Cosmic Divine Dream (“Yog-Nidra”) of Sri Vishnu, thats is Supreme Consciousness of Lord Vishnu. Discovering Entire Universe Within You - You are one with the Universe:

Hindu cosmology is a branch of different types of doctrines concluded on the subject of “Cosmic Creation”, here the word Manifestation is more appropriate instead of “Creation”.

First of all we need to Understand what is Creation, generally you understand it as an act of causing something new to happen or exist. So it is an Action. Now question rises Action on what ? General answer is Action on some ingredients, substances, components or elements. So, if the Universe is Created, there must be some pre existed components from which the Universe is being Created. Now, question rises again what is the sources of the pre existed components from which the Universe is made of....??

When almost every religious books are supporting the so called theory of Simple one man Creation, the most ancient philosophy, Hindu Cosmology, coined a term “manifestation”

(आविर्भाव, प्रादुर्भाव).

Hindu Cosmology says, the Causes behind the universe or "karanas" are isolated into two classes: "Nimitta" and "Upadana".

For example You need paper and colours as the materials to draw a picture. So Colours and paper are the Upadana Karanas (components Causes) for the Picture.

Be that as it may, how can it turned into a picture?

Does the colour become a picture without anyone else's input?

It must be formed by a painter. So the painter is the reason he is the Nimitta Karana.

Hinduism accepts that Isvara/ Supreme divine consciousness made the universe with a definitive particles called "anu-s" (Unique Cosmic Particle, that rests between existence and non existence, because the particles are neither sensible by five human senses nor by any other sensors, but the particles together formed the Universe which can be observed or sensed relatively).

Here Isvara or God is the Nimitta-karana and the "Anu-s" (Unique Cosmic Particle) are the Upadana-karana. Simultaneously, Hindu Cosmology ignores the question on the source of Upadana Karana (Cause of Components) confirming that the both Causes / Karanas ("Nimitta" and "Upadana") are same and identical. For an example, it means, an intelligence of Colour painted a painting on the paper of its own colours.

"Sat" that which exists in reality and "asat" that which does have existence . There is no picture in mere colour and paper. The non-existent picture is produced from the colour and paper. It is in same way that Supreme divine consciousness manifested the universe with the "anu-s", where the Eternal supreme Consciousness itself exfoliated into the “Anu-s” (Upadan Karana)

In Hinduism you can’t find identical God that governs the universe like a one man king.

Prakriti and Purusha are the two distinct parts of Nirguna Brahman, (nirguna in the sense of which is beyond of any kind of properties, Brahman= Eternal supreme Consciousness ) known as Isvara.

Prakriti and Purusha take part, direct and actualize the widespread innovative procedure of Universe. Prakriti implies what is found in its regular, unaltered structure. Prakriti regulates the formation of Universe with its pure energy.

Brahman or the supreme consciousness that gets under way the whole innovative procedure with the assistance of His two cosmic roles. Both Purusha and Prakriti are eternal reality of the cosmic manifestation. The presence of Purusha is the indirect cause of the Prakrti itself peeled into the universe. Purusha doesn’t have any direct involvement in the manifestation of the universe, but receiving the potential energy from him Pakriti manifests itself into infinite forms of matters and energies. Such a conviction isn't to be confused with the contemporary atheistic view.

For example, a fire can illuminate a dark room, the same fire can boil water, and can turn an ice block in to liquid water. Does the fire worry about which room is to be illuminated or which jungle is to be burnt up? The fire has no intension to evaporate water, or illuminate dark chamber. It is the light and temperature difference between the fire and heat consuming object for which the object receives the energy from the fire and react according to its dharma/physical or chemical property.

Similarly, Purusha doesn’t have any direct role to form the Universe, but it is the Prakriti that receives the potential energy from Purusha to manifests itself into form of Universe.

The Globular cluster that exists billions of light years away from Earth, have no reality without a spectator with healthy sensory system. Everything that makes Globular cluster real needs an observer. If no one existed to experience light, temperature, mass, and colours of the Globular cluster, it could not be real as we know it.

The reality and Existence require a reference. Suppose, in US here we can feel the heat of the Sun, but in same time in India people can see the moon with thousands of stars in dark sky. So, in same time reality splits into two opposite Truths, one is Day and other is night.

Can anyone say, which is absolute truth with the respect of Earth, Day or Night...?? Now when you observe the solar objects being out of the Earth, you will neither experience day not night. So, this is how Truth or reality depends on spectators, who can senses the effects of the incident through Conscious mind. In simple sentence Object has no existence without observer.

Participatory Universe:

American quantum physicist John Archibald Wheeler speculated that reality is created by observers in the universe. He coined the term "Participatory Anthropic Principle" which generally known as "participatory universe," according to which, the observer and the thing observed are one. You are one with the universe because you experience Nature in your consciousness.

The ten digits from 0 to 9 are known as the Indian-Arabic numerals or Hindu-Arabic number system. These numerals 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9- are used in most of the countries of the world.

Number System In Hinduism

In Vedic Era it was believed that Mathematics serves a connection between understanding material reality and perceiving the spiritual conception. Mathematics were often presented in a very different format by Vedic mathematicians. In 1017 he traveled to the Indian subcontinent and authored “Kitab Tarikh Al-Hind” (History of India) after exploring the Hindu culture as well as Vedic science accomplished in India. Al-Biruni,had visited India on several occasions and made comments on the Indian number system.

The number system was first developed in Ancient India, and then adopted by the Arabs in 9th century. It was initially known in the West as Arabic numerals, because Arabs introduced these numbers to Europe through Arabic texts in the 10th century. For some portions a carbon-date was proposed of AD 224–383. It contains the earliest known Indian use of a zero symbol. It is written in Sanskrit with significant influence of local dialects. The manuscript was unearthed from a field in 1881.

The first research on the manuscript was done by A. F. R. Hoernle. The manuscript is famously known as Bakhshali Manuscript.

Decimal System:

Basic principles like counting 1, 2, 3, etc. to zero, were based on Brahmi Numerals or Sanskrit figures. In ancient times, mathematics was mainly used in an applied role. Thus, mathematical methods were used to solve problems for architecture and constructing Temples, in astronomy and astrology and in the construction of Vedic altars.

Brahmi numerals:

Historians trace modern numerals in most languages to the Brahmi numerals, which were in use around the middle of the 3rd century BC. Even after Mahabharata era, the post holder Vedvyas continued to write Bhagwat Puran upto the era of Lord Jagannatha.

Columbia University Irving Medical Center‘s website says that,

“Think plastic surgery is a modern luxury? Think again. It turns out that the roots of cosmetic and reconstructive procedures go back more than 2500 years. It’s a common misconception that the “plastic” in “plastic surgery” refers to an artificial material when it actually derives from the Greek word, plastikos, meaning “to mold” or “to give form.”

The Sanskrit word Sushruta means, 'Su- well, and Shruta - informed', that is , 'a well informed or well learned person', According to Mahabharata Sushruta was a son of Sage Vishvamitra and decendent of Devodasa Dhanvantari, the king of Kashi a sacred Hindu place located in northern India, Varanashi. which coincides with the present recension of Sushruta Samhita. But Acharya Sushruta himself has not mentioned his birth place or proper introduction anywhere in Sushruta Samhita which create curiosity among various historical and ayurvedists. But he quoted south region of India.

The Sushruta Samhita documented the etiology of more than 1,100 diseases, the use of hundreds of medicinal plants, and instructions for performing scores of surgical procedures – including three types of skin grafts and reconstruction of the nose.

Father of Surgery:

“Father of Surgery”, Susruta was an Indian sage/ surgeon who wrote Susruta Samhita. The Sushruta Samhita is are the collections of the work of the Dhanvantariya sampradaya (ancient surgical school) of Ayurveda. Acharya Sushruta has a great contribution towards Ayurveda by giving such great literature, his principles, diagnoses and treatment retain their potency and truth even after a couple of millennia.

In the book, he is said to have described over 300 surgical procedures and about 120 surgical instruments (all his own inventions). He also classified surgeries into eight categories for a better understanding.

According to Asopa Hospital & Research Centre not only plastic surgery but also Cataract Surgery was first performed in India by Susruta. Susruta used a special tool called Jabamukhi Salaka which was used to loosen the lens and push the cataract out of the field of vision. The Asopa Hospital & Research Centre further claimed,The method of Plastic Surgery they used to performed dissimilar to the method we use today. In fact, some of the instruments and tools for surgery described in the book are still being developed in the 21st century.

the surgeries were so renowned that Greek philosophers and scientists travelled to India to observe these surgeries being performed by Susruta.

Nature of Composition - Sushruta Samhita:

The Sushruta Samhita is a huge treatise on ancient Indian medicine. It was written in Sanskrit Language. It is voluminous text composed in bothe prose and poetry form. Poetry was known to serve as a memory aid. In Sushruta samhoita consists of 186 adhyayas / chapters. Again the adhyayas / chapters are divided into 6 sthana / sections, Each sthana or section is further divided into numerous sub chapters.

Sushruta Samhita stands strongly as a representative of one branch of ayurveda known as Shalya Chikitsa (Surgery).

Plastic surgery is the unique contribution of Acharya Sushruta for which the whole world is indebted to him.

Acharya Sushruta has mentioned Five types of primary bones, They are , Kapala (Flat bones), Ruchaka (teeth), Taruna (young), Valaya (curved or irregular bones) and Nalaka (tubular bones)

Acharya Sushruta emphasizes in this text that he who studies any one science only, will not able to arrive at a correct decision, hence the physician should be know of relevant sister branches of science.

Surgical Instruments:

Acharya Sushruta has described 101 types of Yantras (blunt instruments) and 20 type of Shastras (sharp instruments). The unique classification of surgical instruments as Yantras and Shastras holds good even today. Human hand is considered to be the Pradhana Yantra ( most important instrument), because all the functions of the instruments are dependent on hand. Blunt surgical instruments are further divided in majore 6 categories.

India is considered to be the home of the earliest school of medicine.

Ayurveda, which means 'the science of life', is believed to be the earliest subject

of medicine. The ancient scholars of Ayurveda even achieved the process of

performing plastic surgery. Yes, it is believed that the plastic surgery was first

performed in ancient India. The Ayurveda which is originated in ancient India

more that 7000 years ago, and remains one of the world's foremost health care

systems.

The origin of Ayurveda is attributed to Atharva Veda, where the mention is made of

several diseases and their treatments. Its concepts about health and disease promote

the use of herbal compounds, special diets, and other unique herbal, Yogic and

spiritual health practice and discipline.

Ayurveda, the way of immortality

Dhanvantari is the Hindu god of medicine and an avatar of Lord Vishnu.

He is mentioned in the Puranas as the god of Ayurveda. He, during the Samudramanthan arose from the Ocean of Milk with the nectar of immortality.

It is common practice in Hinduism for worshipers to pray to Dhanvantari seeking his blessings for sound health for themselves and/or others, especially on Dhanwantari Trayodashi.

Ayurveda's two most famous texts belong to the schools of Rishi Charaka (300 BC) and Rishi Sushruta (600BC)

Rishi Charaka:

Charaka (300 BC) was one of the principal contributors to Ayurveda, a system of medicine and lifestyle developed in Ancient India. He is known for authoring the medical treatise, the Charaka Samhita. Charaka was resident of Kapisthal (now known as Jalandhar.) He is well known as the "Indian father of medicine". Charaka is said to have studied at the University of Ancient Taxila and practiced there.

His principles, diagoneses, and cures retain their efficiency and accuracy even after a couple of millennia. When the idea of anatomy was not even thought in Europe, Acharya Charak introduced the science of anatomy revealing through his innate genius and enquiries the facts on embryology, pharmacology, blood circulation and diseases like diabetes, tuberculosis, heart disease, etc.

The word Cheraka is said to be a "wandering physicians”. According to Charak's translation, health and disease are not predetermined and life can be prolonged by the effort of concentration and attention to life style. According to Indian heritage and Ayurvedic procedures, prevention of all types of diseases have a more prominent place than treatment, including restructuring of lifestyle to align with the course of nature and four seasons, which will guarantee complete wellness.

During the 6th Century BCE, an Indian physician Sushruta – widely regarded in India as the ‘father of surgery’ – wrote one of the world’s earliest works on medicine and surgery.

Siddha System:

The term 'Siddha' means achievements and 'Siddhars' were saintly persons who achieved results in medicine. Nandhisar is considered the first siddha and the guru of all siddhars; the siddha system is believed to have been handed over to him by Lord Shiva.

Generally Ayurvedic herbs were not available all year long. So, the Siddha saints came up with their own school, the Siddha medicines. Siddha medicines were made from a combination of everyday spices and fruits, metals, minerals and chemical products.

The Siddha science is a traditional treatment system generated from South India.According to Palm leaf manuscripts the Siddha system was first described by Lord Shiva to Mother Parvati. Mata Parvati explained all this knowledge to her son Lord Kartikeya or Muruga. He taught all this knowledge to his disciple sage Agasthya. Agasthya taught 18 Siddhars and they spread this knowledge to human beings.

Agasthya is believed to be the Father of Siddha Medicine. Siddhars believed that a healthy soul can only be developed through a healthy body. Men and women who dedicated their lives into developing the system were called Siddhars. They practised intense yogic practices, including years of periodic fasting and meditation, and were believed to have achieved supernatural powers. Through this spiritually attained supreme knowledge, they wrote scriptures on all aspects of life, from arts to science and truth of life to miracle cure for diseases.

Many of these medicines were also used to prevent bodies from decomposing, making it the first in the world to be used as a preservative.

Conclusion:

There are uncountable incredible contributions made by Ancient Indians in the history of Medicine. Even cataract surgeries, plastic surgeries , were first performed in Ancient India. The surgeries were so renowned that Greek philosophers and scientists travelled to India to observe these surgeries being performed by Susruta.

The Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy of the Government of India coordinates and promotes research in the fields of ayurveda and Siddha medicine. The Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), a statutory body established in 1971 under AYUSH, monitors higher education in areas of Indian medicine, including Siddha medicine.

Ahiravan or Mahiravan was Rakshas like Ravana. Both are the name of same Rakshahs only. He was bother of Ravana. During the battle of Ramayana, Ravana ask his brother's help in battle.

Ahiravan was able to take any roop ( form ). So he took the form of Vibhishan ( Ranava's another brother ) and went into tent were Sri Raam & Laxman were sleeping. Ahiravana took them to his kingdom in patal (city under ground)

Cloning Process

Vibhishana reveals about Ravana’s plans to bring in Mahiravana (Mairavana) into battle and kidnap Rama, Lakshmana.

After the awareness Hanuman decided to rescue Sri Raghunandan Ram and Laxman,
after arriving at Patal, Hanuman saw a fort secured by Demons.

Hanuman does not care. Having determined to enter the fort, Hanuman takes a miniature form just like a leaf of Shami tree and hid himself in the water pot brought by Durdandi.

Durdandi crossed the main gate. The balance tilted producing huge sound. Ugly demon guarding the main gate rushed to the spot but they could not see Hanuman who was in a miniature form.
Hanuman came out of the pot, enlarged his body and shining with great splendour stood erect before them like a mountain and killed the entire army of Mairavana very easily.

Hanuman fought with the brave warriors of Mairavana’s and killed the entire army.

but suddenly Hanuman saw a large shadow that was bravely coming towards him.........

He was Mairavana’s follower Matsya Vallabha, who looked similar to Hanuman, jumped into the field and attacked Hanuman. A fierce fight went between them. Both were fighting with equal fervour and valour, strength and splendour.

Matsya Vallabha continues “My mother Deerghadehi was originally a Gandharva lady. On account of a curse of Matanga Muni, she became a mermaid. When the Muni was begged for his pardon, he declared that she would be redeemed of her curse when She gets the blessing of Lord Hanuman and she begets a son.”

Hanuman is confused since he did not have any child, being an adept Brahmachari.

Matsya Vallabha continued , While searching for Sita, when Hanuman was crossing the ocean, he shook his sweat off his body, which fell into the sea.

(According to another, slightly different version, when Hanuman took a dip in the sea, to cool himself after burning Lanka; a drop of his sweat got discharged into sea, due to the extreme heat generated in his body and labor by Him)

The mermaid Deerghadehi swallowed a drop of Hanuman’s sweat. She became pregnant and gave birth to a son who is equal to Hanuman in strength and courage. I am her son and I am called Matsya Vallabha.

After my birth my mother Deerghadehi got redeemed of the curse. She left me near Mairavana and went to her abode.

But Here is Another Side of the Same Story: Scientific Explanations:

Hanuman blessed Matsya Vallabha

After listening to Matsya Vallabha’s narration, Hanuman revealed his identity. Matsya Vallabha at once prostrates before Hanuman. Hanuman blesses him heartily to beget eight virtuous sons and wished him happy and prosperous long life.

Matsya Vallabha wanted to take Hanuman to Mairavana.
But Hanuman rejects to go with Matsya Vallabha and leaves the place as he is in an urgency to rescue his Lord, Sri Rama.

Fight Between Hanuman and Mahiravana:

Hanuman entered the secret chamber of Mairavana. Hanuman with his fist hit the demon on the head and made him become unconscious. After some time he regained consciousness and began fighting with Hanuman strongly. In spite of his best efforts, Hanuman made Mairavana injured but could not kill him.

Durdandi , who was witnessing the fight told Hanuman ,
“O! Lord, this wicked Mairavana should not be allowed to live long. His life is in five insects and five candles which are hidden under a boulder.
If you crush the insects and blow out five different hiddden candles located in five different directions, all at the same time, he will die automatically”.

Durdandi thus revealed the secret of Mairavana’s life.

Hanuman assumed Panchamukhi or five-faced form to kill Ahiravana,

Hanuman took gigantic form and then he pressed Mairavana heavily under his left foot, stretched his right foot and removed the boulder with the toe and at once crushed the five insects moving under the boulder and assumed his five-headed form (Panchmukhi Hanuman) to blows out the five different candles and thus kills Mahiravana.

Hanuman freed Durdandi and her family by breaking open the shackles.

With the holy waters fetched by Durdandi, Hanuman crowned Neelamegha as the King of Patala Loka and blessed him to lead a righteous life. Hanuman blessed Matsya Vallabha and advised him to be a close associate of good-natured Neelamegha.
Hanuman carried Lord Rama and Lakshmana, who were in deep sleep, to their previous place and began guarding them as before.
