I don't have the time to administer the challenge, so have elected to use tools which you can administer yourself.

I have chosen to use Facebook as the primary tool to provide textual updates amongst the members of the challenge. You can post updates to the 10-in-10 Facebook page by just 'liking' the page at http://facebook.com/10in10Challenge

To record and track our actual weight loss progress, I have decided to use the fabulous free resource over at BuckeyeOutdoors.com. I have set up a weight loss challenge beginning on the 3rd January, which runs for 10 weeks with a goal of losing 10 pounds.I have created a weight loss challenge at : http://buckeyeoutdoors.com/training/challenges?cid=437

To track your weight loss progress, you just need to go in to your training log on the day that you weigh-in and then select 'edit the day details' (hover over icon in day cell). I'll be entering my initial weight on Jan 3rd, then on each subsequent Monday. As you update your weight, it will be reflected in the challenge.

Well, good look to everyone taking part - I'll see you on Facebook!

Nigel.

Glass is half empty?

So I got half way there - 5 lbs down...I could choose to be bummed out, or happy, so I'll take the latter.
If anyone want to continue on with a longer view in mind, go over to buckeyeoutdoors and join the 2010 weight loss challenge. I'm not done yet!
Weighed myself today and I'm three pounds down. BUT, that is over a week and a half. Don't get me wrong though. I'm over the Moon that it's still going the right way and I will be keeping up the challenge way past the 10 weeks. If I can lose another 10lbs or there abouts, which should leave me hovering around 185lbs, I will be a happy bloke.
I've been watching Eddie Izzards trek around the UK on the BBC. I am soooo inspired. How can someone without training just get up one day and decide he's going to run 43 marathons in 51 days? Just goes to show what the human body and mind can do. Then again, he is as mad as a bucket of frogs.
Will be updating 10 in 10 from Prague next week hopefully with another weight loss. Problem is - new country - new food. But, new running sites - bonus.

Disney Princess Half Marathon

While clad in a tiara (it's an unwritten rule that one must accessorize when running the Disney Princess half marathon), I completed my second half of the year yesterday and knocked four minutes and 35 seconds off my time in January. A new personal record! I'm down 2.2 pounds this week so I'm struggling with how to keep this momentum moving without using the race as an excuse to eat.

In regard to the race, I had some mental struggles during miles 1-2 wondering why I was doing this AGAIN. I’ve only had this self doubt and feeling of "Why do I run?" once during a long practice session months ago. By mile three, I was in love with the movement, the entertainment, and the chance to know I'm competing only against myself so improvement is the one goal. The first half of the race simply flew.

Unfortunately, I reached what I call the "no man's land" during miles eight and nine. That's the part of a race when I realize I'm truly on my own without entertainment, visual appeal, and the surrounding runners have also hit a low so conversations aren't giddy as they were while running down Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom. My body finally hit a wall with leg fatigue around mile 11 and I struggled to the very end. I also didn't cry when I crossed the finish line because it wasn't a shock that I completed another 13.1. I expected myself to make this second one in better time.

Fortunately, my recovery only took one day due to a new plan: low fat chocolate milk, stretching, professional massage, and allowing myself to take Tylenol after I ate a meal with protein. I feel NO pain, stiffness, or discomfort today. THIS is a HUGE accomplishment! So two halves down and two to go this year in my quest to complete four to celebrate my 40th year. Happy running, everyone! As always, thanks for this venue of support, Nigel!

Next to last weigh in

Ran yesterday for the first time (3.5 miles) since having pneumonia. Just about to go run today. Even though this is the next to last weigh in, I want to keep this going for another 10 in 10. right now I weigh just about what I did when I got married nearly 18 years ago. I want to break the 200 lb mark by May 20 (my 40th birthday). It would really feel good to be able to say that I weigh at 40 what I weighed as a kid in the Marines. Good luck to everyone!

Half Marathon on Sunday helped...

Run/walking the Bath Half Marathon with my daughter helped this week! Actually, I've reached what I think is my ideal weight. . . and the best part is that now I weigh what my driver's license says I weigh. I've lost a total of nine pounds in this challenge, so still could lose one more, but am thrilled that I've made it down to my goal weight so would be fine just staying here! That'll be the hardest part, of course--just staying right here! I'm trying not to get too excited and will continue to avoid the foods that I've been avoiding to be sure that I don't add the pounds back on.

Congratulations to everyone else who's met their goal, and to those who've lost weight and are still working toward their goals. Haven't ran since just before Valentine's since my present was pneumonia. I started back to work Monday also back to playing and coaching soccer. Thought I was getting sick again with a sore throat but realized that I am very vocal during soccer and I haven't been vocal for nearly three weeks. Have been doing yoga. Love the On Demand feature on cable, I get Exercise TV On Demand, go to the Yoga section and pick a video. Found one the seems like a good fit for running called Yoga Fitness Fusion and Sportskool offers Yoga for Runners (another good one) every once in awhile. Hopefully I'll be running again by last weigh-in. My ultimate weight loss goal will be to get under 200 lbs.

Same Old Story

Still on same weight for past two weeks. I've just finished my two week course and did manage to get some runs in on week one but only one in on week two and missed my long run. Ran 6.2 with the club last night and cycled in to work today. Will cycle in for next two days because I have physical safety training (fighting) and could do with not being too tired to defend myself. Friday I'm doing a fifteen mile mountain run in mid Wales with a couple of pals and will hopefully get some blog material. All that said. I just have not been able to get down to business and this past week a few vaca days in NYC didn't help! I was eating a lot of salads, grilled chicken and other good things but I did indulge in a couple of meals with friends that offset my good intentions. My running has been getting back into groove and that's good! I'll run off a pound or two before this contest ends but I need to continue and get 10 + off before summer hits. Thank you to all for sharing your stories, success and struggles - it all helps us all!
