So today and tonight, probably just light to moderate rain. Tomorrow though, heavier rains are likely, perhaps a few thunderstorms, and flash flooding could become a real problem. You should know the drill by now, if you've been following for a while. Main thing is just to never cross water that covers the road - really simple.

The tornado watch has been allowed to expire. We lucked out - just a lot of flooded roads - mainly in Cullman, Morgan, and Jackson counties now.

Our friends down in Central Alabama have been through hell this morning . . . again. Or at least it sure sounds that way. Daylight will tell. This ends my coverage. May post a forecast tonight, or maybe not. This stuff can be emotionally exhausting

Severe threat is basically over for us in the TN Valley, and tornado watch expires in 30 minutes. Only valid for northeast counties anyway, and odds are nothing is going to develop there. Still won't say "all clear" until it expires, just to be on the safe side. I guess we lucked out up

All right. The tornado warning was allowed to expire and was not renewed. Very marginal threat of severe weather in Northeast Alabama just a little bit longer, but there is a strong tornado believed to be affecting Chilton/Coosa Counties in Central Alabama. I'm handing that one off to www.alabamawx.com. I only tracked that storm from Tuscaloosa until it fizzled around Gadsden because I had an

The reports suggest this may even be a violent category tornado. Very sad for folks in Central Alabama. Lots of people are trapped. Take the utmost precautions in the path of this. This warning actually expires in about five minutes as I write this. Probably another tornado warning will be required soon. Storm has weakened some, but STILL . . . stay sheltered. It's not daylight . . . there's no

Wow . . . calling for all help available due to devastation back in Trussville, and also reports of major structural damage in St. Clair County. I think Gadsden is close enough to be considered a part of North Alabama, and this is a tornado emergency. Take your tornado precautions to the max for this one.

This is a life-threatening emergency for the areas outlined in this warning. For additional info, the stations I know of in Birmingham:

If you can, get into an underground shelter for this one. If you are well ahead of this storm like . . . they're even warning for Gadsden, well ahead of where the tornado is right now . . . might consider going to a public

Ok as of 4:01 just want to note, signature is still very strong as this moves off into St. Clair County - is not past Birmingham yet, mind you! And keep getting damage reports. I actually wrote more than this, but the internet connection blinked out and I had to redo it. Watch this live stream as well.

4:03 - It's past Gardendale, Fultondale . . . coming up on Tarrant, Center Point, Trussville

This warning has actually just been extended into Blount and St. Clair counties. This is probably a fairly strong, long-track tornado. Will post newer graphics in just a bit. I wouldn't cover this except that it looks very serious, and let's face it, nobody around there needs this!

Hate to say this, but we probably do have a fairly strong tornado headed toward Birmingham right now. You know somebody down that way, call them and WAKE THEM UP.

This is the live stream I would recommend.

Oak Grove is in the most immediate path of this tornado as I write this at 3:28. If we get really lucky, this thing will be just a rotation in the air. If it's on the ground (and it may

All right - technically not in our coverage area, but this is a fairly strong signature, still, and a tornado was confirmed earlier with this. Get to a small room or hallway on the lowest floor of a sturdy home/building. Protect your head. Pillows, blankets, even like a bike helmet - good ideas - especially if you have kids.

Excellent coverage from Brian Peters, James Spann, and Ashley Brand

Not sure why the tornado warning polygon (for Marshall/Jackson counties) is still showing up on the radar here - ignore it. It was allowed to expire. That same storm is now affecting Jackson and Dekalb counties as noted below, and it's probably producing damaging straight line winds. No tornado warnings in the Tennessee Valley now.

That one in Tuscaloosa County further south is for the northern

Wow - this thing ramped up quick, showing a hook even.

This is mainly a northern Marshall County storm. The extreme southeast tip of Madison county is included, and the southwest part of Jackson county is in the path if this thing holds together that long. Sirens are sounding in Huntsville - that's a coordination problem - this warning just barely clips SE Madison County, no threat to

All right, we have two distinct storms now - one moving out of Phil Campbell that will affect Mt. Hope and Moulton. That one shows a stronger wind signature, in my opinion.

The other storm is coming from a few miles northwest of Arab, heading for Union Grove and Grant.

Either of these storms may also produce large hail.

Also I note a flash flood warning around the Shoals, guess I'll go post that now.

And while I am shifting my focus only to North Alabama/Southern Middle Tennessee, I do want to note, Nashville is still under a tornado
