Shit, yeah, this is a thing that is hard to articulate. Some people don’t feel healed by forgiving the people who hurt them, because that’s what they kept doing over and over and it only led to getting more hurt. Sometimes you feel healed when you’re finally brave enough to say “This person was horrible to me, and I did not deserve that treatment, and I don’t have to be okay with it.”

The supernatural beings lurking in New Zealand capital Wellington are set to come out of the darkness once more in an upcoming TV spin-off to Taika Waititi’s mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows.

The procedural comedy series Paranormal Event Response Unit – conceived by Waititi and Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement, who played the 862-year-old vampire known as Vladislav in the 2014 hit – will follow naive police officers Karen and Mike (who had minors roles in the film) as they attempt to keep Wellington residents safe from all manner of mythical beasts.

Broadcast funding agency NZ On Air has granted $1 million towards making the six 30-minute episodes, which will screen on local channel TVNZ 2.

“Comedy is serious business and notoriously hard to get right. We are delighted that Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi are bringing their talents to smaller screens,” said NZ On Air boss Jane Wrightson, according to New Zealand web site Newshub.

A reminder that the “Borderline” in Borderline Personality Disorder does not mean someone barely has a personality disorder or that they’re almost neurotypical. The name “Borderline Personality Disorder” comes from the fact that the initial doctor to study it said suffers live on the border between psychosis (disconnection from reality) and neurosis (having anxiety, depression, or obsessive tendencies, etc that don’t quite cause disconnection from reality).

A follow up reminder that people with BPD are not “manipulative because they just want to be the center of attention”, they are often in a lot of distress that they don’t have the skills to handle and are often desperate to prove they’re worthwhile or prevent a potential abandonment.

Additional reminder there are some professionals who think it should be recategorized from a personality disorder to a type of PTSD, because tbh it is really really similar on a lot of levels.

The only reason borderline isn’t considered a form of PTSD (other than physicians hating people with borderline) is because it’s possible for it to manifest without trauma, though it (to my knowledge) is usually trauma-related

This is such a good description of what it means to be Borderline. Trying to be close to someone like this only hurts you. Don’t do it!!

Ways men opt out of housework and childcare by “helping out”

take on weekly or monthly tasks, and think it’s equal to their wives daily tasks (even when wives also have weekly and monthly tasks)

take on tasks that require very little time or hard labor, like mowing the lawn.

take on a “project” that could be fixed by a professional, and work on it little by little but never really finish

create chores for their children, i.e. delegate rather than doing

do housework only in tandem, i.e. never on their own or without help.

volunteer on their own for some disliked task. For example, cleaning the toilets without asking. unfortunately, this tends to be seen as very loving and exceptional. Often it will be used as an excuse not to do anything else

enthusiastically volunteer to do things often, then conveniently “forget”, “make plans”, or have some sort of weird parameter to get started. When wife or child does it instead, claim they were going to do it, really!

pick a jurisdiction they already enjoy, like “take care of dog” or “the yard”

do something really badly, so that someone else has to do it for them anyway afterwards

“tidy up” a mess they made

pick up or organize clutter, however the often stressful, emotional, and time consuming task of de-cluttering is left undone or for someone else

meticulous keep clean a space that is only theirs, i.e. their study, their garage.

create tasks that aren’t needed, like “organize the toolbox” or “rearrange the bookshelf”

do tasks that require prep work that their wives will do for them (i.e. grilling the food, but not planning, purchasing, seasoning or preparing the sides)

take control of “finances” but do very little, perhaps the taxes. this is also used as a way to control their wives often

use their time with their children to play or dole out discipline/lessons, but very little time on feeding/bathing/dressing or organizing their lives. this is also away men can create a “fun parent/mean parent” dynamic

make lists of what needs to get done, discuss what needs to get done with their wives, act very invested in the housework, take on a “manager” role in the housework, but do very little of it

tell wives that what little is done in the house, by either of them, is “enough” and that he “doesn’t care” what the house looks like (this is a l i e). i.e. doing little and then making an emotional appeal that it’s fine, co-opting the emotional labor his wife does for him, but actually it’s very manipulative

getting involved with children’s after school activities, i.e. being a coach, organizing a concert, etc. often a thing he already enjoys. often does very little of the organizing/plan making. often makes little effort to create time for his wife’s personal interests

pay attention to your fathers, brothers, uncles, grandfathers, boyfriends, husbands actions. you’ll start to see these constantly

Even good men do this. It’s unacceptable.

There’s a phrase for some of this. It’s called “strategic incompetence” and it’s the phenomenon of pretending to be too bad at a task to complete it, forcing the person who cares more about it to complete it. It’s gross.

Tristan sleep walking

Had a scary experience tonight. Was watching a show with Maranda and Kieran came to our door reporting that Tristan had left the bedroom. Tristan had been asleep so we told him that he was probably in our room. Kieran came back and reported that he wasn’t in our room.

Tristan tends to sprawl in many different places each night on his floor or ours, so we weren’t concerned and told Kieran to go back to bed. (Later Kieran told us he was reporting he heard Tristan go out the front door which we apparently didn’t hear through the closed office door).

A few minutes later I heard a loud wailing coming from outside and immediately realized it was Tristan. I ran to the front door just as he came into the house. We were all in complete shock and it took a few moments to figure out what was going on and that he had sleep walked outside.

After we all held each other a while in our bed he told us that he woke up in his car seat. Sure enough, Maranda later found his favorite blanket he sleeps with each night in his car seat.

Tristan was fast asleep in a few minutes and likely won’t remember much tomorrow. Mommy and Daddy on the other hand are sporting a few new grey hairs and won’t forget this anytime soon.

Ugh……. Front door will be locked at bedtime from now on!
