No, this unconvincingness is because of the lack of depth on the monitor, not the blurriness or any else. if the LCD was a 3d one and you had the craziness to make a 3d model as your background, this will work.

But a flat LCD screen has no depth. As soon as you move your head, the picture moves, and there is no 3d.

unless, they make an lcd screen with a transparent back. that would be cool! though how they would display black pixles would be a problem...

Well as a Delaware native maybe I can shed some light on the Dewey Beach reference and the underlining homophobic discourse that gives meaning to the statement. In Delaware, Dewey Beach has been a popular destination for the gay population in the surroundings area since at least the time i was a kid (25 years). In addition to a famous "gay beach", Dewey has a number of bars and restaurants that are gay friendly and or gay owned. The remark what happens in Dewey stays in Dewey is obviously an allusion to "down low" behavior by supposedly straight men, or men who are straight but enjoy deviating from their normal sexual behavior. Either way the statement further stigmatizes and marginalizes homosexuality and assumes that there is something deviant or deprave in engaging in sexual acts with the same sex. This is not surprising i guess given the homophobic society we live in.

I'm sure I could invent a lot of treknobabble to cover the Tamarese-A/B problem. For instance suppose you're correct, and these two languages exist, but the C-of-T are only capable of *vocalizing* the B track? (or else Track A could be carried electromagnetically or something weird like that). Or recalling the suggestion that such a language would last only one generation: perhaps the Federation, over one or two hundred years, has only *seen* one generation (they could be very long lived, like tortoises!)? And in another hundred years or so, we'll encounter an entirely different system of allusions to strange things that happened in the last hundred years?

Just sayin' is all. Cheers!

Ooh, Tigger! You've come THIS close to one of my favorite bugbears as a recovering Language Maven---the way so many Americans say the Nazi Minister of Propaganda's name to rhyme with "gerbils". I've always suspected that originated in some helpful Englishman having written "Gerbels" as a pronunciation aid (what do you call that kind of dialect-dependent pseudo-phonetic spelling?), which, when said in RP, is pretty close to the way a native speaker of German would say the name, but when said by most Americans has an "r" that shouldn't be there.

Re: the "the" appended to your ... name: have you read To Live Forever by Jack Vance? It's a great short story and amusingly relevant to the whole idea constellation of academic degrees, social status of those who earn them, and how to address them. Check it out!

yes, the song stuck for years - but I also memorized the phone number advertised with it .... by the way they stupidly changed that number -I know it still today 1-800-228-9800, what do I do with it ? I can't seem to forget it matter how much I try! Thanks Mutual of Omaha-

Considering the age of this post, this comment may be a bit late, but here goes:

Blu-Ray won the HD war for home video. Earlier model LCD and DLP projectors both had their own problems. With LCD projectors there was a "screen door" effect due to the distance between the pixels. DLP projectors occasionally had a rainbow blur that happened. For the most part these problems have been cleared away.

I've been able to do an alveolar trill without practice or effort (lucky me). I'm Australian, so I wasn't born into it, but after hearing it in a song I tried it. A few minutes later I annoyed the hell out of siblings by letting loose a loud trill.

I don't really know how I do it, but I've found that if you try to force it it comes out really hoarse and jarbled. If you fail at first, just remember to keep it relaxed. Stop for a while if you become too frustrated. None of my family can get it right though.... Ah well, I'm pretty special (rolls eyes at self)
