Rhode Island Newborn & Family Photographer

Are you pregnant and due with a baby within the next couple of weeks? Or do you know of someone who is pregnant and due by mid/end-March? If so, I am looking for a few newborns to photograph. I have received a bunch of new props and posing tools that I would love to test out. While this isn’t a completely FULL newborn session, I will take one family photo before focusing on your little one. <3

Requirements:
~ baby MUST be less than 2 weeks old

~ must be willing to sign a model release form allowing me to post images/BTS videos on ALL social media accounts

What do YOU get out of this?
~ Session fee completely waived ($250)

~ up to FREE 3 digital files to save and print as you would like

~ highly discounted files if you would like more than the 3 free ones (however, there is NO obligation to purchase anything if you only wanted the 3 images)

Email me for more info. Pssst! I’ll be doing a model call for boy/girl twins in the next few months too so if you know of anyone who meets those requirements, feel free to pass along this info!

I’ve known this adorable family for many years now. I started photographing them when this mama was pregnant with their first daughter and now, 3 months ago, I met their newest addition to their family! And just how sweet are they all?! Big sis couldn’t have been more proud and I just love how personable and happy she is! This family is seriously the nicest and sweetest. I always know I’ll have a wonderful time when they are coming to the studio.

This family is part of my Baby Plan families so I get to see and photograph them every 3 months! I’m so excited to see Miss *K* reach all her milestones in front of my lens. <3 I mean, does my job get any cooler?

Here’s just a handful of my favorites from her newborn session. Her 3 month session is coming up next week so be sure to stay tuned for more photos!

Growing up in today’s world, as a mom with two teenagers and a soon to be tween (even though I have 3 boys), I truly think childhood is so much harder these days than when we were growing up. Don’t you think? The whole purpose of these sessions is to empower these young ladies, give them a few hours of pampering, catering to them and to truly show how beautiful they are. Creating a whole little world for JUST them, even if it’s only for a short time.

I’ve known this adorable pup’s family for a few years now. They are the sweetest family and their little girl is just too darn cute! Mom’s name is Stephanie.

I LOVE spending time with this family as their little girl is just the happiest kiddo and adores having her photos taken. To see her interact with her new puppy was such a great experience to witness. A puppy and a child together….seriously. Does it get any better than that?! It’s a LOT of work but the rewards and memories are priceless! And just WAIT until you see the personality on this handsome furball.

Here are questions that I ask the families and the stories of their beloved fur-babies. Learn where they came from, how far they’ve come and just how amazing these dogs are! And in return, items are donated to a local rescue to help other beloved dogs & cats find homes. The items donated from this session was to Little Rhody Rescue and Quarantine Inc.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you….

Roscoe’s Rescued Me Journey…

ME: What is your furbaby’s name and age? How long have you had him/her?
STEPHANIE: Our furbaby is Roscoe. He is just turning 5 months, born on approximately February 24, 2020! We have had him since May 23, 2020.

ME: Did you keep his name that they had before he was rescued? What made you choose his name?
STEPHANIE: His name was Bourbon, however we changed it to Roscoe. Scott always loved the name for the dog. Sophia, our four year old daughter, was in charge of his middle name.
ME: Why is rescuing so near and dear to your heart?
STEPHANIE: Rescuing is near and dear to our heart because we are animal lovers. We know there are far too many animals out there who unfortunately, especially in the south, wander the streets and/or land in a shelter to face an unfortunate fate. Nothing gives us more satisfaction than knowing we helped to save one of those babies’ lives. Also, and most importantly, we had a lab mixed named Lonee for nearly 11 years, he passed one week shy of his 11th birthday. The years we had him were some of the best years of our lives. He provided us with the most love a person could ever ask of a dog. Anyone that met him loved him. Through the entire time he blessed us with his presence we vowed that we would always rescue our future pups so we were able experience the love, laughter and companionship he gave us.

ME: How did you know Roscoe was the one for your family?
STEPHANIE: On our daughter’s birthday, it was about a month into our search for our new furbaby. I saw the post from Arkanpaws randomly in the middle of the night when I woke up and was trying to fall back to sleep. I saw the post with Roscoe and his brothers and thought they were an adorable litter of pups. Being that due to quarantine the number of pet adoptions, particularly puppies, were through the roof, I thought for sure he would be adopted by morning. By the time I looked again at noon the next day, I was shocked to see they were still available. When I showed Scott the litter he immediately noticed Roscoe. Although we saw a few dogs previously that made our “heart skip a beat,” and unfortunately fell threw due to a large number of applications, he definitely struck us as one that could definitely complete our family.

STEPHANIE: It seemed as if Roscoe felt at home from the moment he arrived. Aside from needing to recuperate from the 24hr + journey from Arkansas, he made himself comfortable and became pretty comfortable with his surroundings! His crate is used as his safe spot with toys, but he seems to like it anywhere where there are people. He is getting used to every day objects such as mops and vacuums, and makes sure he barks and investigates as these items are being used!

ME: Describe what Roscoe’s temperament and personality is like. What’s their favorite thing to do? What is something that they do that makes you laugh? Do they have a strange habit that just makes them unique?
STEPHANIE: Roscoe is extremely energetic, loving and MISCHIEVOUS! He purposely tries to steal shoes, toys, etc., to get the thrill of having us trying to chase him down to get it back. One habit he does have is that any time we need to raise our voice to tell him no or stop doing something, he runs full speed doing laps throughout our entire first floor. Nothing, not even a treat, settles him down until he decides it’s enough! Although we cringe we always have a good laugh because this habit has almost become predictable!

ME: If you could try to convince someone who was on the fence about rescuing, what would you say to them? How has it changed you and your lives?
STEPHANIE: We are firm believers of rescuing almost to the point people probably find it obnoxious! But we have never experienced such love from a dog than we did our first rescue, as well as from Roscoe, even in the short time we have had him. We both agree it’s almost like they know we saved their life so their mission in life is to provide unconditional love, companionship and loyalty. It really is amazing what they provide in their life, and because of that, rescuing is the only option for us when we decide to add a furbaby to our family!

Here are questions that I ask the families and the stories of their beloved fur-babies. Learn where they came from, how far they’ve come and just how amazing these dogs are! Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you….

Snowy and Prince’s Rescued Me Journey…

ME: What are the ages and names of your fur-babies? How long have you had him/her?
CHRISTINE: Prince will be 17 years old in August and we have had him since he was 6 weeks old. Snowy is 13 years old. We got him at the North Attleboro animal shelter after the pet store had closed. He was 12 weeks old and I was really lucky to get all his papers. Snowy was very mellow when we saw him and just fell in love with him. He was great with my kids who were younger at that time.

ME: Do you know what breed(s) your furbaby is?
CHRISTINE: Prince is a tuxedo domestic short haired cat. Snowy is a pure bred Westie.

ME: Why is rescuing so near and dear to your heart?

CHRISTINE: I feel rescuing is so dear to my heart especially for cats because the shelters are so over packed with them and they had an adoption day at Petco and Prince just stole my heart. Later we found out his mother rejected him and half his tail was broken at birth during delivery so he has no feeling at the end of his tail.
For Snowy, they where ready to ship off to another kill shelter and he was so sweet, and still is, just like so many other poor animals in the shelter. I will always go there first because some people just don’t give them a chance or their owners pass away and they are left in this small cage, wondering what they did wrong, when it wasn’t their fault at all.

ME: How did you know he/she was the one for your family?

CHRISTINE: Prince came up to me immediately and was such a love. I knew he was the perfect addition to our family with 2 young kids. He adjusted great! It was Smokey that took a couple of weeks before they became inseparable.
For Snowy, I went to the shelter first when the kids where in school and he was only 12 weeks old and the first one to come running up to me and had a very good temperament. He was on the calmer side and friendly and loved to snuggle. When the kids got out of school I bought them back to the shelter to see how he was with them and he was the same way. Snowy actually ended up being a service dog for my son who is high function Asperger.

ME: Describe what the adjustment period was like for your animals(s) once they came to your home. What was their fear? How long did it take them to overcome the uncertainty (if any)? What was their safe space or what made them feel safe?
CHRISTINE: Snowy adjusted really well and was very easy to train. He has a very laid back temperament and not a care in the world you can do just about anything to him. He was so easy to train.
Prince fit in really easy at the time. I had another cat Smokey who was a month older then Prince, so he followed Smokey and did everything that he did. The two became inseparable until Smokey’s untimely passing when he was 10 years old. Prince picked up the litter box very quickly and adjusted very easy. He was the first cat to come running up to us so purring and rubbing up against us. He was about 7 weeks old and will be 17 years old this month. We had a husky before so they where used to dogs but when Smokey passed (he was “the boss”), there was about 3 months of back and forth who was going to be in charge and some fights until Snowy backed down. Now Prince will be sleeping or laying on the couch and Snowy will walk by and he will swat him then curl back up leaving Snowy confused. LOL

They are both pretty laid back and easy going although Snowy can get very anxious. Snowy is a sweet easy going mamma boy but gets very anxious with loud unfamiliar noises. He is what I would say too friendly. If I ever got robbed, he would show them where all the good stuff is (that’s the joke in the family). He has always been that was but his anxiety has gotten worse with age. We put classical music on for him when we leave to help relieve some of that. Prince has always been laid back, but is now demanding more and more of my attention by getting his love me like belly rubs ( yes a cat that love belly rubs), head, neck and butt scratches.

ME: If you could try to convince someone who was on the fence about rescuing, what would you say to them? How has it changed you and your lives?

CHRISTINE: If I had to convince someone to adopt a pet at a shelter rather then a breeder, I would say that usually at a shelter they have a better screening and temperament where as at a breeder you really never know. A lot of times they inbreed or have puppy mills. Plus the animals at the pounds are usually so much better with their temperament and most likely you are saving a life to a wonderful pet that will love you unconditionally!

Every day there are new things that make me laugh and so many things like sitting on the couch like a human for Snowy or when you can have a full conversation with Prince and his answers are right on! I really can’t even pick one. They have definitely stole my heart and everyone else who has meet them. They have there own personality, for sure, that no other pet could ever replace!

I first met Mona’s mom last year when a photographer friend of mine and I put out a model casting call for an expecting mom, as we wanted to do a pretty, snow maternity session.

I have not yet blogged about them, but recently, I’ve been a part of The Front Steps Project in Rhode Island where a bunch of us RI professional photographers, while practicing OVERLY safe social distancing, went to families homes and photographed a portrait of them in front of their homes (while us photographers stayed either in our cars or by the road, using a telephoto lens). With them receiving a free photo, they in turn purchased a gift card to any local small business of their choice, to help the community during this crazy Covid-19 time. Just the photographers in our group (there were about 8 or 9), with this project, we were able to help raise $25,000 from all the small businesses the families selected to support. How AMAZING, right?!

Anyways, back to Mona. Mona’s mom contacted me to do a Front Steps Project portrait for her kids and mentioned that sweet Mona was a rescue. So of COURSE, we had to some photos of her in her yard for the Rescued Me series. She was a little timid at first, happily wagging her tail but staying near her family. I think she may have been a little leary of my camera as well. But still practicing social distancing, she came around and I think we got some great images of her.

Here are questions that I ask the families and the stories of their beloved furbabies. Learn where they came from, how far they’ve come and just how amazing these dogs are! Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you….

Mona’s Story

ME: What is your furbaby’s name and age? How long have you had him/her?
MOM: Mona is 5 years old and was adopted on November 1, 2014

ME: Do you know what breed(s) your furbaby is?
MOM: Mona is a pit bull and basset hound mix

ME: Did you keep their name that they had before they were rescued? What made you choose their (now) name?
MOM: Her original name was originally Regina and we changed it to Mona. My husband thought that was a good name for her. (ME: I totally agree and it reminds me of the show Who’s The Boss?, which I ADORED watching when I was growing up)! *look at her all pretty with a flower!*

ME: Why is rescuing so near and dear to your heart?
MOM: This is the third animal that my husband and I have adopted. We have adopted two cats and Mona. They told us how Mona was left on the side of the road in a Rubbermaid tote with the lid on in Louisiana. These poor animals need to be loved and feel safe.

ME: What rescue (and/or shelter) did you rescue your furbaby from?
MOM: We are not sure of the adoption agency. But we adopted Mona at the Super Dog Adoption Day event held at Clark Farms.

ME: How did you find your dog(s)? Website? Word of mouth?
MOM: We didn’t find Mona until we were at the event. This event hosts over 300 dogs waiting for their new homes.

ME: How did you know he/she was the one for your family?
MOM: We just fell in love with her. She was the only mostly white one out of a litter with mostly black coats. She just stood out to us.

ME: Describe what the adjustment period was like for your DOG(s) once they came to your home. What was their fear? How long did it take them to overcome the uncertainty (if any)? What was their safe space or what made them feel safe?
MOM: Mona took to us instantly and loved her new home, but she was slow with house training and also suffered from separation anxiety. We tried puppy social classes and some puppy kindergarten. Ultimately she needed some medical support to relieve her anxiety. She has overcome that at this point without any medicine. I think she knows now that we aren’t leaving her.

ME: Describe what the adjustment period was like for YOU having them in your home, now part of your family.
MOM: I was a few months pregnant with my oldest daughter when we adopted Mona, so we were in a time crunch to get her trained. By the time the baby came, she was a great fur-sister.

ME: Describe what your furbaby’s temperament and personality is like. What’s their favorite thing to do? What is something that they do that makes you laugh? Do they have a strange habit that just makes them unique?
MOM: Mona is very mellow. Loves napping and going for walks and playing with her Chuck-It balls. She is so lazy it makes us laugh. We will call her to go out in the morning, and she would rather just keep snoozing than go outside. (ME: I feel ya, Mona. Same, girl. Same)

ME: If you could try to convince someone who was on the fence about rescuing, what would you say to them? How has it changed you and your lives?
MOM: Adopting a pet isn’t for everyone, but if you are interested, these animals need saving. Mona gave us a new sense of responsibility before we became actual parents and she is great with both of our kids and brings such joy to our lives.

Now onto my first story….

I first met Yuki & Pepper’s humans many years ago through a local school and sport where our kids took classes together. Over the last couple of years, their mom and I have been getting to know one another a little better, talking about our kids and our furbabies. They are all such a sweet family. Very down to earth and just super pleasant. For a while now, I’ve been wanting to photographer her family and a couple of weeks ago, I finally had the chance. I was SO EXCITED to meet her pitbull mixes as I adored all her photos that she posted and their personalities, I could already tell through the photos, WERE AWESOME and FUN!

Their mom met me at the door of their home (as they may have been timid coming into my studio) and all I could see was two beautiful dogs with super wiggly butts, greeting me as well! I couldn’t get enough of them and I haven’t even walked through their door yet. I started taking the dogs’ portraits inside, so they could get to know me a little better. Yuki (the white one), was a little timid with my camera but she came around pretty quickly. Then we went outside for some adorable images as well. By the end of the session, Pepper (the darker one), happily sat on my feet while I talked to her mom and dad..and I was told by them, that was the greatest of ways to let me know they accepted and liked me. My heart couldn’t be happier.

I may have tried to whisper into Pepper’s ears that they could sneak into my car to come home with me. lol

And now…..here are questions that I ask the families and the stories of their beloved furbabies. Learn where they came from, how far they’ve come (as you can clearly see their before photos) and just how amazing these dogs are!

ME: What are the names and ages of your furbabies? How long have you had them?

MOM: Yuki (the white one) is 4 and Pepper (the darker one) is 3. We got Yuki when he was about 2 and Pepper at 6 months. They are Pitbull/Bully mixes.

ME: Did you keep their name that they had before they were rescued? What made you choose their (now) name?

MOM: We changed their names. Yuki was given the name of Nero at the pound so he only had that name for an couple of months. Yuki means ‘snow’ in Japanese. Pepper’s name was given by us instead of her shelter name of Kyra because she has salt and pepper flecks on her fur.

ME: Why is rescuing so near and dear to your heart?

MOM: I can’t see creating more dogs when there is such an overpopulation problem and dogs of every breed, sex and age are available to people if they just look for them. Too many beautiful healthy dogs are put down to look the other way.

ME: What rescue (and/or shelter) did you rescue your furbaby from?

MOM: Both were in Clayton County Animal Shelter in Georgia, a high kill shelter. Both were pulled by New England Humane Society, and Grateful Doggies Canine Freedom Transport delivered them to us. The woman that fostered Pepper (who’s initials are LJ) before we had her and nursed her back to health, she’s the reason that Pepper is alive!!

ME: How did you find your dogs? Website? Word of mouth?

MOM: I found Pepper doing a search for adoptable dogs in Rhode Island. When I saw her picture I called in, and they said she was on the transport to RI as we spoke. After we adopted her, I connected with Georgia rescue groups on social media, and then Yuki‘s picture came up on a list of dogs that would be put to sleep in the next couple of days and I zoomed in on him, contacted New England Humane Society to ask if they could pull him for me and they arranged for transport.

Yuki when he was rescued

ME: How did you know they were the one for your family?

MOM: Honestly, I fall in love with dogs pretty much at first sight, and it would take a lot for me not to enjoy them, LOL. I love all their little quirks and what other people might view as faults, and I guess because of that they are very grateful and loving so it just kind of grows organically from there.

ME: Describe what the adjustment period was like for your DOG(s) once they came to your home. What was their fear? How long did it take them to overcome the uncertainty (if any)? What was their safe space or what made them feel safe?

MOM: Pepper was very scared and fearful for the first few days. Of everyone. She has been through so much in such a short time and seen so many transitions and we all knew that and just kept very quiet and let her have her space. In about a week she started to become playful and more trusting of us. It helped that she was still so young.

Yuki was older and it seemed like he had come from an abusive past. He was cautious but hopeful. We also stayed very quiet, I gave him a crate that he could retreat into without anyone looking at him or bothering him. We just wanted him to know that he was now safe and we didn’t make any demands of him. Yuki and pepper did not meet for a few days as we kept them at separate parts of the house and let them sniff each other‘s toys and spaces while the other was away and we made a slow introduction. And they have become best friends and they are both extremely loving goofy and sweet dogs.

ME: Describe what the adjustment period was like for YOU having them in your home, now part of your family.

MOM: I am impatient with people, but have all the patience in the world for animals, so it came very easily for me and I didn’t feel like I’m the one that needed the time. I was all too happy to have them and just wanted to ensure their happiness.

ME: Describe what your furbaby’s temperament and personality is like. What’s their favorite thing to do? What is something that they do that makes you laugh? Do they have a strange habit that just makes them unique?

MOM: Pepper is a dignified lady, calm and quiet inside. As soon as she is outside, it seems a flip has been switched and she romps, rolls and gets the zoomies like a little puppy. She is not a kissy dog, but when she is overcome with joy or sentiment, she will bestow a tiny kiss upon your nose so it feels like she is granting her favor upon you. She steals tastes from your coffee and will run away with your hat and scarves when you take them off.

Yuki is the proverbial brat. He gets jealous, and steals toys from his sister, is very vocal and in your face. He will wrap himself around you, hug you and lick you until you can barely breathe. When he starts to get sleepy, he grabs his soft blanket and will suck on it like a pacifier.

ME: If you could try to convince someone who was on the fence about rescuing, what would you say to them? How has it changed you and your lives?

MOM: I would tell everyone to spend a day in a kill shelter to see how these abandoned and unwanted dogs wait every day for a kind human to take them away from there and to love them. I would tell them to look at social media pages of kill shelters and see all the beautiful dogs looking at you through the cages and I would ask them to be a voice for the voiceless. I would tell them that new puppies and purebred dogs have issues and health problems just like any dog from a shelter could. I would ask them to give them a chance.

When you rescue a dog (or cat), many times we tell ourselves that we rescued them. But as time passes, we also realize…that they rescued us just as much as we did them.

Just under 2 years ago, my family and I rescued 2 dogs from 2 Hands Saving 4 Paws . But their story will be told in the near future. I am (im)patiently waiting for one last piece of my project to be finished before I begin and I cannot wait to unveil it!

WHAT IS THIS PROJECT, YOU MAY ASK? Well, for those who have animals that you’ve rescued (or plan on rescuing), you’ll want in on this! I will be offering HEAVILY discounted portrait sessions for your pets in my new photography studio here in RI, in exchange for sharing their personal stories online of where they came from and their journey to your home (don’t worry, I will have a series of questions that I will ask you in addition to anything else you would like to share). I will also ask that when you book a session, to bring something to be donated to a local rescue. I will be reaching out to a few in our area to see what they continuously need and will have that list posted.

The first Rescued Me story will be shared within the next day or two so be sure to keep your eyes out for that post! Just wait until you see these beauties!!
